The lawyer (Paige Frankenberry) does not return client phone calls, emails, or letters. The lawyer made false promises, failed to schedule appearances in court and has missed deadlines. The lawyer refuses to provide an itemized statement, return the file and refund the remaining balance paid after firing the lawyer and making several requests. For no less than 3 months the lawyer went completely missing. If you want your case to move, you may want to retain a more responsive and competent attorney. A full year was wasted on this one with nothing to show.

A neighbor of mine here in Far West Texas attempted to steal 2/3rds of my one acre parcel of land with what was proven to be a fraudulent claim of adverse possession. The neighbor is a retired county judge and his brother is also a lawyer; he had free legal services at his disposal. My neighbor is a long standing member of the good old boy network down here in Far West Texas; his track predatory track record not withstanding. Jodi took my case; she took on an ex county judge along with his brother’s law firm and beat them both handily. I retained possession of my property. The one acre parcel is all I have, and I am so thankful to have had Jodi and her team in my corner fighting for me every step of the way!

After 3 years of being classified disabled and not given work clearance by a group of 5 doctors, and having gone through all my savings paying bills, mortgage, insurance, taxes yet continually denied for Social Security Disability, and no money for a lawyer, my medical staff signed me up for legal assistance. A couple of days after, Jodi called me. Explained she’s ‘criminal defense’ but she wanted to help. We met at least weekly for about 2 months. From my memory, stories etc, she tracked down doctors, police officers, etc etc. she demanded that the Social Security Court hear my case. We got a court date 5 weeks ahead. We appeared before the judge with well over 3000 pages of evidence. She told the judge she was not a specialist in medical law but defense. After a hearing that lasted about 3 hours, she and I both thanked the Judge for his time, at which time he congratulated Jodi on a spectacular presentation and research in a ‘strange’ field. He adjourned advised we’d both be alerted after he reviews the evidence and makes a decision. About 2 weeks, we both received a judgement. She won for me! Got maximum allowed AND total reimbursement for back pay dating back over 3 years! Jodi, in my case, was prepared, had a stellar plan and saved. me from life on the street! I owe her my Everything! Thanks again Jodi! I love you!!!!!!

To be fair and honest, I would not recommend this lawyer to a friend, but to maybe somebody with a very small case. She was a waste of my time, ( I stayed in Houston, TX at the time), money, and effort. I traveled to her office from Houston, with faith, thinking that she had it all for this case. She talked about how she was going to do it all, plan, write memo's. The thing that I remember mostly is that she kept emailing me to "hang in there". Hang in where!! Are you working on and are going to take on this case or aren't you?! Don't waste my darn time! If she did not think that she could take on heavy case, such as a writ of habeas corpus (our case) then don't get us excited in the beginning having we think that you are going to be dedicated, don't take our money as a d*mn retainer, and don't keep sending emails stating that you are working on it and how I'm hanging in there! I DON'T WANNA HEAR IT! She took "her fees" out of the retainer that we paid her and told us that she had other cases and was too busy. WHAT!? She basically took on other cases and left ours, an innocent family, after having been fighting the stupid state of Texas for 28 years, and resigned. Was it money the reason?? Was it lack of knowledge for a writ of habeas? Or was it really fear? Was this case too heavy for you? She should have stated this crap way in the darn beginning! She then refunded my $$ to my parents when it was I who paid her from my bank card. Which kind of a lawyer is this and what kind of business is she running? She could have gotten sued for that alone! Do not waste my time, Lady!

