I was misidentified as a physician who lost a state license from another state. Since I was reported as the revoked licensed physician, I was questioned by my state board and had trouble finding employment due to the National Practitioner Databank report. I tried to correct this problem myself and got nowhere. A friend suggested Antonio Cobos, JD and things started moving real fast. Within a month of his letter to the reporting agencies, I received a corrected NPDB report with sincere apologies for their mistake. Dr. Cobos and Samantha are fantastic and I owe them for getting my future back.

After receiving a letter from the Texas Medical Board I talked to four attorneys on the phone and without a doubt felt the most comfortable working with Tony Cobos . He was very frank about what he could do for us and did not give us any false expectations as to costs or outcomes. He kept me informed throughout the process and ensured I was prepared to face the informal hearing. I found Mr Cobos very knowledgeable, honest and extremely supportive. I have no doubt that he is strong force in the area of matters related to medical license. I have been very pleased and impressed by the results he gets and tons of accusations from my fired angry employee were dropped. I would highly recommend Tony Cobos to any physician who has a case with TMB.

I found myself in a place that I never imagined which ultimately resulted in me potentially losing my license as a counselor. Having no experience in these types of situations, I desperately researched and found Mr. Lype. I had no idea what to expect. What I got from Mr. Lype was honesty, genuineness, and understanding. My case involved me having to talk about very difficult topics and he made this substantially easier to do. I personally believe we ended up getting a better outcome than what could have been expected. I owe that to him for being willing to work with me. If you are looking for a genuine, honest, compassionate attorney- Mr. Lype is your person. Thank you again for everything.

Ms. Rutland possesses a high degree of character and integrity, and has demonstrated competence and proficiency as seen through her assignments and responsibilities with my school districts. She has also demonstrated high standards of ethics, service, management, and professional responsibilities as demonstrated in her achievements within her profession. She is knowledgeable, energetic, enthusiastic, professional, and possesses good communication skills. She has made and will continue to make contributions to her profession as an attorney. I have had the opportunity to know Ms. Rutland for a number of years and have found her to be an innovative leader who is always striving to make contributions and improvements to her profession. She continues to seek ways, not only to improve her law firm, but also to improve her professional skills as a professional. Ms. Rutland is also active in pursuing professional leadership skills. I have observed her activities and relationships with her professional peers. She demonstrates her ability to work with a variety of people while mastering the administrative nightmare of juggling a professional career, community responsibilities, and her personal life very successfully. As a superintendent of several school districts, I have had the privilege of working with numerous law firms and attorneys and I find Ms. Rutland as an excellent attorney capable of assisting and providing school districts with excellent legal services. She demonstrates excellent organizational skills and task commitment. She plans and works independently within the parameters of her job, analyzes data and situations with insight and creativity. She also has the ability to work with faculty, administrators, coaches, students, and community members effectively. She is a fine person, the kind any community and school district would welcome. Her professional judgment and decision-making are exemplary and in the eyes of my school district and community, she has done only positive things. She is without a doubt a very competent attorney. Superintendents and School Board Members respect her and respond very well to her leadership as she continues to get exemplary results. I feel she is one of the best attorneys I have had the pleasure of working with. I hope she has the opportunity to perform her abilities for other school districts as she has performed exceptionally well for me and my districts. I highly recommend Ms. Heather Rutland without reservation for any task at hand.

After being recommended to me by a friend, I hired Gabriella for my case. From the first meeting, I felt like I had a great connection with her and that she was well versed in the area I was arrested for. She encouraged me to meet with other attorneys as well to make sure I got a group of perspectives before deciding (which I respected). After choosing her she was fantastic about letting me decide how much communication we had, and did a great job of keeping me in the loop about the entire process. She'd remind of all things I needed to attend, what to expect, and realistic timeframes for when things would happen. In the end, I was extremely pleased with the outcome she achieved in my case. Obviously I would have preferred not getting myself in this situation, but am extremely thankful I went with Gabi as both the process and the outcome went as well as they could have.

