I am a real estate professional who retained Jason Campbell with great success to handle a significant DOT taking in the past affecting my business. He looked past what was happening on that property to see how the taking from the larger shopping center would affect my building. I called him to discuss a current condemnation issue and he gave me clear and succinct advice. I would recommend him highly.

I’m so thankful to have the opportunity to share my experience with Thorp Law. From the beginning, Isaac and his paralegal Tammy expressed empathy with regard to the unforeseen situation I had found myself in following an MVA in November of 2023. At my very first meeting with Isaac and Tammy, they helped me to understand the process I was getting ready to face, as well as their initial plan of action. Also, as I’m sure every law firm does, both of them told me that should I ever have any questions, to not hesitate to reach out to them. Following that consultation, and during the course of their representation of me, every time I had a question, and I do mean every time, Isaac and/or Tammy always responded promptly to any question I had about my case. I can honestly say I never had to wait or track either of them down to get a response. I feel like my MVA claim was handled professionally, and I always felt that I was in the most capable hands possible. I would absolutely recommend Thorp Law to anyone who finds themselves in the unfortunate position of suffering from injuries resulting in unforeseen circumstances following an MVA. Isaac and Tammy truly care about their clients, and you will not feel like a number to them, as they both are genuinely concerned about the welfare of each of their clients and work hard to get the best possible outcome.

We found a great team in Isaac, Tammy and Claudia. They all played a vital role in helping us through this difficult situation. I don't think most of us seek this out but it's always good to know that there are highly qualified and compassionate lawyers that we can turn to. I would not hesitate to turn to Isaac and his team and would highly recommend them to anyone.

To The Law Office of Neubia L Harris, thank you for your dedication, prompt service, professionalism, and care you’ve shown me. Atty Harris was the only lawyer in NC I could find that was willing to help me hold a school system accountable and not charge me an exorbitant fee. I am grateful and I hope I won’t need your services in the future, but if an issue arises, I will give you a call and will always speak highly and refer your firm. Thank you for your assistance.

I hired attorney Harris to represent my daughter in a case against a school/district where my daughter was wrongfully suspended. I provided a wealth of evidence and documentation and at the time of the hearing attorney Harris asked very few questions to opposing council and school staff. I felt like she was on the side of the school/district instead of my daughter’s side. I was extremely disappointed and she offered only a 30 minute prep right before the hearing. I don’t think she had the time nor reviewed my case as she was paid to do.

Highly recommend Dement Askew & Johnson’s Attorneys office to anyone seeking highly professional and qualified experts that actually care about your case or particular situation and will go above and beyond to accomplish the best possible outcome. I was represented be Tyler C. Ellenberg who patiently handled my case with an excellent demeanor and as I personally know how busy attorneys can be, he treated my case as if it was priority and did everything in his power to yield results that couldn’t be better. I don’t usually leave reviews but I can’t help but brag about the exceptional service I received with hope that others will read this and benefit from a law firm that’s genuinely top-notch and actually wants to help people. Thanks again for the wonderful experience and well-pleased results.

I would not hear from him nor my daughter in law would see him attend to business. The man mumbles and I could not understand most of what he was saying even though he was apprised I am hard of hearing. 20 months and nothing he said he would do was done. Matthew Minikus is an educated and experienced attorney, but what sets him apart is his passion and ability to fight in the courtroom. He was focused and confident as he presented my case, skillfully interviewed witnesses, and quickly objected to unfair statements. We were successful because of this but even more importantly is that he put in the work. We went to court four times, and each time he took me into a private room to thoroughly review the case. He examined it from every angle, over and over, until we developed a strong, truthful argument to present to the judge. In stark contrast, other attorneys simply waved to their clients, had a brief chat, and then spent the rest of their time socializing until their cases were called. It was off putting and sad how some professionals can be so indifferent. Please remember that if this is something serious don't just assume people are going to do the right thing. Call Matthew and talk to him for 15 minutes. A small amount of time to invest in your future. I'm sure you will be happy.

Not only would I recommend Jim, I have recommended Jim to various business associates! First and foremost, Jim Secor is interested in finding a solution to the issue at-hand; NOT padding his bill. While compromise is generally his first inclination, he has absolutely no trepidation about vigorously pursuing litigation if that is what the situation demands. I have worked with a great number of attorneys over the past 30+ years in business and Jim's skills are unparalleled.

Mr. Secor provided us with our best interest as a priority. Very straight forward in keeping us apprised of information as it became pertinent to our situation. He always moved in a foward progress and stayed true to the objection of the goals. His professionalism and diligence is exemplary of why he is considered of the best in his field if not the best. Finally, he was a Navy JAG and service to our beloved country is important to us.

