Where do I begin expressing the grief I experienced with my wife when dealing with your firm? It started in April after the accident, your firm displayed glimpses of promise. In the first couple of weeks, you all got the information about our case in a timely fashion and communicated with us fairly well. While I know it isn't your responsibility to handle the property damage portion of our case, you offered very little advice (like other firms do) to remedy the situation. Thank God we got our vehicle repaired quickly thanks to the Insurance company. The bad part of our experience was, your firm lacks communication skills. Plain and simple. We waited for weeks and months to learn most of the details about our case. The legal assistant (Nicole Starks) NEVER got back to us in a timely manner. She literally went on vacation and didn't let us know what was going on and couldn't care less if we knew. We were left in the dark MOST OF THE TIME, wondering and not knowing. I feel as though this process should have been completed MONTHS AGO. When too much time had gone by, we were given EXCUSES and blame towards a well-known insurance company that is known for being professional and prompt in their dealings. "The insurance company wants more information", we call BS! Based on the lethargic and inept performance of the Founders team, we have no other resolve but to feel that it was a failure on the law firm's part. My wife completed her treatments and the case should have been wrapped up soon after. When I say soon, I do understand that it takes a reasonable amount of time for completion, but ALMOST 90 MORE DAYS??? One word, TERRIBLE. The worst part is that after waiting for all of that time, we received a paltry settlement. Wow. So, to conclude, I wouldn't recommend your firm for anything, not even a dog bite. You should fire your whole staff. Their nonchalant and uncaring attitude is displayed very well. On the phone, we can feel that they really don't give a damn. They have their rehearsed answers ready to extinguish any questions asked of them by clients who NEED A GOOD ATTORNEY and need true answers. Also, "They are on another call, can I have them call you back," is another line we were often given when Nicole Starks didn't want to be bothered or had no answer. If I am ever asked about your firm I will tell them about my horrible experience. And will recommend they go elsewhere.

No reason to fear this place they drag out chump change cases and have newbies and interns do all the work. Big companies spend more money in litigation than they would have if they settled. Stay away!!!

Definitely would not recommend for hire… they purposely dragged out our case. The Plaintiff was more than willing to settle for way less than they was in the beginning but the attorney never said a word. No calls, communication and very unprofessional. Wish we saw these reviews beforehand.

Not recommended. Don't let the fancy website fool you. Probate court appointed Matthew Bennett to represent our eldery/disabled father in a simple conservator/guardian petition. After 2 meetings with my father and 3 court appearances he billed my father $4,777. His office is on the backside and in a basement room of a strip mall in the poorest part of Griffin. I suspect he is mostly unemployed and took this opportunity to try and swindle an elderly man.

Hired him through his associates. It was and still is an act of congress to get him or anyone to return calls, texts, emails. I had to do the majority of the work. Never until the last day did he even have contact with the defendant. Was going to sell him out until I went off. Said he made a deal. Well he nor the others didn’t have the authority to promise what he told. It was a lie I can prove it. He even filled out the questionnaire for the defendant so he could hurry and leave. The defendant was not aware of this nor I. The defendant has TBI issues. He really didn’t understand it all. But agreed per the attorney. The attorney never sought other options even after I told him to. Afterwards he said he always keeps up with his clients after the fact. WRONG! There is so much more I could say but I’m wore out right now because I’M fighting for the person that was lied to and done wrong. MR. REX is ALL ABOUT THAT MONEY. I’ve learned my lesson with him.

Very disappointed with Chip Thurston and our dental malpractice case. It appears that if the defendant does not wish to settle, then Chip is not interested in proceeding to court. But you would not know that as he will not contact you until a few weeks before the statute of limitations is to expire. I had to contact him as to the status and by then no other lawyer would take the case because of this statute. Now I understand the term 'ambulance chaser'. Look elsewhere and stay up to date on your case.

My wife and I hired "Chip" to represent us in a Dental Malpractice case where Dr. Whitaker of Fort Valley, Ga. had pulled the wrong tooth, shoved it back in for two days and then confessed. After a hiring Chip Thurston, we waited, waited and more waiting. Numerous emails and telephone calls went unaswered. This went on over a two year period. Complete and total lack of communication with the client. In the final hours, he allowed the statute of limitations to run, so, because of his malpractice, we lost the dental malpractice case. It was too late to find another lawyer. Even then, after we told him the statute was about to run weeks later his answer was we still had time. Apparently, he does not own a calendar. Two years, nothing but incompetence and arrogance. Do not hire this guy, what ever you do.

I had a very clear, straight forward case which should have been an easy case to settle. HOWEVER, Steve is a horrible communicator, did not keep me informed about my case, I did 99% of work, I had to constantly ask him about my case, and when I finally talked to him about why things are not being done, he was very rude, unprofessional and defensive, and told me if I didn't like what he was doing, go find someone else. He flat out lied and contradicted things he said and did. I also found out that there was a conflict of interest in my case which he denied there was nothing wrong. He constantly made empty promises, is very unorganized, was always late for appointments and quite frankly was belittling to his employees. He not only took my entire retainer (which was 1,000s of dollars), he even had the arrogance to send me a outstanding balance due. I never saw a statement for work done, nor did he inform me of how much time he had spent on my case until I fired him. I immediately got a bill from him via email with an outstanding balance due. I reached out to him for help me yet it has turned out to be a nightmare and because of his incompetency and unprofessional conduct, my case is not only not open, but it is now months behind. I wished I never met Steve nor reached out to him for assistance. DO NOT USE HIM. It will be nothing but an exercise in frustration, wasted money, and fruitless time spent.

