I found Mr. Malone to be completely untrustworthy. Each time I had a question, I would have to contact him 4x just to get a response. I did the majority of the research myself. He spent less than an hour on my case and charged me $800 for "his" time.

Valencia Nash is the type of person who rather play football in court than practice Law of Evidence. I am even having to wait for another trial in four cases that was already tried in her court because of how crooked she is. In one case, the jury found that I proved my case by a Preponderance of the evidence but they still also found in favor of the Defendant and that I take nothing from the suit..... HOW DOES THAT HAPPEN??? ANOTHER CASE WAS WHERE THE ATTORNEY GAVE HER OPENING STATEMENT TELLING THE JURY THAT YES HER CLIENT RAN INTO THE BACK OF ME BUT THE JURY CAME BACK WITH A NOT GUILTY PLEA EVEN AFTER WATCHING THE VIDEO OF HIM SLAMMING INTO THE BACK OF ME..... ONLY IN HER COURTROOM CAN THESE THINGS HAPPEN...... THEN WHEN THIS LADY HIT ME FROM THE SIDE OF MY VEHICLE, THE DEFENDANT SHOWED HER THE PICTURES AND EVEN AFTER VALENCIA NASH LOOKED AT THE PICTURES SHE ASKED ME IF I HAD MY OWN EVIDENCE TO PROVIDE. WHEN I TOLD HER THAT THEY WOULD BE THE SAME THING THEN SHE TOLD ME THAT SHE WAS DISMISSING THE CASE IN FAVOR OF THE DEFENDANT SINCE I DIDN'T HAVE ANY EVIDENCE.... THE SAME PICTURES THAT SHE WAS HOLDING IN HER HANDS LOOKING AT ON HIS PHONE.

I had a mediation with him. He seemed to want to prove he was right rather than help resolve the case. He is ill-tempered, has awful people skills and at times was even insolent on a personal basis. His personality is the exact opposite of what you would look for in a skillful mediator.

I had hired Ms. Connor for a de novo in a family law case. We had already spoken at length about the case prior to her being retained, so that by the time of our first meeting, we were able to quickly come to an agreement on both strategy & tactics. However, the next day, she called me and kept going around in circles rationalizing that agreement, which began to raise a red flag in my mind as she was now billing me, but I remained calm & patient, figuring that she just wanted to be cautious. But the day after that, she began hitting me with one email after another, revisiting issues that had already been put to bed, and that's when I realized that this was her MO. She ran up my time needlessly, treating my retainer as a carte blanche. Any doubts about Ms. Connor's motives were completely dispelled when I received her first billing statement. On it, she had charged me for her fee agreement, in addition to all those useless chatter mentioned above. Seriously? I'm being asked to pay for a template which spells out how much I'm to pay for her services. Imagine having to pay an extra fee for a hotel to provide you with a standard contract listing their nightly rate, or a financial advisor for their fee agreement. This is both ridiculous and outrageous! Do some internet research on Ms. Connor and you will learn a lot which may cause you to pause for thought. I've learned my lesson. You don't have to repeat my mistake.

I had a broken leg. Acted like he didn't know or care. Took my Drivers license away from me and would not respond. Same result from Greg Abbott, his boss, I wrote letters, emails, called and called. Explained my problems about employment. Searched earnestly for work. Class C drivers Lic. required. Got a job and risked all my efforts to find the job and the job it's self, and the potential for them to take child support by continuing to drive illegal. No response. That's about irresponsible.

Miss McLaughlin represented me in my divorce case back in 2010. The law firm that she works for cost me alot of money. I went back to them to try and get it rectified but they said there was nothing that they can do. I got another lawyer from Killeen to correct the mistacks that she made. My new lawyer corrected part of the mess up ,but I'm still fighting DFAS for the return of my money that my exwife was over payed for 4 years.

I hired Mr. Barnes, thinking that he would be able to help me with my DBA claim by obtaining a reasonable compensation for my injuries sustained in Afghanistan. What seemed like an open-and-shut case, turned into almost 2 years of cat-and-mouse chase. Mr. Barnes never showed any compassion, presented vague goals, and came up with various excuses to bury this case, until disappearing all together. If you want an attorney who, instead of representing your interests, will lie to you and abet an insurance company - then Mr. Barnes is your lawyer. Otherwise find someone else.

