Hired Mr. Trenkle on more than one occasion and would recommend him without a doubt. He is very realistic, knows the law front and back, answers his calls, is prepared, provides all your pertinent documentation, etc! I cant really say enough. He does not sugar coat things, he will tell you what and how every detail will play out. He will not take your money if he cant help. I hired him within a week of a court date (last minute) and he was there for me, and knew my case as well as I did. You couldnt ask for a better attorney, TRUST ME! I have hired several others.... Mr.Trenkle is second to none.

I was at the lowest point of my life. I needed help or resources but this man sent Hopeful adoptive parents my way to prey on me. He won but Karma came back around because I told everyone he was not honest about the adoption. Open adoption is not true!! Ever or any state. Adoptive Parents can and will change their promises almost every time. No reason for me. Birth mothers are not vessels to carry for infertile women. Treated me so badly and not one adoptive parent cares. Mark my words all the babies people buy won't be in contact with the adoptive parents when they are adults. Shame on people for praying on vulnerable women.
Never would I have hired him but he was the agency's attorney but never had my own representation because he told me I didn't need it. Just gross.

Katie is meticulous, well-educated, and works with an excellent team. She is soft-spoken and caring, but don't think she is anything less than aggressive. I love Katie's honesty and ability to be realistic. In such an emotional time as going through a divorce, she understands that anger, irrationality and revenge are things that need to be taken very seriously - with both parties. In my case, there were many complexities that needed to smoothed out on my end. As I did so, the complexities unexpectedly came as a barrage of lies from the other party, but she handled them with aggressive kindness. She knows what to do and how to do it, to the point that much of the other parties tactics were exposed as irrational and untrue simply by filing a very eloquent Response. The judge didn't even need to come to the bench on a couple ex parte hearings - dismissing the other party's allegations based on merits. We had some email communication issues and I panicked several times when I wouldn't hear back from her within 24 hours, but that could have been just me. She always seemed to be thorough and knowledgeable when we finally connected, as if she had been studying the case during that time.
Also, I was a little upset when everyone in the firm's hourly rates increased by $50/hour, but it wasn't clear until I got my monthly statement. I wish that was more clearly disclosed BEFORE the month started rather than AFTER the month was over - although, I felt the contracted amount shouldn't have changed at all. Nevertheless, this is my first (and hopefully only) divorce, so I am not really knowledgeable of what the "common" attorney cost protocol is.

Worst experience ever with an attorney. David is great and very transparent while Steven the main attorney is the complete opposite he has made up extra fees claiming to have worked enormously more hours then task would have taken essentially overcharging me when I asked for a audit to show he actually worked said extra hours all he shows is the invoice with the inflated hours. First court date he was extremely unprepared the judge called it out which in turn lost my whole case as I was trying to prevent my daughter from being moved out of state, judge asked Steven for proof of that my daughter’s mom was actually living here in California where I provided multiple documents of evidence proving that but he could not show any to where the judge allowed the move away. I was told for Steven to travel to represent me in alameda county I would only pay travel fee for time going to court date not back court was only a hour and a half as to where Steven charged me for 5 hours which amounted to 1600 for one day that he barely even spoke on any subjects i requested. I had to travel to retrieve records from a previous case as evidence I was charged $160 for me bringing said documents to him as I did all the work. He would charge me almost $100 each time for him to email me or call me which most conversations were him trying to argue with me because of his incompetence. I would recommend anyone to ever retain him as representation. Be sure if you retain David as you attorney that Steven will not touch your case as you are sure to lose and pay greatly more then discuss. My initial quote of fee was 5,000 as to how I was charged 15,000 for a matter that only was 2 court appearance and all evidence was gathered by me I still have no explanation

