I met with attorney can from this firm in july 2016 for an hour after calling twice on the phone. After the hour meeting, attorney can told me he cannot represent me as the defendant was being represented by someone who rents office space from them. He even told me he went downstairs and took a folder from said defendant and gave it to his attorney. Now the same defendant hires attorney kratcoski. After being made aware of the conflict and seeing phone logs, i described the office and i knew they rented space to troy reeves which is not public knowledge, he refuses to withdraw. This is very unethical. I have reported him to portage county ethics committe and was already told this is a major ethical problem. My attorney has been trying to get attorney kratcoski to withdraw now for over a month. He refuses. Today he was supposed to send errol can, a partner to a hearing to get this situated and instead, he files a motion to continue. I believe that attorney can and this firm met with me to get inside info on my case as they saw alot of my evidence in the hour we met so they can represent the defendant with insider info. This firm is extremely unethical to refuse to withdraw from a case when You have already met with the plaintiff and then decide to represent the defendant

Pete is always watching out for me and my kids. He is so thorough. He pointed out aspects of my case that I didn't know were important and really protected my interests. He and Dawn (assistant) keep me well informed of developments. He has been a true professional in court and privately. My kids and I feel protected and he is constantly there to be supportive and helpful. I would recommend him highly without reservation to anyone who is looking for a wonderful attorney. AAAAA++++++

I have used Mr. Kratcoski several times in the past for various issues. He helped me navigate my divorce, and various child support and custody issues. I have been very satisfied with him. He is extremely knowledgable and also very fair. I have personally recommended him to several other people and definitely have his number in my phone for in the future. As another reviewersaid he is busy, so be patient, but he has always gotten back to me!

I've retained many law firms and lawyers for heavy business and employment matters. Ned Gold stands head and shoulders above all of them. He is conscientious, hard working, studious, prescient, an excellent writer, caring and oh so many other adjectives. And He Wins!! I have heard him argue in the Court of Appeals. He used his great sense of humor to get and keep their attention.

GET THERE BEFORE 3:45pm OR GET A DOOR SLAMMED IN YOUR FACE. I just had a terrible interaction with one of the clerks that works there that shut the door in my face, literally, I could have stuck my hand out to stop it, but I didn’t. So I knocked. I was informed they close at 3:45. “I don’t get paid after 4” is what she told me. Their website says nothing about closing at 3:45pm. The person I talked to on the phone this morning said they’re open 8am - 4pm. This has been a negative experience made especially awful thanks to an incredibly rude worker. I hope you can find better staff in the future.

I just called to obtain information on how to get eloped and get a marriage license. When calling it rang about 20 times before she answered the phone and she was extremely rude and not helpful at all. She wouldn’t even let me get a word out and said they couldn’t help me with the marriage license application and i need to google who to call. wow extremely helpful right? I’m really disappointed. I read reviews before calling and hoped you guys would do better than that with your customer service. Extremely disappointed.

I dreaded having to contact the Hamilton Co. Probate Court in Ohio to obtain a much-needed document. I had attempted the action some years ago when documents were still on microfiche, resulting in frustration and subsequently, my abandoning the action entirely. However, I had no cause for such trepidation or concern when I contacted Judge Winkler’s court recently. First, requests were streamlined and online, user-friendly with easy-to-follow directions. Second, earlier today—a MONDAY—I received the nicest, most customer-friendly phone call I have ever received from any government employee to clarify my email request. DONNA was polite, helpful, and an absolute godsend in assisting me in getting the correct document in the quickest way possible. I do hope Judge Winkler appreciates this wonderful employee who went above and beyond to accommodate me, a complete stranger. Donna deserves an Atta-girl commendation of some sort to honor her exemplary service as the front-line representative of Judge Winkler’s office. In an age of seemingly voiceless, faceless government and fears of AI takeover, the reassuring personal contact with Donna was gratefully appreciated by this customer.

I am not a client BUT i happen to be outside when I heard a male from this office SCREAMING at a young lady delivering mail. First of all, nobody should ever be screamed at while doing their job. Second, what kind of man feels the need to verbally attack a young woman? If I ever need legal services I highly doubt I would want someone representing me who clearly cannot control his anger. Nor would I want a man representing me who feels it is appropriate in anyway to speak to a female in that way. I was disgusted and felt horrible for the young lady. You should be ashamed.

