Filed my first, and hopefully only, divorce through them. Really affordable and was cheaper than any other attorney’s in my area. The attorney appointed to me, Michael Ephraim, David Grey and their whole legal team were attentive and made sure to remind me about papers to get signed and to review which really helped me due to my ADHD. I highly recommend this firm to anyone that needs the services they provide.

I recently needed legal representation for a custody trial and was referred to Christian Lapham. After one conversation with Christian, I was confident that this was the attorney that I wanted to represent me. He is a brilliant attorney who focuses on the best interest of your child and handles family manners with unmatched empathy and professionalism. Christian is passionate about his work, and that became increasingly apparent to me as my trial date approached. Although Christian is a proven litigator, he focuses on finding the best solution for you and your family. He is assertive and will be firm when necessary. I appreciated that Christian maintained his composure during emotional conversations with the opposition. I genuinely believe his demeanor and consistency is what drove us to a negotiated result.
As far as cost, yes, Christian is expensive. However, the process of negotiating for time with my child was scary and unnerving, and having the support of Christian throughout was invaluable. He is efficient with his time and is fair with his billing. I appreciated that he took the time to explain the billing process to me, avoiding surprises at the end of the month. All of the colleagues I worked with were bright, passionate, and knowledgeable. I felt confident having the backing of a full and qualified legal team.

Christian Lapham of Bean, Kinney and Korman, was my divorce attorney. He came recommended from our marriage counselor who worked with him on some Divorce Options workshops in Northern Virginia. Christian was an outstanding advocate for me from the beginning of the divorce process to the end (formal decree) and even beyond that. He is organized, smart, tenacious, and perhaps most important to me, a great counselor during a time I needed it most, providing guidance, wisdom and support. I felt he provided excellent value, and that become apparent throughout my divorce proceedings, especially in contrast to my ex’s attorney. He also had an impressive understanding of the Fairfax County court system and was very familiar with its judges and workings. I also want to comment on his character: Christian is fair, honest, and kind – not the attributes you typically associate with a great attorney. If you need a top notch family lawyer, I would recommend Christian without any reservation whatsoever.

I was going through a bad separation/divorce in 2010 and I needed an attorney ASAP. I looked around the internet and posted what I was looking for in an attorney on a website.
Christian immediately emailed me and said he could help me out with my situation. The minute I met him, I knew I hit the lottery with him as my attorney. Christian is such a calming presence and assured me he would take care of my stress and make sure that I would not be bullied by me ex's attorney. Off and on, my divorce and custody battle went on for a few years! Each time, Christian was there and had my back. My Ex's attorney was a very difficult person to deal with and very irrational and emotional at times as well. This behavior allowed my attorney (Christian) to come out with a favorable outcome when it came to my custody issue. His recommendation on having my young son testify in my custody battle was key to me having 50-50 split shared custody. While always calling a child to testify is a calculated risk, Christian felt good about it with the Judge that would oversee the trial. Christian also made excellent choices for me when it came to my divorce. His recommendation on a small buyout of my ex in return for her leaving my retirement alone and forfeiting her ability to ever come back to me for anything in the future was the BEST decision I ever made. I didn't think that at the time, but he assured me it was in my best interest seeing how vindictive my ex is. The end result? Christian was correct!
Whenever I had needed Christian, he's always been there for me. He has become more than just "my attorney" He has become a true friend and someone that I consider family. He is so kind, considerate and his integrity is what makes him an outstanding attorney.
While I hope I never go through anything like this ever again, I know that I can rely and count on Christian if I ever need him again in the future. He's a great person and an excellent attorney!

My experience with Bean, Kinney & Korman was above and beyond my expectations. Going through a difficult divorce, it was nice to feel the support from the staff at the office. From the receptionists, to the attorneys, this firm is organized and thorough. Laura is a very professional, experienced lawyer, with extreme attention to details, an unbelievable memory, and excellent litigation skills. Always on top of the game! Case preparation, deposition, discovery, all-day hearings, you name it. She is well-respected by colleagues and judges (we had hearings with at least 4 of them). She truly loves what she is doing!

