I've been having problems with immigration for the past four years. In this period of time i had several lawyers that represented my case. all of them were suggested by friends and family. truth is, if a lawyer helped you in "Your" specific case doesn't makes him/her a good lawyer. as result i gave up on their suggestions and start looking up for a good lawyer online. i found Mr Massard rate was a very good lawyer on avvo ,"as a young gentleman" . now he is my attorney and have been represented me for six months now. he is being a very good lawyer, he really fight for my case and always keep me informed . i strongly recommend him and so i did to my brother.

Louis Massard has been handling a immigration case for an employee during the last year. He has done a great job keeping us informed. It has been a tough case and has not finished it to date. We had previously worked with another lawyer and it wasn't handled well at all. Louis is very informative and lets us know the good as well as the bad. We appreciate his honesty to us. I feel good to say he does what is best for client and puts his best fight forward and that's why I feel we will win our case!

I would like to thank Brooke Claiborne for all of her support, knowledge, and kindness with me throughout the process to petition for my residency. I truly believe that if it wasn’t for her and her knowledge, my application would still be in limbo in someone’s desk. Thank you so much Brooke and Pardo Law! After a very difficult Visa process, we hired Tanya to help us get my husband to the US. She was so very thorough, I still have the two boxes of "proof" she submitted to USCIS. Finally his second interview came and he was approved after a 5 year ADministrative process. When his citizenship was an option. We reached out and hired her again. It took us less than a year, she made sure he had all of the documents, all of his quesitons answered and made sure he was prepared for the interview. He passed the interview and took the oath, registered to vote the very same day. Just received an email from her to let us know she has closed his file. I should have hired her in the very beginning. However, she did a fantastic job making sure we followed the rules and submitted all of the correct documentation. I'm glad we don't have to do this again but if we did, I would reach out to her immediately and let her to the job she does so well.

When we met with Vicky and her staff they were friendly and knowledgeable. Immediately the anxiety that is caused by the immigration process was much less. Vicky and her staff guided us through the immigration process and was always on top of all important dates and paperwork. I could not of imagined how I cold of made it through the immigration process without the kindness an professionalism Vicky and her staff showed us.

My husband and I had recently married. It was a joyous time for us, but there was a lot of worry that we knew we would have to immediately deal with. I was not in the US legally and being sent back to my country temporary or forever was our biggest fear. We were referred to Vicky and reach out to her. Immediately Vicky met with us and had calmness to her regarding our case. She treated us with the upmost importance and showed us empathy, concern and most of all confidence. Vicky showed great knowledge of the immigration law. She was quick to begin our case and was there for us for every question or concern. She turned a worry some time into a time of joy and anticipation. We had moved out of state after the beginning of our proceedings and Vicky stayed with us throughout never missing a beat. I never had to return to my country while awaiting my interview and now I am here legally. I will never be able to thank Vicky and her office enough.

Daniel, is a great lawyer. I was looking for a lawyer around the Charlotte area, and I saw more than 5 other lawyers in Central Avenue and Uptown and for the most part I felt they are not trustworthy, and they were giving me some hard time with flexibility and hidden fees. For instance, one of the lawyers gave me an offer and two minutes later I forgot to ask him something and he told me that would'nt be included, and also another thing would'nt be included. I calculated the fees and I found out that I will pay double what the lawyer offered. I'm glad I found Daniel! I was referred to him by one of my co-workers and he told me he is very trustworthy and fees are fixed. Daniel welcomed me into this office and went straight to the purpose of the visit and mentioned the offer orally and within an hour we signed the contract discussed the fees, and Daniel insisted that there were no "hidden fees". Also, as I'm an Auditor and I have late nights at work and even I get no lunch break sometimes, Daniel offered me to have appointments on Saturdays, which I think no lawyer in the Charlotte area would do. He is very responsive to the phone calls and emails, unlike some other lawyers who never answer you back. Daniel makes sure that he follows up with every mail from the immigration and updates me instantly. Thank you Daniel!!

