I have made every payment before the due date. I got on the portal today to pay and they have deactivated my account number so I can’t make a payment online or through the telephone payment option. I keep calling and they will not call me back. Last month they said I didn’t make a payment. When I told him I would send him the receipt and my bank statement of proof, he all the sudden saw in the system that I paid. At first I read the reviews and figured that people were just mad because they had to pay money back. I made my payments with confidence that I would have no issues. I was mistaken.

My experience with Greenstone Legal Group was excellent and heartwarming. They seemed to have suffered multiple attacks after I started reacting to Capital One's [not known for hiring the best people] harassment campaign. The conflict with Capital One was published on December 31st, 2023. Also on that day, it seemed like the entire past of the US Army had possessed my spirit to chant the best possible cadence my lungs could muster. It's funny how there was a Green Beret on the bus as I joked about calling Capital One and threatening them for abusing their late payment fees immediately after I signed my contract.

Please, if you read this-and many other- review stating that Greenstone is terrible and not to get involved, BELIEVE THEM!!! Greenstone Legal Group is nothing but a scam, 100%. Yo make a long story short, we entered into an agreement with them to help negotiate some debt settlement and after 15 months of paying into the program…..nothing. We received several offers to settle or debt from the creditors which we promptly turned over to Greenstone only to have them do nothing. Then we received a summons from court after discovering that one of the creditors was suing us. We turned that promptly over to them also. Their whole spiel is that they are there to protect you from collection efforts while trying to negotiate settlements. Well they failed. Just recently we received a letter from the court stating that the creditor had won their case against us for “failure to contact the court or respond to the summons”. So basically, Greenstone did nothing! They keep about half the money that you send as “payment for services rendered” however, it is plain to see that they don’t actually render anything but lies. We have since canceled our agreement with them. We did get some money back but only about half of what we put in. And we negotiated directly with the creditors and had deals to pay half the original debt in one day. Wonder why Greenstone couldn’t have done that. I implore you to stay far far away from this group. They will tell you nothing but lies and rob you of your money.

I understand where this is coming from, but whenever I tried to contact this office, I was only contacted twice by Debrah... I tried to work out a payment plan, but was unable to hand over a bank account number and I got about a month later, after I had called and my attorney had called, neither time did I get a response until I called myself multiple times, even then, she was blunt, unforgiving and pretty jack booting cut throat pirate like pretty much every cut rate "give me or else" collection company, honestly, if I could, I would disbar her for even lending her name to a firm like this... There was no communication... Which lead me to have no chance to defend myself or my position to a judge, just as Im sure they wanted it.

For over 8 years I have been associated and working with this attorney on more than one case. I have worked with him on child custody proceedings, personal injury proceedings and child support proceedings. In the very beginning I had a good outcome and was somewhat pleased with the outcome, however as the years have gone by, this attorney has neglected to respond to voice-mails, messages, and has let me almost lose the chance to take care of a very important matter due to statute of limitations. Luckily, I spoke with someone that advised me to fire him and retain new counsel which is what I have done. My new attorney is taking care of me case, my medical bills that were not getting paid, are finally getting paid. My house that was falling apart due to my injury is finally getting back on track and I have help to get through my day to day business. Please be advised that this attorney does not care about what is going to happen to you and your family, please be advised that you will be treated poorly as less than a human when dealing with this attorney, and realize that he thinks he is not going to help you. He will not go the extra mile for his clients.

My appointment was at 10:00 A.M I waited in the lobby until 10:15 and he still did not come out and get me so my fiancé and I left. Part of my disability is anxiety and being out of my home, which I explained to him over the phone before we set up the meeting time. I can not hire an attorney that is not prompt and not considerate of my disabilities in the first place.

I called this attorney looking for representation for the litigation i am in and all's he had an interest in is trying to argue and not only did we end the conversation which no way what so ever would I pick this man what so ever to be in my corner when all's he wants to know is what any attorney I've talked to "what did they say"??? Really?? All's that tells me is how imcompaten this attorney is that he can't make a judgement of his own and wants to know what everyone else says. Then after us ending the call he wants to call my number back trying to argue some more about what? I would never ever give this man the satisfaction of coming near a case when he doesn't even know a response besides ask you what did he say? What did she say? No knowledge what so ever besides wanting to Rgue "very closed minded"!!!!!!

