Marty Pujolar handled a difficult civil litigation claim for our agency and won our case every step of the way. He prevailed on our behalf through Superior Court, winning a Motion for Summary Judgment Dismissal, a Motion for Reconsideration, and a subsequent appeal. The attorney for the other side was a well-known and well-respected litigator, and Marty represented us with distinction. He kept me informed at every step, made time for my questions and concerns, and patiently prepared us for each turn of events. He has excellent people skills, keen intelligence, and a sense of humor. Highly recommend!

I engaged Allen for a claim against a flooring manufacturer after exhausting all other options. The moment I started working with Allen, I knew my claim would be in good hands. He leaves no stone unturned and constantly asks the right questions to ensure he's constructed the strongest possible argument in the client's favor. In addition to his tenacity and attention to detail, he is sincerely a very compassionate and kind individual. Filing a claim can be an extremely stressful experience. Working with Allen removed the bulk of my worry because he proved that I could trust his expertise and counsel. I highly recommend Allen without reservation.

Despite having been through five suits on a related matter with representation from various regional firms, Richard was the first attorney who was able to strategize a response to the insurer that resulted in a global settlement to all claimants. He has an uncanny understanding of how insurance companies think and of their processes and motivations. I've retained most of the major New York City, Chicago, and San Francisco firms over the years, and still never seen the "bang for the buck" that Richard delivered. In any future matter involving insurance, I'd pay his retainer out of my own pocket just to know he was representing us. He is superb.

There is no one who knows more about insurance coverage than Richard Dykstra. He is experienced and knowledgeable in this area and as brilliant and persuasive in the courtroom as he is on paper or in one on one discussion. He provides his clients with a thoughtful, realistic and complete analysis and is very accessible and willing to answer questions. I highly recommend him to anyone with an insurance coverage problem who wants intelligent, innovative and ethical representation. He has no peer when it comes to the intricacies of this very difficult area of the law.

As I stated in the Title of this review...Mari Cava, "An Excellent Attorney" doesnt do him Justice- He Rocks! The Best Defense Attorney I have ever Met!, If Only there were more attorneys who took as much time with his clients, and I know it wasnt just me, he had a very full plate , and had many clients as it seems the system is overwhelmed with people who need a Public Defenser . And I am sure there are those who use the cities tax dollars of hard working people of King County to pay for some people who are so ungreatful, If they actually had to pay for a law firm attorney and be billed $500/hr. Some abuse the system and try to get away with it because they are being supported by the tax payers dollars.Anyways Mario is extremely honest and genuine and down to earth and I think who every is lucky enough to have him as their attorney should feel very greatful as they are in the best legal hands you will find,, I highly recommend Mario, He makes sure all his clients get a fair shake.

It is difficult to find words to describe Mario Cava. I cannot say enough about how fantastic he is. "Brilliant" would be the first description that comes to mind. I could not have hoped for a better defense attorney. With his help, I was able to finally hear two wonderful words. "Not Guilty". The whole way I felt that Mario was truely defending me. He looked after my best interests. Mario Cava is simply outstanding. He handled my case with great care and attention and made me feel very confortable while keeping me thinking realistically, throughout the whole trial process. He informed me of what would happen throughout the trial step by step, paying attention to every detail. With all the other cases that he has to deal with on a daily basis, he kept on TOP of everything. I was extremely impressed and grateful to have such competent representation. How he handled and presented himself and my position in the courtroom seemed nothing short of masterful. The way I could see him taking down so many notes and covering all the important and relevant points while omitting others was the work of true expert. A skilled legal stategist and tactician with a realistic professional attitude, who is very ethical, personable and extremely likable, who will defend your position with powerful and persuasive passion. This is Mario Cava, my attorney, who I was so proud and fortunate to have had represent me. "Super Mario", Thank you.

