David Bradley's office will not return your calls or emails. We paid for two $100 initial consultations and when I tried several times to set up a retainer for further probate help... no response. Completely ignored. We are not near Amarillo so we couldn't just walk into the office. He's apparently too busy to help.

Used David Bradley to settle a transmission rebuild and the local shop failed not only to honor the warranty; but correct the problems they did in rebuilding it correctly. Presented David with the contracts and paperwork, and he went to work to resolve the whole fiscal . We settled for the entire bill. I highly reccomend David Bradley he will fight for you and make you a happy client. Johnny michie

I am a civil rights activist in Amarillo Texas. I have lived here over 40 years. I have seen a lot of injustice towards black, white, and brown, at the hands of Amarillo police department. All you have to do is read Captain Poole’s book, cops are people too. It only tells half the story and I know Todd Hatter personally and have watched his work in the court room. I have seen him cause innocent people to be declared not guilty who otherwise would have languished in prison, but for him. We on the streets call him, the mad hatter, because he fights like a mad man for what is right. We need more men like him. P.S. Captain pool used to be a captain at the Amarillo police Department. Who would know better than him?

Mr.Hatter filed my divorce and managed my child custody hearing. All of the matters that we're important to me were also important to Mr.Hatter. He explained the law to me when my requests were unreasonable. He also explained to me the things that make some judges frown upon clients. The judge awarded me custody, and the lives of my kids have been peaceful and without incident. Thanks to my attorney for listening to my concerns regarding my kids and for advising me on specific protective measures that we're options to keeping my kids safe and for efficiently presenting the facts to the judge so that the protective measures could be inforced. Mr.Hatter is fair and honest. He helped us. We are so thankful.

Mr. Hatter has been my fathers attorney appointed by the state of Texas but has failed to do an adequate job of listening or even acting like he cares. It is obvious he has already presumed my father guilty without a doubt. I would not recommend this attorney to anyone as I have called a couple times and he sounded very annoyed that I even called him. Use someone else!

I got in contact through Angela with Legal Aid for a family law situation. Angela made me feel comfortable through the whole process, she truly cared for our well being. She is very experienced, and was very informative with all the pros and cons to any options. I was able to put all my trust in her and move forward with my life. I have had lawyers in the past but Angela exceeded all my expectations and helped me when I need it the most! I know she cares about all her clients and is one of the realest lawyers there is. Her confidence radiates and made me feel more at ease. Thank you Angela, you are the very best & the answer to my prayers!

My elderly mother was in need of legal advice about her personal affairs before she underwent a serious surgery. Even though Angela was very busy with her other clients and heavy case load, she made time to assist my mother with her legal questions, She gave her such peace of mind with her concern and genuine caring for my mother. I cannot thank her enough for the sincere kindness and helpfulness to my mother. I would recommend this attorney to anyone who needs a person who cares and who will go out of their way to do their best for their client. Thank you so much Angela.

I confidently recommend Titiana Frausto to anyone seeking legal council. We worked closely together over a two year period as she represented me throughout a child custody and adoption process. During that time she earned my greatest respect, admiration and confidence. She invests her time and energy and is extremely thorough in her due diligence. Her exceptional strong eye for detail, organization, enthusiasm, and communication skills gain her the upper-hand in the courtroom. Titiana’s dedication and sacrificial giving of her time, energy and expertise has forever changed our lives. Titiana’s knowledge of the law, ability to expose discrepancies and reveal the truth in the courtroom is truly incredible. She has helped change the future of our family. I believe that Titiana's work would, not only meet, but exceed your expectations should you choose her as your attorney.

I expected alot more . My child was seriously burned multiple times. Judge said mediation was required apparently with little or no fight from her. Idk alot of law but if a child is burned on multiple occasions Id expect a little faster hearing or at least an attorney that wont take no for an answer for the safety of children. Had mediation she sat on her cell phone most of the time she interrupted one time to correct a lie my ex told thats about it. We had no planning or game plan for mediation I recieved a phone call the day before. Ive never been in mediation i dont know what to expect, but Her and the mediator while in MY mediation session were disussing other cases and discussing names in front of me. Very unprofessional imo and when i complained about her behavior the First thing i recieved was a bill. I called to say I've only recieved 2 statements the entire 6 months Next thing i recieve is a copy of the orders with the "wrong address". And other added stuff in the orders that may or may not have been taken out she filed a motion to withdraw because I complained about her professionalism (cell phone use while i pay 250hr) to the court and her boss. I received no answers why the judge forced mediation other than the judge didnt wanna hear arguments.

The hardest thing I had to do was go through divorce. My divorce was very toxic complicated and tiresome. Cindi wakes me through everything showed compassion to me through it all. She helped me become better myself by holding me accountable for the things I was doing that caused her grief with my case. She is very thorough did everything for me to have the most positive outcome possible. I have a great relationship with my ex wife as far as co parenting . Based off accountability of myself. I was blessed to have Cindi and hope I never have to use her again but know I would it I ever had to.

