This is the 2nd time I retained SRB for filing a divorce. I was referred to Susan in 2007 and she asked me "what is your wish list". Since I had 2 little boys to protect from an escalating DV situation - I simply wanted to leave the marriage quickly and painlessly as possible, with half and my sons. A month after the divorce, the recession hit and I was left with a home I could not sell, I was laid off and unable to find employment for a year, mounting debt and I swore I would never let myself get in that situation again. Eventually I started a new career, raised my sons, got out of debt and met soon to be ex no.2. I will provide more detailed reviews once finalized. My life has changed drastically in less than 3 months and having SRB as my angel attorney I feel less worry because I know she will protect and do what is in my best interest always - as she does for all her clients. We all need more people like SRB in the world of family law.

I have been a client of Susan Brown since 2011. My visitation and custody situation is particularly difficult and complicated. Susan has pressed forward over the years to ensure the most appropriate outcome, often has requested, but even if it was not what I wanted to hear. That said, she will fight for you, and the best interest of the child, and is well connected and experienced in South Florida which frankly matters. I was glad she was on my team, and not the opposing counsel.

I hired Marie Lurie in November 2022 and paid a retainer of $4000 and was promised alimony and the house when contacted her for the first time and explained that my husband abandoned me and do not know where is at and that he has been missing for 2 weeks and find out that he filed for divorce behind my back when I received divorce advertisement in my mail box. She refused to help me and explained to me the divorce process but was sending me paper to fill up I didn’t understand as I’m not from this country. Her assistant Matt Geisser is fully incompetent and at time was nasty to me and when contacted him for his wrong doing he got very defensive and lied. Marie took me for a ride until June 2023 when she dropped the ball just before mediation date and decided not to answer my emails regarding what I needed to do for mediation. I have several witnesses and 2 other divorce attorneys I contacted to help me out while I was paying her to do her job and all text and emails to prove it her negligence. She never never kept me updated on any issues or anything regarding my divorce and at time was nasty when I emailed her about my disappointment and then she would call me on phone so it’s not on paper. She made me believe she operated out of an office but find out it was a PO Box at a mall UPS store. She made me drop off my file in a corner parking lot while I had a fever of 104f that’s when I found out she had no office and also told me that we needed to meet to talk about my mediation at a Starbucks shop off 595 but never gave me an actual address. And then disappeared. One week before mediation date I couldn’t get in touch with her via cell or email and her assistant told me that where she is has limited access to wifi ??? I was forced to hire another attorney at this point costing me a retainer of $10,000. After my new attorney requested all paper work and my billing statement, she refused to send anything after several attempts by my second attorney and finally had her assistant do it but no billing statement at all from her. I continued emailing her for my billing statements as per her retainer I signed and was suppose to keep me updated every month like my second attorney did about the spending etc but still no answer. Finally got it 3 month later after several attempts and asking her to refund what was left due to her minimum work and dragging the case for 7 month for a simple divorce with no child to a very surprising unethical letter. I filed with the The Florida Bar to find out that they are protecting her and it went nowhere as per today March 3 2024. She is absolutely the worst and most unethical attorney you will ever come in contact with. I’m taking my case further as After spending over $20,000 of new lawyers fee putting me in a financial difficulties and also other people I see are taking the same steps and having her investigated as well by Florida Bar that probably not going to do anything as they are protecting each other but will go further with that. Beware of this attorney!!! PS : I didnt put the review up until I got an answer from Florida bar which I appealed the first time and second time with no where to go today March 3 2024.

I highly recommend Marie Lurie ! Lurie and her staff guided me every step of the way ensuring that I was always up to date on my case and provided me with peace of mind. She showed empathy towards both parties involved while stressing points of law. Her knowledge of case law is outstanding. Thru the divorce, all emails & phone calls from me were returned within the same day, most within an hour. She is very strategic allowing both parties time to settle their emotions before making decisions. She truly wants what is best for the entire family.... She saved my family, instead of milking me. she fought for my son, and my family. She is amazing.

I was certainly hesitant to make a phone call after my auto accident to Lyons and Snyder but so happy I made that decision to call. Phil gave me the best knowledgeable information to proceed with my case. Guided me through all my medical decisions for my injury. Phil always eased my worries with his knowledge and bits of laughter. Trust him to give you the outcome you would so rightly deserve. Never hesitate to call and ask questions as knowledge is your power. Great work!!!

Phil & Martha were such a joy to work with through my car accident. It was my first time being an accident where a lawyer needed to be involved and it was extremely intimidating. Phil made me feel like no matter what happened everything would be ok and we would work through it. Martha is super communicative and she is on her P’s and Q’s you can’t ask for anything better from a law firm!