My name is Laurentiu and I am Professionl Tennis Coach.I would highly recommended Charlotte Immigration Law Firm, especially Ben Sneyder and Alex Muntean. They were always available and extremely helpful with all my questions. I am a professional tennis coach, I came to the United States with Visa O1 Extraordinary Ability Athletics and my first attempt to receive EB1 Extraordinary Ability Athletics was denied, because of poor quality of work of one of the lawyers in DC area. To transfer from O1 Extraordinary Abilithy to EB1 Extraordinary Ability is one of the hardest process towards Green Card Resident. After I found Charlotte Immigration Law Firm, both Ben and Alex from the first conversation showed their professionalism and dedication for their work. They helped me to fix and organize my paperwork, and follow me through each step of the process. No matter how difficult my case was and complicated problems were every time they showed confidence, professionalism and a great support. If you want confident and highly professional attorney Charlotte Immigration Law Firm is the place to go! Amaizing Law Firm and Professional Services!!!

Got over $$3,500 stolen from my attorney. He promise to take our case to sue a company and every time we asked for updates he will have an excuse. It’s been a year (12 months) and no work was done, we have ask for our money back and he was failed to provide an explanation on where the money is. He said he has to deduct his hours which no work was ever presented to us. In the whole year NOTHING was ever done. PLEASE BE CAREFUL! Update: Ms Andrew provided me with an invoice where he charged us $250 for just REVIEWING emails, this means he DID NOT REPLY, he did not do anything but received it. Emails that he decided to ignored, he wants us to sign an invoice for a check when he is not even acknowledging the $200 that Mr River promise to add to our fund. He is also charging us more than what we had agreed on. The agreement was that he was going to charged $250 for every HOUR Working on our case. He is charging us $250 for emails WE send asking about our case! EMAILS he decided to ignored. And unless he has a disability I can’t understand how long it took him to read my email. We got over $3,250 for him LOOKING at our emails. Please be careful because if that’s not stealing money idk what is. In the refund the wants to give us is only for $375 back and asking us to sign a disclosure saying “we are happy with his service and all charges are accurate” IF THATS NOT STEALING PEOPLES MONEY, I DONT KNOW WHAT IS! Funny you claimed we didn’t dispute the charges when we are asking you to send us the drafting work you claim you did. And NOTHING HAS BEEN PROVIDED. WE ARE DISPUTING ALL THOSE $3,250 that you did not work, you ignore emails. I dispute those charges as soon as you sent them.

Andrew was 45 minutes late to our first court appearance. I was sent multiple reminders from his firm to appear at the correct time, and I was getting more and more stressed when he did not show up. I called his office and they had no idea where he was and assured me that they would contact him and find out. Finally he showed up 45 minutes late. I did not get an apology or explanation for why he was late. Andrew was representing me in a tenant eviction where the tenant was living in my property without leaving for 6 months. This is the first time that I have ever gone through an eviction so I hired him. He was supposed to check the rent bonds each month so that we could remove the tenant any time they did not pay their bonds to the court. He failed to check the October rent bond because we were attempting to negotiate with the tenant. Instead he waited until November and then realized the tenant hadn't paid in October and we could have filed to remove her weeks earlier. This inaction lost me 1 month of income. He will probably reply here that he didn't check the bond because he was negotiating - but I fail to see why both tasks are mutually exclusive. I am literally paying for his time (retainer paid for his hourly rate so it's not like I asked him to do this for free), so why were the tasks I asked him to do not done? When I asked Andrew to acknowledge this mistake or provide me with a discount on his rate for the income that he lost me, he sent me the following reply, direct quote: "I have 100 other cases going on besides yours. The rent bond information is publicly available. So, it is also something that you could have checked just as easily." If he has 100 other cases and can't give my case the attention it needs, maybe he should take on less cases. And obviously if I was a legal expert and could have gone through this process on my own, I wouldn't have needed a lawyer in the first place. EDIT - He was absolutely 45 minutes late. To deny that would be an absolute lie. I sat in the court room by myself while the judge skipped over me and went to other cases, and she directly said that we can come back to mine when my council shows up. And I did bring this up to Andrew by asking him to state clearly (by email) exactly what time he would be at court for the next court appearance. As for why I said "Thank you" in emails??? and didn't call out the issues immediately it's because I was afraid that if I call out ineffective work during my case, that I would be retaliated against and the work wouldn't be performed at all. There's a reason I had to follow up over 100 times. You are also misrepresenting me here. I NEVER once asked why you didn't file the writ of possession while we were negotiating. I understand ethics very well. I only asked why you didn't VERIFY that the tenant paid her bond. Isn't the saying "knowledge is power"? When the tenant flaked from turning up to sign the negotiated paperwork, we should have been able to file the Writ of Possession Immediately. Or even immediately after our court date. Instead because you never checked this fact, we had to wait weeks!!

