BALTIMORE OFFICE IS THE WORST PLACE TO WORK. I interviewed for this company and was told that I needed to dress professionally and I did exactly that. I was only going to be a File Clerk but the way I dressed you would have thought I was an attorney myself. In the interview I expressed how I didnt like jobs with idle time. That I liked to work during my entire shift even sometimes through break if I had to. They assured me I was right for the position and hired me almost immediately. My first day the woman who was to train me came in wearing flip flops. In the coming days as I learned more responsibilities I realized that I would be walking around the office several times a day and be moving boxes from one area to another and then to the final pickup destination, I realized heels were not going to be comfortable for me. A few days of that and I carried a pair of slides with me. One day i decided to put them on as my feet couldnt take it anymore. The boss lady, well one of then Debra, who barely even wanted to speak and always turned her nose up at me when I said good morning, reported that I wore slides. I was coming to work doing everything I was supposed to do and for some reason these people seemed to hate me, for coming to help them. No one intorduced themselves, there was no warm welcome at all. I was supposed to stock the kitchen and when I did they acted as of they didnt even want me in the kitchen. it was so weird. There was no order or structure at all . When I had to put bunders together I had to look all over the place for the index tabs. Not to mention many of the secretaries sent files and indexes with errors that my attention to detail was able tocatch, and they made it as if I was worthy to catch a mistake. The entitlement was pathetic. There would be documents of up to 746 pages and id pront it and have the others come and wait by the printer as if I was supposed to stop my documents and let them print. False advertising, borderline racism, workplace gaslighting, disrespectful, unprofessional, DONT BE FOOLED BY THE FANCY OFFICE. THE ATTITUDES ARE TRASH My second week there someone drank my juice from the refrigerator and it was no way they thought it was theirs

Mala opción si no hablas ingles perfectamente o si eres latino. Estuve 2 años esperando ayuda y después de muchos intentos fallidos, me di por vencido. Bad option if you do not speak English perfectly or if you are Latino. I spent 2 years waiting for help and after many failed attempts, I gave up.

Long-Standing Client 5.0 stars Posted by Dina September 6, 2019 My experience with Darryl Kelley as my attorney was excellent, to say the least. He was very detailed oriented, professional, and he cared about how he handled my case. My case was pretty complexed and I had met with other attorneys, but, none had his patience and they wanted to just jump and take the case because of the amount of money involved. He was not like that, he listened to everything, asked me questions that the other attorneys did not, and he made me feel that I could get through this case. He was brutally honest. He put all of the cards on the table and I could actually see the fight I had before me was a bigger challenge than what the other attorneys painted, and I was thankful for his honesty. His honesty prepared me and helped me to have realistic expectations. He took his time and kept me in the loop on every move that he made. Speaking of time, he was on-time with handling my case. He made sure to file things on-time, he made sure we responded on time to the other side. I just had no worries. Going to court was scary, but, what helped me with that was his readiness. He has been in practice for over 15 years and it shows. He pays such close attention to detail that he can literally find a needle in a haystack. And that is what he did, he found points to my case that the other side could not overcome. Needless to say, I won my case and his fee stayed right where it was from the time that I retained him. Winning my case was a blessing. He won quite a bit more than I asked and still kept his fee the same. He included factors from my situation that the other attorneys did not even mention, but, he did the first time I met with him. This is what I say, Darryl Kelley knows his law. He knows how to fight for you in court and he does not fake anything, you get the truth about the matter. Who could not appreciate that? I referred others who were very satisfied with his handling of their case. And yes, I have utilized him for other legal matters and will continue to do so. If you want someone who knows the law and knows how to be on point with your case, Attorney Darryl Kelley is the prime choice.

Anne Hoke Law Firm was the attorney for my husband's workman's compensation case. They were upfront with us on all aspects of the case. Steve represented us well. He called us for information on what he needed and what would be litigated. He always met us when needed and spoke very well in terms we could understand. I would definitely use them again if needed.

Anne and Steve are great Attorneys, they're great at explaining everything to you. They will explain things until you fully understand right down to the littles thing. If you hire this law firm you must demand to work with Patty. She is the Heart and Soul of Anne Hoke's Law Firm. With every phone call or email you know she cares about you and your case. Also Patty treats you as a real person and not just another client with a case number. If anyone who reads this review and are in need of a Lawyer you can't go wrong with Anne and Steve because Patty is there looking out for you and this is why she is the Heart and Soul at this law firm. Plus she is under paid and if she was getting double what she makes now she stills under paid. Anne should give Patty a raise because she deserves one.