It may not be what you want to hear, but Mr. Ray will not sugar coat anything just to get you to be his client then learn about your case on your dime. Integrity is a trait that I value greatly when it comes to human interactions. Our innate behavior tends to make us want to trust people when we are in need of help. Mr. Ray fully understands this and will tell you honestly he is not the attorney for your case if there is a more suitable match elsewhere. Mr. Rodney Montes, Attorney is an expert at the rule of law of the Texas Board Of Nursing and the Texas Medical Board. As a result, the Board did not take any action against me and the investigation was completed and closed based on my attorney's response to the board. Courtney guided me through the most difficult experience I have had to date as an LCSW: an unfounded board complaint. The first attorney that I hired only made a bad situation worse; in contrast, Courtney provided me with sound sophisticated legal advice. After reviewing my case, which was unfortunately quite complicated, she identified and simplified the most important aspects of the complaint. Courtney was a tremendous help when I prepared my statement for the board hearing; she stayed in close communication with me and always responded in a quick and supportive manner. Her edits and suggestions strengthened my narrative, highlighting the essential truths of my case. Of course appearing before my board was stressful; however, I felt confident that I could effectively communicate with them and resolve the the problem. Mr. Jewell was extremely helpful during a security clearance adjudication and subsequent appeal. A medical provider in the Air Force had rendered a harsh evaluation, and Mr. Jewell helped build, review, and submit responses to the Department of Defense Consolidated Adjudications Facility (DOD CAF). Although my clearance was revoked, Mr. Jewell continued working and engaging through the appeal process. He provided timely and accurate information on both the clearance adjudication and appeal processes. Developing a plan for a second medical evaluation and separate medical opinion, Mr. Jewell helped my case be successfully appealed and my security clearance reinstated. He was always responsive when called or emailed, even through roughly 20 months of the clearance adjudication and appeal process. Although military members can self-represent in the process, Mr. Jewell backing my response submissions gave me great peace of mind, especially when it felt that I was being outcast by the entire base medical community. I also felt that my leadership took my case more seriously when notified that I had hired an attorney. I would never want anyone to go through the same experience, but I sincerely appreciate all the help, effort, and support from Mr. Jewell over such an extended time frame. It was very comforting and uplifting to know at least one person truly believed my side of events, and he was willing and capable to prove the facts.

I am a COTA and new to the state of Texas, so when the licensing board contacted me with a complaint of fraud, I didn't know who to call. I went online and literally "picked one." I lucked out! Mr. Andre D'Souza did a great job! He not only resolved the legal side of my case quickly but he made sure I was informed every step of the way. This was by far the most stressful time of my life and Andre really helped by being available to me anytime I had a question. I was consulted to Mr. D'Souza by a dear friend and an RN as well. Once retained, this Esquire (An Attorney at Law) and often my personal counselor when I lost it; on many occasion, which I fear, you will as well while going through your ordeal. I was quite "unnerved" with several entities. The persons who made extreme erroneous, blatant, fabricated, seditious, and simply ridiculous allegations regarding my nursing acumen. My nursing acumen are second to none! Near darn flawless! I mean, that’s how male RNs need to roll, especially when encompassed by the female persuasion and knowing this is their world, but not anymore. Men perform great in the discipline of nursing; I’m a witness to that attestation; there are those who can’t and refuse to handle it. That’s ok; because of my Attorney Andre’. Andre’ not only prevailed this case against the TX BON, but during the lengthy process, in many instances where I wished to pertest my innocence towards the very entities that were against me… he restored me, helped me calm down, and doubly reassured me. He told me sternly on a few occassions that he was my attorney both verbally and in writ, to NOT speak to ANYONE! Absolutely No One! That was a hard lesson for me to learn hence, me sharing it with you so, you don’t make the same mistake. Listen to him, and trust in him and the firm; no matter what! He and his firm not only saved my nursing license, restored my credibility, but he also saved me from those who wished to wrongfully persecute me, as well as myself. To me, Andre’ is the BEST! Retain him now and allow him to burden yours so that you may continue on to provide for your families, sons, daughters, or whomever. Thank you Andre’! So very much, Thank you! I my case I was arrested for possession of cocaine under 1 g and a misdemeanor Xanax charge. So I was looking at a felony and a misdemeanor. I have had a previous felony in another state which we all thought was going to be a factor in the final outcome. Channing being quick to move was able to get the misdemeanor dropped and the felony was dropped down to a misdemeanor. The reason that this was a great outcome was because I did have a previous felony. Whether you have the disease of addiction that has you caught up or you just got in trouble I would recommend Channing Neary. I believe that she takes every case is very personal and I believe she is very competitive. If I don't see fire in a lawyer I damn sure won't hire. My company has worked with various attorneys, especially as we've grown. With that, our needs have increased, and we were fortunate to have been referred to Matt Wood from Weisbart Springer Hayes, LLP. It's been great working with Matt, and he's been a tremendous resource for us. I can't say enough positive things about both this firm and Matt. I highly recommend them!