Monty has been our family’s attorney for over 25 years and has always been available when there were questions about estate planning. His office staff was very professional and dedicated as we never felt rushed when needing to speak to him or his office staff. I have found Monty to be very knowledgeable and straightforward through the years in his approach working with us. He always took the time to make us feel like family and was very patient in really listening to my 90-year-old dad every time he had questions especially concerning my mom or when my dad did not understand something. Monty was there each time supporting us in making difficult decisions. My dad enjoyed telling Monty about the family and sometimes about some personal issues he wanted advise on concerning his banking or how he paid the wrong bill. Monty would listen and sometimes shared some of his own firsthand experiences while advising my dad in an easy and understanding manner. During the last 5 years when my mom became ill and had to be placed into a nursing home, Monty and his staff were very patient and took the time to explain to me and my dad what needed to be done especially when it came time to apply for Medicaid. My dad was very confused on what to do but Monty worked with me explaining each required document. I can honestly say I have learned a lot about estate planning by having to step in for my dad from the time my mom went into a nursing home to the time when my dad was diagnosed with end stage dementia. I cannot thank them enough knowing that both my parents received the best nursing home care which they deserved during their final years. Upon my parents passing, I feel that I could not have successfully fulfilled my parents’ wishes without Monty and his staff’s professional help. It was very smooth as everything was preplanned and placed into a Trust. I have highly recommended Monty to my friends and relatives who have voiced concerns about their aging parents telling them he goes above and beyond and is very skilled in all phases of estate planning and elder law. I promised them that they would not be disappointed as Monty and his staff are very compassionate and experienced people.

He’s too much of in a hurry to really read the question. His response was too brief and I base my review on his inability to spend a couple minutes reading my question. It is my fervent opinion that this Esq. just wants publicity. Well, you got it!

Don Roberts and his team came recommended in one my darkest hours, from a few Social Service groups in Central Ohio, as he is known to volunteer his services helping families with disabilities. (important to me) Knew nothing about the legal process, and had lost hope through a divorce in 2016. Didn't know what pro bono was, or how FREE legal advice consultations worked, or even where the courthouse was. But from the first call, there was honesty, feedback, and understanding involved. The legal process could be all drawn out like a TV- Soap Opera, or swift and clean as Don said often, focus on what is right, write out your plan and story, and stand confident, and the truth will be revealed. 8 years later he still is right, and I am still learning to have hope in people and our justice system. Thank You Don for your guidance, leadership, and patience. We need more people like you helping others out there. ALL my best. Looking forward to working with you again on future projects. -D Gelo

Lisa was great from the very beginning. Ive never been in trouble and i received a DUI june of 2019. I am from out of state and was on a vacation when i was arrested. Lisa was the only attorney from the area that listened to my story and reassured me that she would help me through the process step by step and was very professional through out. Lisa would call me and explain what was happening and what everything meant in simple terms. Our case was anything but usual and Lisa never gave up and in the end got me the most favorable outcome with no DUI or alcohol charge which allowed me to continue my career. I can't recommended Lisa enough for any legal services you may have. She also worked with me financially when i couldn't come up all the money up front instead of turning me away. What an Estate Planning Lawyer Can Do for You

An estate planning lawyer helps individuals plan for the management and distribution of their assets after death or during incapacitation. Their services involve drafting important legal documents, such as wills, trusts, powers of attorney, and healthcare directives. Estate planning attorneys work to ensure that your assets are transferred according to your wishes, minimize tax liabilities, and avoid probate court. They also help clients plan for potential long-term care needs and protect their estate from being diminished by healthcare costs.

By working with an estate planning lawyer, you can have peace of mind knowing that your loved ones will be cared for and that your estate will be managed efficiently and according to your desires.

When Should I Hire an Estate Planning Lawyer?

Hiring an estate planning lawyer is beneficial in many situations, especially when you want to ensure that your assets are handled properly after death. Common reasons to hire an estate planning lawyer include:

  • Drafting a will: If you want to clearly define how your assets will be distributed after death, an attorney can draft a legally sound will.
  • Creating a trust: For those looking to avoid probate or provide for loved ones over time, setting up a trust can help manage the distribution of assets.
  • Planning for incapacity: An estate lawyer can help draft powers of attorney and healthcare directives so that your financial and medical decisions are made by someone you trust if you become incapacitated.
  • Minimizing estate taxes: If your estate is large, a lawyer can help create strategies to reduce or eliminate federal and state estate taxes.
  • Special circumstances: If you have minor children, blended families, or complex assets like businesses, an estate planning lawyer can create tailored solutions.
  • Guardianship or conservatorship: If you want to designate guardians for minor children or ensure proper care for incapacitated adults, an attorney can help.

Hiring an estate planning lawyer is especially important if your estate is complex or if you want to ensure that your wishes are properly followed.