At first I was treated great. Now I leave several messages keep getting told “they are in meetings” communication is horrible. They don’t even apologize for them not returning calls. Not very presentable when we go to hearings. Then we need to tell the lawyer what to say. Don’t make this mistake and hire this law firm

Ms. Moses went above and beyond in helping me notarize some financial documents. She was efficient and thorough, and exercised extreme caution in responding to COVID-19 safety concerns. She proved to be a capable and caring attorney.

I wouldn’t recommend this lawyer to my worst enemy! Secretary doesn’t EVER return phone calls! It’s going on 2 years and he hasn’t settled an auto accident I had in July in 2022!! Extremely disappointed. I’ve now had to go to a different law office and start over. I feel like suing him for the anguish he’s caused me, just waiting and wondering and given lame excuses. I’m definitely filing a complaint with the Bar Association!

Throughout my SSDI case Mr. Neuworth didn't know how to answer questions I had and gave me incorrect information on what to do when dealing with SSA. Mr. Neuworth never provided proof that he appealed my case, which I asked him to. He later fired me as his client saying that he could not represent me because I "didn't qualify." When I asked for my records he refused to comply. It took me going to his office unannounced (after several emails) to get him to agree to give me my records, however when I first appeared he did not even know who I was. Because of Mr. Neuworth's lack of competency my SSDI case has been left in limbo and it has become extremely difficult to find other representation due to the now unusual nature of my case.

I was charged with harassment after I placed a call to my neighbor's place of work for her her multiple crimes against me. I was referred to Mr. Sauer as being a top criminal attorney despite nothing to back up that claim. Both attorneys told me I had to sell my home and I thought they were providing me with proper advice. Soon they got involved in the rapid sale of my home to appease my neighbor. When I called the Maryland States Attorney I was informed that my home had no relationship to the case what was one phone call. I was also told I would be given one year of no contact with my neighbor. Both attys were charging me despite that fact that the other was the referring attorney. The other attorney even got a real estate agent for the house. They told me I had to put a For Sale sign in front of my home as soon as possible. The other attorney then wanted to have me move into a senior living area in the county where he l iives. They were working together. I was so horrible I cannot describe what they were putting me through. It was evident that they were very happy about the sale value of my home because they discussed it in front of me. My husband was very ill and I was his caretaker. We were married until his 2017 death after 52 years of marriage. To be thrown out of my beautiful home was a nightmare. I didn't know where to turn. I finally fired both of them.

If you have a worker’s comp case, please stay away from this lawyer! I had brain injury and have severe post-concussion syndrome including depression. My first lawyer, Mr. James Nicoll was rude and made my condition worse each time I contacted him. It reached to a point that I could no longer bear it anymore. Finally, I decided to find a new counsel. I called a local law office and a lawyer in that office was nice. The lawyer said he knew Mr. Gay many years and he strongly recommended Mr. Gay to me. He praised Mr. Gay enthusiastically and said Mr. Gay is best lawyer in Baltimore. I was so delighted to hear that and switched to Mr. Gay without second thought. It turned out to be the worst mistake. Since he took over the case, not single time I called him, he was at his office. His secretary always told me to leave a message and would let Mr. Gay call me back. But he rarely did and rarely reply my emails. It seems he is too busy to stay in his office. I was very timid to speak out for fear that I was a difficult person because I already terminated my first lawyer. He has very limited knowledge of worker’s comp. He even thought that the accidental disability retirement would offset worker’s comp, which means he would not get paid because my retirement is more than the award. He basically stopped working on my case after I was award disability retirement in early May until I pointed to him in July that worker’s comp would offset my retirement, which means I would not get any award benefit (of course, this is extremely unfair to injured workers, I have lost 1/3 of my income in the past and will lose 1/3 in the future). Worker’s comp stopped paying one of my medications for my headache after IME in late April. I have to use my own insurance and asked Mr. Gay to contact IWIF. He had never contacted IWIF or my treating doctor regarding this matter. As a matter of fact, he had never contacted my treating doctors regarding my treatment or medications. I have to say he had done absolutely nothing on my case. I do not know what would happen to me if I did not get the retirement. Most likely I would kill myself because I can not go back to work and this lawyer could not do anything for my case. Worker’s comp system is extremely unfair to injured workers because any lawyer signed on would get part of the settlement even though they did absolutely nothing. The worst, you can not directly contact IWIF adjuster and everything has to go though your lawyer. When a lawyer is not responsive, it keeps you waiting and waiting. It increases your anxiety and depression.