Very sad you would unjustly try to prosecute someone when they didn’t commit a crime. It’s believed the reason was because of your personal feelings, and political motivation. Thankfully we have a legal system that worked and the jury was smarter in interpreting the law, than the DA. That should say a lot .

mr whitman although a very nice man, was the suckiest (if thats even a word) lawyer ever. The whole time that he was may lawyere I spoke to him maybe a total of a 2 hours combined.. the most i found out about my case was a few days before going.. then when i get there i tried discussing the possiblities of going to trial and he kept trying to push me to take a 6 month plea deal where i would go to jail. He did not present the entire plea deal to me. Also kept telling me the DA had a very weak case.. pretty much no evidence but one word against another, but still kept trying to pressure me. At a calendae call I asked the judge for a continuance to retain my own lawyer. I told Mr. Whitman my plan before hand he tried to tell me that only 90% of the time your able to change your lawyer (that was a lie) the judge told me that it was my right to obtain my own lawyer if i wish to do so

I contacted the Attorney Generals Office to register a complaint of Fraud. I did so on line. They told me it would be a fee of $5.00 for filing, so I used a credit card. But before I could be connected to an attorney they wanted me to agree to an automatic withdrawal of $60.00 a month until I cancelled. This is another form of extortion especially since the Attorney General is paid by tax payers. Do not consumers have any protection by our government without them trying to extort funds from taxpayers?

After being the recipient of an unnecessary surgical procedure, I was referred to Attorney Tricia Purks Hoffler. After getting over some initial hurdles, the primary one being the arduous task of the surgeon signing the release of my medical records things moved forward. My written documentation was provided as requested which was cross referenced with the medical records from the hospital/doctor. There were long periods of time with no communication from Attorney Hoffler’s office. Upon contacting her office for updates “Deanna” her paralegal answered questions. There was a delay in getting an answer from the specialist according to “Deanna “ who Attorney Hoffler contacted to examine the facts of the case. Finally he was on board. “Deanna” called to verify my position regarding the misdiagnosis of the surgery. The surgery was performed because of the misdiagnosis of an infectious disease that could cause the loss of my hand and arm if not performed according to the orthopedic surgeon. This was decided to be the cause of the severe inflammation and swelling in my hand as well as the pain. Of course no bacteria was found. Eventually, “ Deanna” advised “she will take the case”, referring to Attorney Hoffler via a phone call. More time passes. January 29, 2020 “Deanna” asked for documentation on behalf of Attorney Hoffler of how the surgery impacted my life “before she takes” me “on as a client.” When did this shift occur? The documentation was provided. After no response for more than two weeks, a call was placed to “Deanna”. She was not in according to “Donna”. When asked when she would return, the response was “She won’t.” The name of the new person assigned to me was “Joy” who would be in in two days at which time the call would be returned. Two days later on February 28, 2020, a call to “Joy” was placed. According to“Donna” she was not in. Upon checking she stated Attorney Hoffler “turned down the offer.” Surely this was known sooner than stated. This gross display of unprofessionalism is reprehensible. More importantly so much of my time has been unnecessarily wasted.

What an Insurance Lawyer Can Do for You

An insurance lawyer specializes in legal issues related to insurance policies and claims. These lawyers help individuals, businesses, and insurance companies navigate disputes involving insurance coverage, claim denials, bad faith claims, and policy interpretation. Insurance lawyers can represent policyholders who feel they've been unfairly denied coverage, or they can work on behalf of insurance companies to defend against fraudulent or inflated claims.

Whether you're filing a claim, disputing a denial, or dealing with complex coverage issues, an insurance lawyer can provide critical guidance and legal representation to protect your rights and ensure you receive the benefits you're entitled to under your policy.

When Should I Hire an Insurance Lawyer?

Hiring an insurance lawyer is advisable in several situations, particularly when disputes arise over insurance coverage, claim denials, or bad faith actions. Common reasons to hire an insurance lawyer include:

  • Denied insurance claims: If your insurance company denies your claim, a lawyer can help determine whether the denial was justified or if you should challenge the decision.
  • Bad faith insurance practices: If you believe your insurer has acted in bad faith, such as delaying payment or failing to properly investigate your claim, a lawyer can help you pursue legal action.
  • Underpaid claims: If the insurance company has offered less compensation than you believe your claim is worth, a lawyer can negotiate for a higher payout or file a lawsuit.
  • Coverage disputes: When there's ambiguity or disagreement about what your policy covers, a lawyer can provide clarity and advocate for your rights under the policy.
  • Business insurance claims: If you own a business and are dealing with commercial insurance claims (e.g., property damage, liability, or professional indemnity), a lawyer can help ensure your business receives proper coverage.
  • Third-party claims: If you're being sued for liability and your insurance company refuses to defend or indemnify you, an insurance lawyer can help enforce your coverage rights.
  • Appealing long-term disability claims: If your disability insurance claim has been denied, a lawyer can assist in gathering evidence and appealing the decision to get the benefits you deserve.

