I originally tried to modify my child support without an attorney, but when my case 'got stuck' in the process of the court system, I realized I had to seek professional guidance. I needed help and fast! I spoke to a few different attorney's and was unhappy with their big attorney attitudes or their cost! I was referred to Carine Jarosz by a few different people and I must say, I was comfortable with her and her fees where reasonable! Hiring Carine was the best decision I made! Carine and her office were professional and responded quickly when I asked questions or had any concerns. I FINALLY made it through my case, thanks to Carine! I would HIGHLY recommend her to anyone looking for an attorney in family law. Carine Jarosz is awesome at what she does and you can feel comfortable in knowing that she is working your case and doing what is best for you, her client!

Young very new at family law , left local state attorneys office after being passed over for promotion very expensive thinks the client has a never ending supply of money . Not specific enough on the legal fees slow at returning call and emails unless your a top client with plenty of money . This attorney needs more experience in the private sector and is used to woking for the state can't ever speak to her after hours . Other attorneys I have used will call you after 5 pm and on some Saturday's not this one. Went from a felony prosecutor to a family lawyer within a week. Not board certified in family law but charges the same fees . Still has that goverent worker mindset and needs to realize private practice is whole other world where there are clients instead of just caseloads nice personality but that's about it do your homework and research before hiring this attorney ask for family trials and results.

A first class criminal defense lawyer who is the best in the business. I hired this guy for a family member, on the day after Thanksgiving in 2023, and after following the process and facts that they laid out over 9 months, my family member with no prior criminal record got the results he wanted. His associate John Trehune was a gift from God. Because of his 40 years experience and Aaron Delgado’s reputation with the court system, relationship building and correct guidance to follow the process, my family member received a fair trial. Was it everything I wanted….No! My expectations are very high. Having said that, the outcome was a win and we could not be more pleased with the money spent. Just like everything in life, you get what you pay for. Don’t waste your time hiring and searching for the best criminal defense attorney in town. Call this man and talk to him, then hire him and be patient following the process. The outcome will be a WIN!

I had been dealing with my case for almost five years in which I was really stressed and emotional as it involved my beautiful little girl. After going through two previous attorneys before finding Mitchell Wrenn I felt like my case was never going to end. The previous two attorneys did not defend me like I was told they would at my consultation's and through out my case. I felt like they were defending and working for the other party. Instead they dragged my case for many years costing me a lot of money. Mitchell Wrenn was highly recommended by a good friend of mine who said that he is an excellent attorney that will fight and defend you. I decided to give him a try. I stepped into Mitchell Wrenn's office and explained to him my situation. He could see my frustration, how emotional I was broken down. I prayed to God for me to find an attorney that would defend and fight for me and end my case. I have to say that Mitchel Wrenn is the only attorney that fought for me and was the only attorney that was able to end my case within two weeks. Because of him I finally have my life back to normal. It was so nice to take my son fishing and concentrate on my children 100 Percent and not have to worry about going back home to work on court papers to defend myself and not to think about dealing with court and running to the court house for hearings and such. He is my Angel! If you need a bull dog and an attorney that will put up a fight for you then Mitchell Wrenn is the one to go to! I highly recommend him with what ever one's situation might be. Thank you Mitchell Wrenn for giving me my life back!

My grandson spent the last 14 birthdays with my son and our family. Thanks Steve

Hired him in 2018 to do custody docs (flawless) and then again in 2020 when we went to petition for adoption and termination of parental rights on the grounds of abandonment. He is a very nice, personable man outside the courtroom. Inside the courtroom, he is a AGGRESSIVE and knows the law like nobody’s business!! Be aware he is also very busy (because he is just that good). Be prepared to correspond with his office staff because he is in high demand and court quite a bit. He will schedule a time a few days before court to go over the question and a game plan. Put your trust in him and let him navigate! Be patient because the legal process and the courts are bonkers. He won our case in 2023 and we adopted our babies!! We would hire him again in a heartbeat!! Nobody knows family law like Jon!

If you're a woman Don is your attorney, if you're a man he's only your attorney if it's criminal and the victim is not female. He's also not your attorney if you're a man in a child support/paternity case. He will act like he's on your side but he's really not. He will take your "evidence" and not submit any of it. He will in fact set you up for failure. If I could give Zero stars I would.

Wants to settle divorce cases as fast as possible. Didn't file 3 legit contempt charges, didn't get innocent criminal charges removed, didn't bother with ex making false police statements with facts stating she was lying. Didn't enter facts after divorce of contempt & theft. Really could give a crap how your case turns out. I out lined a clear abuse case on my child he ignored, she now sees 2 specialist because of the trauma inflicted to her. Then to top things he gave me a final bill and the next day tried to boost it 8k. I eventually will make a complaint with the bar after I'm done cleaning up the legal mess he left me in.