I was recommended by an attorney within my state to Mr. Gerald Gay regarding a prospective law suit that I'm currently pursuing. Since my damages occurred in a different state from Mr. Gay's, he took the time out of his personal schedule to find me an attorney at a reputable law firm. Mr. Gay is extremely knowledgeable, patient and helpful. Each time that I left a voicemail message, he returned my calls promptly. In addition, he offered to provide me with further advice if the outcome of the other attorney is not favorable for me. Thank you Mr. Gay!!

I hired Lisa to help me fight for the safety of my four year old daughter and myself when my prominent then husband was abusing us both. I don’t know, to this day, if Lisa’s horrendous representation of me and my daughter was due to arrogance, incompetence, or apathy, or all of the above, but she is one of the main reasons I lost custody of all three of my children for seven months. She even had the gaul to try and charge me for her horrible performance but my new attorney told her I would not be paying her one more penny and she was lucky I wasn’t suing her. I understand that going before a judge, as corrupt as Judge Corderman, was terrifying but Lisa was so unprepared, she froze. I begged Lisa to ask Judge Corderman to recuse himself because of the Judge’s personal relationship to my husband’s father but she refused to do so, believing this would just make the Judge angry. The Judge was angry from the minute the hearing began and blocked vital evidence from both the Social Services rep who investigated my daughter’s abuse and the psychologist trying to speak up on my behalf. Even though this nightmare happened over 30 years ago, it is all coming to light AGAIN due to the serious trouble my ex-husband is in at the present moment because of his relationship with a former CLIENT, whose evidence is indisputable. My ex needed help 30 years ago and has continued to need help throughout the past years. I am working with the proper authorities now to help them with their investigation. I am also working on a podcast highlighting my story and the current battle taking place to get both the former client and her ex therapist the help they both need. There were so many “professionals”, attorneys, therapists and the Maryland Ethics Board governing Psychologists in the state of MD who failed to do thier jobs 30 years ago. Let’s hope, this time, the Ethics Board gets it right.

Joseph Trevino is a useless legal aid. He handle a minor possession charge for me. We agreed he would arrange for me to attend a diversion program and upon completion my record would be expunged. When my day in court came he was tardy, when they called my case I had to flag him down to get his attention to come in to the court room and litigate on my behalf. My friend and I faced the same charges we were together when the initial incident occurred. Why she was able to receive the same consequence I received with no legal was interesting. This put me under the impression that my consequence was standard and that with or without Joseph Useless Trevino I would have had the same option. Once I completed the program, I contacted Mr.Trevino to assist with the process of expunging my record. This man felt as though he should be paid in addition to the initial payment. I was under the impression that he would automatically file the paperwork because that was the actual work that was required. We exchanged some words, Trevino became very loud and unruly. He began to insinuate how he did me a favor because he was contracted through a legal aid service . Joseph expressed that he didn't need my measly $500, so I of course asked for a refund. Trevino rudely agreed, abruptly hung up the phone and then a week later sent me the paper work to file my own process to expunge. Apparently this simple routine procedure was to much for Joseph to take on or once he got paid he was not obligated to follow through. I am not to sure what his reasoning was but from my experience Mr.Trevino is not a man on his word, he has minimal ethics and is extremely temperamental. I would not recommend Joseph Trevino to anyone seeking legal counsel. You will probably either end up BROKE or in JAIL!