What Does an Estate Planning Lawyer Do?

An estate planning lawyer provides a range of services designed to help you organize your affairs and ensure your estate is managed according to your wishes. They can:

  • Draft wills and trusts: Creating legally binding documents that dictate how your assets will be distributed and managed.

How Are Estate Planning Lawyers Paid?

Estate planning lawyers typically charge for their services in one of several ways, depending on the complexity of your estate and the type of services you need. Common payment structures include:

  • Flat fee: Many estate planning services, such as drafting a will or trust, are charged on a flat-fee basis. The fee covers all work related to preparing the document.
  • Hourly rate: For more complex planning, such as estate tax strategy or trust administration, lawyers may charge by the hour. Rates vary based on the lawyer’s experience and location.
  • Retainer: Some lawyers require a retainer for more complex cases, such as ongoing trust management or estate administration. The retainer is an upfront payment that covers future legal services.

It’s important to discuss fees with your lawyer upfront to avoid unexpected costs.

How Much Does an Estate Planning Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring an estate planning lawyer depends on the complexity of your estate and the services you require. Here are some general guidelines:

  • Simple wills or powers of attorney: A straightforward will or power of attorney may cost between $300 and $1,500, depending on your location and the lawyer’s experience.
  • Trust creation: Establishing a trust, such as a living trust or revocable trust, can cost between $1,000 and $3,000 or more, depending on the complexity of your assets and estate planning needs.
  • Comprehensive estate planning packages: Some lawyers offer packages that include wills, trusts, powers of attorney, and healthcare directives, which may range from $2,000 to $5,000 or more, depending on the estate’s complexity.
  • Hourly rates: For ongoing services like estate administration or tax planning, lawyers may charge hourly rates ranging from $150 to $500 or more, depending on the lawyer’s experience.

Always get a clear estimate of costs during your initial consultation to ensure the services fit within your budget.

Top Questions to Ask an Estate Planning Lawyer

Before hiring an estate planning lawyer, it’s important to ask questions to ensure they are the right fit for your needs. Here are key questions to ask during your consultation:

  1. What is your experience with estate planning?
Ensure the lawyer has substantial experience drafting wills, creating trusts, and handling other estate planning services.
  2. How will you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer charges a flat fee or by the hour and ask for a detailed estimate of costs.
  3. What strategies do you recommend for my estate?
A good lawyer should be able to explain the best strategies for minimizing taxes, avoiding probate, and ensuring your assets are distributed according to your wishes.
  4. How often should I update my estate plan?
Ask how frequently you should revisit your estate plan, especially if your financial situation or family dynamics change.
  5. Do you offer ongoing support or updates?
Some lawyers provide periodic reviews or updates to ensure your estate plan stays current with changes in your circumstances or the law.
  6. How will you help my beneficiaries if something happens to me?
Ensure the lawyer is willing to guide your heirs through the estate administration process or help manage your trust after you’re gone.

How to Check the Credibility of an Estate Planning Lawyer

To ensure you’re hiring a credible estate planning lawyer, follow these steps:

  • Verify their state bar license: Check with your state bar association to confirm that the lawyer is licensed and in good standing, with no history of disciplinary actions.
  • Look for estate planning certifications: Some lawyers are certified as estate planning specialists, which indicates they have extensive knowledge in this area of law.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Online reviews on sites like Avvo, Google, or Martindale-Hubbell can provide insight into the lawyer’s professionalism and client satisfaction.
  • Ask for references: A credible lawyer should be able to provide references from previous clients who can speak to their expertise and client service.
  • Check for membership in professional organizations: Lawyers who are members of organizations like the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA) or the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel (ACTEC) often have a strong reputation in the field.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first meeting with an estate planning lawyer, it’s important to come prepared. Here’s what you should bring:

  • List of assets and liabilities: Provide a detailed inventory of your assets, including real estate, bank accounts, retirement funds, investments, and personal property, as well as any debts you may have.
  • List of beneficiaries: Be ready to discuss who you want to receive your assets and in what proportions. This includes naming guardians for minor children if applicable.
  • Existing estate documents: Bring copies of any existing wills, trusts, powers of attorney, or other relevant estate planning documents.
  • Questions about your estate goals: Write down your goals, such as avoiding probate, reducing taxes, or setting up charitable donations, so your lawyer can tailor a plan to meet your needs.
  • Information on medical and financial decision-makers: Be prepared to discuss who you want to appoint for healthcare and financial decisions if you become incapacitated.

By being well-prepared, you can ensure a productive consultation and begin building a comprehensive estate plan that meets your needs and protects your loved ones.
