Michael was a lifesaver for us - I called him early one morning and he immediately jumped into action and went to the jail. He met us at the courthouse that afternoon for a hearing. Throughout our case, he was accessible and extremely knowledgable, which made a stressful situation much easier to navigate. He knows the law, the judges, the court process and is a very calming force. I am so thankful for his help getting a positive resolution to our case!

Sara made the divorce mediation process clear, and as painless as possible. I appreciated most her kindness and efficiency in allowing my partner and I to do work on our own and then Sara would then go over it for clarity and correctness. I was a client of Mr. Frank DeVincent's as I was going through a complicated divorce case that involved a relinquishment request from my previous husband of our daughter. After my daughter and I were abandoned by my previous husband, I knew I needed to find one of the best attorneys in the country to secure our safety. Mr. DeVincent, established as one of the 'Super Lawyers' and top 5% attorneys in the state of CO for numerous consecutive years, was recommended to me by another Attorney in California. I immediately felt safe and confident after my initial conversation with Mr. DeVincent. He set aside an hour to speak with me and he compassionately listened to my story and answered all my questions. I spent the next year and 10 months working with him. There was not one occasion while working with him where I felt he was on a time constraint and there was always open communication from him and his amazing associate, Kimberly Heffner. The case became very complicated with the Relinquishment of my ex-husband to our daughter, and Mr. DeVincent did not hesitate to consult necessary resources to strengthen and secure my position. The outcome was successful. My daughter and my future are now secured and I truly feel as though Mr. DeVincent has saved both our lives as this could not have been accomplished without the qualities and professionalism Mr. DeVincent has to offer in his practice. I was amazed in my experience of working with him by his integrity, honesty, professionalism, friendliness, compassion, and support. He was worth every dollar spent and I appreciated the fact that he worked to obtain the outcome as quickly and efficiently as possible. I highly recommend Mr. Frank DeVincent for anyone looking for a high quality Attorney who is driven by integrity. I find it difficult to put into words just how grateful I am for all his work as I feel it could never be enough.

Frank DeVincent knows the law inside and out and helped me with my divorce with more competence and assuredness than any lawyer I have ever seen in any capacity. I have been fortunate enough to become very successful in my life and I was worried that I would not find an attorney who understood the details of my business. Frank not only understood my books and my taxes, but even taught me a few things as well! I cannot imagine why any high-asset individual would use anyone else to get through a difficult divorce.

I was Care's paralegal for years and it was one of the most exciting and valuable learning experiences of my life. Care is a former Boulder County judge and district attorney, and her knowledge of criminal and family law is unmatched. She also brings a warmth and sense of humor to the sometimes difficult job and cases that she works on that gives comfort to clients going through a very hard time. Being involved in a criminal and/or family law case is an extremely difficult experience, and knowing that you have a kind, hard-working attorney who knows the law better than anyone on your side is the best solace. As her paralegal, I was able to learn by instruction and observation (and osmosis!) the rules and regulations governing our legal system and gained great respect for those working at all levels of the agencies involved. I felt prepared for a diversity of career options after working for Care and enjoyed working for her on a personal level as well. Care is the best!

I cannot even put into words how impressed, grateful and appreciative I am of Care and Jake at The Law Office of Care Enichen. I found myself in an unusual situation with the law. Never having any type of altercation with the justice system or law enforcement myself, I was at a loss, confused and worried. I found Care on Google and was so impressed with her extensive experience and knowledge with Boulder County laws and court proceedings. Her knowledge stems from a prosecuting attorney to a judge for Boulder County and now as a criminal defense attorney. What I was not expecting, was to meet two people who are generally concerned for your well-being. In Care and Jake, I found not only two people so competent in navigating the justice system but also two people who only had the very best intentions on my part. They concluded my case quickly and efficiently within a very reasonable cost and I am so pleased with the result. Thank you Care and Jake! I am forever in your debt.

