Let me preface this by saying there was a language barrier which made it very difficult for me to understand the person I was speaking with, I am sure she had an equally difficult time. First, I called in to ask about a consultation to see if I have a case, and possible representation. She asked what type of case, which I explained and then she asked for more information. I attempted to explain it, I could tell she was not understanding what I was trying to convey as she asked me the same question more than once. She told me they don't offer free consultations, which I was fine with but when I asked her how much she hesitated and told me she could not tell me how much a consultation would be. I was confused and asked her how would I find that out. She told me someone would call me back within 2 business days and took my number. As we said our goodbyes she said if no one called me back in 2 days no one could help me. I then confused, asked her if I should call back after the two days then if I didn't hear back. She told me no, if no one called me back it meant no one could help me. I wanted to make sure I understood her correctly and said so if no one calls me back they won't do a consultation? She said I was correct. I said so you can't give me a cost for a consultation, then you tell me if no one calls me back that means you can't help me? So without knowing the details of the case, you not understanding what I am saying and being unable to provide me a price for a consultation so an ATTORNEY could explain what rights I may or may not have, you are telling me if I don't receive a call back it means no one can help me??? I told her this was the most unprofessional experience I have ever had with a law firm and I have 13 years of legal background in one area or another. I told her not to worry about calling me back. This is absurd. I hope someone from the firm does read this and call me back and ask for more details (as there are plenty I am not going to share on this platform, yet) as I hope this not an accurate representation of their firms professionalism or the way they treat potential clients. If not, I hope it is corrected, a good percentage law referrals are done via word of mouth! This was pretty appalling behavior and she needs trained and/or this firm needs training and some standard SOP's developed and implemented as soon as possible.

Bethany Stickradt did a fantastic job helping our family protect and navigate the complex assisted living facility issues for our handicapped uncle, who has cerebal palsy. He has lived at the facility in Newark happily for 18 years. Then it was sold and the new management tried to kick him out two times and harassed our family. There was no change in his level of care. He did not fit their marketing image. Bethany handled our appeal to the State. Thankfully they backed down. We are so very grateful we had Bethany representing us and used the Reese Pyle Meyer Law Firm.

Working with Jason was a pleasure. I found it easy to work with him because he's so clear and organized while working on my dad's estate. There was a lot of emotion and it was a very hard time for our family. He was compasionate and I was so grateful. I guess that's why them call them counselors. Thank you Jason

I had two separate cases with her at one time. The outcome for one was BS. The other case she did very little and she used the money for the other case. She failed to keep me updated on the time and money spent. I finally receive it after requesting it many times. Now I owe more?! She is a joke of an atty and don't know how she is still one. She's rude, she does not return calls, you can't get ahold of her, she's worthless! I will NEVER refer her to anyone. I didn't even want to give her a star.

I went through heather for my divorce . And honestly I didn’t really need a lawyer just guidance on filing out the paperwork . I knew my ex wasn’t going to appear so there wasn’t going to be a fight . I paid heather in full up front . After 8 months I finally got a court date . Due to covid I understood that . My divorce has been final since October and I am now getting notices from the court that my filing fees haven’t been paid . I contacted another party from her office who adviced me it would be taken care of immediately, however obviously it wasn’t because I have now received another notice and just contacted the courts to learn it still haven’t been taken care of . I don’t even care that she didn’t appear at court and sent another lawyer in her place . Like I said there was no real need for a lawyer in my case . But atleast make sure my filing fees that I have already paid are taken care of . I have messaged many times in regards to this matter and have received no response .

Heather is BY FAR the most honest Lawyer! She doesn’t play around & gets the job done. Went out of her way to make sure I felt comfortable with certain things and made sure everything was pin-pointed in every angle. Wouldn’t of wanted any other person to represent me with my kiddos. Totally recommend

I thought the closing went smooth. They were able to schedule right away. The only reason I am not giving 5 stars is that after we closed and had the keys to the house we got a call while they were recording the title at the courthouse that they found many tax leans in my name which is very common and they had to verbally confirm it was not me for all these lean addresses. Maybe I don’t know the process, and if so I will update my rating, but thought they should have known that ahead of time. When getting a clean title I thought this should not have put us in panic mode.