My retainer with Trevino is dated June 10, 1995, Case No. 95-14865, for a Chapter 13 bankruptcy. The retainer agreement stated that Trevino would "prepare a bankruptcy plan, provide financial advice, and deal directly with the creditors." Preparing a bankruptcy plan was a matter of accepting without question the 1st trust's terms. Providing financial advice was a matter of allowing me, his client, to waste $21,000 in the bankruptcy plan from the fall of 1995 to the fall of 1996 then to abandon me, his client, to the 1st trust's demands. Dealing directly with the creditors was a matter of going to secret meetings to which I, his client, was not invited and of which I, his client, was not informed and making secret deals the terms of which I, his client, was also not informed. I had to discover those terms on my own from the court. The 1st trust represented the escrow deficit in the bankruptcy plan as $2455 but demanded $361.67 per month in the plan. The $361.67 is $4340/year. The property taxes prior to 1995 had been $1700-$1800 per year. The homeowner's tax credit reduced the taxes in 1995 to $603 and in 1996 to $887. The insurance was $305. That was $75/mo and $100/mo. required for the escrow account, much less than the $361.67 demanded. Trevino repeatedly gave the mortgage lender over my protests the $361.67 demanded. The mortgage lender had collected for the escrow account $23/mo. thru all of 1992 and $68/mo. in 1993. The real deficit was more like $4500 not $2455. Trevino failed to discover and explain to me, his client, that the mortgage lender had completely mismanaged the escrow account over the previous five years and created the enormous deficit. The house was lost to auction in December 1996. By the time I , the client, discovered what had really happened it was too late to take any legal action. It was not a small matter. The cost in the end was more than $300,000. This is all well documented for anyone who want to see the record.

What an Insurance Lawyer Can Do for You

An insurance lawyer specializes in legal issues related to insurance policies and claims. These lawyers help individuals, businesses, and insurance companies navigate disputes involving insurance coverage, claim denials, bad faith claims, and policy interpretation. Insurance lawyers can represent policyholders who feel they've been unfairly denied coverage, or they can work on behalf of insurance companies to defend against fraudulent or inflated claims.

Whether you're filing a claim, disputing a denial, or dealing with complex coverage issues, an insurance lawyer can provide critical guidance and legal representation to protect your rights and ensure you receive the benefits you're entitled to under your policy.

When Should I Hire an Insurance Lawyer?

Hiring an insurance lawyer is advisable in several situations, particularly when disputes arise over insurance coverage, claim denials, or bad faith actions. Common reasons to hire an insurance lawyer include:

  • Denied insurance claims: If your insurance company denies your claim, a lawyer can help determine whether the denial was justified or if you should challenge the decision.
  • Bad faith insurance practices: If you believe your insurer has acted in bad faith, such as delaying payment or failing to properly investigate your claim, a lawyer can help you pursue legal action.
  • Underpaid claims: If the insurance company has offered less compensation than you believe your claim is worth, a lawyer can negotiate for a higher payout or file a lawsuit.
  • Coverage disputes: When there's ambiguity or disagreement about what your policy covers, a lawyer can provide clarity and advocate for your rights under the policy.
  • Business insurance claims: If you own a business and are dealing with commercial insurance claims (e.g., property damage, liability, or professional indemnity), a lawyer can help ensure your business receives proper coverage.
  • Third-party claims: If you're being sued for liability and your insurance company refuses to defend or indemnify you, an insurance lawyer can help enforce your coverage rights.
  • Appealing long-term disability claims: If your disability insurance claim has been denied, a lawyer can assist in gathering evidence and appealing the decision to get the benefits you deserve.

What Does an Insurance Lawyer Do?

An insurance lawyer provides a wide range of services to assist with insurance-related legal issues. These can include:

  • Reviewing insurance policies: A lawyer can review your insurance policy to ensure you understand your rights and obligations, as well as clarify what coverage is provided.
  • Filing insurance claims: Assisting with the preparation and filing of claims to ensure all necessary documentation is submitted correctly.
  • Challenging claim denials: If your claim has been denied, a lawyer can investigate the reasons for denial and file appeals or lawsuits to challenge the decision.
  • Litigating bad faith claims: Representing clients in bad faith insurance cases, where the insurer fails to act in good faith by unfairly delaying, denying, or underpaying a valid claim.
  • Negotiating settlements: Helping policyholders negotiate settlements with insurance companies to receive fair compensation for claims.
  • Defending against fraudulent claims: Representing insurance companies to defend against false or exaggerated claims filed by policyholders or third parties.
  • Handling disputes over policy language: Interpreting complex insurance policies and resolving disputes between the insured and the insurer regarding coverage limits, exclusions, and conditions.

How Are Insurance Lawyers Paid?

