I had the pleasure of working with Mr Badawi and I cannot recommend him highly enough. From the very beginning, he was incredibly professional, attentive, and thorough in his approach to my case. His communication was always prompt, clear, and he took the time to explain every detail and legal option available. In my case he saved me from a serious problem. Mr Babawi demonstrated a deep understanding of the law and provided invaluable guidance that resulted in a favorable outcome. I always felt confident that I was in good hands. Following a very intense case of domestic violence, I made an attempt to use a “free” local Immigration legal service and it was a nightmare. Ms. Gardiner stepped in and saved my case and my life. She is kind, sympathetic, knowledgeable and entirely dedicated. She walked me through the entire process, completely reassured me when I was in an extremely anxious state of mind and was always available to speak with me directly. I felt safe with her handling my situation and 100% confident in her abilities. She handled everything in a timely, organized and knowledgeable manner. I would recommend her to anyone and consider her a friend as well as my attorney. She has my complete trust and respect. With her help, I am now living a beautiful life with a successful career and my fears have been eliminated. She is an incredible representation of what an attorney should be. Thank you so much!!!

One of my friend strongly recommended Gardiner Immigration for our immigration needs. Mrs. Gardiner was kind enough to take time out of her busy schedule to meet us and discuss our case. We had never worked with any attorney before and Mrs. Gardiner and her team were very helpful throughout the process in guiding us at every step and helping us with the proceedings. Mrs. Gardiner and her team are very knowledgeable with the laws, were always available to answer our queries and help us get a positive outcome. Should there be a need, we would definitely work with Gardiner Immigration again. Thank you Mrs. Gardiner.

Thank you for making the difficult process of applying for legal citizenship status much more seamless than we could have imagined. When we were in a difficult situation needing help adjusting my legal status (foreign citizen) after getting married, he helped us navigate the complex government paperwork. He provided us with several estimates as far as timelines and when to expect to hear back, all of which were correct. Though we only had one formal appointment, he was always very responsive via email throughout the year we were waiting to hear back from the government, and even offered to meet with us to prepare before our interview. Responsive, professional, down to earth, thanks again for your help!

I highly recommend Mr.Lemus. He was able to get my I-601a Hardship Waiver approved, which enabled my wife to stay in this country during her immigration process for her to become a permanent resident. Arno also helped us bring over my wife's son from her home country. Arno is also very professional, honest, and was there for us every step of the way. We will both always be very grateful to him and his assistant, Lilian.

In his introductory meeting and in his welcome letter we were told, that “the real essence of lawyering is that of caring”. This might be true for layers who really care – and there are many, however, I personally had not the feeling that this is true for Mr. Zeller. We were told and have it in written that his firm would answer calls on a timely base. Fact is that you should be happy if you receive an answer at all. But be cautious with those answers. We were told by his Associate that we can still travel to the US by our previous Visa Waiver if our E2-Visa would get denied. As this sounded funky we tried to reach Mr. Zeller over the phone but could never reach him. We then asked his Associate for a written confirmation. After receiving the confirmation email, we booked a flight to the US. Guess what – your Visa Waiver is no longer valid once an E2-Visa has been denied. So, another $1400 down the drain. After proofing Mr. Zeller’s statement wrong, we were told by Mr. Zeller that he never gave that statement and his Associate simply made it up. However, asking Mr. Zeller for our loss of $1400 based on his Associate’s lie, we were told, that although this statement was definitely made by HIS employee, he (Mr. Zeller) does not feel like this would be his problem. After arguing back and forth he finally agreed to refund $1000 as a “courtesy”. A lawyer with a true work ethic would have apologized a thousand times and refund the full loss.