He took the 1000 dollar retainer and disappeared. Chad is a fast talker and had me convinced he would be the guy for the job. The money was paid by credit card over the phone, and I thought I could rest easy knowing I had legal help. Later his office ignored my requests for filing paperwork. He showed one time in court and did not file any motions as promised. He would not send and invoice for charges, hung up on me multiple times when I asked for an explanation Of my case and why no motions had been filed after 6 months of my ex wife not showing with my son for court ordered visitation. Then later Chad withdrew from my case weeks before my next court date. No warning no phone call or letter. I found out through the distric clerks office. I feel helpless in what happened to me and had hard earned money taken. I live in Austin and their office is in Freestone county. They do not return calls or email, and took full advantage of my situation and putting money in their pocket.I would advise anyone looking for legal help to please avoid this man. He told me everything I wanted to hear and soon as money was sent I was brushed off and it was a very sad situation. I was fighting for custody of my son. If I had proper representation I feel I would have won. Due to extreme negligence by Chad Morgan and no motions filed as promised we didnt even stand a chance. Please do not waist time or money on this man.

I was given a recommendation to this attorney as a good DTPA attorney. My attorney contacted him and after discussing ongoing litigation was stated to return call on the following Tuesday. I called on Thursday to see why he hadn't returned call. He stated he had forgotten. We discussed case was going to discuss with his firm and get back to me that afternoon. No return call. Sent several emails and not even the courtesy to return the emails or simply say NO the Firm was not interested in the case. Why would I want representation from a lawyer that has no respect or decency of even a return call to turn down the offer of counsel. He clearly needs to learn respect and consideration.

I hired this attorney to represent me in a professional licensing issue. His firm drained $39,297 from me on a license defense for me and didn't earn a fraction of it. He treated me with anger and verbal aggression. Rather than answering simple questions that would have easily resolved problems in the way he was handling my case, he chose to scream at me, terminate me as a client without stating why, and just hang up on me. He left me "high & dry" without providing any referrals for a new attorney. He and his staff was very defensive all along about how I my trust fund was specifically being used by his firm. I continuously had to ask for simple ledger sheets that showed how my funds went into my trust account and how they were removed from it. His firm is very resistant to provide simple ledger sheets about the accountability of your trust funds. They insist that you just "trust them completely" about their use of your funds and not question how the money specifically flows in and out of your account. If my trust fund account fell below a certain amount, rather that notifying me of such, he and other staff members would just discontinue talking to me. He spend money from my trust account without my permission and without obtaining specific documentation proof that the money was even due. I've never in the past have a legal firm treat me this way. If you are not willing to accept charges to your account without proper, easy to follow accounting for it; and will not tolerate being treated in a very aggressive manner if you question your trust account at all, you will want to avoid using this attorney and the firm he works for.

What she failed to mention is that my name would still be attached to the mortgage for the remainder of the term, 25 years and it could be used to determine my credit worthiness. Bad advise....

If he returned the call they were curt and he would say he does not do business by phone, and would reply to the emails the same way. yet when we made appts. found it very easy to cancel for other commitments.

I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS ATTORNEY AS HE DOES NOT TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR PAST ACTIONS, TO REMEDY ERRORS.

The world needs to know about the illegal activity that took placed years ago. I even have emails from my abusive ex husband detailing the illegal activity they engaged in which isnt limited to filing forged documents, harrassing me, showing up to my residence, etc. If you all care about the legal system its time to get rid of people who are harming out children and this woman If she harmed mine Im sure there are other children and women whove went through the same or worse. Im not going to stop speaking out until I know children are safe from this person. Im going to use the same legal system she demeans and abuses to harm children to get kids lik my daughter Justice. We were sent to Kathy through our employer at a discounted rate and Kathy treated us like we were discounted customers. I'd say representing us in mediation was an overstatement. She rushed us through mediation because she had another client and our wishes for the updated order were inaccurate due to her rushing. When we emailed her to follow up on anything, she was like a robot that would just forward our email to the other lawyer. She didn't put any thought or effort into anything. She just forwarded emails between the people involved but never stood up for us when the other lawyer was incorrect. She was late on meeting the deadline for submitting our new order for child support and we were left to take the money out of our checks ourselves, instead of it coming from our employer properly and no one could agree on the correct amount we would owe. We submitted money to the other parent through our bank per the lawyers orders and 6 months later we were in trouble with the attorney general saying we never paid. They wouldn't even accept the payment. Our lawyer Kathy said we wouldn't even owe because they missed the deadline with submitting the be order but that wasn't true. We paid anyway and then it didn't even count. Then we owed more money. All because she didn't do her job. That and when we emailed her after mediation she told us we would owe more money to retain her to keep working with her. When she didn't even finish the job and we were now fighting over money owed because the lawyers missed the damn deadline!! She's the worst. Never ever ever hire her. She seems okay until you pay her and she deems her job over. She doesn't care at all.