In the end a small case that seemed to take every wrong turn was settled with a fair outcome. They stuck by me and fought for what was right against a large corporation that has endless resources and time. I recently went on a trial, and Mr. Munish Bharti represented me. I will say that he alone went against the prosecution team. He is very respectful and explains everything that I was not clear at. I was amazed at how knowledgeable he is. He pretty much knows the law in and out. He is well organized. Whenever the Judge asked anything, he had a copy ready for the prosecutor and the Judge. He is very straightforward and always prepared to defend his client. When the Judge told me that Mr. Munish did work on my case Thanksgiving day I was speechless. When he took my case, he was very determined. He knew about my case in and out. He treated me with respect. All I can say that he will be my only Attorney going forward.

I had several charges that were more than 20 yrs old that I wanted vacated or expunged for current job opportunities this was a long and drawn out process because I live out of state and trying to find records for these charges was near impossible Munish took the extra time to track down these records and argue my requests to the courts by personally going to several different Counties. . Mr. Hurst is the rare combination of a great lawyer and astute businessman. Combined with his fearlessness and truly deep knowledge of the industry he serves, Mr. Hurst will find a solution to your problem. Few know the maritime industry as well as Mr. Hurst, an expertise he has garnered over a lifetime of exposure. Fewer still know the relevant law as intimately as Mr. Hurst, a deep well of knowledge he has accumulated in his nearly ten years in practice. Virtually no one possess those skills in combination with Mr. Hurst’s innate business acumen. Of all the things that make Mr. Hurst an effective legal advocate, his ability to harness his skills in service of your broader business goals is what sets him apart. What that means is, if you hire Mr. Hurst, you get more than a lawyer. You get a problem solver who does not lose sight of the bigger picture and narrowly focus on the legal issues. Mr. Hurst understands business and he understands people. He knows when to wield the carrot and when to brandish the stick. He is in the trenches with you and he is a pleasure to work with throughout the typically unpleasant legal process. I can’t recommend him highly enough.

Barry Abbott has been engaged by the companies and banks for which I have worked on several occasions to advise on legal and business matters. These were premier companies and banks, and required the best in advice and counsel. The matters were complex, and the areas of law were challenging. Barry delivered outstanding counsel and the performance of the team of attorneys he assembled and led met or exceeded requirements in each instance. Given the scope and complexity of certain of these matters, it was important to maintain constant control and communication regarding the issues and the fees. Barry communicated timely and effectively, both with good news and disappointments. The first of these engagements was in the mid-1980's and have continued through the present. His technical knowledge (and reputation) are second to none.

Zac was hired by our association to guide us through a difficult and complex case. He served as part of a team that worked with our association on a regular basis. His expertise, specifically on matters of insurance were top notch. He did a great job explaining complicated insurance concepts in a way that we as a Board could understand so we could make educated decisions. He and the rest of the legal team also would attend meetings with owners to help clarify the more challenging issues and answer questions. This was a huge support of the association Board. Being entangled in a lawsuit is sort of like finding yourself on the River Styx in the ancient Greek underworld. As you descend deeper into the depths of the lawsuit, you will realize the legal world is not like the land of the living. It’s dark, it’s scary, it has its own set of rules, you’re out of your element, and totally dependent on your lawyer-guide to deliver you to the other side. This is the point where you will either be really thankful you picked a great guide, or really regretful you didn’t. Brittney Tubbs was my lawyer for about a year and a half on an employment discrimination case with my former employer. It’s hard to articulate just how great of a lawyer she is, because there are so many ways in which she is great. She has a mind like a steal trap. She learned every aspect of my case to the point where she remembered the details better than even I did. The greatest thing about Ms. Tubbs though was the peace of mind her legal representation gave me. Instead of me staying up till 2am analyzing the case, she did. Instead of me having to worry about what the other side was going to try and do or say, she did. I’ve never been involved in a legal case before and she explained everything to me every step of the way. I valued her insight because it was always reasonable and trustworthy. And she’s somebody you’d actually like in real life. While she’s tough in depositions (watching her grill your opponent will feel like justice in and of itself), she’s not a jerk about it. The legal process is an ugly, stressful endeavor but with Ms. Tubbs you won’t feel like you’ve sold your soul to get justice. My case ended in a resolution I was happy with and I would highly recommend her work!

