I’m so grateful to this Law Office as they are very consistent, prompt, and seamless in their approach with my case. They made sure that I got the appropriate medical treatment required for my pain and they took care of me in the most fair way possible. They keep me abreast on my case throughout the process. I am grateful and yes, I would absolutely refer them to my family and friends.

This law firm was supposed to obtain compensation for me as part of a class action lawsuit (I have an implanted medical device that can break free at any moment and kill me). They determined my risk was only worth $17k. Then, after they deducted their cut, they deducted further "time and expenses", sending me a check for a whopping $6200. This is pure greed; they have no conscience!

I want people to know that this firm has been a rip off. I waited 8years to get something from a IVC filter lawsuit that medical left my health a living nightmare. I was told like a lot of people to take the settlement it the best you can get and it should settle within 6 months it took another 3 years are longer ( I'm 66 years old so some of my time line my be off) Point being between lawyers a lien and this so call Gobal Medicare Lein that you were never told about I did not receive one single dime. But all the lawyer firm that Matthew & Matthew used and the cost of Acher LLC that also they never mentioned to and of us they got paid. Never again will I use this firm again. I pray that anyone that is involved with them in a class suit really pay attention to the real reviews that people are posting not the ones that say how great a firm this is. Alao it will take forever for you to receive a call or correspondence from them until they are trying to say face for what they know is really bad representation of some of there clients

Missed deadlines - did not notify me of hearings even though I provided dates I would be in town. Overbilled by at least 300%, including billing thousands AFTER the relationship was terminated. Lost files, lost correspondence and was totally imcompetent. Requested filings to be filed and it was never done, It;s all about milking his clients for money and you will get nothing for it. Counsel following him stated the file received was the worst she had ever seen in her career. A complaint with the Texas Bar has been filed. STAY AWAY!

I consulted with Megan Lonergan as she has advertised on line to help maintain justice regarding inequitable conditions and harassment in the workplace. Megan Lonergan states on-line that ALL employees "deserve dignity and respect in the workplace". On Dec 7 I contacted her and she encouraged me to come in for a consultation. She told me I was very brave in my specific complaints. On Dec 10 I came in and talked with her for 3 hours. She said I had a good case and that she often only takes protected class cases but she said my case was very strong and that "even white people can be discriminated against". She also stated that she feels discrimination based on the tattoos she chose to give herself covering up and down both her arms. She said to me "You look a lot younger than you are, thats discrimination too". I told her I was afraid, and she agreed "you have every right to be afraid" when I presented her with details. Megan Lonergan requested I send emails and cell phone documentation of the harassment and inequitable treatment. It is very blatant and well proven. I had numerous well established patterns of behavior. After sending Megan Lonergan many emails, she said "there are never too many emails" and "you don't need to send in chronological order or organization, I can do that". Yet Megan never responded to one evidence and never made an organized presentation to her boss. She has not control over her cases and is a waste of time. Her "concerned voice" became a monotone response when she called back 11 days later to pass on the case. I told her I was nervous about retaliation, she said "retaliation is very serious and you need to let me know immediately".Yet when I was retaliated against on Dec 15, I did tell her and there was no response. I also informed her of a court case identical to mine with the same employer and her response also monotone "I haven't read it" I sent it too her, there was no response. There was no response to any emails I sent Megan. December 18, 8 days of emailing her documented examples, I still had not heard from Megan. She told me she was going to begin to investigate by then. Dec 21 Megan called me on her personal cell phone and informed me "I will not be taking you case because you are not a protected class. My boss said". Megan never stated she was a filter to the big boys, she is very deceiving and pretends to care, pretends to be concerned about justice. Pretends to be in control. She never did anything about the retaliation I received and when I asked her again, she said in a new monotone voice "Again its not my case anymore and out of my control you are not a protected class" although to lure me in she stayed it didn't matter! Megan has no concern for justice. She is very unorganized, I have never seen any work she did, she never responded to any evidence and she never provided what she claims to have "forwarded on to another cohort on January 11" That is 30 days delaying my case! She provided no reasons not to take my well established and blatant case. She only has the ability to protect her employer and take easy cases. Megan Lonergan also talks about herself and her personal life, she also digs for information about me like wanting to know where my children attend school! She is very unprofessional and very dishonest. She is a disappointment and is a facade to justice. I would not recommend Megan and I would not talk to her. Get a lawyer and skip the talk with Megan. She also moves around a lot so her employers use her as a filter but she acts like she is the decision maker- clearly she is not. waste of time and emotions talking to Megan.

