We have used Dean Brinkley for quite some time now as our primary legal advisor. He is very thorough, very easy to work with and actually has a heart. As our business has grown, he has stayed up to date to be able to help advise/counsel us. As far as we are concerned, we have found our lifetime business and personal lawyer.

I have been to Porya multiple times over the years for multiple accidents. He has always been prompt, patient, and informed about every step of the process. He checks in to make sure you are content with any medical treatments that are being administered and shows his appreciation for choosing him to help you by always pursuing your needs in a settlement.

I hired attorney Kimberly Hall to represent our family in a complicated parental termination/step-parent adoption case. Not only was Ms. Hall professional and nonjudgmental, but she was also responsive and extremely competent. I also found the rates she charges to be competitive as well. Everyone on her team was gracious and courteous with every interaction I had with them. Ms. Hall referred me to a social worker for my home inspection who had less than desirable reviews, but I discovered that Ms. Hall was correct in her referral as this social worker was fair and provided fast service. I would highly recommend using Soulsby Law for any family matter that requires representation. They will fight hard for you and give you honest feedback every step of the way.

I've worked extensively with Kimberly Painter Hall in my child custody case. She's the epitome of professional yet very personal. She has shown that I'm more than just a client and more a member of a team and has treated me like family member of her firm. Kimberly's attention to my needs has been unrivaled and she has demonstrated that she's not just hired to represent me, but that she actually cares about my case and she took personal ownership of it. Her attention to details and facts always made me feel good. She was involved in my case daily, even when working with other clients. Kimberly went above and beyond in terms of staying in contact with me and relaying details to me and never left me hanging or feeling like I didn't know what was going on. She presented options ranging from subtle to aggressive, cheaper to more costly and always left me with her personal recommendation and gave me the options to determine how aggressively I wanted to move. Kimberly advised me ethically and morally when it came to all actions against my child's other parent. She made sure that I always acted in a manner that portrayed myself positively to the court so that I didn't bring any negative attention to myself when the custody battle got heated. She's a firm believer in Fathers Rights and agreed with my cause and believed in my goals. I highly recommend Kimberly Painter Hall for your family court and legal needs!

My wife was rear ended while driving my truck. She was stopped at a red light and hit by a senior citizen. Her insurance company was totally unresponsive to our requests so we had to hire an attorney. Chadwick wrote a few emails, made few calls and the insurance company started listening. They immediately called and took our statements; they became very cooperative. They took care of all our expenses and because my truck was totaled, we were able to get a new truck to replace it. You can never know how your injuries will heal, or if you will completely heal, but so far, she has healed well. Overall, it was unfortunate that we had to go through this, but Chadwick helped us through this inconvenience seamlessly. I would recommend Chadwick if you need help in this area.

I was suprised that she would meet with me and not have a secretary or paralegal perform the consultation. I was pleased with her service and would highly recommend her service to anyone who needs an intelligent, dependable and tough lawyer.

Michael C. Wynne represented my company regarding a defaulted promissory note that was due us. Mike & his law firm handled themselves in a very professional and ethical manner and were successful in getting the other party to perform on the note in a timely manner. The communications utilized throughout, both verbal and written, were timely, direct & well prepared yet also gave due consideration to the other party which, in my opinion, greatly helped with the negotiation process. I felt that the appropriate amount of time was applied towards my case to obtain resolution and appreciate that no one just “left the meter running” regarding legal charges. I can highly recommend Mr. Wynne and his law firm, Wynne & Smith, for any business related legal representation.

I have had the pleasure of working with Mr. Martin Arguello for the last 4 plus years and he is a very knowledgeable attorney. He has an extensive background assisting homeowners and business owners with their fight against their insurance carriers to get the benefits to which they are entitled under their insurance policies. Before law school Mr. Arguello was an insurance adjuster. Who better to fight against the insurance companies than one of their own. I trust Mr. Arguello, and his team of attorneys, so much that I have asked that he represent me on a couple of cases in the past.

I was referred to Todd Smith by another attorney, so it was sheer luck that I ended up with him. I had no idea about what to expect or what to ask with regard to hiring an attorney for my potential case. I had no worries though, as the entire experience was 100% positive. I quickly became reassured and confident that I was getting the best possible legal advice and representation, due to the professionalism, attention to detail, and experience exhibited by Todd and his staff. Through every step of the process, I was kept informed, I got immediate response to my questions, and I was always given a timeline of what to expect, and when. If I needed an explanation regarding legalese in a document or discussion, it was done with patience and respect towards me. I always felt that Todd and his staff were accessible to me at any time. I would recommend Todd Smith to ensure that you have the best chance for a good outcome, whether your issue is settled out-of-court or resolved in the courtroom.

