Outstanding attorney! I wholeheartedly recommend. As someone prone to nervousness, especially in challenging situations, my anxiety can be overwhelming. Mark skillfully put me at ease, providing a sense of safety. He outlined the best/worst-case scenario, kept me updated at every stage, and ultimately achieved the most favorable outcome for me. Just an added bonus, he’s a genuinely nice person as well. So kick a^^ attorney and person!

I had my first experience with Mr.Mathews when he was hired by a firm that I hired to represent my husband in a criminal case. My husband and myself spoke to him one time in a 6 to 8 week period. He was very judgmental toward my husband because of his appearance. I tried reaching out to him for about a month with no response. He is extremely unprofessional and full of himself and gives off a very entitled attitude. Please do yourself a favor a do not hire him.

All talk. Cheap talk. Big talk of action and no results to show for it. She talks a good game, but she’s very unprofessional. Terrible at following. Becomes way too emotionally invested to the point where it affects her ability to make a sound closing argument. Stumbles on her words a lot. Makes everyone in the courtroom uncomfortable with tone and overbearing behavior. Zero stars. Wouldn’t recommend and sorry that I wasted my money just to get a bad outcome

Attorney Boykin was recommended to me by a very good friend of mine. I originally hired a lawyer who I eventually fired because they were extremely unprofessional and costly. Attorney Boykin and her team were very responsive from the initial consultation. I knew after the consultation I was going to hire her. She was knowledgeable about my particular case, patient and fair!! I got the results I wanted and it’s all because of her. I can’t thank her enough for all her help. Would highly recommend her and will certainly use her again if I need to. She really was a breath of fresh air. I trusted her completely with my case.

When I first meet Mr. Budesheim, I was exhausted, extremely disappointed and devastated by circumstances around my private life; my Employment Authorization Card had expired and besides, I received notification for my deportation from US, due the absence of real reasons, why should I live in this country? Mr. Budesheim listened me carefully and attentively, then he smiled to me so friendly and warmly that all my fear and frustration almost disappeared. “We are here, to protect the people, like you”-he said, and I believed, he is able help me. Mr. Budesheim and his team had working scrupulously and meticulously within all period of time for my defense against deportation and then, for my application of permanent residency and my application for Naturalization of citizenship, solving them step by step. Today, I am glad that I overcame to all my problems, by support and care of Mr. Budesheim and his team. I think, I need to share my history with all those, who has a problem, with immigration. I can say to all of them; nothing is impossible, for Mr. Budesheim, with his high professionalism and dedication for his clients, he will be always a winner, and consequently, together, with all those, who need support & protection.

My case was relatively simple, but I had two bumps due to inadequate handling of the case by this attorney. First, there was an error in the form submission,. RFE was issued, but attorney still sent the copy of the same erroneous reply that generated the RFE in the first place. I had to draft my own reply to RFE and send to USCIS via certified mail, apologizing for the error of my attorney! This had considerably delayed the case processing. Later on , when interview notice came, Thomas said he would charge $500 extra to attend it. I wasn't prepared for it and decided to think it over. Two weeks before the interview I came to his office with the $500 draft of the check to ask him to attend the interview. Here is Thomas' reply: "No, I can't, I already have another client booked that day". During the interview the young officer made an error and changed my answer by mistake. If my attorney was present this would have been prevented. Instead, my case went on and stayed on pending status for another two months. Only after contacting the office of Johnson and Johnson immigration law firm did I receive a high quality and efficient legal assistance. Three weeks after the direct intervention of an experienced and knowledgeable attorney who sent a notice of appearance my case was promptly adjudicated and I received an approval notice in mail. If you need an immigration attorney try to browse the search section and look for ones who have high ratings/reputation or ask for personal references. Do not make the same mistake I made by randomly selecting an attorney based on first impressions of nice conversation on the phone. In my opinion This individual is not qualified to practice law and should never be allowed to represent clients on immigration matters. I am lucky, my case was simple and despite unnecessary delays it was approved in the end. I can't imagine what would anyone have to go through if they had a complex case requiring an expertise of knowledgeable immigration attorney. You are better off going Pro Se than hiring services of Thomas Budesheim.