I dont dislike Andrew Tatgenhorst as a person even though he does appear very bored and generally disgruntled. However, I do have experience with him as opposing counsel and my genuine feeling/opinion is that he’s bad for kids. Andrew ramps things up, serving only himself in legal fees, and seemingly has no sight of the child at the core of the dispute. Thus, districts are paying taxpayer dollars to Andrew’s attitude rather than to children’s services. I didn’t find Andrew to be incredibly honest, the opposite in my experiences. I also noted that Andrew focused quite a lot (perhaps exclusively) on extraneous things that did not serve the child or resolution but designed to malign the student and/or their family. Unfortunately, I also witnessed harmful tactics. I would hope school districts would partner with solution oriented, student centered firms who can advance mutual interests and needs, support children, and save taxpayer dollars. I did not feel like this was the case with Andrew and Thompson Horton.

They will twist the story around and let you do a very very long maximum sentence in prison over a very very very serious accusation that was so dam false to begin with. Even a dummy could read the fine print and have common sense. Beware! Just keep it moving and hire yourself a real good professional. But…“Instead they should be called the criminals and of the state for allowing such behavior of a dirty trial from the officers, detectives, to the jury and then to the judge….not to mention the cross examiners and cross examination they did was very questionable how can you allow such verdict without sufficient evidence let alone a minor was interviewed without permission of a parent. They will violate your constitutional rights from left to right but they will fight to keep themselves standing innocent at the cost of what?? An innocent man’s life. I’m sure this isn’t the first time they do something this dirty but I do believe more proper investigation shall be given in any case given that will jeopardize someone’s impeccable life…to be exact this all happened in the city of Montgomery County Texas to be Exact….

I believe he was padding my tab with all kinds of frivolous filings. He kept saying he needed to or we had to and I can't think of a single one that succeeded. I became so suspicious that I started looking into his finances. What I found was that he lived in a run down shack, drives a Toyota Camry and had been sued twice for failing to pay his property taxes. I think he was just so desperate for money that he felt the need to run up my tab. I finally had to terminate our relationship.

I've had the pleasure to work with many Baylor law school graduates. In the past a degree from Baylor would mean your attorney was both competent and ethical. For me, I cannot express the disappointment I experienced with him. Brice is both incompetent and unethical. I would encourage everyone to avoid him at all costs. What an Insurance Lawyer Can Do for You

An insurance lawyer specializes in legal issues related to insurance policies and claims. These lawyers help individuals, businesses, and insurance companies navigate disputes involving insurance coverage, claim denials, bad faith claims, and policy interpretation. Insurance lawyers can represent policyholders who feel they've been unfairly denied coverage, or they can work on behalf of insurance companies to defend against fraudulent or inflated claims.

Whether you're filing a claim, disputing a denial, or dealing with complex coverage issues, an insurance lawyer can provide critical guidance and legal representation to protect your rights and ensure you receive the benefits you're entitled to under your policy.

When Should I Hire an Insurance Lawyer?

Hiring an insurance lawyer is advisable in several situations, particularly when disputes arise over insurance coverage, claim denials, or bad faith actions. Common reasons to hire an insurance lawyer include:

  • Denied insurance claims: If your insurance company denies your claim, a lawyer can help determine whether the denial was justified or if you should challenge the decision.
  • Bad faith insurance practices: If you believe your insurer has acted in bad faith, such as delaying payment or failing to properly investigate your claim, a lawyer can help you pursue legal action.
  • Underpaid claims: If the insurance company has offered less compensation than you believe your claim is worth, a lawyer can negotiate for a higher payout or file a lawsuit.
  • Coverage disputes: When there's ambiguity or disagreement about what your policy covers, a lawyer can provide clarity and advocate for your rights under the policy.
  • Business insurance claims: If you own a business and are dealing with commercial insurance claims (e.g., property damage, liability, or professional indemnity), a lawyer can help ensure your business receives proper coverage.
  • Third-party claims: If you're being sued for liability and your insurance company refuses to defend or indemnify you, an insurance lawyer can help enforce your coverage rights.
  • Appealing long-term disability claims: If your disability insurance claim has been denied, a lawyer can assist in gathering evidence and appealing the decision to get the benefits you deserve.

What Does an Insurance Lawyer Do?

An insurance lawyer provides a wide range of services to assist with insurance-related legal issues. These can include:

  • Reviewing insurance policies: A lawyer can review your insurance policy to ensure you understand your rights and obligations, as well as clarify what coverage is provided.
  • Filing insurance claims: Assisting with the preparation and filing of claims to ensure all necessary documentation is submitted correctly.
  • Challenging claim denials: If your claim has been denied, a lawyer can investigate the reasons for denial and file appeals or lawsuits to challenge the decision.
  • Litigating bad faith claims: Representing clients in bad faith insurance cases, where the insurer fails to act in good faith by unfairly delaying, denying, or underpaying a valid claim.
  • Negotiating settlements: Helping policyholders negotiate settlements with insurance companies to receive fair compensation for claims.
  • Defending against fraudulent claims: Representing insurance companies to defend against false or exaggerated claims filed by policyholders or third parties.
  • Handling disputes over policy language: Interpreting complex insurance policies and resolving disputes between the insured and the insurer regarding coverage limits, exclusions, and conditions.

