Worst law practitioner ever. Their assistant. Tania Rodriguez is very unprofessional and very rude. She doesn't even listen to what is being told and nod without listening to you. She also interrupts you and asks you to leave premises if you wanna talk to your attorney. They don't even provide a room to talk privately. Never going there again. Not recommended at all!

Highered a lawyer from this firm to help me through the patent process and make sure I am doing everything the legal and right way. Paid the retainer that was requested, and then nothing. Can't get a call through or an email back for way too many months. This company doesn't seem to care about the common man. Or at least the Lawyer I got didn't. Don't risk your money here is my advice.

Akula & Associates: "Thank you for all your help and patience in my H1B. You made a difficult time a little easier and less stressful, which i greatly appreciate." Ambreen was very helpful in our immigration process and her efforts and work helped us to achieve our most important goal, which is a future for ourselves and our child in the United States. It was a great experience to work with such a professional. We always felt that she was reachable either by e-mail or by phone. We were very impressed of her way of doing business and how she tracked and controlled every issue such that our immigration process went well. She was very responsive, constantly reviewing and checking for the documents needed to carry on the process. They handle the legal process in a professional way, and the treat is friendly with the clients, which make it easier for us the clients and enjoyable. Always follow ups with all the steps throughout the process and kept me informed of the outcomes and further documents needed for next steps, which make me stay one step ahead of the process to help ensure the desired outcome. Really glad to have her and Akula associates as my attorney in our successful visa applications.” We look forward to work with her again for our future legal needs.”

In early April 2021, my H1B lottery was selected and Mr. Kevin's firm, FisherBroyles, was consigned by my company to handle my case, meaning applying for the H1B visa for me. I was told by Andrea Reyes, the Legal Assistant to Kevin Lashus then, that if anything was missing or incorrect in my materials, they would contact me. The notice mentioned clearly that my H-1B petition should be filed between 04/01/2021 and 06/30/2021. My company and I have not heard anything from them. Then I started to follow up on 07/27/2021. Since then, I had sent 5 emails, and my HR had sent 4 emails until we finally heard from Mr. Kevin on 10/29/2021. He wrote :"This is on me xxxxx(my HR's name). I’ll get it to you Monday. I’m out tomorrow." Then, no updates at all even if I sent 3 emails and my HR sent 4 emails. On 01/11/2022, my HR told me he finally scheduled a call with Kevin to discuss this in detail. Kevin kept telling my company that everything was fine and under control, and he was just too busy to send my stuff to me. In early June 2022, because my STEM OPT was about to expire, I finally pushed harder to try to get my visa. I have sent emails, called FisherBroyles' office, called Kevin's personal number that he left on his website (https://www.fisherbroyles.com/people/kevin-lashus), and no responses at all. Until I finally CCed every related email I could think of, including all my managers and HRs and FisherBroyles' information and immigration emails, Kevin finally started to reply. At that time, he still said everything was good, and he finally admitted that his team didn't successfully submit my case because they sent out an underfunded check. Then he incorrectly suggested that it could be easily fixed as long as we still submit the application this year. Because he totally ignored the valid period noted in the notice (04/01/2021 to 06/30/2021), I sent multiple emails to ask for clarity and Kevin did not answer to the question even once. Therefore I started to consult other lawyers, which I should have done much earlier, and all lawyers or lawyer groups I have consulted told me that what Kevin proposed would not work out at all. In the end, I sent an email telling Kevin the information I found, and I was hoping for a collaborative discussion to solve problems. He then replied with a very harsh email, saying things like "you should not look for information on your own", "you are in our way", "your company would like to pay us to submit another application for you this year, do you want or not?", etc. His assistant then followed with a pricing list asking for thousands of dollars that they had not mentioned earlier at all...... My company and I had no other choice but to find a more professional and reliable law firm to advise us. Now I am already outside of US and applying for Canadian working visa as a workaround. But it is still very scary to imagine that had I never questioned Kevin, I would have already violated the immigration law of the US by illegally working for 4 months and overstaying for 2 months. During that period of time, as long as Kevin was a little bit more responsive, or a little bit more transparent, or a little bit more responsible, or a little bit more professional, my employer and I would have more than enough time to prepare and fix the first mistake Kevin's team made. Like we could get into the lottery again in 2022, or we could prepare for relocating me to Canada much earlier, etc. Yet, Kevin's unprofessionalism forced me outside of US unexpectedly for already 2 months, and I'm not sure how many to come, and all these dramas also have cost my employer many resources in terms of money and time. In a nutshell, based on my experience with Kevin, he is a lawyer who is unprofessional and unresponsive, and he is a master at providing unlawful suggestions rather than proactively facing mistakes and solving problems.