Service - 0 stars Quality of work - 0 stars Any type of case resolution - 0 stars A waste of my entire fee that was paid. Mr. Gordon - It seems all your time trying to prove to my cc company that you did the work I paid for was most of the work you did, because that's more work than I ever saw for myself.... Which is what I told them, and the reason it was in your favor was because one of the deadlines of my cc company to reply to your response expired and I was not aware. As I explained to them, all the paperwork you showed them were never provided to me, and the reason I asked for a refund in the first place was due to your lack of communication, professionalism, and any type of quality of work (or lack thereof). It's the only logical explanation in the first place, since I have paid money for services which I have never received, and I have no resolution of the case you were hired to perform. Presumably, if it took you “several hours” to refute my claim, you didn’t start out with enough evidence to disprove it in the first place. And my “audacity” comes from being the fact that I am the one that ended up wasting every penny I gave you, with nothing to show for it. I think that you are the audacious one, to think that I am not deserving of any refund, because you had to spend time to manufacture evidence of your work you did for me. Edit to respond to your edit: I'm responding so that we stick to the facts as opposed to manufacturing hyperbole and you misrepresenting what happened, and taking no responsibility for your actions as a professional. To reiterate, I lost the chargeback because, as the bank told me multiple times, we went past the deadline required by the bank to respond. In addition you showed the bank "evidence" of work you had done for the case, which I had never seen before, and could have easily been manufactured after the fact. And to keep facts straight again, I never disputed the fee charged for the consultation, only the fees for the case, which was never performed. Way back I asked for a refund from you when there wasn't even any work performed yet, and you offered me a very small fraction of my fee. It was then that I realized you were not going to be reasonable and I initiated the chargeback. Throughout the time of the case I had to continuously do my own legwork for the case and emails to you went unanswered for days at a time. I was also extremely dissatisfied with your attention to my case, and knowledge of procedure, which is another reason I asked for a refund. I had to hire different representation for my case due to your lack of attention and resolution. I find it interesting in all of your responses you never claim to have represented me or found any resolution in my case. I think if you had finished the case, and then I initiated a chargeback, that would be a scam, not me trying to get some money back before the case was started because I was dissatisfied with your service. You offered me approximately a 25% refund of my original fees, which was before anything was even started for the case. If I had been represented to my satisfaction, or you recovered any damages in my case, I would have not asked for anything back, obviously. In this case the scam seems to be accepting my total fee with no resolution or progress to my case, and I find it preposterous that you expect you should be compensated for time responding to my dispute, when I was dissatisfied with my service in the first place. Also I think we should leave anyone accepting credit card payments from me out of the equation, since you have zero knowledge of the subject. I hope my fee is worth it to you, since you seem to have a business practice of accepting funds for work not done, which seems like more of a scam to me. Merry Christmas

DeCurtins law office is the best defense law firm in charlotte, NC if you ask me. When I spoke with Mr. Brandon DeCurtin about my case he was professional, respectful and compassionate. He is also straight forward with you at all time which is a good thing only if you are being honest with him don’t lie to him because he wouldn't lie to you, he truly cares. most attorneys would charge you just to have a conversation, but not deCurtain law. Also I had no ride to get court but Brandon was willing to give me one. It is not an attorneys responsibility to give you carpool but due to certain circumstances and distance to a resolutions He will go out his way and help you.! Thank you Decurtin law for everything that you did.

I heard about this law office from a friend who had similar immigration issues as mine and he spoke very highly about them especially Mr Douglas. Prior to working with them, I had tried other immigration law firms who not only took my money but did not deliver. First Mr Douglas relates with clients in a very humane and compassionate manner. Second both him and other staff members are very polite and always available to respond to questions and concerns. From speaking with him you can tell that he is a very brilliant lawyer. I can safely and honestly say this law firm was a heaven sent. Although quite pricey but they are worth every penny paid. I highly recommend. Thank you very much Mr Douglas and team for a positive outcome in my immigration journey.