We hired Christian Zeller of Maney/Gordon/Zeller in September 2017. During the preliminary consultation we were told that even though it would be a somewhat difficult case, we had a chance for success using waivers available to erase the violations to immigration law. After waiting almost 7 months for the results of the FOIA request we filed, we were told that our case had no chance for success, and we had exhausted all paths to a possible solution. We were very disappointed and frustrated with the change of attitude regarding the analysis and conclusions derived from the FOIA, especially since were were lead to believe something else. During the 7 months of waiting, I sent periodic e mails to Mr. Zeller which he did not answer, except one which he did respond to. Since I live out of the country, I had to make expensive phone calls to provoke a response from any of the staff. I was completely exacerbated with the lack of attention we received from Mr. Zeller, especially since we paid a very high fee for the services we received. I recall the promise that Mr. Zeller made in his letter in which he accepted our case and promised to respond within 24 hours to any inquiry we had. My feelings regarding the handling of our case is that it was very low priority for the firm, and the chance of success was very slim and would require too much time and effort to produce any favourable results. To this day, we have not received a satisfactory explanation as to why we were given conflicting reasons regarding the chances for success.

I contacted Mr Getzin to take care of my divorce, I got him all the information that he requested and the payment, everything was fine on the first 7 or 8 months, but then things just stop moving, I will contact him and he will apologice and justify the fact that he was busy and other things, he say that will contact the judge and arrange the court day and prepare this paper or this other paper and that he will let me know later and update me on the case, finally I ask for copies of the documentation that he send to court and everything so I can consult another lawyer because he was taking too long, he give me nothing and told me that he could not continue with my case and that he was going to tell a "friend" to take care of it, my case was dismissed by the judge because he as my legal representation stopped doing his job, wasted 2 years time, money and stress...

My fiance and I rented a place from a local property management company. We had some concerns while we rented but we did not expect what would happen when we moved out. The company attempted to charge us an insane amount of money and threatened to take us to court even though we satisfied the terms of our agreement upon vacating the property. We felt vulnerable and just stuck; we'd never encountered an issue like this. We immediately reached out to Mr. Getzin and were extremely satisfied with our decision. He educated us every step of the process, we felt empowered and ultimately came to an agreeable resolution. Thank you for your assistance!

This office is absolutely here for your money. If you are not in deportation status you are put on the back burner. I cannot tell you how many times I had to call and get the ball rolling because we were forgotten. The communication skills are lacking. If you call and leave a message you expect a call, text or email back within a week. Many times there was NO response and I would have to call and remind them what we were waiting on. Bassey was never at any of our hearings because my husband was not a deportation risk. He would send a substitute. He also never read the file before we had an appointment. He assumed our case was one way, when in fact it was not. Then we would have to remind him what stage of the process we were in. They also wanted to close our case and start over when we were to the final stages of my husband getting his green card, so that they could charge us another retainer fee for a new case. If they know you can pay, they will milk you. They make you come into the office for senseless things. They had my husband take off of work and we met there and had an appointment at 3 and they were late and come to find out I literally just needed to sign ONE LINE on paperwork. They had stated the day before that we were to meet with the attorney and that never happened that day. I could have went by myself and my husband didn't have to take off of work. They make a big deal out of little things. They want you to run and jump thru hoops and then THEY do not follow up. It took us 7 years for my husband to get his green card with them. Granted there was Covid shutdown in the middle but after the courts opened back up they drug their feet to get the case in front of a judge again. I am sure that they take advantage of a very vulnerable population. Their clients are at their mercy and they are fully taking advantage of those people and their situations. Please take your business elsewhere, where the attorneys and staff truly care about helping you get what you need done and not draining funds.

Bassey Immigration Law center was recommended to me by a friend who is a former client of Attorney Bassey. He was so satisfied with the services they provided for him that he assured me i will get the same satisfaction. Bassey immigration law center in my opinion is the best immigration law firm in the United States. They showed me that they were not interested in the money but rather in performing a humanitarian service. They kept me informed at every step of the process, and they have very excellent customer service from the receptionist, to their Paralegals to the Attorney. They are always available to answer all my questions. I had some difficulties with the finances and they were very understandable and flexible. They showed me they were more interested in making sure that my rights were protected than they money they were going to receive from their services. They have the fairest and most moderate of legal fees for the kind of satisfaction they provide from their services. I have friends who have spent over $10,000 dollars in legal fees to other law firms for immigration related purposes and still have not being able to get their immigration related relief/benefits, Bassey Immigration law firm charged me a small fraction of that amount and i have received my immigration benefits with full satisfaction from the process they undertook. Choose Bassey Immigration law firm and i can guarantee you that you that you will be satisfied and you will receive your immigration benefits. They are really humanitarian and will fight for you till you are satisfied and have received your immigration benefits.