I used Rick in 2017 to draft the MSA (Marital Settlement Agreement) in my uncontested divorce - specifically to assist with disclosures and filing. Unfortunately, he did such a terrible job the judge threw my entire MSA out in June of 2020 after 3 more years in court battling my ex-wife. In his final ruling the judge identified a number of inconsistencies specific to disclosures, so rather than boring you with my story I’ll let the judge’s words from his final ruling speak for themselves:
1. There is no evidence that he supplied a statement of all material facts as to assets and obligations, nor did it include his last two years income tax returns (Family Code Section 2105 b)
2. His schedule of assets and debts contains no statements for the various accounts identified therein.
3. The personal loan from Christopher’s mother, is identified as being incurred during the marriage with a balance of $XX,XXX; no promissory note was attached, although one existed (exhibit 7).
4. Because he did not provide a statement of all material facts as required under Section 2105 b 3 there are no factual contentions provided to wife that would allow her to ascertain if the credit card could be her separate liability.
5. The court looks with suspicion at the conflation of the preliminary and final declarations of disclosure, which was done in this case; especially here given the very short time frame from the filing of the petition to the presentation of the disclosures in full marital settlement agreement. Add to this, that the disclosure itself was woefully inadequate.
6. Based upon the evidence addressed herein, the court finds that Christopher’s declaration of disclosure, which he identified as his “final declaration of disclosure”, fails to comply with Section 2105e. The court would set aside the MASA and judgement based upon this failure alone.
While I provided Rick with all of the documentation required it is apparent from the quotes above especially numbers 5 & 6 that said documentation was not included resulting in my disclosures being insufficient. Rick did not advise me on the incompleteness of my disclosures per our agreement and he also used a form in which my ex-wife adopted my disclosures. It was only later that I discovered this form is acceptable in Sacramento County, but Rick failed to make sure it would also be acceptable in Placer County and it wasn’t. As a result, I now need to pay my ex-wife money I do not have because I’ve spent all my money on attorney’s fees over the last 3 years to fight the motion to set aside my MSA which I thought was a solid case with solid disclosures.
I asked Rick for his money back and gave him 30 days to do so before I wrote this review and filed an official complaint with the California State Bar and he refused. Not sure why he made that decision based on the information above, but either way spare yourself the frustration and find another attorney.

He's a competent attorney with proven litigation skills in and out of the courtroom. (Unfortunately for me, my case went to trial so I got to witness Mr. Cohen's trial skills and abilities.) He can be an aggressive litigator when it is appropriate to do so, but will also advise you when he believes it is best to compromise on certain issues. He is mindful of your intentions and how you wish to settle your legal matter. He is honest and upfront, and will not sugar coat your matter if he believes otherwise. As such, he may come across at times as being unsympathetic, but it is his role to provide legal guidance, not therapy. I would recommend Rick Cohen if you are seeking a strong attorney to represent you on your family law matter.

Mr. Andrews was my (first) divorce attorney. Unfortunately, I was disabled at the time of my divorce, and Mr. Andrews never did as instructed, but I was too weak to change lawyers and my dad who was taking care of me didn't know what to do.
My ex husband and I reached an agreement. I just needed a lawyer to give him the money. I noticed almost immediately that his office didn't work quite right -their secretary ran down the clock to the hour on one of the first calls, which stunned me, but I was too sick to care. Mr. Andrews also tended to drone on and not say anything useful. He also submitted things that made no sense to me or my dad. My dad tried, we tried so so hard to get him to send my ex husband money. We kept asking and asking.Then I got sicker, I told Mr. Andrews I was sicker, and while he didn't do anything much before then, he did absolutelynothing afterwards (he had one job, to pay my ex husband per our agreement. He never did it.My next divorce atty a very reputable lawyer, said Mr. Andrews filed the paper work incompletely for the divorce actually.)
Then my ex husband, angry and not knowing the situation, thought I was stalling (I couldn't speak to anyone at the time, I was bedridden and couldn;t think. I'm crying as I write this. All these men scamming women is terrible. To be clear I paid everything for my husband- I was the sole breadwinner for four years while he went to school, then he abandoned me when I got sick. And he said, you can just hand me a check. He wanted half, and I just said, that's ridiculous. You're leaving me when I can't work. So we made an agreement). For about a year, Mr. Andrews did NOTHING and charged me $5000 for it. And my husband got half - of everything, including what really should have been money from before I was married, gifts from my parents, and, most awful, brain injury settlement money- which my ex husband had originally agreed not to touch. I can't describe to you all how traumatizing that is in the position I was in, to be nearly dead and dysfunctional and in pain, and your ex husband taking as much as he can. After I had switched lawyers to clean up his mess, Mr Andrews had the gall to ask for more money beyond the deposit. I said know, and he yelled at me over email when I finally said, after losing my ENTIRE 401K, I was not going to give him any extra money for bogus charges.
Interestingly, my next atty said Mr. Andrews didn't do his job -at all. She was stunned that he hadn't just sent a check first THING. Remember, i was sick, and i also didn't /don't know how divorces work. Mr. andrews claimed he couldn't give any money immediately until 6 months had passed. I don't think this was true!! He will cover his incompetence with anger that someone says he didn't something ...not right. My next attorney had a good think on it and she knew, even though Mr. Andrews really "screwed me", there is nothing I can do because he didn't technically do mal practice.
So, one star for this law firm for "technically not doing mal practice" but also doing absolutely nothing. I lost half my savings while I was sole breadwinner and this law firm is not apologetic, even when a reputable atty is shocked at the incompetence and their disregard.