I was a stay at home mom with an infant when my ex-husband filed for divorce. My first attorney which I hired with borrowed money dropped my case after canceling my hearing for attorney's fees and financial relief( without my consent). At this time I was in the midst of a highly contentious divorce! I called Chris's office & spoke with Mel,and she understood everything, but I was short $500 for the retainer (still on borrowed money) Then things got worse after I hired my 2nd attorney. Which I had doubts about but, had a hearing scheduled and was pressured for time/money. She did nothing, just talked the talk she didn't even so much get me the financial hearing I pleaded with her to get and after at least 7 months of desperation and being in a highly contentious divorce,) things spun even more out of control with her as my attorney. My ex-husband now on lawyer 3! I called Chris's office again, desperate, scared and distrustful of attorneys! I made the appointment for the consultation and went in there with my family by my side, we were all at our wits end to say the least.by now I sold my jewelry, personal belongings and owed everyone in my family money, my credit was ruined, car was voluntarily surrendered etc... I went through my convoluted divorce, and I knew talking to him he would be able to get me out of the mess I was in. I left his office with with a weight off my shoulders, I had also given all my documents, thousands of papers! First thing he did on my case was set up the hearing I had waited a year for, they went through everything with a fine tooth comb, and we had a successful hearing! Finally I had some justice my child and myself! He got everything squared away. So much so in fact My ex-husband fired his 3rd attorney immediately after that hearing and was on lawyer #4. I can't say enough good things about Chris and his highly competent team. I could only wish I found him first, if anyone says he's expensive not hiring him could cost you more, and not just financially. I will always recommend him, because I learned the hard way, the difference between a phenomenal lawyer and the the ones who just want blood money.

Chris Link has been an incredible help for my family and I. Divorce is never easy. The talk of divorce is never easy. The legal and literal everyday realization of divorce could be looked at as the equivalent of death to a family. Chris not only showed caring, honest character throughout the entire procedure, but genuinely showed love for his craft and respect for his clients concerns and feelings. He put in 110% any time he worked with us or on the topic. I'm thankful we found him and my family is thankful as well. uou pay for what you get, and you get the best with this man.

I hired him as an attorney for my divorce. He inflamed such a hatred between my ex and I. After spending so much money he lost me the battle. While my divorce was going on, my friend also hired him and she's the only woman I know that lost the custody of her daughter to her ex husband because of this guy.

Took my mother's custody case knowing grandparents do not have custody rights in Florida right after my sister passed away from an accident. Took $7,000 from my mother and did absolutely nothing for the case (he knew from the beginning there was no case, but took it anyway). I, and several others, witnessed him playing games on his phone DURING THE HEARING. Case was obviously lost and custody was lost, as well as the full invoice amount. Now, a year later, is claiming he is still owed $280 from his invoice and is suing my mother for $500. - Takes cases he knows he can't win - Plays videogames on customer's time - Takes advantage of grieving clients - Unorganized book keeping - Sues his own clients whose case he loses

This man was a referral from a now ex friend/boss. We were promised a man who was moral, not just legal. We got someone who took us for several thousands of dollars and couldn't even manage to obtain temporary alimony! He tells the mediation people we can't afford mediation and they agree to waive the fees. THEN he claims we should 'prepare' and will charge me for court appearances, etc. all at great expense to us. That wasn't what we asked for AT ALL! Mr. Greenberg will handily charge his clients whatever Mr Greenberg wants and is only interested in Mr Greenberg.

What a Family Law Lawyer Can Do for You

A family law lawyer provides legal services related to family relationships, including marriage, divorce, child custody, and adoption. Family lawyers help clients navigate emotionally charged legal issues, providing guidance and representation in disputes that affect spouses, children, and parents. Whether you're going through a divorce, seeking custody of your children, or drafting a prenuptial agreement, a family law lawyer ensures your rights are protected and your interests are represented.

Family law attorneys often handle sensitive matters and offer objective legal advice, helping clients reach fair outcomes either through negotiation, mediation, or litigation.

When Should I Hire a Family Law Lawyer?

Hiring a family law lawyer is beneficial in several situations, especially when legal matters involve close personal relationships. Common reasons to hire a family law lawyer include:

  • Divorce or separation: When ending a marriage, a lawyer can help you navigate issues such as division of assets, spousal support, and child custody arrangements.
  • Child custody and visitation disputes: If you and your co-parent can't agree on custody or visitation, a lawyer can represent your interests and work toward a solution that benefits your children.
  • Child support: Whether you’re seeking child support or defending against a claim, a lawyer can help ensure the appropriate amount is calculated and enforced.
  • Prenuptial or postnuptial agreements: A lawyer can help draft or review agreements that protect your assets in case of divorce.
  • Adoption: Family law lawyers guide you through the legal process of adoption, ensuring that all requirements are met.
  • Domestic violence or restraining orders: If you're a victim of domestic violence or being falsely accused, a lawyer can help you obtain or challenge protective orders.
  • Paternity cases: If there are questions about the paternity of a child, a lawyer can help establish or dispute legal fatherhood.

Hiring a lawyer early can prevent issues from escalating, and they can offer you the best chance of achieving a favorable outcome in emotionally charged situations.

What Does a Family Law Lawyer Do?