I met Jim about 10 years ago when someone recommended him to me. From the start I liked the fact that Jim did not have an office filled with expensive trophy items, that says alot if you know what I mean. Nothing I can't stand more than "Super This" or "AV" that. As for Jim, he was straight forward and honest. He was to the point and realistic. And we prevailed in my case! Over the years, I have used him again, recommended him to friends and family, and currently he is our lawyer in a civil case. Everyone that Ive referred him too has had nothing but good things to say about him. Ive come to learn Jim Secor is a well respected honest man, but mostly...Ive really come to like the person that he is. Thank you Jim for all you've done for me and those ive referred to you! I hope you practice law in Guilford County for years to come! As far as lawyers go, you are truly one in a million.

She new Bank of America bought our mortgage from Wilshire but would not admit we had a 2 percent fix rate for the remaining 26 years. After 33 months of being charge 8.5 percent interest she made Bank of America an offer to forgo litigation rights we had and to settle the mortgage outside of a court room. Bank of America sold our mortgage 2 weeks later . She is not afraid to go up against the big banks while being more than fair on her charges compared to what other attorney's charge . I was never over charged or charge for work she did not do . I highly recommend her.

Vance represented me in North Carolina about 15-20 years ago on some difficult charges related to losing my driver's license (which I felt was unjustified). I found him to be extremely capable, professional, and competent while I most appreciated his straightforward assessment of my situation and some likely outcomes and/or possibilities. He does not sugar-coat nor is he overly pessimistic. An IVY league graduate and UNC-Law, Vance has complete mastery of the both the law and the political issues involving the court system. His knowledge was invaluable and he helped have my case adjudicated to my satisfaction.

Mr. Bowens cares more about his clients than most people can imagine. He is my educational attorney for my special needs child and has fought hard for him to receive the proper education as afforded by state and federal law. He is truly an advocate for children, specifically special needs children.

Simple speeding ticket case, Emily's office stayed in contact and ended with a great result. Case was out of state for me and way easier to have her represent me, work toward, and achieve a better result than I could have expected.

Mel is an exceptional attorney who always makes the client comfortable in all situations. He is very intellectual and "smart." I was able to keep my license because he understood the law and was able to present my case in a manner in which the board could understand. He is one of the brightest young lawers in Raleigh.

Mr. Linesberry represented my dad in a 3 day long divorce trial recently. This is my first time ever writing a review about anyone or anything but I just have to. "Duke" Linesberry is by far the best attorney I have ever met. He did a spectacular job during the trial . He not only works as hard as he can he genuinely cares. We were all upset at this very stressful time but seeing how he fought for my dad and most importantly was by his side being so supportive that it actually put my dad at ease as well as all of us. I live in NY and am getting divorced I even joked I would pay any amount of money to steal him for 3 days to represent me in NY . I highly recommend Mr. Linesberry because not only is he a hard worker, he's exceptionally smart and genuinely cares

What a Government Lawyer Can Do for You

A government lawyer specializes in legal issues related to government policies, regulations, and disputes involving public entities. Whether you are a private individual, business, or government agency, a government lawyer provides expert guidance on navigating the complexities of government law. These attorneys handle cases ranging from constitutional law, administrative law, regulatory compliance, and government contracts to defending or challenging government actions.

Government lawyers help individuals and organizations understand their rights and obligations under the law, represent them in disputes with government agencies, and assist in matters of government contracting, procurement, or public policy.

When Should I Hire a Government Lawyer?

You should consider hiring a government lawyer in several situations involving government regulations, compliance, or disputes. Common reasons to hire a government lawyer include:

  • Government contracts and procurement: If you are bidding for or negotiating a contract with a government agency, a lawyer can help ensure compliance with federal, state, or local contracting rules.
  • Regulatory compliance: Businesses operating in highly regulated industries (e.g., healthcare, finance, environmental sectors) often need legal guidance to comply with government regulations and avoid penalties.
  • Government investigations: If you're being investigated by a government agency such as the IRS, SEC, or EPA, a government lawyer can help defend you against allegations or negotiate settlements.
  • Challenging government actions: If a government agency has denied a permit, license, or benefit, a lawyer can help you appeal or challenge the decision in court.
  • Constitutional and civil rights issues: If you believe your constitutional rights have been violated by a government entity, such as in cases involving free speech or discrimination, a government lawyer can help you seek justice.
  • Public policy or lobbying efforts: If you are involved in lobbying or advocating for policy changes at the local, state, or federal level, a government lawyer can provide legal advice on compliance with lobbying laws and strategies for effective advocacy.

Hiring a government lawyer early in the process can help you navigate complex legal frameworks and avoid costly mistakes when dealing with government-related legal issues.

What Does a Government Lawyer Do?