Laura worked closely with me on my case and helped me get everything I needed for me and my kids. She was very responsive to my concerns and questions and really looked out for me. She let me know when I could do things to keep my costs down and also assigned some stuff to other people so that I got billed at a lower rate. I'm not the type of person to leave reviews. I mean, I'f I'm disappointed with my service in any aspect of life I typically just don't frequent that establishment in food service cases or just never spend money with that company again. I don't feel negative reviews do justice to the injustice that you received....anyways....I feel the need to basically let any parent male or female know...if you're involved in ANY TYPE of custody or divorce situation you SERIOUSLY NEED TO CONSIDER THIS AMAZING WOMAN. From Day 1 Lynn represented me as if I were her own brother, like seriously....she's a Thurgood Marshall Scholar for Christ's sake! Look her up, she's more than legit. She knows her stuff inside and out and in the courtroom SHE EMBARRASSES opposing attorneys!!! I'm not kidding, she is not cheap, however I find you get what you pay for in most aspects of life and in this circumstance Lynn more than produced! She didn't nickel and dime me for our correspondence via email or phone convo. She's an honest fair woman, mother of her own children and fighter for yours! I couldn't afford Lynn but used every penny of savings I had to retain and keep her for as long as I could! Literally, the law clerk of our trial ran after us outside after our custody trial to tell her she was the most amazing attorney she HAD EVER SEEN!!!! IM NOT KIDDING....I totally agreed! She works for pretty much the longest established/most reputable firm in Virginia (PERIOD). I'm an honest non biased individual.....Lynn is pretty much capable of walking on water....not joking. I met with Lynn Hawkins for a consultation immediately after my separation. I was in a vulnerable spot, and she was cruel to me. I was traumatized and had to revisit that consultation every time I walked by her office (which was in my neighborhood), at least for a while.
I didn't want to split the assets 50/50 because I was the sole contributor to the family (no children), and because roughly half of the assets in question were earned before the marriage. When I expressed to Lynn that I didn't want to split the assets 50/50, she said, in a sarcastic tone, "well, how do you want it to be split?" I said, "in accordance to our contributions to the marriage." Lynn retorted, "well, the court doesn't care about your contributions to the marriage."
Lynn is wrong. The court cares. It's the first item in the VA statute on how to split assets. In fact, my case went to trial, and the court split the marital assets 70/30 in my favor, and granted me essentially all of the assets I entered the marriage with, well, what was left of it. Ultimately, I got about 90% of the assets in question.
But what traumatized me the most was when Lynn said, "don't worry about losing your retirement assets, you have another 30 years to work." The dismissive and glib tone she said that in was awful. I'm 40. How can you condemn someone to a late retirement like that, someone who is literally crying in your office?
Of course, I selected a different lawyer. One that won my case and knows the statute.

Ms, Hawkins was introduced to me as part of the law team helping me with my divorce. She is a fierce defender of the rights of her clients. She is sharp and witty. She was an associate of Mr. Korman, my main attorney. He certainly doesn't choose slackers to work under him. At first I was worried when so portions of my case were handed to her, but I was soon proven so woefully wrong. She was a perfect complement to Mr. Korman and represented him, the law firm, and herself, exhibiting respect, integrity, honestly and true grit. Claudia was recommended to me by another attorney (friend) who was familiar with her skills and abilities as a family law attorney. Claudia was retained to modify a custody and child support order previously entered during a very contentious divorce. Claudia was very efficient and was a guardian of my rights as a father. Tara was amazing with my custody case back in 2021-2022, she fought hard so I can win custody back of my daughter and did everything in her power to do so, even with my daughters mothers side thinking they were going to win again and trying their best so they can win. But not this time, I had an amazing lawyer who fought hard so I to can have my daughter with me, I wish I could still have her as a lawyer now because lord going through lack of communication, not being on top of her medical appointments and not putting our daughters education first, but I had to go through bankruptcy back then because yes fees are high and wasn’t able to pay what I owed. But at the end of the day I would rehire her if I needed and wanted to!

I hired Ms. Steinnerd for a child support case and her passive aggressive behavior towards me before, during, and after trial were appalling. It was obvious during court she not only didn't go through all my documents but she didn't even notify me that I would be taking the stand until 10 minutes before I entered the court room. Ironically, she did call me that morning to ask me a question and even then, did not inform me I would be taking the stand that afternoon. What attorney doesn't prepare their client for trial?? In addition, she was incredibly nasty towards me during the trial and treating me like an adolescent when in fact her behavior needed to be checked. While waiting in the lobby for the judge to make the final decision she had the audacity to blame me for the trial's outcome, told me I was argumentative, was unprepared for trial, and did not go through all my documents. The way she treated me was appalling, from this experience I was able to keep a cool head despite her snatching my own cell phone out of my hands when I tried to calmy explain something to her and all the while blaming me for her faults. Her exact words, "You expected me to run the numbers for you didn't you"? Yes, ma'am that would have made a lot of sense instead of looking foolish in the court that day. If you added up the numbers from my ex-husband you could have done the same for me, and that's how I found out you didn't open the attachments provided. Not only did I not want to go to trial, but I consistently told her I did not want the support lowered. My child support was lowered because of documents I clearly told her I could provide her the year prior, and she didn't want, she didn't go through all of my paperwork, and literally growled at me during trial when she found out information about me that she should have known as I provided her all-necessary documentation way before the trial began. Ironically my neighbor also has her as an attorney and indicated she can be incredibly aggressive when things don't go her way. Remember you are the client and you're paying for her services; no one should be made to feel disrespected or blamed for the outcome of a trial they were unprepared for. You pay your attorney to do their job and in no way, shape or form should you be belittled in front of others for THEIR lack of commitment to the job. Respect should go both ways. I would not hire this attorney or recommend her to anyone as she can be incredibly nasty and disregard what you want as a client. I highly suggest you read the reviews prior to hiring her to represent you.

She helped me to get a name change for my child who is a minor.i shopped around for a lawyer for about 3 months and all other lawyers were wanting to charge me $1,300-$1,800 and made it sound like my case was very difficult and would most likely not turn out the way I wanted. I spoke with Ms. Jackson over the phone and met with her in her office and she asked about the circumstances. She let me know we had a great chance at winning this case and went as far as to explain why. She charged me a reasonable flat fee and we had a court date set for the next month. Aaren did not meet my expectations as a supporting lawyer. She did not pay attention to my needs. It was as if she was working for the other side. I ended in debt and am almost bankrupt because I did not get a fair settlement because of her. I would not recommend her for any one seeking a divorce. She and her partner double charged me.