After paying Lara Silva to represent my sister in an appeal, we paid $45k. Lara Silva did not provide services. She took the payment and then stopped all communications with me. I had the horrible pleasure of coming in contact with Mr. Edmond O'suji through a referral. In all my years I never seen such fraud, deceit and misrepresentation so much before in my life. This attorney has been deemed negligent, he failed to allow or advise me on proper process or ethical process of my case, he accepted a plea without my knowledge, he entered into a financial arrangement regarding my case without communicating anything to me. As a result my integrity and my case has been compromised. Future word of advice to any future prospects that are considering retaining this gentleman. Please do yourself a favor and save yourself the headache of dealing with dishonest attorney that will make provisions and accept pleas without your knowledge. He does not care about the consumer and has been known to misinform clients for his own gain.

Janet says the right things, but once you pay her she won't do the work either because she doesn't know what to do or maybe because she's too busy? I had to consult other lawyers on my own dime and then tell her what paperwork to file. She couldn't manage to close probate in over two years (seriously!) and I finally had to hire another lawyer. Janet stalled over three months on signing off her contract so I could hire a new lawyer. I paid her over $5,000. She literally charged me each time I had to tell her to do her job. What a Government Lawyer Can Do for You

A government lawyer specializes in legal issues related to government policies, regulations, and disputes involving public entities. Whether you are a private individual, business, or government agency, a government lawyer provides expert guidance on navigating the complexities of government law. These attorneys handle cases ranging from constitutional law, administrative law, regulatory compliance, and government contracts to defending or challenging government actions.

Government lawyers help individuals and organizations understand their rights and obligations under the law, represent them in disputes with government agencies, and assist in matters of government contracting, procurement, or public policy.

When Should I Hire a Government Lawyer?

You should consider hiring a government lawyer in several situations involving government regulations, compliance, or disputes. Common reasons to hire a government lawyer include:

  • Government contracts and procurement: If you are bidding for or negotiating a contract with a government agency, a lawyer can help ensure compliance with federal, state, or local contracting rules.
  • Regulatory compliance: Businesses operating in highly regulated industries (e.g., healthcare, finance, environmental sectors) often need legal guidance to comply with government regulations and avoid penalties.
  • Government investigations: If you're being investigated by a government agency such as the IRS, SEC, or EPA, a government lawyer can help defend you against allegations or negotiate settlements.
  • Challenging government actions: If a government agency has denied a permit, license, or benefit, a lawyer can help you appeal or challenge the decision in court.
  • Constitutional and civil rights issues: If you believe your constitutional rights have been violated by a government entity, such as in cases involving free speech or discrimination, a government lawyer can help you seek justice.
  • Public policy or lobbying efforts: If you are involved in lobbying or advocating for policy changes at the local, state, or federal level, a government lawyer can provide legal advice on compliance with lobbying laws and strategies for effective advocacy.

Hiring a government lawyer early in the process can help you navigate complex legal frameworks and avoid costly mistakes when dealing with government-related legal issues.

What Does a Government Lawyer Do?

A government lawyer provides a wide range of services that cover interactions between individuals, businesses, and government entities. They can:

  • Assist with government contracts: Helping clients navigate procurement laws, drafting contracts, and resolving disputes related to government contracting.
  • Provide regulatory compliance advice: Offering guidance on meeting regulatory requirements for industries subject to federal, state, or local laws.
  • Handle administrative law matters: Representing clients before government agencies, such as appealing administrative decisions, applying for permits, or defending against regulatory enforcement actions.
  • Challenge or defend government actions: Representing clients in lawsuits involving government agencies, including constitutional challenges, civil rights violations, or disputes over government decisions.
  • Negotiate settlements with government entities: If a government agency is pursuing legal action against you or your business, a lawyer can negotiate settlements to avoid costly litigation.
  • Advocate for policy changes: Advising clients on legal strategies for influencing public policy, including lobbying and drafting legislation.
  • Litigate constitutional issues: Handling cases related to the Constitution, such as First Amendment rights, due process violations, or unlawful government actions.