I’m a social worker and speak with lots of people on a daily basis. He is very knowledgeable and I look forward to having him represent me in my matter against my employer. He is a caring attorney and knows when he has a claim and that is what you want. He picked out all elements of the claim and knew which he can tackle with confidence. With that being said, I know that there is no promise that a claim can 100% be achieved and he is upfront about that which is apart of their ethical responsibilities and speaks volume on his character. Thank You, Mr. Littlejohn

What an Immigration Lawyer Can Do for You

An immigration lawyer specializes in helping individuals, families, and businesses navigate the complex immigration process. These lawyers provide legal guidance on various immigration matters, such as obtaining visas, gaining permanent residency (green cards), applying for citizenship, and defending clients in deportation or removal proceedings. Immigration lawyers also assist with employment-based immigration, asylum applications, and resolving issues related to visas or immigration status.

Whether you're trying to immigrate to the U.S., facing deportation, or sponsoring an employee or family member for a visa, an immigration lawyer can help you understand your legal options and navigate the often complicated legal system.

When Should I Hire an Immigration Lawyer?

Hiring an immigration lawyer is beneficial in many situations where you are dealing with U.S. immigration laws, whether for personal or business reasons. Common reasons to hire an immigration lawyer include:

  • Visa applications: If you need assistance applying for a visa, whether it's a work visa (H-1B), student visa (F-1), or tourist visa (B-1/B-2), a lawyer can help ensure the application is properly completed and submitted.
  • Green card applications: If you're seeking permanent residency, an immigration lawyer can guide you through the process, whether through family sponsorship, employment, or the Diversity Visa (lottery) program.
  • Deportation or removal defense: If you’re facing deportation or removal from the U.S., a lawyer can defend your case in immigration court and seek to prevent removal.
  • Asylum applications: If you’re seeking asylum due to persecution or fear of persecution in your home country, a lawyer can help you prepare a strong case and file for asylum.
  • Family reunification: If you're a U.S. citizen or permanent resident looking to bring family members to the U.S., a lawyer can assist with the family sponsorship process.
  • Citizenship and naturalization: If you're ready to apply for U.S. citizenship, a lawyer can help you navigate the naturalization process and ensure you meet all the requirements.
  • Business immigration: If you're an employer seeking to hire foreign workers, a lawyer can assist with employment-based visas, labor certification, and compliance with immigration regulations.
  • Special immigration categories: Immigration lawyers also handle complex cases, such as visas for victims of human trafficking (T visa), crime victims (U visa), or those seeking Temporary Protected Status (TPS).

Hiring an immigration lawyer early in the process can help you avoid delays, errors, and possible denials due to incomplete or incorrect applications.

What Does an Immigration Lawyer Do?

An immigration lawyer provides a wide range of services to help clients with their immigration needs, whether personal or business-related. Their tasks often include:

  • Assisting with visa applications: Helping clients fill out and submit visa applications, ensuring all documentation is complete and accurate.
  • Filing for green cards and permanent residency: Guiding clients through the process of applying for a green card, including family-based, employment-based, or other forms of residency.
  • Defending against deportation or removal: Representing clients in immigration court who are facing deportation and working to prevent removal from the U.S.
  • Preparing asylum cases: Assisting clients in applying for asylum based on fear of persecution in their home country due to race, religion, nationality, political opinion, or membership in a particular social group.
  • Handling citizenship applications: Helping lawful permanent residents apply for naturalization and ensuring they meet all the legal requirements for U.S. citizenship.
  • Employment-based immigration: Assisting employers with the process of sponsoring foreign workers for temporary or permanent visas, including H-1B, L-1, and EB-1 through EB-5 visas.
  • Representation in immigration interviews: Preparing clients for immigration interviews and attending interviews at U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) offices.
  • Appealing denied applications: If a visa, green card, or citizenship application is denied, a lawyer can file appeals or motions to reopen or reconsider the case.

How Are Immigration Lawyers Paid?