What a Government Lawyer Can Do for You

A government lawyer specializes in legal issues related to government policies, regulations, and disputes involving public entities. Whether you are a private individual, business, or government agency, a government lawyer provides expert guidance on navigating the complexities of government law. These attorneys handle cases ranging from constitutional law, administrative law, regulatory compliance, and government contracts to defending or challenging government actions.

Government lawyers help individuals and organizations understand their rights and obligations under the law, represent them in disputes with government agencies, and assist in matters of government contracting, procurement, or public policy.

When Should I Hire a Government Lawyer?

You should consider hiring a government lawyer in several situations involving government regulations, compliance, or disputes. Common reasons to hire a government lawyer include:

  • Government contracts and procurement: If you are bidding for or negotiating a contract with a government agency, a lawyer can help ensure compliance with federal, state, or local contracting rules.
  • Regulatory compliance: Businesses operating in highly regulated industries (e.g., healthcare, finance, environmental sectors) often need legal guidance to comply with government regulations and avoid penalties.
  • Government investigations: If you're being investigated by a government agency such as the IRS, SEC, or EPA, a government lawyer can help defend you against allegations or negotiate settlements.
  • Challenging government actions: If a government agency has denied a permit, license, or benefit, a lawyer can help you appeal or challenge the decision in court.
  • Constitutional and civil rights issues: If you believe your constitutional rights have been violated by a government entity, such as in cases involving free speech or discrimination, a government lawyer can help you seek justice.
  • Public policy or lobbying efforts: If you are involved in lobbying or advocating for policy changes at the local, state, or federal level, a government lawyer can provide legal advice on compliance with lobbying laws and strategies for effective advocacy.

Hiring a government lawyer early in the process can help you navigate complex legal frameworks and avoid costly mistakes when dealing with government-related legal issues.

What Does a Government Lawyer Do?

A government lawyer provides a wide range of services that cover interactions between individuals, businesses, and government entities. They can:

  • Assist with government contracts: Helping clients navigate procurement laws, drafting contracts, and resolving disputes related to government contracting.
  • Provide regulatory compliance advice: Offering guidance on meeting regulatory requirements for industries subject to federal, state, or local laws.
  • Handle administrative law matters: Representing clients before government agencies, such as appealing administrative decisions, applying for permits, or defending against regulatory enforcement actions.
  • Challenge or defend government actions: Representing clients in lawsuits involving government agencies, including constitutional challenges, civil rights violations, or disputes over government decisions.
  • Negotiate settlements with government entities: If a government agency is pursuing legal action against you or your business, a lawyer can negotiate settlements to avoid costly litigation.
  • Advocate for policy changes: Advising clients on legal strategies for influencing public policy, including lobbying and drafting legislation.
  • Litigate constitutional issues: Handling cases related to the Constitution, such as First Amendment rights, due process violations, or unlawful government actions.

How Are Government Lawyers Paid?