How Are Government Lawyers Paid?

Government lawyers typically charge for their services based on the complexity of the case and the nature of the legal work involved. Common payment structures include:

  • Hourly rate: For ongoing legal matters, such as regulatory compliance or government contract disputes, lawyers may charge by the hour. Hourly rates can vary depending on the lawyer’s experience and location.
  • Flat fee: For specific services, such as drafting a government contract or filing an administrative appeal, some lawyers charge a flat fee.
  • Retainer: For clients who need ongoing legal support, such as businesses frequently interacting with government agencies, a lawyer may charge a retainer fee. This is an upfront payment that covers future legal services.
  • Contingency fee: In some cases involving litigation, such as civil rights violations, a lawyer may work on a contingency basis, meaning they only get paid if they win or settle the case.

It’s important to discuss fee structures with your lawyer during the initial consultation to avoid surprises.

How Much Does a Government Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a government lawyer depends on the complexity of the legal issue, the lawyer's experience, and their fee structure. Here are some general cost estimates:

  • Hourly rates: Government lawyers typically charge between $150 and $500 per hour, depending on their experience and the complexity of the case.
  • Flat fees: For specific legal services, such as drafting a government contract, flat fees can range from $1,000 to $5,000, depending on the nature of the service.
  • Retainer fees: A retainer for ongoing legal work with government agencies can range from $5,000 to $20,000 or more, depending on the scope and frequency of the work.
  • Contingency fees: In cases where a lawyer works on contingency, their fee is usually a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or damages awarded if the case is successful.

Be sure to get a clear estimate of costs during your consultation to ensure that you understand the fees associated with your case.

Top Questions to Ask a Government Lawyer

When hiring a government lawyer, it’s essential to ask the right questions to ensure they have the experience and skills needed for your specific situation. Key questions to ask include:

  1. What is your experience with government law cases?
Make sure the lawyer has substantial experience in handling cases or issues involving government agencies, regulatory compliance, or constitutional law.
  2. What is your fee structure?
Ask how the lawyer charges for their services - whether by the hour, flat fee, retainer, or contingency fee - and request an estimate of costs.
  3. What are the potential outcomes of my case?
Ask for an honest assessment of your legal options and the likelihood of success based on your specific situation.
  4. How do you handle interactions with government agencies?
Ask about their approach to dealing with government entities and their experience with specific agencies relevant to your case (e.g., IRS, EPA, SEC).
  5. Have you handled cases like mine before?
Ask about their experience with similar cases and whether they have achieved favorable outcomes in the past.
  6. Who will handle my case?
Clarify whether the lawyer you are meeting with will personally handle your case or whether junior attorneys or paralegals will do most of the work.

How to Check the Credibility of a Government Lawyer

To ensure you’re hiring a reputable government lawyer, follow these steps to verify their credentials and reputation:

  • Check state bar association records: Confirm that the lawyer is licensed to practice in your state and has no history of disciplinary actions.
  • Review their professional experience: Look for specific experience in government-related legal issues, such as regulatory compliance, government contracts, or administrative law, on their website or professional profile.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Check online reviews and ratings on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to get insight into the lawyer’s reputation and track record.
  • Ask for references: Request references from previous clients who have worked with the lawyer on government-related matters to understand their experience and effectiveness.
  • Check for membership in relevant organizations: Look for memberships in professional organizations such as the American Bar Association's Administrative Law Section or the National Institute of Government Procurement, which can indicate the lawyer’s focus on government law.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first meeting with a government lawyer, it’s important to come prepared with relevant information and documents. Here’s what you should bring:

  • Detailed description of your legal issue: Be prepared to explain your situation, whether it’s a regulatory compliance question, a government contract issue, or a dispute with a government agency.
  • Relevant documents: Bring any paperwork related to your case, such as contracts, permits, letters from government agencies, or notices of investigation.
  • A list of questions: Write down any questions you have about your case, including the legal process, potential outcomes, and costs.
  • Timeline of events: Provide a clear timeline of any relevant events, such as the issuance of government orders or interactions with government agencies.
  • Goals for the outcome: Be ready to discuss what you hope to achieve, whether it’s a favorable settlement, regulatory compliance, or overturning a government decision.

By being organized and prepared, you can help your lawyer understand your situation more quickly and give you the best legal advice moving forward.