Mr. Huseman from the very beginning was very up front and honest. Told me things I did not want to hear, because it was the truth. I am a vet and a hard headed one at that. He was patient with me and helped explain things so that I could better understand. He himself is a veteran, and I really think that helped him understand me better. He has been on my case for quite some time (family law) and will scold me if I mess up. While he is 100% looking out for my best interest, he also cares about what is the best for my children. This man truly loves and cares about what he does, and he has fought hard for me, like he would for his own family. He is someone I 100% trust, depend on, and know he isn't selling me a dream. As a lawyer, he is well known, and well respected. He is black and white and interprets the law as such as well. He will not waste your time, nor your money. Mr. Huseman is professional, upfront, brutally honest, but you will always know where you stand, and what the chances of things are. He is a straight shooter. I'm so happy he was recommended to me. I am fighting in family court, and I am really worried and scared of the outcome, but with him I feel that no matter what decision will be made, he was the best, he did his best, and he was honest doing so. He will always have my respect no matter what the outcome will be.

Worst experience ever. Case was drawn out in order for him to try to charge me more money even though he never even did what he told me he was going to do when we discussed his fee and his plans for my case. Communication hardly existed once I handed him money. I was charged for editing documents that were never changed and for responding to emails with I'll update you asap even though there was no update because nothing had been done. I approved an agreement over half a dozen times but he never passed this info along to the other parties attorney. He abandoned the case after I confronted him. He refused to return calls/emails from the other parties attorney.

I am just recently looking for an attorney and I came across Keith Warnock. I hired him 25 years ago and I fired him 25 years ago. Never return phone calls was not attentive to my case. He still got paid though when my case ended but I hired a new attorney Edward hurt out of Orlando and this man was absolutely phenomenal. Keith didn’t care about my case at all. When you have a case pending and you just want to get an update on what’s going on you wanna return phone call well I didn’t get those. Maybe after 25 years he’s learn something.

Can I give ZERO STARS??? Sent me off with the worst parenting plan ever created-so open ended and I was taken advantage off left and right by my ex. I ended up having to go to court to settle on days and times. He also never added the settlement of my house deed on my Marital Settlement paperwork, so I am heading to court AGAIN to sort it out. Do not use this attorney. He was extremely unprofessional and did very poorly by me. Whatever could have gone wrong DID and now I am paying for it.

Mr. Ellis was hired on a reference of another father that he helped. Mr. Ellis is very subtle, sometimes making you wonder if your fight for your child will ever come to an end, but what he was doing and unfortunately doing again for me (my ex is taking me back to court again. This will be three threats in four years from her and this thirrd one will be active) is laying the road work. He is very up front of what he expects from you as the parent, how long it is going to take and how much it will cost. Over the last four years, he has sat for hours helping me to keep our son safe and healthy with not a penny out of pocket for it. He’s well known in the courts and knows what paths to take and not take. He’s been worth every dollar and I wouldn’t trust the future in any other attorney’s hands.

What a Family Law Lawyer Can Do for You

A family law lawyer provides legal services related to family relationships, including marriage, divorce, child custody, and adoption. Family lawyers help clients navigate emotionally charged legal issues, providing guidance and representation in disputes that affect spouses, children, and parents. Whether you're going through a divorce, seeking custody of your children, or drafting a prenuptial agreement, a family law lawyer ensures your rights are protected and your interests are represented.

Family law attorneys often handle sensitive matters and offer objective legal advice, helping clients reach fair outcomes either through negotiation, mediation, or litigation.

When Should I Hire a Family Law Lawyer?

Hiring a family law lawyer is beneficial in several situations, especially when legal matters involve close personal relationships. Common reasons to hire a family law lawyer include:

  • Divorce or separation: When ending a marriage, a lawyer can help you navigate issues such as division of assets, spousal support, and child custody arrangements.
  • Child custody and visitation disputes: If you and your co-parent can't agree on custody or visitation, a lawyer can represent your interests and work toward a solution that benefits your children.
  • Child support: Whether you’re seeking child support or defending against a claim, a lawyer can help ensure the appropriate amount is calculated and enforced.
  • Prenuptial or postnuptial agreements: A lawyer can help draft or review agreements that protect your assets in case of divorce.
  • Adoption: Family law lawyers guide you through the legal process of adoption, ensuring that all requirements are met.
  • Domestic violence or restraining orders: If you're a victim of domestic violence or being falsely accused, a lawyer can help you obtain or challenge protective orders.
  • Paternity cases: If there are questions about the paternity of a child, a lawyer can help establish or dispute legal fatherhood.

Hiring a lawyer early can prevent issues from escalating, and they can offer you the best chance of achieving a favorable outcome in emotionally charged situations.

What Does a Family Law Lawyer Do?