After hiring Curt Benson & leaving my photos, videos & receipts, he started dodging my calls, emails, even the ATG requests for communication. During this time, an agent from the insurance company showed up at my home while Toxic mold testing was being done after being told they could no longer be here as they had been through my home over 2 dozen times & it had been agreed upon that they had had enough time to get whatever they needed by then. The agent threw me to the ground, which he was found guilty of assault, by a jury. Also, the mold inspectors refused to allow him in as they had no gear needed for him to enter. So Curt Benson was told of the assault upon me & reminded of the agreement for the insurance agent to stay away & the mold inspectors refusal to allow anyone in & against our wishes & the wishes of the toxic mold inspector he still told the City Police to let it go & allow him to enter. When I brokered a deal with the insurance company months later, there were 2 checks sent to Curt Benson for me. When I went to retrieve my checks, Curt Benson refused to give me either check unless I would fraudulently sign my husbands name & give the lesser of the 2 checks to him. I actually have an eye witness who was there when this entire situation went down. I chased after Curt Benson for months trying to retrieve my case file after firing him, finally having to have another attorney help me. When I did retrieve it, my photos, videos and receipts were all missing. Somehow, the insurance company I was in this lawsuit with, came up with all my photos that had went missing from my case file. Later I learned Curt Benson had actually done a lot of business with this same insurance company before going into private practice. He as well had worked with the same attorney who the insurance company was using in my case. Never once informing us, even after I specifically asked him, if he knew any of them. I later learned that both Curt Benson & the insurance company`s attorney had worked in the same law office from about 1986 until about 1992. I had asked Curt Benson the first day I met him if he had ever worked with or knew anyone from this insurance company as that same morning before our first meeting, an agent from the insurance company called me asking about my appointment with Curt Benson. I asked him how the insurance company had known of our appointment. He claimed he had never worked with them nor did he know any of them & he stated he certainly had not told anyone our our meeting. After hiring another attorney, we were awarded a settlement, however, it was over turned with the Mi. Court of Appeals. We later learned his wife is a Mi. Court Of Appeals Judge. I am not hostile or spiteful here in the telling of my experience. I actually learned a lot through all of this. And as I told our second attorney, this was never about the money, but the way in which we were treated by the insurance company. I only wish Curt Benson had of understood us. And the fact that we were awarded the settlement, no matter that it was over turned, we won by public opinion, is all we wanted to begin with.

Although our case ended in a SMALL settlement ... Mr Shrader is unmotivated, aloof, unorganized and overall incompetent. He will mail you paperwork needing to be filled out an will have very little contact with you after the fact. He promotes settling as he has very little actual courtroom tact. You will need to remind him multiple times who you are and the details of your case, either due to his poor memory or inefficient record keeping skills .... He will have a closer personal relationship with the insurance companie's attornies while you are treated like a stranger. His only contact with you will be with regard to getting a feel for how little you will settle for in an effort to maintain the business relationships with your oppositions representation! Do NOT hire this person if your case is important to you, as it will be meaningless to Mr. Robert Shrader .

What an Insurance Lawyer Can Do for You

An insurance lawyer specializes in legal issues related to insurance policies and claims. These lawyers help individuals, businesses, and insurance companies navigate disputes involving insurance coverage, claim denials, bad faith claims, and policy interpretation. Insurance lawyers can represent policyholders who feel they've been unfairly denied coverage, or they can work on behalf of insurance companies to defend against fraudulent or inflated claims.

Whether you're filing a claim, disputing a denial, or dealing with complex coverage issues, an insurance lawyer can provide critical guidance and legal representation to protect your rights and ensure you receive the benefits you're entitled to under your policy.

When Should I Hire an Insurance Lawyer?

Hiring an insurance lawyer is advisable in several situations, particularly when disputes arise over insurance coverage, claim denials, or bad faith actions. Common reasons to hire an insurance lawyer include:

  • Denied insurance claims: If your insurance company denies your claim, a lawyer can help determine whether the denial was justified or if you should challenge the decision.
  • Bad faith insurance practices: If you believe your insurer has acted in bad faith, such as delaying payment or failing to properly investigate your claim, a lawyer can help you pursue legal action.
  • Underpaid claims: If the insurance company has offered less compensation than you believe your claim is worth, a lawyer can negotiate for a higher payout or file a lawsuit.
  • Coverage disputes: When there's ambiguity or disagreement about what your policy covers, a lawyer can provide clarity and advocate for your rights under the policy.
  • Business insurance claims: If you own a business and are dealing with commercial insurance claims (e.g., property damage, liability, or professional indemnity), a lawyer can help ensure your business receives proper coverage.
  • Third-party claims: If you're being sued for liability and your insurance company refuses to defend or indemnify you, an insurance lawyer can help enforce your coverage rights.
  • Appealing long-term disability claims: If your disability insurance claim has been denied, a lawyer can assist in gathering evidence and appealing the decision to get the benefits you deserve.

What Does an Insurance Lawyer Do?