1. Gratitude: Stephen Jon Moss cares and serves as a model for all lawyers seeking to do pro bono phone consultations. He promptly replied to my time-sensitive appeal issue—listening and providing invaluable advice July 7, 2022 free of charge, ending around 6:20 PM after normal business hours—nothing short of a miracle! I will forever value his advice, knowing that high-profile school districts and other clients pay top dollar for his expertise. He even offered me a follow-up call, if needed—illustrating character beyond reproach. 2. Process: Within about 2 hours after completing the Lawyer Referral Service (“LRS”) succinct online form, Mr. Moss’ profile appeared in my Inbox. I thought I needed a lawyer to represent me, immediately, but realized as we exceeded the 30-minute window that what I needed was sound pro se legal advice to comply with the court timeline. I noted my visit to the June 29, 2022 Austin Bar Association Lockhart Veterans Legal Clinic. Seeing attorneys eager to help with few veterans present made me vow to bridge the disconnect. Too many veterans need help to thwart homelessness or other legal issues despite attorneys like Mr. Moss willing to help through LRS or in-person. 3. Anecdote: At the outset, Mr. Moss reminded me of my value as a veteran. His ROTC experience connected us, too. “I’m a quick learner,” I said. “Just point me in the right direction.” Mr. Moss listened intently and answered all of my questions then strategized, helping me create a “To-Do List” to plan what, when, and how to file along with next steps. The following day I headed to Texas State Law Library then filed an answer and timely submitted my appeal, accordingly. 4.Hope: Now, I see the glass as half-full and plan to share the value of LRS and Mr. Moss’ legal expertise. Responsive, respectful, resilient: He was a perfect match. I highly recommend Mr. Moss’ service. It was, indeed, a blessing!

Some say that it’s impossible to prove a negative. Stephen Moss was able to do just this when I was unfairly terminated over a 7-year old’s misrepresentation of a short conversation we had in public in a school cafeteria. While an employee can be terminated in Texas without cause, Mr. Moss was logically able to explain to the Texas Education Agency’s investigator how the allegations against me were not only illogical but impossible. As a Foster and Adoptive Parent of two now grown kids I was appalled at what I had been accused of and summarily dismissed without being given a formal chance to defend myself. And I knew I needed help. Mr. Moss listened to what I had to say, researched the law in question and with a single letter to the State Agency’s investigator explained that not only was any part of the law violated, the school district’s investigation was woefully inadequate and the conclusions reached preposterous. Mr. Moss’s written correspondence was so compelling that the State investigator closed the investigation without even a formal hearing, potentially saving me thousands of dollars in unnecessary legal fees. Thank you Mr. Moss for protecting my reputation!

SO impressed with Mr. Moss. I was referred to him by the Lawyer Referral Service of Central Texas. Just amazing service from Mr. Moss. He completely understood my issue and had the best, most pragmatic, reasonable approach to resolving my issue. He took so much weight off of my shoulders in about 15 minutes regarding my real estate issue. Cant say enough how much I appreciate his advice. 10/10 definitely recommend Mr. Moss just amazing service!

Called his office to inquire about a tort case and got a text message that his retainer fee was $5,000 for new clients and then $25,000 for new litigations...a text message, without even speaking to him or him hearing my case. No thanks, I want an attorney who wants to at least hear cases before the in my opinion obvious money grab. Doesn't align with my morals and ethics on how a professional should behave.

If I could give no stars I would! He basically stole $3000, because he did nothing but have divorce papers served. That took forever! He never had any information for me. Always asked me for proof of what I would tell him, I provided it, he did nothing with it. Talked to me like my ex, made me feel like I was crazy, because he never had answers for me. I was getting a divorce, but knew nothing about my case, crazy. Then kept my money after I fired him, said it was used up in emails and texts I sent, that he rarely answered. Very vague and accusingly when he did. Very green and immature attorney!!! Getting a divorce is bad enough, he only made the experience worse for me.

I came across Ingrid through legal aid. I desperately needed representation and had no money for a retainer. I was thrilled to meet Ingrid as I felt I could finally see light at the end of the tunnel. She was horrible at the intake interview- she did not even get my sons' age correct in filed paperwork. She seemed most concerned about having one of her cohorts employed to the tune of at least $5000 to assess value of community property. Then she proceeded to blow through her $5000. retainer like yesterday's news. There were a lot of extenuating circumstances, but the only thing she accomplished was for me to lose custody of my then 16 year old son. I'm still married. You can definitely find better, and I highly suggest that you do.