A very complex, tenacious, governmental problem created by others had been dropped onto my lap. It was costing thousands of dollars per month. I sought Ms. Wilcox’s help. She and her staff were very pleasant and professional and were extremely effective in resolving my problem. I recommend Briar Wilcox Esq. without reservation.

At the initial consultation, I was comforted by her compassion and seemed to understand my situation. However, after dealing with my husband and his attorney, I realized she was not consulting me about assets; but agreeing with opposing attorney. She never followed through, never prepared me for court, and even suggested that she could refer me to another lawyer if I wanted to pursue by letting the judge stop the illegal actions committed by my husband. I am still having to deal with the fall-out of haphazard actions by her, and her hateful remarks to the affect that she was finished and I was on my own. I would NEVER recommend her to anyone else.

I hired April to assist with a divorce modification involving my children. I liked her immediately and put everything out there for her to help me. I was completely honest about my part in the conflict I was having with my ex. I told her things nobody knew, and she proceeded to tell my ex-husband’s attorney, who then told my ex husband. I didn’t realize what had happened at first because I was so shocked. Isn’t that the LAST thing one should have to worry about when you confide in a counselor and fork over thousands of dollars. Needless to say I did not win, in any way with her as my lawyer. I lost joint custody and have been financially ruined and forever heartbroken because of lost time with my kids.

AWFUL experience!! The first time I used Stacey in 2018 she seemed caring and attentive. I paid 3500.00 in 2018. I withdrew my divorce in 2018 and tried to reconcile with my husband. I then filed again in 2020 thru Stacey. I still had temp orders in place. I gave her another 2000.00 in 2020. It was extremely hard to get in touch with her. I called the office on many occasions with NO calls back. I was ALWAYS in the dark about everything but my ex knew what was going on and didn’t have an attorney for most of the time. My ex was in her office several times and she told me that he was paying her to do her paperwork. She seemed to side with him most of the time and like I was a problem the whole time and spoke down to me on MANY occasions. She completely denies that she ever did this but my ex will confirm this. I felt like it was a conflict of interest. She CONSTANTLY reminded me that she was doing me a favor and gave me a discount. I waited until 2022 until I’d had enough of being put on the back burner and finding out that my case was about to be dismissed in court due to inactivity on the case. I finally fired her. It was already hard enough to go thru a divorce and my mental and emotional state were completely depleted. To add her arrogance and hatefulness on top of it completely crushed me. I debated about posting this but I would never want a single mom to go thru what I had to go thru with her. After dealing with Stacey my divorce is finally over after 3 years!!! My new attorney was able to get it completed in a few months.

Dale does not care about his clients!! He will let them sit in jail for years and never let them know anything about their case. Hired her last year for child custody due to ex husband filing for full custody. Had court last week and did not fight hard for me despite having a ridiculous amount of evidence to support me being a good mother . Didn’t get much email and phone correspondence throughout the year up until the last 3 weeks before court . I don’t recommend her if you want to keep your child. Like other reviewers stated couldn't get a hold of him, wouldn't return calls, and when I finally got a hold of him and set an appointment he stood me up. If he is defending you good luck. He knew nothing about my case file and got me the same sentence as if I were already a convict. No fight whatsoever in this man. He is not a criminal defense lawyer: it's almost as if he works for the prosecutor. He will not even speak up on your behalf, like a previous review said "no fight in him at all."

What a Family Law Lawyer Can Do for You

A family law lawyer provides legal services related to family relationships, including marriage, divorce, child custody, and adoption. Family lawyers help clients navigate emotionally charged legal issues, providing guidance and representation in disputes that affect spouses, children, and parents. Whether you're going through a divorce, seeking custody of your children, or drafting a prenuptial agreement, a family law lawyer ensures your rights are protected and your interests are represented.

Family law attorneys often handle sensitive matters and offer objective legal advice, helping clients reach fair outcomes either through negotiation, mediation, or litigation.

When Should I Hire a Family Law Lawyer?

Hiring a family law lawyer is beneficial in several situations, especially when legal matters involve close personal relationships. Common reasons to hire a family law lawyer include:

  • Divorce or separation: When ending a marriage, a lawyer can help you navigate issues such as division of assets, spousal support, and child custody arrangements.
  • Child custody and visitation disputes: If you and your co-parent can't agree on custody or visitation, a lawyer can represent your interests and work toward a solution that benefits your children.
  • Child support: Whether you’re seeking child support or defending against a claim, a lawyer can help ensure the appropriate amount is calculated and enforced.
  • Prenuptial or postnuptial agreements: A lawyer can help draft or review agreements that protect your assets in case of divorce.
  • Adoption: Family law lawyers guide you through the legal process of adoption, ensuring that all requirements are met.
  • Domestic violence or restraining orders: If you're a victim of domestic violence or being falsely accused, a lawyer can help you obtain or challenge protective orders.
  • Paternity cases: If there are questions about the paternity of a child, a lawyer can help establish or dispute legal fatherhood.

Hiring a lawyer early can prevent issues from escalating, and they can offer you the best chance of achieving a favorable outcome in emotionally charged situations.

What Does a Family Law Lawyer Do?