We met with Jennifer about my case. She explained the process very thoroughly and was honest and understanding. She was very easy to talk to and knowledgeable. We spoke with her once earlier about a year ago and what she said would happen did happen. It gave me peace of mind to know that I was hiring a lawyer that knew what she was talking about. That is why I came back to her. I recommend her to everyone who needs a good attorney for immigration.

Jennifer took the time to explain my immigration process to me and was upfront with her fees. She tells you what all the fees are and she is very fair. There are no surprises. I spoke with other attorneys that wanted a lot of money and I wasn’t comfortable with them. Her office filed my papers quickly and I got my residency fast. She even attended the interview with me. I felt better having her there.

I'm a grandma who intervened on a cps case regarding my grandchildren and won! Leo Farias II, has represented me in the most professional manner, his ethics are of the highest standards. Honest, trustworthy and very straight forward. In unvarnished truth he will tell you exactly where you stand and what direction you should go. Leo Farias II has provided legal advice and guidance during a difficult situation. I found him to be experienced, responsive, very knowledgeable and honest. While working with Leo, I felt as though my situation was in adept and trustworthy hands, and he did not steer me wrong. Never losing site of the end goal, which is to protect, defend and have the best outcome for his clients. His friendship, courtesy, knowledge and honesty have become very important to me during the time he represented me in my case. He is well respected in the community and has earned this respect following the values of his faith and commitment to his vocation He will not run up a bill with chit chat or unnecessary communication. Very fair in what he charges for his services. I also would like to comment on his staff. Throughout my case, I have never encountered an attorney or there staff who are like Leo’s. They don’t take messages and make you wait days for answers or help and I’m so grateful to have them to answer all my questions in a very timely manner. I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND Leo Farias II and his staff to anyone seeking legal representation. They are fair, honest and will keep your best interest and unique needs at the forefront. Should the situation arise, I would not hesitate to seek representation from Leo Farias II again. He is always on top of the game and never misses a deadline. Don’t hire him if you are not going to trust him and let him do his job.

Retained Leo and firm as grandparents seeking custody of an infant grandchild. CPS was involved, rehabs were involved. Needless to say from our perspective it was a mess. After our first consultation with his firm there was no going back. We were in good hands. Even when the rehab provided an attorney for the mother and I got a knot in the pit of my stomach, this firm stood their ground on what was in the best interest of the child. We may be grandparents but Leo saw that this child had his only chance of survival with us. It’s been almost 5 years now. The mother has never reached out to inquire as to the well being of her son. Leo and his very qualified team are not in this for mom, dad, grandparents..... they do this because every child deserves to be loved, nurtured, protected and to have a life of opportunity. I waited to post this as I didn’t want it to come from a place of relief in my heart. I wanted it to come from my heart at a time where all the emotions of a custody case have been far removed. If you are going through a tough time and you need a divorce or child custody attorney look no further than Leo and his team

It's unfortunate to have to secure his services, and the services of his firm, but he and his staff has made my experience pleasant. Both attorneys visited with me right away, and filed my divorce within 24 hours. Their staff have kept me up to date, and have answered all of my questions. I am still going through the process (60 days not up), and both attorneys continue to guide and advice how to best handle every unfortunate incident that continues to happen. I highly recommend their services.

Professional and knowledgeable Attorney, who knows all that she does as far as citizenship cases is concerned. After consulting 5 Attorneys they turn and pay consultation fees of not less $ 150 , they turn me away that there is no way that they could fight my case, " that it's hard at this time of administration ". They couldn't even take their time to go through the papers i presented to them!!! But amazingly and energetic Carrie to it to perdonal , went through word by word, and adviced me that She will try to fight it and for sure she did upto my interview with immigration officer and indded i went through and now am waiting for my Oath Ceremony invitation. I completely with all my heart recommend her to anybody out there having any case as for immigration at USCIS, no to risk out there with what i went through the 5 Attorney's, JUST TRY CARRIE NGUYEN, YOU WILL NEVER REGRET. She's super and She will handle your case perfectly, hence come out successfully.

Vi Nanthaveth is one of the best lawyers that I came across. My case was very difficult immigration case that involved in arrest and needed I-601 petition. She filed the petition and was approved within 3 months. I-601 Is the worst of all US immigration filings and if she can get an i-601 petition approved for a person that had domestic violence arrest, she can handle any immigration case without any doubt. She will work with you with very little information that you have. Also you can call her office and someone will be there to answer the call at any time. She is the best.