Chris has effectively handled a variety of business matters for me. Most recently, he successfully negotiated a residential eviction in Seattle. This was by no means a simple matter because of eviction moratorium restrictions, winter eviction restrictions, conflicting laws, and other barriers. The process went much more smoothly than anticipated. Further, his fees are extremely reasonable. He also doesn't hesitate to refer when outside his areas of expertise. He will expend considerable effort to find a quality referral. You will be pleased with his work.

Christopher worked with me on a business contract breach where the customer owed my company significant money. Engaging in legal action was daunting as my company is a small boutique size firm, up against a large public company. Litigation costs for them would have been a drop in the bucket, but for my company, it would have been monumental. I brought the case because the contract was clear on the terms and conditions. What gave me confidence and conviction was Christopher Reed's experience and capabilities as an attorney. He is highly recommended for the following reasons: -Out of the gate, professional and interested in my case. -He listened and has the business savvy to connect the dots of the issue quickly. He made sure he communicated the issue back so we were in sync. He let me know what type of data he needed in support of my position, and we tackled more evidence as the issue was pulled into different directions. I felt it was an efficient and organized process—money well spent. -Professional and timely in all of his communications, even to let me know, there's a delay from the opposing counsel. I was never left on hold wondering what the next action item was or who owned it. When they were stonewalling, he showed appropriate assertiveness to get them to want to engage but always unwavering in his ethics. Christopher had my full confidence. -He was strategic with me in discussing the negotiation, and had great execution in presenting our position and arguments to opposing counsel. He answered my questions swiftly and helped me understand their arguments and how we could overcome their position. -Christopher has excellent intuition, interpersonal, legal and negotiating skills. If x language in the agreement didn't work for the opposing side, he had another workaround to achieve our goal in the language. His writing skills are impressive. -I believe his ability to be firm yet fair, and knowledgeable of my contract and the law, was vital in achieving not only their attention and engagement, but a 90% payment on the total due! (Yeah!) He far exceeded my initial expectation which was to be largely ignored by this public company. I fully expected they’d draw it out so I incurred significant legal expenses and gave up. I was going to be content with half of the total amount they owed. I highly recommend Christopher Reed. He’s an excellent attorney. He loves the legal field, problem solving, writing, negotiating and helping me navigate the laws without getting too deep into the weeds. He doesn't waste your time, he presents options and pros/cons. He tells you the honest facts. He’ll fight for you. He guided and taught me so I was understanding both the process, our strategy and application of the law. I have to believe the East Coast big city opposing attorney was (secretly) equally impressed with Christopher. The arguments he presented gave the opposing counsel strong data to take back to his customer that compelled them to settle substantially higher than the puny settlement they originally proposed. I not only highly recommend Christopher but will use him again in the future to create business contracts, and also if a situation/issue arises where I need legal counsel.

A fair settlement with the previous contractor seemed very hard for me as English is my second language. But I was lucky to have support from Christopher. For the whole process, he focused on how I “ Feel” and what I “Expect”. Language didn’t become a barrier because we were sharing the exact same goal. Thanks to Christopher effort, we had a fair deal in such a short term. I highly recommend him!

It was a bit of a unique scenario, one that John himself indicated he had not seen previously, and throughout the entire process was communicative, professional, informational and assertive which in the end, worked out as favorably as possibly. Jonathan helped handle a case where the plaintiff was impacted in their car and sued myself and another car driver for damages. The results were the best that could be expected - very minimal damages on my part, and with only a couple appearances required of me. Mr. Missen showed decorum, poise, and a cheerful disposition during the entire process, which no doubt helped the results turn out as they did. He was knowledgeable without being pushy, and this came across in deposition and arbitration. I was pleased to have his support and skill in the case, and would want him on the case again if a similar situation arose.