Government lawyers typically charge for their services based on the complexity of the case and the nature of the legal work involved. Common payment structures include:

  • Hourly rate: For ongoing legal matters, such as regulatory compliance or government contract disputes, lawyers may charge by the hour. Hourly rates can vary depending on the lawyer’s experience and location.
  • Flat fee: For specific services, such as drafting a government contract or filing an administrative appeal, some lawyers charge a flat fee.
  • Retainer: For clients who need ongoing legal support, such as businesses frequently interacting with government agencies, a lawyer may charge a retainer fee. This is an upfront payment that covers future legal services.
  • Contingency fee: In some cases involving litigation, such as civil rights violations, a lawyer may work on a contingency basis, meaning they only get paid if they win or settle the case.

It’s important to discuss fee structures with your lawyer during the initial consultation to avoid surprises.

How Much Does a Government Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a government lawyer depends on the complexity of the legal issue, the lawyer's experience, and their fee structure. Here are some general cost estimates:

  • Hourly rates: Government lawyers typically charge between $150 and $500 per hour, depending on their experience and the complexity of the case.
  • Flat fees: For specific legal services, such as drafting a government contract, flat fees can range from $1,000 to $5,000, depending on the nature of the service.
  • Retainer fees: A retainer for ongoing legal work with government agencies can range from $5,000 to $20,000 or more, depending on the scope and frequency of the work.
  • Contingency fees: In cases where a lawyer works on contingency, their fee is usually a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or damages awarded if the case is successful.

Be sure to get a clear estimate of costs during your consultation to ensure that you understand the fees associated with your case.

Top Questions to Ask a Government Lawyer

When hiring a government lawyer, it’s essential to ask the right questions to ensure they have the experience and skills needed for your specific situation. Key questions to ask include:

  1. What is your experience with government law cases?
Make sure the lawyer has substantial experience in handling cases or issues involving government agencies, regulatory compliance, or constitutional law.
  2. What is your fee structure?
Ask how the lawyer charges for their services - whether by the hour, flat fee, retainer, or contingency fee - and request an estimate of costs.
  3. What are the potential outcomes of my case?
Ask for an honest assessment of your legal options and the likelihood of success based on your specific situation.
  4. How do you handle interactions with government agencies?
Ask about their approach to dealing with government entities and their experience with specific agencies relevant to your case (e.g., IRS, EPA, SEC).
  5. Have you handled cases like mine before?
Ask about their experience with similar cases and whether they have achieved favorable outcomes in the past.
  6. Who will handle my case?
Clarify whether the lawyer you are meeting with will personally handle your case or whether junior attorneys or paralegals will do most of the work.

How to Check the Credibility of a Government Lawyer

To ensure you’re hiring a reputable government lawyer, follow these steps to verify their credentials and reputation:

  • Check state bar association records: Confirm that the lawyer is licensed to practice in your state and has no history of disciplinary actions.
  • Review their professional experience: Look for specific experience in government-related legal issues, such as regulatory compliance, government contracts, or administrative law, on their website or professional profile.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Check online reviews and ratings on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to get insight into the lawyer’s reputation and track record.
  • Ask for references: Request references from previous clients who have worked with the lawyer on government-related matters to understand their experience and effectiveness.
  • Check for membership in relevant organizations: Look for memberships in professional organizations such as the American Bar Association's Administrative Law Section or the National Institute of Government Procurement, which can indicate the lawyer’s focus on government law.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first meeting with a government lawyer, it’s important to come prepared with relevant information and documents. Here’s what you should bring:

  • Detailed description of your legal issue: Be prepared to explain your situation, whether it’s a regulatory compliance question, a government contract issue, or a dispute with a government agency.
  • Relevant documents: Bring any paperwork related to your case, such as contracts, permits, letters from government agencies, or notices of investigation.
  • A list of questions: Write down any questions you have about your case, including the legal process, potential outcomes, and costs.
  • Timeline of events: Provide a clear timeline of any relevant events, such as the issuance of government orders or interactions with government agencies.
  • Goals for the outcome: Be ready to discuss what you hope to achieve, whether it’s a favorable settlement, regulatory compliance, or overturning a government decision.

By being organized and prepared, you can help your lawyer understand your situation more quickly and give you the best legal advice moving forward.