I have been dealing with them for almost 5 years now in regards to the 3m lawsuit. After 5 year, I’ve learned that they only care about making money and do NOT care about the client. I have sent tons of emails over 5 years. Sometimes I get a generic response, but the email doesn’t come close to answering my questions. I know they are dealing with a lot of clients but not one answer from them in 5 years. That’s ridiculous. If you’re looking for a firm that will listen to you and take their time, look elsewhere.

What a Government Lawyer Can Do for You

A government lawyer specializes in legal issues related to government policies, regulations, and disputes involving public entities. Whether you are a private individual, business, or government agency, a government lawyer provides expert guidance on navigating the complexities of government law. These attorneys handle cases ranging from constitutional law, administrative law, regulatory compliance, and government contracts to defending or challenging government actions.

Government lawyers help individuals and organizations understand their rights and obligations under the law, represent them in disputes with government agencies, and assist in matters of government contracting, procurement, or public policy.

When Should I Hire a Government Lawyer?

You should consider hiring a government lawyer in several situations involving government regulations, compliance, or disputes. Common reasons to hire a government lawyer include:

  • Government contracts and procurement: If you are bidding for or negotiating a contract with a government agency, a lawyer can help ensure compliance with federal, state, or local contracting rules.
  • Regulatory compliance: Businesses operating in highly regulated industries (e.g., healthcare, finance, environmental sectors) often need legal guidance to comply with government regulations and avoid penalties.
  • Government investigations: If you're being investigated by a government agency such as the IRS, SEC, or EPA, a government lawyer can help defend you against allegations or negotiate settlements.
  • Challenging government actions: If a government agency has denied a permit, license, or benefit, a lawyer can help you appeal or challenge the decision in court.
  • Constitutional and civil rights issues: If you believe your constitutional rights have been violated by a government entity, such as in cases involving free speech or discrimination, a government lawyer can help you seek justice.
  • Public policy or lobbying efforts: If you are involved in lobbying or advocating for policy changes at the local, state, or federal level, a government lawyer can provide legal advice on compliance with lobbying laws and strategies for effective advocacy.

Hiring a government lawyer early in the process can help you navigate complex legal frameworks and avoid costly mistakes when dealing with government-related legal issues.

What Does a Government Lawyer Do?

A government lawyer provides a wide range of services that cover interactions between individuals, businesses, and government entities. They can:

  • Assist with government contracts: Helping clients navigate procurement laws, drafting contracts, and resolving disputes related to government contracting.
  • Provide regulatory compliance advice: Offering guidance on meeting regulatory requirements for industries subject to federal, state, or local laws.
  • Handle administrative law matters: Representing clients before government agencies, such as appealing administrative decisions, applying for permits, or defending against regulatory enforcement actions.
  • Challenge or defend government actions: Representing clients in lawsuits involving government agencies, including constitutional challenges, civil rights violations, or disputes over government decisions.
  • Negotiate settlements with government entities: If a government agency is pursuing legal action against you or your business, a lawyer can negotiate settlements to avoid costly litigation.
  • Advocate for policy changes: Advising clients on legal strategies for influencing public policy, including lobbying and drafting legislation.
  • Litigate constitutional issues: Handling cases related to the Constitution, such as First Amendment rights, due process violations, or unlawful government actions.

How Are Government Lawyers Paid?

Government lawyers typically charge for their services based on the complexity of the case and the nature of the legal work involved. Common payment structures include:

  • Hourly rate: For ongoing legal matters, such as regulatory compliance or government contract disputes, lawyers may charge by the hour. Hourly rates can vary depending on the lawyer’s experience and location.
  • Flat fee: For specific services, such as drafting a government contract or filing an administrative appeal, some lawyers charge a flat fee.
  • Retainer: For clients who need ongoing legal support, such as businesses frequently interacting with government agencies, a lawyer may charge a retainer fee. This is an upfront payment that covers future legal services.
  • Contingency fee: In some cases involving litigation, such as civil rights violations, a lawyer may work on a contingency basis, meaning they only get paid if they win or settle the case.