What Does an Insurance Lawyer Do?

An insurance lawyer provides a wide range of services to assist with insurance-related legal issues. These can include:

  • Reviewing insurance policies: A lawyer can review your insurance policy to ensure you understand your rights and obligations, as well as clarify what coverage is provided.
  • Filing insurance claims: Assisting with the preparation and filing of claims to ensure all necessary documentation is submitted correctly.
  • Challenging claim denials: If your claim has been denied, a lawyer can investigate the reasons for denial and file appeals or lawsuits to challenge the decision.
  • Litigating bad faith claims: Representing clients in bad faith insurance cases, where the insurer fails to act in good faith by unfairly delaying, denying, or underpaying a valid claim.
  • Negotiating settlements: Helping policyholders negotiate settlements with insurance companies to receive fair compensation for claims.
  • Defending against fraudulent claims: Representing insurance companies to defend against false or exaggerated claims filed by policyholders or third parties.
  • Handling disputes over policy language: Interpreting complex insurance policies and resolving disputes between the insured and the insurer regarding coverage limits, exclusions, and conditions.

How Are Insurance Lawyers Paid?

Insurance lawyers typically charge for their services in different ways, depending on the nature of the case and the type of insurance issue involved. Common payment structures include:

  • Contingency fee: For many policyholders disputing claim denials or underpayments, lawyers work on a contingency basis. This means the lawyer only gets paid if they win or settle the case, taking a percentage (usually between 25% and 40%) of the recovered amount.
  • Hourly rate: For more complex or ongoing legal issues, such as bad faith lawsuits or business insurance disputes, insurance lawyers may charge an hourly rate. This rate varies depending on the lawyer’s experience and location.
  • Flat fee: For simpler matters, such as reviewing an insurance policy or helping file a claim, some lawyers charge a flat fee for their services.
  • Retainer: For businesses or clients with ongoing legal needs, an insurance lawyer may require a retainer fee, which is an upfront payment for future services.

It’s important to clarify the fee structure with your lawyer during the initial consultation to avoid unexpected costs.

How Much Does an Insurance Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring an insurance lawyer depends on the complexity of the case, the lawyer's experience, and the payment structure. General cost estimates include:

  • Contingency fees: If your lawyer works on a contingency fee basis, you won’t pay any fees upfront, but the lawyer will take a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or judgment awarded.
  • Hourly rates: Hourly rates for insurance lawyers generally range from $150 to $500 or more, depending on the lawyer’s experience and location. Complex cases involving bad faith or high-value business claims may require significant hours, leading to higher legal costs.
  • Flat fees: For specific services, such as reviewing an insurance policy, lawyers may charge a flat fee ranging from $500 to $2,500, depending on the complexity of the task.
  • Retainers: Businesses or individuals seeking ongoing insurance legal services may pay a retainer, which can range from $5,000 to $20,000 or more, depending on the lawyer and scope of work.

Make sure to discuss costs and payment structures with your lawyer before proceeding to understand how much the services will cost.

Top Questions to Ask an Insurance Lawyer

Before hiring an insurance lawyer, it’s important to ask the right questions to ensure they are the right fit for your case. Here are key questions to ask:

  1. What experience do you have with insurance law?
Ensure the lawyer has specific experience handling cases involving your type of insurance, whether it’s auto, health, home, or business-related.

How to Check the Credibility of an Insurance Lawyer

To ensure you’re hiring a reputable insurance lawyer, take the following steps to verify their credentials and experience:

  • Verify their state bar license: Check with your state bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing with no disciplinary actions.
  • Review their experience in insurance law: Look at the lawyer’s website or professional profile to ensure they specialize in insurance law and have experience with cases like yours.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Search for reviews on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to see what previous clients have said about the lawyer’s expertise and professionalism.
  • Ask for references: A credible lawyer should be able to provide references from past clients who have dealt with similar insurance issues.
  • Check for industry memberships: Membership in organizations like the American Bar Association’s Tort Trial and Insurance Practice Section (TIPS) can indicate the lawyer’s focus on insurance law.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most out of your first consultation with an insurance lawyer, come prepared with the following documents and information:

  • A copy of your insurance policy: Bring the policy related to your claim or dispute so the lawyer can review the coverage details.
  • Any correspondence with the insurance company: Provide copies of letters, emails, or other communications between you and your insurer regarding the claim or denial.
  • Proof of claim and supporting documents: Bring any documentation you have submitted with your claim, including receipts, invoices, photos, medical records, or repair estimates.
  • List of questions: Prepare a list of questions you want to ask about your case, the legal process, and the potential outcomes.
  • Timeline of events: Be ready to provide a clear timeline of the incident that led to the claim and any steps you’ve taken with your insurance company.

By preparing thoroughly for your consultation, you can ensure that the lawyer has all the information they need to assess your case and provide the best legal advice.