Shannon was incredibly helpful when I was dealing with a wedding photographer that had not responded for months and then had not delivered services as promised. Shannon was quick to review all contracts and correspondence and send a letter to said business. When the business owner refused to sign for the letter, Shannon did research to find additional address and email addresses in attempts to deliver the letter. Shannon helped me negotiate with the business owner, clearly explained my options to me and helped advise me on the best course of action. Shannon was incredibly helpful, polite and responsive. I am incredibly thankful to Shannon for all her help with this matter.

Our family and friends have been going to him since my grandfather met him while he was working in the District Attorneys office in Dallas back in the 70s. His fees for divorce and criminal cases are always very reasonable and he answers his own phone or calls us back when he gets back from court. He never takes more than our share in injury cases and pays the doctors and expenses first. Some lawyers just lop their share off the top leaving clients with the least amount. He gets all his clients from old clients. He also gives us free advice and phone numbers to call for help, like 211.

A few of us neighbors had a minor complaint against our builder. We tried for months (18) to rectify the issue, but got nothing from the builder’s attorneys. We felt it was necessary to contact an attorney to handle our complaint. We wanted someone that displayed ethics and intergrity. Gregg Brown came highly recommended. Though not in his normal area of expertise, his instant knowledge and understanding of our situation provided us with confidence that we would come to a swift and amicable solution. Within weeks our issue was resolved with positive results.

David had been placed as my lawyer on a case against my ex boyfriend who had spanked my daughter so hard it left bruses, and CPS.CPS had ended up placing the kids with my mother even though i had nothing to do with what had happened. David took the case in strides he was very up front with a plan and never backed down. he always reasured me he would do everything he could to make sure my kids came home to me. The second to last court hearing CPS threw a curve ball at us, they were in agreement for the kids to come home and then in front of the judge they backed out of that and David took over and faught for me he never backed down. he put in a motion and got me the kids back a month later. he was amazing he never complained with the late night calls, emails and questions. he was great if i was to ever have another problem i would definitely want him on my side.

What an Insurance Lawyer Can Do for You

An insurance lawyer specializes in legal issues related to insurance policies and claims. These lawyers help individuals, businesses, and insurance companies navigate disputes involving insurance coverage, claim denials, bad faith claims, and policy interpretation. Insurance lawyers can represent policyholders who feel they've been unfairly denied coverage, or they can work on behalf of insurance companies to defend against fraudulent or inflated claims.

Whether you're filing a claim, disputing a denial, or dealing with complex coverage issues, an insurance lawyer can provide critical guidance and legal representation to protect your rights and ensure you receive the benefits you're entitled to under your policy.

When Should I Hire an Insurance Lawyer?

Hiring an insurance lawyer is advisable in several situations, particularly when disputes arise over insurance coverage, claim denials, or bad faith actions. Common reasons to hire an insurance lawyer include:

  • Denied insurance claims: If your insurance company denies your claim, a lawyer can help determine whether the denial was justified or if you should challenge the decision.
  • Bad faith insurance practices: If you believe your insurer has acted in bad faith, such as delaying payment or failing to properly investigate your claim, a lawyer can help you pursue legal action.
  • Underpaid claims: If the insurance company has offered less compensation than you believe your claim is worth, a lawyer can negotiate for a higher payout or file a lawsuit.
  • Coverage disputes: When there's ambiguity or disagreement about what your policy covers, a lawyer can provide clarity and advocate for your rights under the policy.
  • Business insurance claims: If you own a business and are dealing with commercial insurance claims (e.g., property damage, liability, or professional indemnity), a lawyer can help ensure your business receives proper coverage.
  • Third-party claims: If you're being sued for liability and your insurance company refuses to defend or indemnify you, an insurance lawyer can help enforce your coverage rights.
  • Appealing long-term disability claims: If your disability insurance claim has been denied, a lawyer can assist in gathering evidence and appealing the decision to get the benefits you deserve.

What Does an Insurance Lawyer Do?

An insurance lawyer provides a wide range of services to assist with insurance-related legal issues. These can include:

  • Reviewing insurance policies: A lawyer can review your insurance policy to ensure you understand your rights and obligations, as well as clarify what coverage is provided.
  • Filing insurance claims: Assisting with the preparation and filing of claims to ensure all necessary documentation is submitted correctly.
  • Challenging claim denials: If your claim has been denied, a lawyer can investigate the reasons for denial and file appeals or lawsuits to challenge the decision.
  • Litigating bad faith claims: Representing clients in bad faith insurance cases, where the insurer fails to act in good faith by unfairly delaying, denying, or underpaying a valid claim.
  • Negotiating settlements: Helping policyholders negotiate settlements with insurance companies to receive fair compensation for claims.
  • Defending against fraudulent claims: Representing insurance companies to defend against false or exaggerated claims filed by policyholders or third parties.
  • Handling disputes over policy language: Interpreting complex insurance policies and resolving disputes between the insured and the insurer regarding coverage limits, exclusions, and conditions.