It’s important to discuss fee structures with your lawyer during the initial consultation to avoid surprises.

How Much Does a Government Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a government lawyer depends on the complexity of the legal issue, the lawyer's experience, and their fee structure. Here are some general cost estimates:

  • Hourly rates: Government lawyers typically charge between $150 and $500 per hour, depending on their experience and the complexity of the case.
  • Flat fees: For specific legal services, such as drafting a government contract, flat fees can range from $1,000 to $5,000, depending on the nature of the service.
  • Retainer fees: A retainer for ongoing legal work with government agencies can range from $5,000 to $20,000 or more, depending on the scope and frequency of the work.
  • Contingency fees: In cases where a lawyer works on contingency, their fee is usually a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or damages awarded if the case is successful.

Be sure to get a clear estimate of costs during your consultation to ensure that you understand the fees associated with your case.

Top Questions to Ask a Government Lawyer

When hiring a government lawyer, it’s essential to ask the right questions to ensure they have the experience and skills needed for your specific situation. Key questions to ask include:

  1. What is your experience with government law cases?
Make sure the lawyer has substantial experience in handling cases or issues involving government agencies, regulatory compliance, or constitutional law.
  2. What is your fee structure?
Ask how the lawyer charges for their services - whether by the hour, flat fee, retainer, or contingency fee - and request an estimate of costs.
  3. What are the potential outcomes of my case?
Ask for an honest assessment of your legal options and the likelihood of success based on your specific situation.
  4. How do you handle interactions with government agencies?
Ask about their approach to dealing with government entities and their experience with specific agencies relevant to your case (e.g., IRS, EPA, SEC).
  5. Have you handled cases like mine before?
Ask about their experience with similar cases and whether they have achieved favorable outcomes in the past.
  6. Who will handle my case?
Clarify whether the lawyer you are meeting with will personally handle your case or whether junior attorneys or paralegals will do most of the work.

How to Check the Credibility of a Government Lawyer

To ensure you’re hiring a reputable government lawyer, follow these steps to verify their credentials and reputation:

  • Check state bar association records: Confirm that the lawyer is licensed to practice in your state and has no history of disciplinary actions.
  • Review their professional experience: Look for specific experience in government-related legal issues, such as regulatory compliance, government contracts, or administrative law, on their website or professional profile.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Check online reviews and ratings on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to get insight into the lawyer’s reputation and track record.
  • Ask for references: Request references from previous clients who have worked with the lawyer on government-related matters to understand their experience and effectiveness.
  • Check for membership in relevant organizations: Look for memberships in professional organizations such as the American Bar Association's Administrative Law Section or the National Institute of Government Procurement, which can indicate the lawyer’s focus on government law.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first meeting with a government lawyer, it’s important to come prepared with relevant information and documents. Here’s what you should bring:

  • Detailed description of your legal issue: Be prepared to explain your situation, whether it’s a regulatory compliance question, a government contract issue, or a dispute with a government agency.
  • Relevant documents: Bring any paperwork related to your case, such as contracts, permits, letters from government agencies, or notices of investigation.
  • A list of questions: Write down any questions you have about your case, including the legal process, potential outcomes, and costs.
  • Timeline of events: Provide a clear timeline of any relevant events, such as the issuance of government orders or interactions with government agencies.
  • Goals for the outcome: Be ready to discuss what you hope to achieve, whether it’s a favorable settlement, regulatory compliance, or overturning a government decision.

By being organized and prepared, you can help your lawyer understand your situation more quickly and give you the best legal advice moving forward.