This was the employer's attorney that i proposed to work for. She is the worst lawyer i ever worked with on my immigration case. She makes u paranoid. Gives you wrong advises when u let her know what she told u was not accurate according to the other lawyers , she has no smart answer to give you, she only gives you mixture of the technical wording that u don t wanna listen to. talks and talks an hour. She was about to waste my 10 years legal status i invested in so much, in 2 months. In the end she made the employer spent over $5000 and did not get an approval to my visa. I did not only lose the job opportunity . I was paranoid, stressed out and broke. After her sloppy unsuccessful work she tried to sell me some other options to get paid more and blamed the government for her lack of knowledge on the case. She is not a lawyer just a good sales person. She sells herself very well hour an hour. Do not get trapped. There are good lawyers out there.

My family and I hired Mr. Kabik while he worked at the Shulman Rogers firm. He told us he did $10,000 worth of work (time and supposedly submitting forms). Then we agreed in writing to follow him when he left the firm. We were then unable to get any response from him until we called the Maryland Bar Association to make sure we had the correct contact information. They got in contact with him and he then contacted us within one day. He contacted us via WhatsApp, exchanged a few messages that did not address our concerns and we have never heard back from him again. We then had the idea to call the Immigration office in Washington DC to ask them where Mr. Kabik had left off in the process so that we could continue on our own. They have NOTHING on their records from Mr. Kabik. I’m not sure what he did with our $10,000 but I hope he knows how badly he hurt my family. We struggle financially and could have used that money to feed and house our family. My hope is that this review will save other families from experiencing this with Mr. Kabik.

unexperienced staff If you don't speak Spanish, they treat you like sh.t Staff never pick up phone Once they manage to pick up do not expect to have near future date available for appointment If you are already with this law firm and you have appointment with either USCIS or immigration court, please do yourself a favor to keep checking the website for a change. I had a horrific experience with them when immigration court rescheduled me for a master hearing. the notice was sent to my former address because the law firm did not submit the change of address. i only knew the new hearing date because i went to consult another attorney for his services. i booked appointment to meet Mr. Richey, they set my date for Friday in one month time. Thursday day before my appointment, i receive a call from the front desk that Mr. Richey is not going to be in the office tomorrow that if i want to see him i have to be in the office that day at 2 pm meanwhile they were calling me around 11 am. then i asked what if i can't make it at 2 pm what is the next available time to meet then the person told me a month and half i was like forget it. i must confess it was not a pleasant conversation because they one who called me was RUDE. i gave one star just because of Mr. Richey himself the few occasions i met with him he seems knowledgeable to me with a great heart. the reality is that no matter how good the head may be if the other members are not good it will slow you down or even hinder you get to your destination

Employer paid for the Premium Processing and they screwed up filing my H1B with premium processing. A common man like me, had more knowledge on the rules and dates of premium processing. Too much negativity and lack of confidence in filing cases. I never had an RFE during 6 filing and the attorney kept scaring me that I will get one. The decision came on time and my employer could save money on filing a visit visa, which was another money making stupid idea. Finally, my wife's H4 and EAD are pending since 5 months. The attorney screwed up with the address and now doesn't guide or help or even follows up on what is going on. He gives a random number to call, where it takes hours to get hold of them and then we are being told that the attorney should follow up on this. In my 6 filing of H1B, H4 visas, I never had to deal with such clumsiness. Once I submitted the documents, the law firm handles all, but not this one.

My husband was the victim of a vicious assault. State Attorney Shane Nolan was on top of my husband’s case and kept us informed throughout the process. Ms.Stephanie in the attorneys office followed up and reached out during this ordeal and at no point did I feel we weren’t a priority for them. While they take on an enormous amount of cases and I did have to follow up on some things, which we should also advocate and stay up to date on things and not let them take it all on , they did an incredible job and justice was served for my husband. I see some reviews that people didn’t get a phone call or an email. We never received anything in writing but again we the victims must advocate and do the work too, case search is free, the dockets are posted the day before and court dates can be found online, we can not expect the States Attorney’s office to be our personal assistant. Also for other victims please know you’re not alone the MD Crime Victims Resource Center was a great help as well in our case. The Anne Arundel County States Attorney’s Office did exceptional and we thank you!