We were in a complicated lawsuit where Robert Meyers came highly recommended by our longstanding attorney for his specialized skills in technical business litigation. Meyers lived up to his reputation and gave us straight forward, sometimes hard to swallow, but always honest advice. His strategy worked really well and he litigated the other side to submission and got us a favorable settlement without the cost of trial. Robert Meyers is smart, honest, hard working, always kept us well informed and he does not tolerate nonsense. He was really good in court too.

Bob provided all of our legal services for the formation of Inti, Inc., a new Delaware C Corporation. In addition to excellent advice on company structure and other start-up considerations, Bob drafted our Articles of Incorporation, Corporate Bylaws, and Stockholder Agreement - all uniquely tailored to our needs. I and my co-founder found the process incredibly smooth and educational. Bob's attention to detail really is unsurpassed, and he sets a high bar both for professionalism and for thoroughness. He is also a pleasure to work with, which made a big difference as this process was new to me and my partner. We'll enthusiastically recommend Bob to other early-stage entrepreneurs, and will look forward to the opportunity to work with him again.

Susannah is absolutely top notch, and I could not be happier that I had her on my side in dealing with a complicated and emotional insurance case involving several large insurance companies. She set out a very clear strategy and action plan, worked tirelessly building a compelling and comprehensive case, was extremely vigilant about keeping my costs down while still leaving no stone unturned, and brought out just the right details and exactly the right experts to help us to prevail. She tolerated my frustrations, occasional tears and endless questions with grace, kindness, and wisdom. She was able to keep both sides focused and professional, and negotiated a mediation with a very favorable outcome for me and my family. I can honestly say that she got our lives back on track after a devastating fire, for which I am profoundly grateful. I hope to never go through another lawsuit, but if I do, I will immediately turn to Susannah Carr.

Susannah Carr is one of my "unsung heroes." To a layperson, finding oneself in complex litigation is intimidating and frightening. To then face "push back" from insurers is overwhelming. Susannah was there for me. Her competence, empathy, caring and professionalism gave me the confidence to navigate this terrain. She is worthy of trust and can be counted on. Having her on my side empowered me against these powerful foes. What greater recommendation could there be?

I work in the Credit Department for a material supplier. I have used Drew Chisholm as our attorney for many, many years. Drew knows the complexities of all the lien laws in private jobs (both commercial and residential), as well as the many hurdles in asserting claims on Federal and State Projects. He knows when and how to assert those rights and gets us paid. He is also very creative and adept at crafting agreements so our customers pay us. Drew is personable, practical and resolves our legal issues.

In my first conversation with him, I could tell he had heard and understood the gravity of my concerns and was extremely intelligent. He understood and clarified my goals, provided good counsel and advice, and had a clear grasp on the law as well as the strengths and weaknesses of my case. As an attorney myself, I have high expectations for other attorneys, and he definitely met them. I knew I could trust his advice, skills, and advocacy. Highly recommend.

I'm on the Board of Fire Commissioners for a small local fire district and we recently got into a disagreement with our insurer that was going to cause a lot of problems with our budget. Frank came in, looked at the policy, and came up with a creative approach that convinced the insurer to change its position -- and we didn't even have to file a lawsuit! He did it efficiently, was always responsive to our questions, and in the end, saved us hundreds of thousands of dollars. I can't say enough good things about him.

Scott is by far the best attorney that I have ever engaged. In my job, I have worked with dozens of attorneys over a very wide range of legal actions and disputes. Each attorney has strengths and weaknesses but Scott's performance in my case was head and shoulders above any other attorney that I've encountered. As defense counsel, Scott brought a great deal of energy and intellect to my case. He kept the main points in clear focus while he prepared an extremely thorough brief and courtroom presentation with a surprising level of attention to detail. We had less than two weeks to prepare for trial from engagement to the actual arbitration but Scott was able to anticipate the opposing counsel's every move after devoting excessively long hours to research and preparation. The stakes were very high (millions of dollars) and Scott was able to obtain a good result. Not everything we wanted because that seldom happens in arbitration--but the plaintiffs knew they were in trouble from the opening statement. They were actually forced on the defensive and had to change their entire approach to the case after the first day of the trial. Scott's clients initially engage him because of his excellent reputation, successful track record and the tremendous amount of talent, dedication and creativity that he brings to each case. They become lifelong clients because of his concern, his passion, his dry humor and the reassurance that they experience even during the grim circumstances that surround legal disputes. I strongly recommend him.