This lady has no knowledge of the legal system. It took me almost two years gathering information she requested, spending money I didn't have on things such as office space, legalization of my company, hiring public accountants and other corporation lawyers only to finally be told that it would be impossible for me to obtain my E2 business visa. She informed me after two years of deliberations only FOUR working days before my I-94 permit expired. The whole time I felt poorly represented by a person with little to no experience of immigration law, but felt compelled to continue working with her due to the fact that she seemed to be my only option at the time. You can only imagine how hard it is to have to hire a lawyer simply to start a business in a new country. I wasted two years of my life and over $5,000 of my hard earned money on this matter. She felt so badly about handling my case so poorly that she refunded $2,000 of this money. However, this didn't even come close to covering all the expenses I incurred obtaining information that she requested. She always seemed to be distracted and confused by other cases, vacations and family emergencies. Furthermore, it was always very hard to reach her by phone. Think twice before hiring this person. And do not let her rates fool you, it will cost you more at the end.

I sought Ms. Wilson’s counsel for my divorce after firing an incompetent attorney, and while the divorce took much longer than I thought, I can’t say enough positive things about her. She responded promptly to my calls and emails, and always kept me apprised of any communication with the opposing attorney. The settlement of my divorce was more than I anticipated, and she helped me avoid a jury trial, which the opposing attorney had requested. Divorce is painful; however, if you find yourself in need of legal counsel, I highly recommend Carol Wilson.

What an Immigration Lawyer Can Do for You

An immigration lawyer specializes in helping individuals, families, and businesses navigate the complex immigration process. These lawyers provide legal guidance on various immigration matters, such as obtaining visas, gaining permanent residency (green cards), applying for citizenship, and defending clients in deportation or removal proceedings. Immigration lawyers also assist with employment-based immigration, asylum applications, and resolving issues related to visas or immigration status.

Whether you're trying to immigrate to the U.S., facing deportation, or sponsoring an employee or family member for a visa, an immigration lawyer can help you understand your legal options and navigate the often complicated legal system.

When Should I Hire an Immigration Lawyer?

Hiring an immigration lawyer is beneficial in many situations where you are dealing with U.S. immigration laws, whether for personal or business reasons. Common reasons to hire an immigration lawyer include:

  • Visa applications: If you need assistance applying for a visa, whether it's a work visa (H-1B), student visa (F-1), or tourist visa (B-1/B-2), a lawyer can help ensure the application is properly completed and submitted.
  • Green card applications: If you're seeking permanent residency, an immigration lawyer can guide you through the process, whether through family sponsorship, employment, or the Diversity Visa (lottery) program.
  • Deportation or removal defense: If you’re facing deportation or removal from the U.S., a lawyer can defend your case in immigration court and seek to prevent removal.
  • Asylum applications: If you’re seeking asylum due to persecution or fear of persecution in your home country, a lawyer can help you prepare a strong case and file for asylum.
  • Family reunification: If you're a U.S. citizen or permanent resident looking to bring family members to the U.S., a lawyer can assist with the family sponsorship process.
  • Citizenship and naturalization: If you're ready to apply for U.S. citizenship, a lawyer can help you navigate the naturalization process and ensure you meet all the requirements.
  • Business immigration: If you're an employer seeking to hire foreign workers, a lawyer can assist with employment-based visas, labor certification, and compliance with immigration regulations.
  • Special immigration categories: Immigration lawyers also handle complex cases, such as visas for victims of human trafficking (T visa), crime victims (U visa), or those seeking Temporary Protected Status (TPS).

Hiring an immigration lawyer early in the process can help you avoid delays, errors, and possible denials due to incomplete or incorrect applications.

What Does an Immigration Lawyer Do?

An immigration lawyer provides a wide range of services to help clients with their immigration needs, whether personal or business-related. Their tasks often include:

  • Assisting with visa applications: Helping clients fill out and submit visa applications, ensuring all documentation is complete and accurate.
  • Filing for green cards and permanent residency: Guiding clients through the process of applying for a green card, including family-based, employment-based, or other forms of residency.
  • Defending against deportation or removal: Representing clients in immigration court who are facing deportation and working to prevent removal from the U.S.
  • Preparing asylum cases: Assisting clients in applying for asylum based on fear of persecution in their home country due to race, religion, nationality, political opinion, or membership in a particular social group.
  • Handling citizenship applications: Helping lawful permanent residents apply for naturalization and ensuring they meet all the legal requirements for U.S. citizenship.
  • Employment-based immigration: Assisting employers with the process of sponsoring foreign workers for temporary or permanent visas, including H-1B, L-1, and EB-1 through EB-5 visas.
  • Representation in immigration interviews: Preparing clients for immigration interviews and attending interviews at U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) offices.
  • Appealing denied applications: If a visa, green card, or citizenship application is denied, a lawyer can file appeals or motions to reopen or reconsider the case.