An insurance lawyer provides a wide range of services to assist with insurance-related legal issues. These can include:

  • Reviewing insurance policies: A lawyer can review your insurance policy to ensure you understand your rights and obligations, as well as clarify what coverage is provided.
  • Filing insurance claims: Assisting with the preparation and filing of claims to ensure all necessary documentation is submitted correctly.
  • Challenging claim denials: If your claim has been denied, a lawyer can investigate the reasons for denial and file appeals or lawsuits to challenge the decision.
  • Litigating bad faith claims: Representing clients in bad faith insurance cases, where the insurer fails to act in good faith by unfairly delaying, denying, or underpaying a valid claim.
  • Negotiating settlements: Helping policyholders negotiate settlements with insurance companies to receive fair compensation for claims.
  • Defending against fraudulent claims: Representing insurance companies to defend against false or exaggerated claims filed by policyholders or third parties.
  • Handling disputes over policy language: Interpreting complex insurance policies and resolving disputes between the insured and the insurer regarding coverage limits, exclusions, and conditions.

How Are Insurance Lawyers Paid?

Insurance lawyers typically charge for their services in different ways, depending on the nature of the case and the type of insurance issue involved. Common payment structures include:

  • Contingency fee: For many policyholders disputing claim denials or underpayments, lawyers work on a contingency basis. This means the lawyer only gets paid if they win or settle the case, taking a percentage (usually between 25% and 40%) of the recovered amount.
  • Hourly rate: For more complex or ongoing legal issues, such as bad faith lawsuits or business insurance disputes, insurance lawyers may charge an hourly rate. This rate varies depending on the lawyer’s experience and location.
  • Flat fee: For simpler matters, such as reviewing an insurance policy or helping file a claim, some lawyers charge a flat fee for their services.
  • Retainer: For businesses or clients with ongoing legal needs, an insurance lawyer may require a retainer fee, which is an upfront payment for future services.

It’s important to clarify the fee structure with your lawyer during the initial consultation to avoid unexpected costs.

How Much Does an Insurance Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring an insurance lawyer depends on the complexity of the case, the lawyer's experience, and the payment structure. General cost estimates include:

  • Contingency fees: If your lawyer works on a contingency fee basis, you won’t pay any fees upfront, but the lawyer will take a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or judgment awarded.
  • Hourly rates: Hourly rates for insurance lawyers generally range from $150 to $500 or more, depending on the lawyer’s experience and location. Complex cases involving bad faith or high-value business claims may require significant hours, leading to higher legal costs.
  • Flat fees: For specific services, such as reviewing an insurance policy, lawyers may charge a flat fee ranging from $500 to $2,500, depending on the complexity of the task.
  • Retainers: Businesses or individuals seeking ongoing insurance legal services may pay a retainer, which can range from $5,000 to $20,000 or more, depending on the lawyer and scope of work.

Make sure to discuss costs and payment structures with your lawyer before proceeding to understand how much the services will cost.

Top Questions to Ask an Insurance Lawyer

Before hiring an insurance lawyer, it’s important to ask the right questions to ensure they are the right fit for your case. Here are key questions to ask:

  1. What experience do you have with insurance law?
Ensure the lawyer has specific experience handling cases involving your type of insurance, whether it’s auto, health, home, or business-related.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer works on contingency, hourly rates, or flat fees, and ask for an estimate of the total cost of your case.
  3. What is your success rate with insurance disputes?
Ask about the lawyer’s track record in winning or settling cases similar to yours.
  4. What are my chances of success?
A good lawyer will provide an honest assessment of your case’s strengths and weaknesses and outline the possible outcomes.
  5. How long will the process take?
Get an estimate of how long it will take to resolve your claim or dispute, as some cases can extend over months or even years.
  6. Will you handle my case personally?
In larger firms, junior attorneys or paralegals may handle some aspects of your case. Make sure you know who will be managing your case.

How to Check the Credibility of an Insurance Lawyer

To ensure you’re hiring a reputable insurance lawyer, take the following steps to verify their credentials and experience:

  • Verify their state bar license: Check with your state bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing with no disciplinary actions.
  • Review their experience in insurance law: Look at the lawyer’s website or professional profile to ensure they specialize in insurance law and have experience with cases like yours.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Search for reviews on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to see what previous clients have said about the lawyer’s expertise and professionalism.
  • Ask for references: A credible lawyer should be able to provide references from past clients who have dealt with similar insurance issues.
  • Check for industry memberships: Membership in organizations like the American Bar Association’s Tort Trial and Insurance Practice Section (TIPS) can indicate the lawyer’s focus on insurance law.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most out of your first consultation with an insurance lawyer, come prepared with the following documents and information:

  • A copy of your insurance policy: Bring the policy related to your claim or dispute so the lawyer can review the coverage details.
  • Any correspondence with the insurance company: Provide copies of letters, emails, or other communications between you and your insurer regarding the claim or denial.
  • Proof of claim and supporting documents: Bring any documentation you have submitted with your claim, including receipts, invoices, photos, medical records, or repair estimates.
  • List of questions: Prepare a list of questions you want to ask about your case, the legal process, and the potential outcomes.
  • Timeline of events: Be ready to provide a clear timeline of the incident that led to the claim and any steps you’ve taken with your insurance company.

By preparing thoroughly for your consultation, you can ensure that the lawyer has all the information they need to assess your case and provide the best legal advice.