The guy even thanks his daughter (states attorney which I don't have to name), for the verdict in his victim advocate speech. I acquired testimony. It's all there! What an Immigration Lawyer Can Do for You

An immigration lawyer specializes in helping individuals, families, and businesses navigate the complex immigration process. These lawyers provide legal guidance on various immigration matters, such as obtaining visas, gaining permanent residency (green cards), applying for citizenship, and defending clients in deportation or removal proceedings. Immigration lawyers also assist with employment-based immigration, asylum applications, and resolving issues related to visas or immigration status.

Whether you're trying to immigrate to the U.S., facing deportation, or sponsoring an employee or family member for a visa, an immigration lawyer can help you understand your legal options and navigate the often complicated legal system.

When Should I Hire an Immigration Lawyer?

Hiring an immigration lawyer is beneficial in many situations where you are dealing with U.S. immigration laws, whether for personal or business reasons. Common reasons to hire an immigration lawyer include:

  • Visa applications: If you need assistance applying for a visa, whether it's a work visa (H-1B), student visa (F-1), or tourist visa (B-1/B-2), a lawyer can help ensure the application is properly completed and submitted.
  • Green card applications: If you're seeking permanent residency, an immigration lawyer can guide you through the process, whether through family sponsorship, employment, or the Diversity Visa (lottery) program.
  • Deportation or removal defense: If you’re facing deportation or removal from the U.S., a lawyer can defend your case in immigration court and seek to prevent removal.
  • Asylum applications: If you’re seeking asylum due to persecution or fear of persecution in your home country, a lawyer can help you prepare a strong case and file for asylum.
  • Family reunification: If you're a U.S. citizen or permanent resident looking to bring family members to the U.S., a lawyer can assist with the family sponsorship process.
  • Citizenship and naturalization: If you're ready to apply for U.S. citizenship, a lawyer can help you navigate the naturalization process and ensure you meet all the requirements.
  • Business immigration: If you're an employer seeking to hire foreign workers, a lawyer can assist with employment-based visas, labor certification, and compliance with immigration regulations.
  • Special immigration categories: Immigration lawyers also handle complex cases, such as visas for victims of human trafficking (T visa), crime victims (U visa), or those seeking Temporary Protected Status (TPS).

Hiring an immigration lawyer early in the process can help you avoid delays, errors, and possible denials due to incomplete or incorrect applications.

What Does an Immigration Lawyer Do?

An immigration lawyer provides a wide range of services to help clients with their immigration needs, whether personal or business-related. Their tasks often include:

  • Assisting with visa applications: Helping clients fill out and submit visa applications, ensuring all documentation is complete and accurate.
  • Filing for green cards and permanent residency: Guiding clients through the process of applying for a green card, including family-based, employment-based, or other forms of residency.
  • Defending against deportation or removal: Representing clients in immigration court who are facing deportation and working to prevent removal from the U.S.
  • Preparing asylum cases: Assisting clients in applying for asylum based on fear of persecution in their home country due to race, religion, nationality, political opinion, or membership in a particular social group.
  • Handling citizenship applications: Helping lawful permanent residents apply for naturalization and ensuring they meet all the legal requirements for U.S. citizenship.
  • Employment-based immigration: Assisting employers with the process of sponsoring foreign workers for temporary or permanent visas, including H-1B, L-1, and EB-1 through EB-5 visas.
  • Representation in immigration interviews: Preparing clients for immigration interviews and attending interviews at U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) offices.
  • Appealing denied applications: If a visa, green card, or citizenship application is denied, a lawyer can file appeals or motions to reopen or reconsider the case.

How Are Immigration Lawyers Paid?