I came to Care with a legal issue and some confusion about my standing in the law. I consulted a couple other attorneys, over a couple years as I approached this life event. These consultations never cleared up, for me, where I stood in the law. In short order, Care assured me that where I stood was on firm legal footing and that my issue would be resolved. Working with Care was a pleasure. As she got to know me and my case, thoroughly, I was assured that she understood details of where I had been over many years. She also worked hard on getting resolution against quite difficult opposing attorneys. My issue was solved to my complete satisfaction. I recommend Care Enichen wholeheartedly and with no reservation.

On May 11th I wrote a complaint letter to Peter Fabish at Conscious Family Law and Mediation LLC regarding Mediation services with him on February 26, 2024. The least that I expected was a refund check for $750. There has been no response. Without going into the details, I will say that Peter's actions led to one member of a group of three seeking Mediation for an APR, Allocation for Parental Responsibilities, to make a radical move on March 1st, 2024 that led to the false arrest of another person in the group of three, serious criminal charges, and the removal of a young child from two people he loves and a home he feels safe in. Subsequently, my entire humble savings is gone to legal fees and my next step is to take out a loan. I am 76 and live on Social Security. The consequences because of Peter's incompetence has thrown us into a crisis that may never be fully resolved. We gave a clear picture of what we expected from Mediation in our intake session and we requested the non-attorney for Mediation to save money. Peter showing up as an attorney was their first mistake. The trauma from this incident has been highly stressful and harmful though abruptly losing the child in our lives is the deepest grief that I have ever experienced. It was a life-changing mistake to use this company and Peter Fabish.

Jonathan Willett represented our son in a juvenile misdemeanor sexual contact case. His expertise, years of experience, and reputation helped tremendously. He is well known and well respected throughout the legal system. Jonathan presented us with several options to resolve the case, and then worked with us and the DA to come to a fair agreement. He and his legal assistant, Dan, make a great team and we would recommend them to any family going through a similar situation.

In response to Burnham Law: apparently it is not, because I was just able to finalize my divorce without it, with the professional help of a different law firm that didn't push me into the use of a business evaluator. Also, let's be 100% transparent and honest here. You had 3 months to tell me about a 'knowing waiver'. Instead, your lawyers told me EXACTLY THE OPPOSITE all that time, i.e. that no specialists would be needed in case of an amicable settlement. Happy to share those emails to show other people about your very shady handling of my case. Only when you learned we were headed for a settlement outside of court and in the advanced stages of reaching a full agreement (i.e. no more money for you) did you mention a business evaluator was 'indispensable'. You were clearly trying to push for more conflict = more money. Extremely bad practice that falls within the sad cliche of US law firms being all about money, not about people. ORIGINAL POST: Hired this firm for my divorce. Clearly communicated that I wanted an amicable settlement outside of court, even if this meant foregoing my husband’s business assets. This approach was confirmed and reiterated many times with my appointed lawyer Brian Lewis. Brian left the firm from one day to the next, I was appointed Mark Smith. At this time my husband and I had taken our own initiative to meet with a (non court ordered) mediator, with whom we made significant progress towards a resolution / settlement. In the midst of these negotiations Mark Smith started pushing for a business evaluator to evaluate my husband’s businesses even though I had made it very clear I did not want to pursue that. When I refused, they withdrew from my case. I had spent $18,000.00 to date with Burnham Law and had to start all over again with someone else. Clearly, Burnham Law was actively trying to push my case to court to get more money out of me.

Jessica and her colleagues insisted that I appeal my probate case. At the appeal she: . Failed to give the judges her registration number . Only argued one of the five points that I was appealing . Ran out of time in court (she sat herself down after 15 minutes—she should have kept going until the judges told her that her time was up). . Tried to argue a point that was not in the original court proceedings. From the judges written opinion: "While the Interested Persons switch gears and argue in their reply brief that “Mark failed to meet his burden” to rebut the presumption, that’s different from their original argument that the court committed legal error. We don’t consider this argument raised for the first time in the reply brief." So, the judges ruled against me on all five points.