A family law lawyer provides a wide range of services depending on your specific legal needs. Their responsibilities may include:

  • Advising on legal rights and options: Helping you understand your legal rights regarding divorce, child custody, support, and other family law issues.
  • Filing legal documents: Drafting and filing petitions, motions, and agreements with the court, such as divorce papers, custody agreements, or support orders.
  • Representing clients in court: Arguing your case in front of a judge if a settlement can’t be reached through negotiation or mediation.
  • Mediation and negotiation: Assisting with alternative dispute resolution methods, such as mediation, to reach agreements on issues like custody, property division, and support without going to trial.
  • Enforcing court orders: Helping you enforce court orders related to child support, alimony, or custody if the other party fails to comply.
  • Drafting prenuptial or postnuptial agreements: Creating agreements that protect your assets in the event of a divorce.
  • Handling adoption proceedings: Ensuring that the legal process of adoption is followed, from filing paperwork to finalizing the adoption in court.

How Are Family Law Lawyers Paid?

Family law lawyers typically charge clients in one of several ways, depending on the complexity of the case and the lawyer’s experience. Common payment arrangements include:

  • Hourly rates: Most family lawyers charge by the hour, with rates varying based on experience and location. Clients are billed for the time spent working on their case, including consultations, court appearances, and document preparation.
  • Flat fees: For more straightforward legal services, such as drafting a prenuptial agreement or handling an uncontested divorce, some lawyers offer flat-fee arrangements.
  • Retainer fees: In cases that are expected to require significant time and attention, such as contentious custody battles, a lawyer may charge a retainer, which is an upfront payment that covers the initial costs of legal services. The lawyer then bills against the retainer as they work on your case.

The exact cost will depend on the complexity of your case and the lawyer’s fee structure, which should be discussed upfront.

How Much Does a Family Law Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a family law lawyer varies based on factors such as the lawyer's experience, the location, and the complexity of your case. Here are some general cost guidelines:

  • Hourly rates: Family law lawyers typically charge between $150 and $500 per hour, depending on their experience and the complexity of the case.
  • Flat fees: For simpler cases, such as drafting a prenuptial agreement or handling an uncontested divorce, fees may range from $1,000 to $5,000.
  • Retainers: For more complex matters, such as contested divorces or custody battles, lawyers may charge a retainer ranging from $2,500 to $10,000 or more. The lawyer will bill against the retainer for the work they do on your case.
  • Additional costs: You may also be responsible for additional costs, such as filing fees, mediation fees, or expert witness fees.

Always ask for a clear breakdown of the lawyer’s fees and any additional expenses during your consultation.

Top Questions to Ask a Family Law Lawyer

Before hiring a family law lawyer, it's important to ask questions to ensure they're the right fit for your case. Here are key questions to ask during your consultation:

  1. What experience do you have with family law cases like mine?
Make sure the lawyer has experience handling cases similar to yours, whether it's a contested divorce, child custody dispute, or adoption.
  2. How will you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer charges by the hour, a flat fee, or requires a retainer. Ask for an estimate of the total costs involved.
  3. What are the possible outcomes of my case?
An experienced lawyer should be able to give you a general idea of what to expect based on the facts of your case.
  4. What is your approach to resolving disputes?
Ask whether the lawyer tends to favor negotiation and mediation or whether they prefer to take cases to court. This can help you determine if their style matches your goals.
  5. How long do you expect my case to take?
While it’s difficult to predict, the lawyer should give you an estimate based on similar cases.
  6. Who will be handling my case?
In larger firms, junior attorneys or paralegals may do much of the work, so make sure you understand who will be your main point of contact.

How to Check the Credibility of a Family Law Lawyer

To ensure you're hiring a reputable family law lawyer, follow these steps to verify their credentials and reputation:

  • Check state bar association records: Verify that the lawyer is licensed to practice in your state and is in good standing with no disciplinary actions.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for reviews on websites like Avvo, Google, or Martindale-Hubbell. Previous clients can give you insight into the lawyer’s professionalism and success in family law cases.
  • Request references: Ask the lawyer for references from past clients who can speak to their experience with the lawyer.
  • Review their website or professional profile: Look at the lawyer’s background, case history, and areas of focus to ensure they have substantial experience in family law.
  • Look for professional memberships: Membership in reputable organizations, such as the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers (AAML), can indicate a lawyer's expertise and dedication to family law.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first consultation with a family law lawyer, it’s important to come prepared. Here’s what you should bring:

  • Relevant documents: Bring any documents related to your case, such as marriage certificates, prenuptial agreements, financial records, custody agreements, or court orders.
  • List of assets and debts: For divorce cases, prepare a detailed list of all assets (e.g., homes, bank accounts, retirement funds) and debts (e.g., mortgages, loans, credit card balances).
  • Details of the family issue: Provide a written summary of the situation, including key dates and facts related to your divorce, custody dispute, or support issue.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Write down any questions you have about the legal process, costs, and potential outcomes.
  • Your goals: Be prepared to discuss your objectives, such as custody arrangements, property division, or spousal support, so the lawyer understands your priorities.

Being organized and clear about your situation will help the lawyer evaluate your case more effectively and offer the best advice for moving forward.