Insurance lawyers typically charge for their services in different ways, depending on the nature of the case and the type of insurance issue involved. Common payment structures include:

  • Contingency fee: For many policyholders disputing claim denials or underpayments, lawyers work on a contingency basis. This means the lawyer only gets paid if they win or settle the case, taking a percentage (usually between 25% and 40%) of the recovered amount.
  • Hourly rate: For more complex or ongoing legal issues, such as bad faith lawsuits or business insurance disputes, insurance lawyers may charge an hourly rate. This rate varies depending on the lawyer’s experience and location.
  • Flat fee: For simpler matters, such as reviewing an insurance policy or helping file a claim, some lawyers charge a flat fee for their services.
  • Retainer: For businesses or clients with ongoing legal needs, an insurance lawyer may require a retainer fee, which is an upfront payment for future services.

It’s important to clarify the fee structure with your lawyer during the initial consultation to avoid unexpected costs.

How Much Does an Insurance Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring an insurance lawyer depends on the complexity of the case, the lawyer's experience, and the payment structure. General cost estimates include:

  • Contingency fees: If your lawyer works on a contingency fee basis, you won’t pay any fees upfront, but the lawyer will take a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or judgment awarded.
  • Hourly rates: Hourly rates for insurance lawyers generally range from $150 to $500 or more, depending on the lawyer’s experience and location. Complex cases involving bad faith or high-value business claims may require significant hours, leading to higher legal costs.
  • Flat fees: For specific services, such as reviewing an insurance policy, lawyers may charge a flat fee ranging from $500 to $2,500, depending on the complexity of the task.
  • Retainers: Businesses or individuals seeking ongoing insurance legal services may pay a retainer, which can range from $5,000 to $20,000 or more, depending on the lawyer and scope of work.

Make sure to discuss costs and payment structures with your lawyer before proceeding to understand how much the services will cost.

Top Questions to Ask an Insurance Lawyer

Before hiring an insurance lawyer, it’s important to ask the right questions to ensure they are the right fit for your case. Here are key questions to ask:

  1. What experience do you have with insurance law?
Ensure the lawyer has specific experience handling cases involving your type of insurance, whether it’s auto, health, home, or business-related.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer works on contingency, hourly rates, or flat fees, and ask for an estimate of the total cost of your case.
  3. What is your success rate with insurance disputes?
Ask about the lawyer’s track record in winning or settling cases similar to yours.
  4. What are my chances of success?
A good lawyer will provide an honest assessment of your case’s strengths and weaknesses and outline the possible outcomes.
  5. How long will the process take?
Get an estimate of how long it will take to resolve your claim or dispute, as some cases can extend over months or even years.
  6. Will you handle my case personally?
In larger firms, junior attorneys or paralegals may handle some aspects of your case. Make sure you know who will be managing your case.

How to Check the Credibility of an Insurance Lawyer

To ensure you’re hiring a reputable insurance lawyer, take the following steps to verify their credentials and experience:

  • Verify their state bar license: Check with your state bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing with no disciplinary actions.
  • Review their experience in insurance law: Look at the lawyer’s website or professional profile to ensure they specialize in insurance law and have experience with cases like yours.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Search for reviews on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to see what previous clients have said about the lawyer’s expertise and professionalism.
  • Ask for references: A credible lawyer should be able to provide references from past clients who have dealt with similar insurance issues.
  • Check for industry memberships: Membership in organizations like the American Bar Association’s Tort Trial and Insurance Practice Section (TIPS) can indicate the lawyer’s focus on insurance law.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most out of your first consultation with an insurance lawyer, come prepared with the following documents and information:

  • A copy of your insurance policy: Bring the policy related to your claim or dispute so the lawyer can review the coverage details.
  • Any correspondence with the insurance company: Provide copies of letters, emails, or other communications between you and your insurer regarding the claim or denial.
  • Proof of claim and supporting documents: Bring any documentation you have submitted with your claim, including receipts, invoices, photos, medical records, or repair estimates.
  • List of questions: Prepare a list of questions you want to ask about your case, the legal process, and the potential outcomes.
  • Timeline of events: Be ready to provide a clear timeline of the incident that led to the claim and any steps you’ve taken with your insurance company.

By preparing thoroughly for your consultation, you can ensure that the lawyer has all the information they need to assess your case and provide the best legal advice.