What an Immigration Lawyer Can Do for You

An immigration lawyer specializes in helping individuals, families, and businesses navigate the complex immigration process. These lawyers provide legal guidance on various immigration matters, such as obtaining visas, gaining permanent residency (green cards), applying for citizenship, and defending clients in deportation or removal proceedings. Immigration lawyers also assist with employment-based immigration, asylum applications, and resolving issues related to visas or immigration status.

Whether you're trying to immigrate to the U.S., facing deportation, or sponsoring an employee or family member for a visa, an immigration lawyer can help you understand your legal options and navigate the often complicated legal system.

When Should I Hire an Immigration Lawyer?

Hiring an immigration lawyer is beneficial in many situations where you are dealing with U.S. immigration laws, whether for personal or business reasons. Common reasons to hire an immigration lawyer include:

  • Visa applications: If you need assistance applying for a visa, whether it's a work visa (H-1B), student visa (F-1), or tourist visa (B-1/B-2), a lawyer can help ensure the application is properly completed and submitted.
  • Green card applications: If you're seeking permanent residency, an immigration lawyer can guide you through the process, whether through family sponsorship, employment, or the Diversity Visa (lottery) program.
  • Deportation or removal defense: If you’re facing deportation or removal from the U.S., a lawyer can defend your case in immigration court and seek to prevent removal.
  • Asylum applications: If you’re seeking asylum due to persecution or fear of persecution in your home country, a lawyer can help you prepare a strong case and file for asylum.
  • Family reunification: If you're a U.S. citizen or permanent resident looking to bring family members to the U.S., a lawyer can assist with the family sponsorship process.
  • Citizenship and naturalization: If you're ready to apply for U.S. citizenship, a lawyer can help you navigate the naturalization process and ensure you meet all the requirements.
  • Business immigration: If you're an employer seeking to hire foreign workers, a lawyer can assist with employment-based visas, labor certification, and compliance with immigration regulations.
  • Special immigration categories: Immigration lawyers also handle complex cases, such as visas for victims of human trafficking (T visa), crime victims (U visa), or those seeking Temporary Protected Status (TPS).

Hiring an immigration lawyer early in the process can help you avoid delays, errors, and possible denials due to incomplete or incorrect applications.

What Does an Immigration Lawyer Do?

An immigration lawyer provides a wide range of services to help clients with their immigration needs, whether personal or business-related. Their tasks often include:

  • Assisting with visa applications: Helping clients fill out and submit visa applications, ensuring all documentation is complete and accurate.
  • Filing for green cards and permanent residency: Guiding clients through the process of applying for a green card, including family-based, employment-based, or other forms of residency.
  • Defending against deportation or removal: Representing clients in immigration court who are facing deportation and working to prevent removal from the U.S.
  • Preparing asylum cases: Assisting clients in applying for asylum based on fear of persecution in their home country due to race, religion, nationality, political opinion, or membership in a particular social group.
  • Handling citizenship applications: Helping lawful permanent residents apply for naturalization and ensuring they meet all the legal requirements for U.S. citizenship.
  • Employment-based immigration: Assisting employers with the process of sponsoring foreign workers for temporary or permanent visas, including H-1B, L-1, and EB-1 through EB-5 visas.
  • Representation in immigration interviews: Preparing clients for immigration interviews and attending interviews at U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) offices.
  • Appealing denied applications: If a visa, green card, or citizenship application is denied, a lawyer can file appeals or motions to reopen or reconsider the case.

How Are Immigration Lawyers Paid?