A family law lawyer provides a wide range of services depending on your specific legal needs. Their responsibilities may include:

  • Advising on legal rights and options: Helping you understand your legal rights regarding divorce, child custody, support, and other family law issues.
  • Filing legal documents: Drafting and filing petitions, motions, and agreements with the court, such as divorce papers, custody agreements, or support orders.
  • Representing clients in court: Arguing your case in front of a judge if a settlement can’t be reached through negotiation or mediation.
  • Mediation and negotiation: Assisting with alternative dispute resolution methods, such as mediation, to reach agreements on issues like custody, property division, and support without going to trial.
  • Enforcing court orders: Helping you enforce court orders related to child support, alimony, or custody if the other party fails to comply.
  • Drafting prenuptial or postnuptial agreements: Creating agreements that protect your assets in the event of a divorce.
  • Handling adoption proceedings: Ensuring that the legal process of adoption is followed, from filing paperwork to finalizing the adoption in court.

How Are Family Law Lawyers Paid?

Family law lawyers typically charge clients in one of several ways, depending on the complexity of the case and the lawyer’s experience. Common payment arrangements include:

  • Hourly rates: Most family lawyers charge by the hour, with rates varying based on experience and location. Clients are billed for the time spent working on their case, including consultations, court appearances, and document preparation.
  • Flat fees: For more straightforward legal services, such as drafting a prenuptial agreement or handling an uncontested divorce, some lawyers offer flat-fee arrangements.
  • Retainer fees: In cases that are expected to require significant time and attention, such as contentious custody battles, a lawyer may charge a retainer, which is an upfront payment that covers the initial costs of legal services. The lawyer then bills against the retainer as they work on your case.

The exact cost will depend on the complexity of your case and the lawyer’s fee structure, which should be discussed upfront.

How Much Does a Family Law Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a family law lawyer varies based on factors such as the lawyer's experience, the location, and the complexity of your case. Here are some general cost guidelines:

  • Hourly rates: Family law lawyers typically charge between $150 and $500 per hour, depending on their experience and the complexity of the case.
  • Flat fees: For simpler cases, such as drafting a prenuptial agreement or handling an uncontested divorce, fees may range from $1,000 to $5,000.
  • Retainers: For more complex matters, such as contested divorces or custody battles, lawyers may charge a retainer ranging from $2,500 to $10,000 or more. The lawyer will bill against the retainer for the work they do on your case.
  • Additional costs: You may also be responsible for additional costs, such as filing fees, mediation fees, or expert witness fees.

Always ask for a clear breakdown of the lawyer’s fees and any additional expenses during your consultation.

Top Questions to Ask a Family Law Lawyer

Before hiring a family law lawyer, it's important to ask questions to ensure they're the right fit for your case. Here are key questions to ask during your consultation:

  1. What experience do you have with family law cases like mine?
Make sure the lawyer has experience handling cases similar to yours, whether it's a contested divorce, child custody dispute, or adoption.
  2. How will you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer charges by the hour, a flat fee, or requires a retainer. Ask for an estimate of the total costs involved.
  3. What are the possible outcomes of my case?
An experienced lawyer should be able to give you a general idea of what to expect based on the facts of your case.
  4. What is your approach to resolving disputes?
Ask whether the lawyer tends to favor negotiation and mediation or whether they prefer to take cases to court. This can help you determine if their style matches your goals.
  5. How long do you expect my case to take?
While it’s difficult to predict, the lawyer should give you an estimate based on similar cases.
  6. Who will be handling my case?
In larger firms, junior attorneys or paralegals may do much of the work, so make sure you understand who will be your main point of contact.

How to Check the Credibility of a Family Law Lawyer

To ensure you're hiring a reputable family law lawyer, follow these steps to verify their credentials and reputation:

  • Check state bar association records: Verify that the lawyer is licensed to practice in your state and is in good standing with no disciplinary actions.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for reviews on websites like Avvo, Google, or Martindale-Hubbell. Previous clients can give you insight into the lawyer’s professionalism and success in family law cases.
  • Request references: Ask the lawyer for references from past clients who can speak to their experience with the lawyer.
  • Review their website or professional profile: Look at the lawyer’s background, case history, and areas of focus to ensure they have substantial experience in family law.
  • Look for professional memberships: Membership in reputable organizations, such as the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers (AAML), can indicate a lawyer's expertise and dedication to family law.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first consultation with a family law lawyer, it’s important to come prepared. Here’s what you should bring:

  • Relevant documents: Bring any documents related to your case, such as marriage certificates, prenuptial agreements, financial records, custody agreements, or court orders.
  • List of assets and debts: For divorce cases, prepare a detailed list of all assets (e.g., homes, bank accounts, retirement funds) and debts (e.g., mortgages, loans, credit card balances).
  • Details of the family issue: Provide a written summary of the situation, including key dates and facts related to your divorce, custody dispute, or support issue.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Write down any questions you have about the legal process, costs, and potential outcomes.
  • Your goals: Be prepared to discuss your objectives, such as custody arrangements, property division, or spousal support, so the lawyer understands your priorities.

Being organized and clear about your situation will help the lawyer evaluate your case more effectively and offer the best advice for moving forward.