As personal representative of my Dad's estate, I hired Jessica for legal expertise in getting the necessary financial information from various entities that were otherwise unwilling to provide it, and to resolve a major issue between me and another family member related to the estate. At the time I hired Jessica, I had been trying to resolve these issues for more than a year. Within a short time Jessica was able to secure the financial information that I needed, and within months she had us before a mediator, then a court hearing, then final negotiations to conclude all of the issues related to the estate. She has consistently been very responsive by email or phone, watches timelines and follows up on outstanding issues without any prompting, and demonstrates in all of our dealings her outstanding knowledge of statute and case law and strategies on how to resolve the estate issues.

I had given up any hope of ever receiving anything. He had to work with Social Security who would only respond via US mail. I applaud his efforts and don't know many attorneys who would pursue this without receiving any payment until the case was resolved.

If you are about to hire an attorney then I encourage you to read this review. I had a solid and overwhelmingly positive experience with Carol and I would HIGHLY recommend you interview her for your divorce needs and representation. Some of the words that I would use to accurately describe Carol would be experienced, caring, consistent, professional, courteous, understanding and most of all knowledgeable. I by no means enjoyed the divorce process but can tell you that Carol and her team really kept things on track and took care of all the details. Also, for those of you with children, Carol is very aware of it takes in the eyes of the law to protect and support the little ones and this was one of the things that was very important to me. Best wishes-

Carol knows divorce law well and has worked with numerous local divorce lawyers and judges, something I see as a big plus. She had many great ideas for me during my divorce proceedings but also followed my wishes when they differed from her advice. She was well-organized and detail-oriented, good at keeping the case moving, and able to explain legal issues quite clearly. In addition to all that I found her very pleasant to talk to. I was 100% happy with her work and highly recommend Carol.

Sara has shown supreme professionalism in her career as a lawyer. Her representation of her clients have not only supplied comfort, but assurance to the families involved in tough times facing legal actions. I hope I will never need a lawyer in the future, but if I do, I will hire Ms. Sara first thing.

In my case she ignored police information, it involved domestic violence and stalking. Even when presented with evidence that her client was engaging in behavior he should cease and desist. She never once acknowledged he was wrong. in a divorce there are two parties at fault. You know in writing this it's like a parent who refuses to understand that their "little boy" is one of the worst bullies at the school. I have seen my friends go through divorces; I have heard of other attorneys trying to do the right thing for the family. Sarah did not do that in this case and I'm afraid that my child will never recover.

Sarah Rizzolo was an amazing advocate for me during a very heart wrenching divorce. Divorce will put you on an emotional roller coaster, I was glad that Sarah was there to compassionately, and skillfully guide me through the confusing, and painful legal process. You deserve the best legal counsel. I would recommend Sarah to anyone.

I had a very positive experience with Stahly Mehrtens, specifically with Brittany Frisbie and Nichole Perry. Brittany and Nichole were knowledgable, responsive, and efficient, and ultimately achieved the exact result I had hoped for. Furthermore, their patience and understanding helped to make a difficult and painful situation much more manageable. I highly recommend Brittany, Nichole, and the entire firm.

Would give negative if I could. Unscrupulous, trashy and unprofessional. No class, no ethics, let's her personal feelings get in the way. Do NOT hire her. The damage she does in child custody cases is beyond repair.

Ms. Goodbody's services as a Child Legal Representative can be bought. She is corrupt, unprofessional and doesn't give a rat's a.. about the children involved. She will conduct ex parte communications during a legal proceeding (which is illegal) and she will lie during court proceedings, if it suits the party that's paying her. Keep yourself and your children as far away from her as you possibly can.