Immigration lawyers generally charge for their services based on the type of immigration case and the complexity of the legal work involved. Common payment structures include:

  • Flat fee: Many immigration lawyers charge a flat fee for specific services, such as preparing a visa application, green card petition, or citizenship application. Flat fees help clients know upfront what the legal costs will be for a particular service.
  • Hourly rate: For more complex cases, such as deportation defense or appeals, some lawyers charge by the hour. Hourly rates vary depending on the lawyer's experience and the complexity of the case.
  • Retainer: For ongoing immigration matters, some clients may need to pay a retainer, which is an upfront payment billed against as the lawyer works on the case.
  • Pro bono or sliding scale: Some immigration lawyers or nonprofit organizations may offer free or low-cost services for clients with limited financial means, particularly in asylum or humanitarian cases.

It’s essential to discuss the fee structure with your lawyer during the initial consultation to understand the costs and payment arrangements.

How Much Does an Immigration Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring an immigration lawyer varies based on the type of legal service required, the lawyer's experience, and the complexity of the case. General cost estimates include:

  • Visa applications: For help with visa applications (e.g., H-1B, L-1, F-1), legal fees may range from $2,000 to $7,500, depending on the complexity and the type of visa.
  • Green card applications: Fees for family-based or employment-based green card applications typically range from $3,000 to $10,000, depending on the case.
  • Deportation defense: For defending clients in removal proceedings, costs can range from $5,000 to $15,000 or more, depending on the complexity of the case and how long the case takes.
  • Asylum cases: Asylum applications may range from $2,000 to $10,000, depending on whether the case is defensive (in removal proceedings) or affirmative (not in removal proceedings).
  • Citizenship applications: Legal fees for filing a naturalization application usually range from $1,500 to $5,000, depending on the complexity of the client’s immigration history.
  • Business immigration services: Fees for assisting businesses with employment-based visas (such as H-1B or EB-5 visas) often range from $3,000 to $10,000 or more.

Always ask for a clear breakdown of costs and fee arrangements before proceeding with legal services.

Top Questions to Ask an Immigration Lawyer

Before hiring an immigration lawyer, it's essential to ask questions to ensure they have the experience and expertise to handle your case effectively. Important questions to ask include:

  1. What experience do you have with immigration cases like mine?
Ensure the lawyer has experience handling cases similar to yours, whether it’s family-based immigration, employment visas, or asylum.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer charges a flat fee, hourly rate, or retainer, and ask for a detailed estimate of the total cost.
  3. What is the likelihood of success in my case?
Ask for an honest assessment of your case and the potential outcomes, including any challenges you might face.
  4. How long will the process take?
Immigration cases can take time, so ask how long it may take to process your application or resolve your legal issue.
  5. Will you handle my case personally?
In larger firms, junior attorneys or paralegals may handle parts of your case. Make sure you know who will be working on your case directly.
  6. What documents do I need to provide?
Ask the lawyer about the documentation required to support your case, such as birth certificates, marriage certificates, or employment contracts.

How to Check the Credibility of an Immigration Lawyer

To ensure you are hiring a reputable immigration lawyer, take the following steps to verify their credentials and track record:

  • Check their state bar status: Confirm with your state bar association that the lawyer is licensed to practice and has no disciplinary actions against them.
  • Look for specific immigration law experience: Review the lawyer’s website or professional profile to ensure they specialize in immigration law and have experience handling cases like yours.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for reviews on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to see what previous clients have said about the lawyer’s professionalism and success rate.
  • Ask for references: A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their ability to handle immigration cases.
  • Check for industry affiliations: Membership in organizations like the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) can indicate the lawyer’s expertise and commitment to immigration law.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most out of your first consultation with an immigration lawyer, it’s important to come prepared with relevant documents and information. Here’s what you should bring:

  • Passport and immigration documents: Bring your passport, visa, and any documents related to your current immigration status.
  • Family documents: If you're applying for a family-based visa or green card, bring marriage certificates, birth certificates, and proof of family relationships.
  • Employment information: For employment-based visas, provide your employment contract, offer letter, or other documentation of your job.
  • Criminal records (if applicable): If you have any criminal history, bring copies of court records and other relevant documents.