How Are Immigration Lawyers Paid?

Immigration lawyers generally charge for their services based on the type of immigration case and the complexity of the legal work involved. Common payment structures include:

  • Flat fee: Many immigration lawyers charge a flat fee for specific services, such as preparing a visa application, green card petition, or citizenship application. Flat fees help clients know upfront what the legal costs will be for a particular service.
  • Hourly rate: For more complex cases, such as deportation defense or appeals, some lawyers charge by the hour. Hourly rates vary depending on the lawyer's experience and the complexity of the case.
  • Retainer: For ongoing immigration matters, some clients may need to pay a retainer, which is an upfront payment billed against as the lawyer works on the case.
  • Pro bono or sliding scale: Some immigration lawyers or nonprofit organizations may offer free or low-cost services for clients with limited financial means, particularly in asylum or humanitarian cases.

It’s essential to discuss the fee structure with your lawyer during the initial consultation to understand the costs and payment arrangements.

How Much Does an Immigration Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring an immigration lawyer varies based on the type of legal service required, the lawyer's experience, and the complexity of the case. General cost estimates include:

  • Visa applications: For help with visa applications (e.g., H-1B, L-1, F-1), legal fees may range from $2,000 to $7,500, depending on the complexity and the type of visa.
  • Green card applications: Fees for family-based or employment-based green card applications typically range from $3,000 to $10,000, depending on the case.
  • Deportation defense: For defending clients in removal proceedings, costs can range from $5,000 to $15,000 or more, depending on the complexity of the case and how long the case takes.
  • Asylum cases: Asylum applications may range from $2,000 to $10,000, depending on whether the case is defensive (in removal proceedings) or affirmative (not in removal proceedings).
  • Citizenship applications: Legal fees for filing a naturalization application usually range from $1,500 to $5,000, depending on the complexity of the client’s immigration history.
  • Business immigration services: Fees for assisting businesses with employment-based visas (such as H-1B or EB-5 visas) often range from $3,000 to $10,000 or more.

Always ask for a clear breakdown of costs and fee arrangements before proceeding with legal services.

Top Questions to Ask an Immigration Lawyer

Before hiring an immigration lawyer, it's essential to ask questions to ensure they have the experience and expertise to handle your case effectively. Important questions to ask include:

  1. What experience do you have with immigration cases like mine?
Ensure the lawyer has experience handling cases similar to yours, whether it’s family-based immigration, employment visas, or asylum.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer charges a flat fee, hourly rate, or retainer, and ask for a detailed estimate of the total cost.
  3. What is the likelihood of success in my case?
Ask for an honest assessment of your case and the potential outcomes, including any challenges you might face.
  4. How long will the process take?
Immigration cases can take time, so ask how long it may take to process your application or resolve your legal issue.
  5. Will you handle my case personally?
In larger firms, junior attorneys or paralegals may handle parts of your case. Make sure you know who will be working on your case directly.
  6. What documents do I need to provide?
Ask the lawyer about the documentation required to support your case, such as birth certificates, marriage certificates, or employment contracts.

How to Check the Credibility of an Immigration Lawyer

To ensure you are hiring a reputable immigration lawyer, take the following steps to verify their credentials and track record:

  • Check their state bar status: Confirm with your state bar association that the lawyer is licensed to practice and has no disciplinary actions against them.
  • Look for specific immigration law experience: Review the lawyer’s website or professional profile to ensure they specialize in immigration law and have experience handling cases like yours.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for reviews on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to see what previous clients have said about the lawyer’s professionalism and success rate.
  • Ask for references: A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their ability to handle immigration cases.
  • Check for industry affiliations: Membership in organizations like the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) can indicate the lawyer’s expertise and commitment to immigration law.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most out of your first consultation with an immigration lawyer, it’s important to come prepared with relevant documents and information. Here’s what you should bring:

  • Passport and immigration documents: Bring your passport, visa, and any documents related to your current immigration status.
  • Family documents: If you're applying for a family-based visa or green card, bring marriage certificates, birth certificates, and proof of family relationships.
  • Employment information: For employment-based visas, provide your employment contract, offer letter, or other documentation of your job.
  • Criminal records (if applicable): If you have any criminal history, bring copies of court records and other relevant documents.
  • Timeline of events: Provide a clear timeline of any prior immigration applications, visas, or issues with immigration authorities.
  • List of questions: Prepare any questions you have about your immigration case, the process, costs, and the likelihood of success.

By preparing thoroughly for your consultation, you can help the lawyer understand your case more effectively and get the best possible legal advice on how to proceed.