How Are Insurance Lawyers Paid?

Insurance lawyers typically charge for their services in different ways, depending on the nature of the case and the type of insurance issue involved. Common payment structures include:

  • Contingency fee: For many policyholders disputing claim denials or underpayments, lawyers work on a contingency basis. This means the lawyer only gets paid if they win or settle the case, taking a percentage (usually between 25% and 40%) of the recovered amount.
  • Hourly rate: For more complex or ongoing legal issues, such as bad faith lawsuits or business insurance disputes, insurance lawyers may charge an hourly rate. This rate varies depending on the lawyer’s experience and location.
  • Flat fee: For simpler matters, such as reviewing an insurance policy or helping file a claim, some lawyers charge a flat fee for their services.
  • Retainer: For businesses or clients with ongoing legal needs, an insurance lawyer may require a retainer fee, which is an upfront payment for future services.

It’s important to clarify the fee structure with your lawyer during the initial consultation to avoid unexpected costs.

How Much Does an Insurance Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring an insurance lawyer depends on the complexity of the case, the lawyer's experience, and the payment structure. General cost estimates include:

  • Contingency fees: If your lawyer works on a contingency fee basis, you won’t pay any fees upfront, but the lawyer will take a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or judgment awarded.
  • Hourly rates: Hourly rates for insurance lawyers generally range from $150 to $500 or more, depending on the lawyer’s experience and location. Complex cases involving bad faith or high-value business claims may require significant hours, leading to higher legal costs.
  • Flat fees: For specific services, such as reviewing an insurance policy, lawyers may charge a flat fee ranging from $500 to $2,500, depending on the complexity of the task.
  • Retainers: Businesses or individuals seeking ongoing insurance legal services may pay a retainer, which can range from $5,000 to $20,000 or more, depending on the lawyer and scope of work.

Make sure to discuss costs and payment structures with your lawyer before proceeding to understand how much the services will cost.

Top Questions to Ask an Insurance Lawyer

Before hiring an insurance lawyer, it’s important to ask the right questions to ensure they are the right fit for your case. Here are key questions to ask:

  1. What experience do you have with insurance law?
Ensure the lawyer has specific experience handling cases involving your type of insurance, whether it’s auto, health, home, or business-related.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer works on contingency, hourly rates, or flat fees, and ask for an estimate of the total cost of your case.
  3. What is your success rate with insurance disputes?
Ask about the lawyer’s track record in winning or settling cases similar to yours.
  4. What are my chances of success?
A good lawyer will provide an honest assessment of your case’s strengths and weaknesses and outline the possible outcomes.
  5. How long will the process take?
Get an estimate of how long it will take to resolve your claim or dispute, as some cases can extend over months or even years.
  6. Will you handle my case personally?
In larger firms, junior attorneys or paralegals may handle some aspects of your case. Make sure you know who will be managing your case.

How to Check the Credibility of an Insurance Lawyer

To ensure you’re hiring a reputable insurance lawyer, take the following steps to verify their credentials and experience:

  • Verify their state bar license: Check with your state bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing with no disciplinary actions.
  • Review their experience in insurance law: Look at the lawyer’s website or professional profile to ensure they specialize in insurance law and have experience with cases like yours.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Search for reviews on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to see what previous clients have said about the lawyer’s expertise and professionalism.
  • Ask for references: A credible lawyer should be able to provide references from past clients who have dealt with similar insurance issues.
  • Check for industry memberships: Membership in organizations like the American Bar Association’s Tort Trial and Insurance Practice Section (TIPS) can indicate the lawyer’s focus on insurance law.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most out of your first consultation with an insurance lawyer, come prepared with the following documents and information:

  • A copy of your insurance policy: Bring the policy related to your claim or dispute so the lawyer can review the coverage details.
  • Any correspondence with the insurance company: Provide copies of letters, emails, or other communications between you and your insurer regarding the claim or denial.
  • Proof of claim and supporting documents: Bring any documentation you have submitted with your claim, including receipts, invoices, photos, medical records, or repair estimates.
  • List of questions: Prepare a list of questions you want to ask about your case, the legal process, and the potential outcomes.
  • Timeline of events: Be ready to provide a clear timeline of the incident that led to the claim and any steps you’ve taken with your insurance company.

By preparing thoroughly for your consultation, you can ensure that the lawyer has all the information they need to assess your case and provide the best legal advice.