Kari Lester is a great attorney! I felt that I was part of her team verses on the sideline watching. She kept me informed through the whole process. When you meet her she is petite and unassuming but when she is in court she becomes this feisty attorney that takes no crap (excuse my french). She responds to emails quickly and if she is unable to answer your questions in a timely manner she will have someone from her great team of paralegals reach out to you. I would recommend her to my family and friends. She is Intelligent, energetic, personable, and feisty all the things you look for in an lawyer.

What an Insurance Lawyer Can Do for You

An insurance lawyer specializes in legal issues related to insurance policies and claims. These lawyers help individuals, businesses, and insurance companies navigate disputes involving insurance coverage, claim denials, bad faith claims, and policy interpretation. Insurance lawyers can represent policyholders who feel they've been unfairly denied coverage, or they can work on behalf of insurance companies to defend against fraudulent or inflated claims.

Whether you're filing a claim, disputing a denial, or dealing with complex coverage issues, an insurance lawyer can provide critical guidance and legal representation to protect your rights and ensure you receive the benefits you're entitled to under your policy.

When Should I Hire an Insurance Lawyer?

Hiring an insurance lawyer is advisable in several situations, particularly when disputes arise over insurance coverage, claim denials, or bad faith actions. Common reasons to hire an insurance lawyer include:

  • Denied insurance claims: If your insurance company denies your claim, a lawyer can help determine whether the denial was justified or if you should challenge the decision.
  • Bad faith insurance practices: If you believe your insurer has acted in bad faith, such as delaying payment or failing to properly investigate your claim, a lawyer can help you pursue legal action.
  • Underpaid claims: If the insurance company has offered less compensation than you believe your claim is worth, a lawyer can negotiate for a higher payout or file a lawsuit.
  • Coverage disputes: When there's ambiguity or disagreement about what your policy covers, a lawyer can provide clarity and advocate for your rights under the policy.
  • Business insurance claims: If you own a business and are dealing with commercial insurance claims (e.g., property damage, liability, or professional indemnity), a lawyer can help ensure your business receives proper coverage.
  • Third-party claims: If you're being sued for liability and your insurance company refuses to defend or indemnify you, an insurance lawyer can help enforce your coverage rights.
  • Appealing long-term disability claims: If your disability insurance claim has been denied, a lawyer can assist in gathering evidence and appealing the decision to get the benefits you deserve.

What Does an Insurance Lawyer Do?

An insurance lawyer provides a wide range of services to assist with insurance-related legal issues. These can include:

  • Reviewing insurance policies: A lawyer can review your insurance policy to ensure you understand your rights and obligations, as well as clarify what coverage is provided.
  • Filing insurance claims: Assisting with the preparation and filing of claims to ensure all necessary documentation is submitted correctly.
  • Challenging claim denials: If your claim has been denied, a lawyer can investigate the reasons for denial and file appeals or lawsuits to challenge the decision.
  • Litigating bad faith claims: Representing clients in bad faith insurance cases, where the insurer fails to act in good faith by unfairly delaying, denying, or underpaying a valid claim.
  • Negotiating settlements: Helping policyholders negotiate settlements with insurance companies to receive fair compensation for claims.
  • Defending against fraudulent claims: Representing insurance companies to defend against false or exaggerated claims filed by policyholders or third parties.
  • Handling disputes over policy language: Interpreting complex insurance policies and resolving disputes between the insured and the insurer regarding coverage limits, exclusions, and conditions.

How Are Insurance Lawyers Paid?