A government lawyer provides a wide range of services that cover interactions between individuals, businesses, and government entities. They can:

  • Assist with government contracts: Helping clients navigate procurement laws, drafting contracts, and resolving disputes related to government contracting.
  • Provide regulatory compliance advice: Offering guidance on meeting regulatory requirements for industries subject to federal, state, or local laws.
  • Handle administrative law matters: Representing clients before government agencies, such as appealing administrative decisions, applying for permits, or defending against regulatory enforcement actions.
  • Challenge or defend government actions: Representing clients in lawsuits involving government agencies, including constitutional challenges, civil rights violations, or disputes over government decisions.
  • Negotiate settlements with government entities: If a government agency is pursuing legal action against you or your business, a lawyer can negotiate settlements to avoid costly litigation.
  • Advocate for policy changes: Advising clients on legal strategies for influencing public policy, including lobbying and drafting legislation.
  • Litigate constitutional issues: Handling cases related to the Constitution, such as First Amendment rights, due process violations, or unlawful government actions.

How Are Government Lawyers Paid?

Government lawyers typically charge for their services based on the complexity of the case and the nature of the legal work involved. Common payment structures include:

  • Hourly rate: For ongoing legal matters, such as regulatory compliance or government contract disputes, lawyers may charge by the hour. Hourly rates can vary depending on the lawyer’s experience and location.
  • Flat fee: For specific services, such as drafting a government contract or filing an administrative appeal, some lawyers charge a flat fee.
  • Retainer: For clients who need ongoing legal support, such as businesses frequently interacting with government agencies, a lawyer may charge a retainer fee. This is an upfront payment that covers future legal services.
  • Contingency fee: In some cases involving litigation, such as civil rights violations, a lawyer may work on a contingency basis, meaning they only get paid if they win or settle the case.

It’s important to discuss fee structures with your lawyer during the initial consultation to avoid surprises.

How Much Does a Government Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a government lawyer depends on the complexity of the legal issue, the lawyer's experience, and their fee structure. Here are some general cost estimates:

  • Hourly rates: Government lawyers typically charge between $150 and $500 per hour, depending on their experience and the complexity of the case.
  • Flat fees: For specific legal services, such as drafting a government contract, flat fees can range from $1,000 to $5,000, depending on the nature of the service.
  • Retainer fees: A retainer for ongoing legal work with government agencies can range from $5,000 to $20,000 or more, depending on the scope and frequency of the work.
  • Contingency fees: In cases where a lawyer works on contingency, their fee is usually a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or damages awarded if the case is successful.

Be sure to get a clear estimate of costs during your consultation to ensure that you understand the fees associated with your case.

Top Questions to Ask a Government Lawyer

When hiring a government lawyer, it’s essential to ask the right questions to ensure they have the experience and skills needed for your specific situation. Key questions to ask include:

  1. What is your experience with government law cases?
Make sure the lawyer has substantial experience in handling cases or issues involving government agencies, regulatory compliance, or constitutional law.
  2. What is your fee structure?
Ask how the lawyer charges for their services - whether by the hour, flat fee, retainer, or contingency fee - and request an estimate of costs.
  3. What are the potential outcomes of my case?
Ask for an honest assessment of your legal options and the likelihood of success based on your specific situation.
  4. How do you handle interactions with government agencies?
Ask about their approach to dealing with government entities and their experience with specific agencies relevant to your case (e.g., IRS, EPA, SEC).
  5. Have you handled cases like mine before?
Ask about their experience with similar cases and whether they have achieved favorable outcomes in the past.
  6. Who will handle my case?
Clarify whether the lawyer you are meeting with will personally handle your case or whether junior attorneys or paralegals will do most of the work.

How to Check the Credibility of a Government Lawyer

To ensure you’re hiring a reputable government lawyer, follow these steps to verify their credentials and reputation:

  • Check state bar association records: Confirm that the lawyer is licensed to practice in your state and has no history of disciplinary actions.
  • Review their professional experience: Look for specific experience in government-related legal issues, such as regulatory compliance, government contracts, or administrative law, on their website or professional profile.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Check online reviews and ratings on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to get insight into the lawyer’s reputation and track record.
  • Ask for references: Request references from previous clients who have worked with the lawyer on government-related matters to understand their experience and effectiveness.
  • Check for membership in relevant organizations: Look for memberships in professional organizations such as the American Bar Association's Administrative Law Section or the National Institute of Government Procurement, which can indicate the lawyer’s focus on government law.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first meeting with a government lawyer, it’s important to come prepared with relevant information and documents. Here’s what you should bring:

  • Detailed description of your legal issue: Be prepared to explain your situation, whether it’s a regulatory compliance question, a government contract issue, or a dispute with a government agency.
  • Relevant documents: Bring any paperwork related to your case, such as contracts, permits, letters from government agencies, or notices of investigation.
  • A list of questions: Write down any questions you have about your case, including the legal process, potential outcomes, and costs.
  • Timeline of events: Provide a clear timeline of any relevant events, such as the issuance of government orders or interactions with government agencies.
  • Goals for the outcome: Be ready to discuss what you hope to achieve, whether it’s a favorable settlement, regulatory compliance, or overturning a government decision.

By being organized and prepared, you can help your lawyer understand your situation more quickly and give you the best legal advice moving forward.