A family law lawyer provides a wide range of services depending on your specific legal needs. Their responsibilities may include:

  • Advising on legal rights and options: Helping you understand your legal rights regarding divorce, child custody, support, and other family law issues.
  • Filing legal documents: Drafting and filing petitions, motions, and agreements with the court, such as divorce papers, custody agreements, or support orders.
  • Representing clients in court: Arguing your case in front of a judge if a settlement can’t be reached through negotiation or mediation.
  • Mediation and negotiation: Assisting with alternative dispute resolution methods, such as mediation, to reach agreements on issues like custody, property division, and support without going to trial.
  • Enforcing court orders: Helping you enforce court orders related to child support, alimony, or custody if the other party fails to comply.
  • Drafting prenuptial or postnuptial agreements: Creating agreements that protect your assets in the event of a divorce.
  • Handling adoption proceedings: Ensuring that the legal process of adoption is followed, from filing paperwork to finalizing the adoption in court.

How Are Family Law Lawyers Paid?

Family law lawyers typically charge clients in one of several ways, depending on the complexity of the case and the lawyer’s experience. Common payment arrangements include:

  • Hourly rates: Most family lawyers charge by the hour, with rates varying based on experience and location. Clients are billed for the time spent working on their case, including consultations, court appearances, and document preparation.
  • Flat fees: For more straightforward legal services, such as drafting a prenuptial agreement or handling an uncontested divorce, some lawyers offer flat-fee arrangements.
  • Retainer fees: In cases that are expected to require significant time and attention, such as contentious custody battles, a lawyer may charge a retainer, which is an upfront payment that covers the initial costs of legal services. The lawyer then bills against the retainer as they work on your case.

The exact cost will depend on the complexity of your case and the lawyer’s fee structure, which should be discussed upfront.

How Much Does a Family Law Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a family law lawyer varies based on factors such as the lawyer's experience, the location, and the complexity of your case. Here are some general cost guidelines:

  • Hourly rates: Family law lawyers typically charge between $150 and $500 per hour, depending on their experience and the complexity of the case.
  • Flat fees: For simpler cases, such as drafting a prenuptial agreement or handling an uncontested divorce, fees may range from $1,000 to $5,000.
  • Retainers: For more complex matters, such as contested divorces or custody battles, lawyers may charge a retainer ranging from $2,500 to $10,000 or more. The lawyer will bill against the retainer for the work they do on your case.
  • Additional costs: You may also be responsible for additional costs, such as filing fees, mediation fees, or expert witness fees.

Always ask for a clear breakdown of the lawyer’s fees and any additional expenses during your consultation.

Top Questions to Ask a Family Law Lawyer

Before hiring a family law lawyer, it's important to ask questions to ensure they're the right fit for your case. Here are key questions to ask during your consultation:

  1. What experience do you have with family law cases like mine?
Make sure the lawyer has experience handling cases similar to yours, whether it's a contested divorce, child custody dispute, or adoption.
  2. How will you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer charges by the hour, a flat fee, or requires a retainer. Ask for an estimate of the total costs involved.
  3. What are the possible outcomes of my case?
An experienced lawyer should be able to give you a general idea of what to expect based on the facts of your case.
  4. What is your approach to resolving disputes?
Ask whether the lawyer tends to favor negotiation and mediation or whether they prefer to take cases to court. This can help you determine if their style matches your goals.
  5. How long do you expect my case to take?
While it’s difficult to predict, the lawyer should give you an estimate based on similar cases.
  6. Who will be handling my case?
In larger firms, junior attorneys or paralegals may do much of the work, so make sure you understand who will be your main point of contact.

How to Check the Credibility of a Family Law Lawyer

To ensure you're hiring a reputable family law lawyer, follow these steps to verify their credentials and reputation:

  • Check state bar association records: Verify that the lawyer is licensed to practice in your state and is in good standing with no disciplinary actions.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for reviews on websites like Avvo, Google, or Martindale-Hubbell. Previous clients can give you insight into the lawyer’s professionalism and success in family law cases.
  • Request references: Ask the lawyer for references from past clients who can speak to their experience with the lawyer.
  • Review their website or professional profile: Look at the lawyer’s background, case history, and areas of focus to ensure they have substantial experience in family law.
  • Look for professional memberships: Membership in reputable organizations, such as the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers (AAML), can indicate a lawyer's expertise and dedication to family law.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first consultation with a family law lawyer, it’s important to come prepared. Here’s what you should bring:

  • Relevant documents: Bring any documents related to your case, such as marriage certificates, prenuptial agreements, financial records, custody agreements, or court orders.
  • List of assets and debts: For divorce cases, prepare a detailed list of all assets (e.g., homes, bank accounts, retirement funds) and debts (e.g., mortgages, loans, credit card balances).
  • Details of the family issue: Provide a written summary of the situation, including key dates and facts related to your divorce, custody dispute, or support issue.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Write down any questions you have about the legal process, costs, and potential outcomes.
  • Your goals: Be prepared to discuss your objectives, such as custody arrangements, property division, or spousal support, so the lawyer understands your priorities.

Being organized and clear about your situation will help the lawyer evaluate your case more effectively and offer the best advice for moving forward.