2017: I was wrongfully evicted by Boulder Housing Partners. They hired Brett Glass. They used a c.a.r.e.n. in the building to lie and say I hit her! Total hearsay.! I was dealing with 2 injuries and trying to get well. He later took on the c.a.r.e.n.s case. Where they tried to use her preexisting brain tumor as my fault! I could not afford attorney. He also lived next to my best friend and would harass me there. I'm still traumatized by this UNPROFESSIONAL Lawyer. Later I found out he used the SAME c.a.r.e.n. to lgo after BHP. I guess 'they' finally got "their' money! This guy IS a terrible person. And his mind is all about MONEY NOT PEOPLE....meanwhile still homeless senior.

His free consultation was not, in fact, free: I got billed $87.50 for 15 minutes, when he ran overtime while bloviating without letting me get in a word edgewise. No way I would have wanted to stay for billable hours, but I acquiesced because he put pressure on me to pay, despite me not having pre approved. I then was looking to have document review in a timely manner the following week: he did not return my call in anything approaching a timely manner.

What a Family Law Lawyer Can Do for You

A family law lawyer provides legal services related to family relationships, including marriage, divorce, child custody, and adoption. Family lawyers help clients navigate emotionally charged legal issues, providing guidance and representation in disputes that affect spouses, children, and parents. Whether you're going through a divorce, seeking custody of your children, or drafting a prenuptial agreement, a family law lawyer ensures your rights are protected and your interests are represented.

Family law attorneys often handle sensitive matters and offer objective legal advice, helping clients reach fair outcomes either through negotiation, mediation, or litigation.

When Should I Hire a Family Law Lawyer?

Hiring a family law lawyer is beneficial in several situations, especially when legal matters involve close personal relationships. Common reasons to hire a family law lawyer include:

  • Divorce or separation: When ending a marriage, a lawyer can help you navigate issues such as division of assets, spousal support, and child custody arrangements.
  • Child custody and visitation disputes: If you and your co-parent can't agree on custody or visitation, a lawyer can represent your interests and work toward a solution that benefits your children.
  • Child support: Whether you’re seeking child support or defending against a claim, a lawyer can help ensure the appropriate amount is calculated and enforced.
  • Prenuptial or postnuptial agreements: A lawyer can help draft or review agreements that protect your assets in case of divorce.
  • Adoption: Family law lawyers guide you through the legal process of adoption, ensuring that all requirements are met.
  • Domestic violence or restraining orders: If you're a victim of domestic violence or being falsely accused, a lawyer can help you obtain or challenge protective orders.
  • Paternity cases: If there are questions about the paternity of a child, a lawyer can help establish or dispute legal fatherhood.

Hiring a lawyer early can prevent issues from escalating, and they can offer you the best chance of achieving a favorable outcome in emotionally charged situations.

What Does a Family Law Lawyer Do?

A family law lawyer provides a wide range of services depending on your specific legal needs. Their responsibilities may include:

  • Advising on legal rights and options: Helping you understand your legal rights regarding divorce, child custody, support, and other family law issues.
  • Filing legal documents: Drafting and filing petitions, motions, and agreements with the court, such as divorce papers, custody agreements, or support orders.
  • Representing clients in court: Arguing your case in front of a judge if a settlement can’t be reached through negotiation or mediation.
  • Mediation and negotiation: Assisting with alternative dispute resolution methods, such as mediation, to reach agreements on issues like custody, property division, and support without going to trial.
  • Enforcing court orders: Helping you enforce court orders related to child support, alimony, or custody if the other party fails to comply.
  • Drafting prenuptial or postnuptial agreements: Creating agreements that protect your assets in the event of a divorce.
  • Handling adoption proceedings: Ensuring that the legal process of adoption is followed, from filing paperwork to finalizing the adoption in court.

How Are Family Law Lawyers Paid?