How Are Insurance Lawyers Paid?

Insurance lawyers typically charge for their services in different ways, depending on the nature of the case and the type of insurance issue involved. Common payment structures include:

  • Contingency fee: For many policyholders disputing claim denials or underpayments, lawyers work on a contingency basis. This means the lawyer only gets paid if they win or settle the case, taking a percentage (usually between 25% and 40%) of the recovered amount.
  • Hourly rate: For more complex or ongoing legal issues, such as bad faith lawsuits or business insurance disputes, insurance lawyers may charge an hourly rate. This rate varies depending on the lawyer’s experience and location.
  • Flat fee: For simpler matters, such as reviewing an insurance policy or helping file a claim, some lawyers charge a flat fee for their services.
  • Retainer: For businesses or clients with ongoing legal needs, an insurance lawyer may require a retainer fee, which is an upfront payment for future services.

It’s important to clarify the fee structure with your lawyer during the initial consultation to avoid unexpected costs.

How Much Does an Insurance Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring an insurance lawyer depends on the complexity of the case, the lawyer's experience, and the payment structure. General cost estimates include:

  • Contingency fees: If your lawyer works on a contingency fee basis, you won’t pay any fees upfront, but the lawyer will take a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or judgment awarded.
  • Hourly rates: Hourly rates for insurance lawyers generally range from $150 to $500 or more, depending on the lawyer’s experience and location. Complex cases involving bad faith or high-value business claims may require significant hours, leading to higher legal costs.
  • Flat fees: For specific services, such as reviewing an insurance policy, lawyers may charge a flat fee ranging from $500 to $2,500, depending on the complexity of the task.
  • Retainers: Businesses or individuals seeking ongoing insurance legal services may pay a retainer, which can range from $5,000 to $20,000 or more, depending on the lawyer and scope of work.

Make sure to discuss costs and payment structures with your lawyer before proceeding to understand how much the services will cost.

Top Questions to Ask an Insurance Lawyer

Before hiring an insurance lawyer, it’s important to ask the right questions to ensure they are the right fit for your case. Here are key questions to ask:

  1. What experience do you have with insurance law?
Ensure the lawyer has specific experience handling cases involving your type of insurance, whether it’s auto, health, home, or business-related.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer works on contingency, hourly rates, or flat fees, and ask for an estimate of the total cost of your case.
  3. What is your success rate with insurance disputes?
Ask about the lawyer’s track record in winning or settling cases similar to yours.
  4. What are my chances of success?
A good lawyer will provide an honest assessment of your case’s strengths and weaknesses and outline the possible outcomes.
  5. How long will the process take?
Get an estimate of how long it will take to resolve your claim or dispute, as some cases can extend over months or even years.
  6. Will you handle my case personally?
In larger firms, junior attorneys or paralegals may handle some aspects of your case. Make sure you know who will be managing your case.

How to Check the Credibility of an Insurance Lawyer

To ensure you’re hiring a reputable insurance lawyer, take the following steps to verify their credentials and experience:

  • Verify their state bar license: Check with your state bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing with no disciplinary actions.
  • Review their experience in insurance law: Look at the lawyer’s website or professional profile to ensure they specialize in insurance law and have experience with cases like yours.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Search for reviews on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to see what previous clients have said about the lawyer’s expertise and professionalism.
  • Ask for references: A credible lawyer should be able to provide references from past clients who have dealt with similar insurance issues.
  • Check for industry memberships: Membership in organizations like the American Bar Association’s Tort Trial and Insurance Practice Section (TIPS) can indicate the lawyer’s focus on insurance law.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most out of your first consultation with an insurance lawyer, come prepared with the following documents and information:

  • A copy of your insurance policy: Bring the policy related to your claim or dispute so the lawyer can review the coverage details.
  • Any correspondence with the insurance company: Provide copies of letters, emails, or other communications between you and your insurer regarding the claim or denial.
  • Proof of claim and supporting documents: Bring any documentation you have submitted with your claim, including receipts, invoices, photos, medical records, or repair estimates.
  • List of questions: Prepare a list of questions you want to ask about your case, the legal process, and the potential outcomes.
  • Timeline of events: Be ready to provide a clear timeline of the incident that led to the claim and any steps you’ve taken with your insurance company.

By preparing thoroughly for your consultation, you can ensure that the lawyer has all the information they need to assess your case and provide the best legal advice.