Immigration lawyers generally charge for their services based on the type of immigration case and the complexity of the legal work involved. Common payment structures include:

  • Flat fee: Many immigration lawyers charge a flat fee for specific services, such as preparing a visa application, green card petition, or citizenship application. Flat fees help clients know upfront what the legal costs will be for a particular service.
  • Hourly rate: For more complex cases, such as deportation defense or appeals, some lawyers charge by the hour. Hourly rates vary depending on the lawyer's experience and the complexity of the case.
  • Retainer: For ongoing immigration matters, some clients may need to pay a retainer, which is an upfront payment billed against as the lawyer works on the case.
  • Pro bono or sliding scale: Some immigration lawyers or nonprofit organizations may offer free or low-cost services for clients with limited financial means, particularly in asylum or humanitarian cases.

It’s essential to discuss the fee structure with your lawyer during the initial consultation to understand the costs and payment arrangements.

How Much Does an Immigration Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring an immigration lawyer varies based on the type of legal service required, the lawyer's experience, and the complexity of the case. General cost estimates include:

  • Green card applications: Fees for family-based or employment-based green card applications typically range from $3,000 to $10,000, depending on the case.
  • Deportation defense: For defending clients in removal proceedings, costs can range from $5,000 to $15,000 or more, depending on the complexity of the case and how long the case takes.
  • Asylum cases: Asylum applications may range from $2,000 to $10,000, depending on whether the case is defensive (in removal proceedings) or affirmative (not in removal proceedings).
  • Citizenship applications: Legal fees for filing a naturalization application usually range from $1,500 to $5,000, depending on the complexity of the client’s immigration history.
  • Business immigration services: Fees for assisting businesses with employment-based visas (such as H-1B or EB-5 visas) often range from $3,000 to $10,000 or more.

Always ask for a clear breakdown of costs and fee arrangements before proceeding with legal services.

Top Questions to Ask an Immigration Lawyer

Before hiring an immigration lawyer, it's essential to ask questions to ensure they have the experience and expertise to handle your case effectively. Important questions to ask include:

  1. What experience do you have with immigration cases like mine?
Ensure the lawyer has experience handling cases similar to yours, whether it’s family-based immigration, employment visas, or asylum.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer charges a flat fee, hourly rate, or retainer, and ask for a detailed estimate of the total cost.
  3. What is the likelihood of success in my case?
Ask for an honest assessment of your case and the potential outcomes, including any challenges you might face.
  4. How long will the process take?
Immigration cases can take time, so ask how long it may take to process your application or resolve your legal issue.
  5. Will you handle my case personally?
In larger firms, junior attorneys or paralegals may handle parts of your case. Make sure you know who will be working on your case directly.
  6. What documents do I need to provide?
Ask the lawyer about the documentation required to support your case, such as birth certificates, marriage certificates, or employment contracts.

How to Check the Credibility of an Immigration Lawyer

To ensure you are hiring a reputable immigration lawyer, take the following steps to verify their credentials and track record:

  • Check their state bar status: Confirm with your state bar association that the lawyer is licensed to practice and has no disciplinary actions against them.
  • Look for specific immigration law experience: Review the lawyer’s website or professional profile to ensure they specialize in immigration law and have experience handling cases like yours.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for reviews on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to see what previous clients have said about the lawyer’s professionalism and success rate.
  • Ask for references: A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their ability to handle immigration cases.
  • Check for industry affiliations: Membership in organizations like the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) can indicate the lawyer’s expertise and commitment to immigration law.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most out of your first consultation with an immigration lawyer, it’s important to come prepared with relevant documents and information. Here’s what you should bring:

  • Passport and immigration documents: Bring your passport, visa, and any documents related to your current immigration status.
  • Family documents: If you're applying for a family-based visa or green card, bring marriage certificates, birth certificates, and proof of family relationships.
  • Employment information: For employment-based visas, provide your employment contract, offer letter, or other documentation of your job.
  • Criminal records (if applicable): If you have any criminal history, bring copies of court records and other relevant documents.
  • Timeline of events: Provide a clear timeline of any prior immigration applications, visas, or issues with immigration authorities.
  • List of questions: Prepare any questions you have about your immigration case, the process, costs, and the likelihood of success.