Do not recommend this attorney to represent you in a custody case. Doesn’t respond to emails or text messages. Poor judgment, indolent. Doesn’t file reports in a timely manner. Waits til day of court to send his reports in, no time for rebuttal. Lacks empathy or compassion. Sends innocent children to live with a known child abuser with no regard for their safety. I hope you can sleep at night knowing what you did. If you are appointed this attorney to represent your custody case, better refuse and pay for your own lawyer to represent you.

Beth Mertz has to be one of the worst people I have ever needed help from in my life, I am now being harassed by people in the community and I have all the information that I was screwed over by her, and the prosecutor did not give me all of my evidence. Beth did not do her job or she was working with the prosecutor, how did she not get the information from the officer that gave me the tickets that said in her own words that she never seen anything or left her office I knew I was screwed when she said "what was my defense?" I didn't think I had to do her job, my defense is her or that is what I assumed anyway. I also believe she was the one calling the news so I looked bad. I have never seen the News take any time on a case like mine. The justice system is not running how it should be ran to punish people so severely who are honest, hard working trying to follow the law.

Let this be a written statement against Mrs. Lian Stryker for unprofessional behavior and misrepresention. (And I'm saying this after everything got dismissed) I have nothing to gain by saying that after calling her to say thank you and ask for information she decided to play victim for my curiosity on reason for dismissal. She said she helped me but I never got an idea with what. She said the case was dismissed on their end. After telling her I'll call her back at a better time she got angry and told me she would not be representing me further.... she needs to be striked Update on 1/10/24 she never actually got anything dismissed and missi representation. Despite providing substantial documentation to support our claims, our concerns have been consistently disregarded by State Farm Fire and Casualty, leading us to contemplate submitting complaints against the attorney representing State Farm Fire and Casualty to The Ohio Board of Professional Conduct and The Office of Disciplinary Counsel. State Farm's actions have demonstrated a pattern of bad faith practices, including a failure to conduct a thorough investigation into our corporation and the unauthorized disclosure of confidential policy information to a third party without proper authorization. These actions have not only hindered the progress of our insurance claim but also infringed upon our rights as a small African American-owned business. Specifically, we would like to highlight the following grievances: 1. **Failure to Conduct a Proper Investigation**: We contend that State Farm neglected to conduct a comprehensive investigation into our insurance claim, focusing erroneously on individual personnel rather than engaging with all relevant stakeholders as required by Ohio regulations. 2. **Lack of Personal Contact**: Despite my pivotal role within the corporation and clear documentation listing my responsibilities, State Farm failed to make any direct contact with me during their investigation, breaching standard investigative protocols. 3. **Allegations of Discrimination**: Our status as an African American-owned business raises concerns of potential discrimination in State Farm's handling of our claim, with actions suggesting bias in their decision-making processes. Additionally State Farm Fire and Casualty company disclosed policy information to an unauthorized party without any consent from any officer, partner or shareholder of our corporation. (Attached evidence) Please view the attached sworn under oath statements attached specifically answer number 7 "7. Please admit or deny that you, Deborah McSurley, were given notice that on or about August 16, 2022, Claim Number 35-29N7-27R had been denied. ANSWER: Admit. I contacted State Farm’s corporate office and they advised me I was not a named insured and that the claim had been denied." 4. **Engagement with Black Lives Matter**: In response to perceived injustices, we have reached out to the Black Lives Matter organization to seek support and potentially raise awareness of our case within the community and beyond. 5. **Attempts to Resolve the Issue**: Multiple efforts to engage with State Farm's attorney, Lori Thomson, have been met with silence, prompting us to explore alternative avenues of addressing these issues. 6. **Potential Legal Actions**: Considering the gravity of the situation, we are prepared to pursue further legal actions against State Farm for their alleged misconduct, including filing formal complaints with relevant regulatory bodies. Sincerely, Mr. Marquis L. Kimble Director of Operations/Co-Founder The HCV Distribution Corporation Inc.