Family law lawyers typically charge clients in one of several ways, depending on the complexity of the case and the lawyer’s experience. Common payment arrangements include:

  • Hourly rates: Most family lawyers charge by the hour, with rates varying based on experience and location. Clients are billed for the time spent working on their case, including consultations, court appearances, and document preparation.
  • Flat fees: For more straightforward legal services, such as drafting a prenuptial agreement or handling an uncontested divorce, some lawyers offer flat-fee arrangements.
  • Retainer fees: In cases that are expected to require significant time and attention, such as contentious custody battles, a lawyer may charge a retainer, which is an upfront payment that covers the initial costs of legal services. The lawyer then bills against the retainer as they work on your case.

The exact cost will depend on the complexity of your case and the lawyer’s fee structure, which should be discussed upfront.

How Much Does a Family Law Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a family law lawyer varies based on factors such as the lawyer's experience, the location, and the complexity of your case. Here are some general cost guidelines:

  • Hourly rates: Family law lawyers typically charge between $150 and $500 per hour, depending on their experience and the complexity of the case.
  • Flat fees: For simpler cases, such as drafting a prenuptial agreement or handling an uncontested divorce, fees may range from $1,000 to $5,000.
  • Retainers: For more complex matters, such as contested divorces or custody battles, lawyers may charge a retainer ranging from $2,500 to $10,000 or more. The lawyer will bill against the retainer for the work they do on your case.
  • Additional costs: You may also be responsible for additional costs, such as filing fees, mediation fees, or expert witness fees.

Always ask for a clear breakdown of the lawyer’s fees and any additional expenses during your consultation.

Top Questions to Ask a Family Law Lawyer

Before hiring a family law lawyer, it's important to ask questions to ensure they're the right fit for your case. Here are key questions to ask during your consultation:

  1. What experience do you have with family law cases like mine?
Make sure the lawyer has experience handling cases similar to yours, whether it's a contested divorce, child custody dispute, or adoption.
  2. How will you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer charges by the hour, a flat fee, or requires a retainer. Ask for an estimate of the total costs involved.
  3. What are the possible outcomes of my case?
An experienced lawyer should be able to give you a general idea of what to expect based on the facts of your case.
  4. What is your approach to resolving disputes?
Ask whether the lawyer tends to favor negotiation and mediation or whether they prefer to take cases to court. This can help you determine if their style matches your goals.
  5. How long do you expect my case to take?
While it’s difficult to predict, the lawyer should give you an estimate based on similar cases.
  6. Who will be handling my case?
In larger firms, junior attorneys or paralegals may do much of the work, so make sure you understand who will be your main point of contact.

How to Check the Credibility of a Family Law Lawyer

To ensure you're hiring a reputable family law lawyer, follow these steps to verify their credentials and reputation:

  • Check state bar association records: Verify that the lawyer is licensed to practice in your state and is in good standing with no disciplinary actions.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for reviews on websites like Avvo, Google, or Martindale-Hubbell. Previous clients can give you insight into the lawyer’s professionalism and success in family law cases.
  • Request references: Ask the lawyer for references from past clients who can speak to their experience with the lawyer.
  • Review their website or professional profile: Look at the lawyer’s background, case history, and areas of focus to ensure they have substantial experience in family law.
  • Look for professional memberships: Membership in reputable organizations, such as the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers (AAML), can indicate a lawyer's expertise and dedication to family law.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first consultation with a family law lawyer, it’s important to come prepared. Here’s what you should bring:

  • Relevant documents: Bring any documents related to your case, such as marriage certificates, prenuptial agreements, financial records, custody agreements, or court orders.
  • List of assets and debts: For divorce cases, prepare a detailed list of all assets (e.g., homes, bank accounts, retirement funds) and debts (e.g., mortgages, loans, credit card balances).
  • Details of the family issue: Provide a written summary of the situation, including key dates and facts related to your divorce, custody dispute, or support issue.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Write down any questions you have about the legal process, costs, and potential outcomes.
  • Your goals: Be prepared to discuss your objectives, such as custody arrangements, property division, or spousal support, so the lawyer understands your priorities.

Being organized and clear about your situation will help the lawyer evaluate your case more effectively and offer the best advice for moving forward.
