Never say never, as the saying goes. We moved back to Maryland late last year and could never have imagined needing a criminal defense attorney shortly after. A Google search gave me plenty of options and I called a few but it was a familiar name from my childhood that gave me hope. When I called Shapiro, Zwanetz and Lake I was immediately reassured and honestly had already made up my mind no matter the attorney that took the case because the first person I spoke to was Kristina. She was pleasant and personable and listened to the details. I was happy to hear that David Zwanetz would review my daughter’s case and then from our first conversation I knew she would be OK. He got to work right away and communicated with us every step, good news and not so great news. David seemingly took it all in stride; my mama bear issues and the state’s challenges and successfully got the case dismissed. He even came to court to support the state on my daughter’s behalf when he did not have to. I know this is lengthy but for what this did to my daughter physically and mentally and could have unjustly done to her future, it doesn’t say enough.

Unfortunately, my recent session with Ms. Tracy was less than satisfactory. While I appreciate the effort to provide guidance, the advice given was unhelpful and did not address my concerns effectively. The session was also disrupted by a delay in starting and an interruption midway, which further hindered the flow of our conversation.
Moreover, I felt that my concerns were not fully understood or taken seriously. Despite informing Ms. Tracy at the beginning of the session that I have a temporary protection order, this crucial detail seemed to be overlooked, leading to unnecessary surprise when it was mentioned later. Additionally, despite my clear statement that I have sole custody, I was questioned about my custody situation. This left me feeling defensive and uncertain about whether I had made the right decisions to protect my child.
What is most concerning is that I have not heard anything back from Ms. Tracy regarding these issues. It appears that she is collecting funds without providing accurate or helpful information. Given the lack of response and the overall unsatisfactory experience, I am requesting a refund for this session, as it did not meet my expectations or provide the level of professional

Had an excellent and professional experience with this law firm. We went there to redo our will and Mr. McDonald explained the trust process to us and redid our will in that form. He was very organized and professional and explained in detail what he was doing. At the end of the process, he sent us a detail next steps letter to ensure that our JRLT was properly acknowledged. I hired Jac Knust to represent me in a divorce and a domestic violence case. He advertised that his office is in Columbia, but I think that is only to have it look good. All of my meetings were in a dilapidated room attached to his old house. There was a cat there at least three times trying to jump on my lap and interrupting us. When I mailed a check to his Columbia office, they didn’t even know that it was there. They said they don’t get mail at that address.
In the middle of my case, Jac decided to take the entire month of February off and go do Florida. He said he had seasonal disorder.
In court, when I was on the stand and being cross examined, the lawyer confused me and I gave an incorrect answer. Jac just sat there. Afterwards, I asked him why he did not object. He said something like “I heard you say something, but you mumbled”. Wrong. It was through the court microphone. The judge heard me, the other lawyer heard me. Also, Jac tells the judge that he is hard of hearing and asks everyone to speak up. In my opinion my lawyer’s hard of hearing caused an issue in my case.
When I finally decided to drop him and get a better lawyer, he stopped returning my emails. He owed me close to $3,000 and, so far, two business days later, has not returned my calls or emails.
Another example: I’m going through a divorce. I made a spreadsheet with all household items and their estimated values. I told Jac about it and he said it would be useful. When I showed it to my new, current lawyer, she said “No, that’s not good at all. You will need a professional property appraiser to document all of the household items.” She new the law. She was very quick with the correct answer. Jac….he just seemed to not know.

Attorney Furman offers good legal representation, as she has a plethora of experiences dealing with varying factors. We did our best to present our case, but sometimes external factors are too great to overcome, regardless, I feel that my views were articulated properly. Sometimes it may feel like you have fallen to the wayside leading up to the trial, but Attorney Furman will always respond to a call, text, or email as soon as she can. Overall, I’m happy with the representation and will reach out for any future issues.

Mr. Dore knows the law (I think) but is a terrible lawyer. He showed up for every meeting unprepared, including with the opposing party and for a court hearing. He could never retain the facts about my case, and as a result misrepresented some details about my case in court. I don't know if he has too many cases or just can't retain facts and/or can't be bothered to learn details about a case, but he was truly a detriment to my case and resulted in thousands of dollars of unnecessary legal fees, some of which I was able to get written off by his firm.

I paid a retainer to Jim for some family law work. He did some and then dropped of the face of the earth. Despite my many requests for an accounting of his work, and his email promises he would send it, I never received it and he stopped having any contact with me. He TOOK over $3,000 from me and my family. Apparently, he left the firm he was working for when I hired him, went through a bad divorce and absconded with retainer fees paid to him.

It says he is a trial lawyer. That’s a joke. I know the evidence in my case and he rather me sit in jail for 9 months then try to make the state prove that I did what they said. He could not even explain how they can prove it. They still gave me the maximum time and the stress of having all that time for a misdemeanor and non violent at that. It’s because I had the wrong lawyer. Stay far away. He just wants the money and the easy plea deal. While you sit in jail