Immigration lawyers generally charge for their services based on the type of immigration case and the complexity of the legal work involved. Common payment structures include:

  • Flat fee: Many immigration lawyers charge a flat fee for specific services, such as preparing a visa application, green card petition, or citizenship application. Flat fees help clients know upfront what the legal costs will be for a particular service.
  • Hourly rate: For more complex cases, such as deportation defense or appeals, some lawyers charge by the hour. Hourly rates vary depending on the lawyer's experience and the complexity of the case.
  • Retainer: For ongoing immigration matters, some clients may need to pay a retainer, which is an upfront payment billed against as the lawyer works on the case.
  • Pro bono or sliding scale: Some immigration lawyers or nonprofit organizations may offer free or low-cost services for clients with limited financial means, particularly in asylum or humanitarian cases.

It’s essential to discuss the fee structure with your lawyer during the initial consultation to understand the costs and payment arrangements.

How Much Does an Immigration Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring an immigration lawyer varies based on the type of legal service required, the lawyer's experience, and the complexity of the case. General cost estimates include:

  • Visa applications: For help with visa applications (e.g., H-1B, L-1, F-1), legal fees may range from $2,000 to $7,500, depending on the complexity and the type of visa.
  • Green card applications: Fees for family-based or employment-based green card applications typically range from $3,000 to $10,000, depending on the case.
  • Deportation defense: For defending clients in removal proceedings, costs can range from $5,000 to $15,000 or more, depending on the complexity of the case and how long the case takes.
  • Asylum cases: Asylum applications may range from $2,000 to $10,000, depending on whether the case is defensive (in removal proceedings) or affirmative (not in removal proceedings).
  • Citizenship applications: Legal fees for filing a naturalization application usually range from $1,500 to $5,000, depending on the complexity of the client’s immigration history.
  • Business immigration services: Fees for assisting businesses with employment-based visas (such as H-1B or EB-5 visas) often range from $3,000 to $10,000 or more.

Always ask for a clear breakdown of costs and fee arrangements before proceeding with legal services.

Top Questions to Ask an Immigration Lawyer

Before hiring an immigration lawyer, it's essential to ask questions to ensure they have the experience and expertise to handle your case effectively. Important questions to ask include:

  1. What experience do you have with immigration cases like mine?
Ensure the lawyer has experience handling cases similar to yours, whether it’s family-based immigration, employment visas, or asylum.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer charges a flat fee, hourly rate, or retainer, and ask for a detailed estimate of the total cost.
  3. What is the likelihood of success in my case?
Ask for an honest assessment of your case and the potential outcomes, including any challenges you might face.
  4. How long will the process take?
Immigration cases can take time, so ask how long it may take to process your application or resolve your legal issue.
  5. Will you handle my case personally?
In larger firms, junior attorneys or paralegals may handle parts of your case. Make sure you know who will be working on your case directly.
  6. What documents do I need to provide?
Ask the lawyer about the documentation required to support your case, such as birth certificates, marriage certificates, or employment contracts.

How to Check the Credibility of an Immigration Lawyer

To ensure you are hiring a reputable immigration lawyer, take the following steps to verify their credentials and track record:

  • Check their state bar status: Confirm with your state bar association that the lawyer is licensed to practice and has no disciplinary actions against them.
  • Look for specific immigration law experience: Review the lawyer’s website or professional profile to ensure they specialize in immigration law and have experience handling cases like yours.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for reviews on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to see what previous clients have said about the lawyer’s professionalism and success rate.
  • Ask for references: A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their ability to handle immigration cases.
  • Check for industry affiliations: Membership in organizations like the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) can indicate the lawyer’s expertise and commitment to immigration law.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most out of your first consultation with an immigration lawyer, it’s important to come prepared with relevant documents and information. Here’s what you should bring:

  • Passport and immigration documents: Bring your passport, visa, and any documents related to your current immigration status.
  • Family documents: If you're applying for a family-based visa or green card, bring marriage certificates, birth certificates, and proof of family relationships.
  • Employment information: For employment-based visas, provide your employment contract, offer letter, or other documentation of your job.
  • Criminal records (if applicable): If you have any criminal history, bring copies of court records and other relevant documents.
  • Timeline of events: Provide a clear timeline of any prior immigration applications, visas, or issues with immigration authorities.
  • List of questions: Prepare any questions you have about your immigration case, the process, costs, and the likelihood of success.

By preparing thoroughly for your consultation, you can help the lawyer understand your case more effectively and get the best possible legal advice on how to proceed.