Insurance lawyers typically charge for their services in different ways, depending on the nature of the case and the type of insurance issue involved. Common payment structures include:

  • Contingency fee: For many policyholders disputing claim denials or underpayments, lawyers work on a contingency basis. This means the lawyer only gets paid if they win or settle the case, taking a percentage (usually between 25% and 40%) of the recovered amount.
  • Hourly rate: For more complex or ongoing legal issues, such as bad faith lawsuits or business insurance disputes, insurance lawyers may charge an hourly rate. This rate varies depending on the lawyer’s experience and location.
  • Flat fee: For simpler matters, such as reviewing an insurance policy or helping file a claim, some lawyers charge a flat fee for their services.
  • Retainer: For businesses or clients with ongoing legal needs, an insurance lawyer may require a retainer fee, which is an upfront payment for future services.

It’s important to clarify the fee structure with your lawyer during the initial consultation to avoid unexpected costs.

How Much Does an Insurance Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring an insurance lawyer depends on the complexity of the case, the lawyer's experience, and the payment structure. General cost estimates include:

  • Contingency fees: If your lawyer works on a contingency fee basis, you won’t pay any fees upfront, but the lawyer will take a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or judgment awarded.
  • Hourly rates: Hourly rates for insurance lawyers generally range from $150 to $500 or more, depending on the lawyer’s experience and location. Complex cases involving bad faith or high-value business claims may require significant hours, leading to higher legal costs.
  • Flat fees: For specific services, such as reviewing an insurance policy, lawyers may charge a flat fee ranging from $500 to $2,500, depending on the complexity of the task.
  • Retainers: Businesses or individuals seeking ongoing insurance legal services may pay a retainer, which can range from $5,000 to $20,000 or more, depending on the lawyer and scope of work.

Make sure to discuss costs and payment structures with your lawyer before proceeding to understand how much the services will cost.

Top Questions to Ask an Insurance Lawyer

Before hiring an insurance lawyer, it’s important to ask the right questions to ensure they are the right fit for your case. Here are key questions to ask:

  1. What experience do you have with insurance law?
Ensure the lawyer has specific experience handling cases involving your type of insurance, whether it’s auto, health, home, or business-related.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer works on contingency, hourly rates, or flat fees, and ask for an estimate of the total cost of your case.
  3. What is your success rate with insurance disputes?
Ask about the lawyer’s track record in winning or settling cases similar to yours.
  4. What are my chances of success?
A good lawyer will provide an honest assessment of your case’s strengths and weaknesses and outline the possible outcomes.
  5. How long will the process take?
Get an estimate of how long it will take to resolve your claim or dispute, as some cases can extend over months or even years.
  6. Will you handle my case personally?
In larger firms, junior attorneys or paralegals may handle some aspects of your case. Make sure you know who will be managing your case.

How to Check the Credibility of an Insurance Lawyer

To ensure you’re hiring a reputable insurance lawyer, take the following steps to verify their credentials and experience:

  • Verify their state bar license: Check with your state bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing with no disciplinary actions.
  • Review their experience in insurance law: Look at the lawyer’s website or professional profile to ensure they specialize in insurance law and have experience with cases like yours.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Search for reviews on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to see what previous clients have said about the lawyer’s expertise and professionalism.
  • Ask for references: A credible lawyer should be able to provide references from past clients who have dealt with similar insurance issues.
  • Check for industry memberships: Membership in organizations like the American Bar Association’s Tort Trial and Insurance Practice Section (TIPS) can indicate the lawyer’s focus on insurance law.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most out of your first consultation with an insurance lawyer, come prepared with the following documents and information:

  • A copy of your insurance policy: Bring the policy related to your claim or dispute so the lawyer can review the coverage details.
  • Any correspondence with the insurance company: Provide copies of letters, emails, or other communications between you and your insurer regarding the claim or denial.
  • Proof of claim and supporting documents: Bring any documentation you have submitted with your claim, including receipts, invoices, photos, medical records, or repair estimates.
  • List of questions: Prepare a list of questions you want to ask about your case, the legal process, and the potential outcomes.
  • Timeline of events: Be ready to provide a clear timeline of the incident that led to the claim and any steps you’ve taken with your insurance company.

By preparing thoroughly for your consultation, you can ensure that the lawyer has all the information they need to assess your case and provide the best legal advice.