To the distinguished members of The Ohio Disciplinary Counsel, I wish to express my gratitude for the valuable services provided by your esteemed organization, which enables consumers to address professional misconduct. I am writing to share my experience regarding State Farm Fire and Casualty's attorney, Ms. Lori Thomson. I have personally experienced violations of my rights, including racial discrimination and defamation of character, at the hands of State Farm Fire and Casualty. Additionally, the rights of our protected class organization, The HCV Distribution Corporation, have been consistently disregarded by Ms. Thomson. The attached document provides evidence of State Farm Fire and casualty's breach of our company's private policy information by sharing it with an unauthorized third party. Despite clear violations of my rights and those of our company, Ms. Thomson has failed to respond adequately to our requests for resolution. She has also instructed us not to contact State Farm Fire and Casualty regarding these violations, yet she continues to disregard our attempts to seek a resolution. In February 2024, we sent a certified letter to State Farm Fire and Casualty seeking a settlement for these violations. Although it was received and signed for, it was ultimately disregarded. The response from Ms. Thomson included personal threats of criminal charges for our attempts to address these violations. I am reporting Ms. Thomson to the professional board of conduct due to suspected racial discriminatory actions, which parallel the treatment we have received from State Farm Fire and Casualty. Despite providing sworn evidence of the violations and rights infringements, Ms. Thomson has ignored our requests and resorted to threatening me personally with criminal charges, despite her client's violation of my personal rights and those of our corporation, The HCV Distribution Corporation Inc. We are urgently seeking your involvement to address these violations. I would like to emphasize that I am a registered minister in the state of Ohio and a sworn public servant notary in Lucas County with a clear background and record. It is both unprofessional and a violation of my rights for Ms. Thomson to threaten filing a police report against me for seeking answers and a resolution. We have filed complaints with various authorities, including The Ohio Department of Insurance, The Ohio Civil Rights Commission, The Ohio Attorney General's Office, The Ohio Supreme Court, The Ohio Office of Disciplinary Counsel, the Better Business Bureau, The Office of the Honorable Governor Mike DeWine, The Consumer Protection Bureau, The Federal Trade Commission, and the Office of Ohio Senator Sherrod Brown. I kindly ask for your immediate involvement and appropriate actions to address these actions committed against me personally and against our corporation, The HCV Distribution Corporation. I have attached relevant documents for your review and appreciate your assistance in addressing this serious and ongoing matter. Sincerely, Minister Marquis L. Kimble Public Servant, Co-Founder, Director of Operations The HCV Distribution Corporation INC.

Corinne is professional, dedicated, and patient. She took on my case after a few hearings had already been held, and quickly got up to speed for the final pre-trial hearings. She then won my trial in front of the magistrate, the appeal to the judge, and then the appeal to the 10th District Appeals Court! She is very experienced and knowledgeable, and she always answers my questions and explains anything I do not know or understand about the case and the process. Corinne has always been honest about her expectations for the magistrate or judge, and the pros and cons of the case – but she is also kind and understanding about my perspective. She really cares about clients, and it shows in everything she does.

Corinne has been by far a horrible experience. My first time ever needing an attorney and I hope to never need one again if this is the experience. Originally she presented herself to be someone who genuinely wanted to help me but turned out being someone who most likely just wanted the $2500 retainer. She was never available for me when she said she would be. She never kept her word. She had an excuse for every mess up. She missed my court hearing. This was all in just a about a little over a month time frame of me hiring her. I would not ever recommend to anyone. Five months later she has yet to withdraw herself from my case and stopped communicating with me as well. She does not even deserve one star honestly 😢

David Abromowitz was the lawyer I hired to help set up my IV Hydration and Vitamin Infusion business. He charged me quadruple what was discussed (quoted me 3.5-5K - charged me over 20K and I paid a final amount of OVER 12k - astronomical amount) and took 3 times as long to complete the job. Three other nurses in my coaching group (NursePreneurs) had similar experiences with him and another nurse, coincidentally, came forward today from a different IV Hydration/Vitamin Infusion business reporting the same story. RNs - be warned! He is dishonest and will overcharge you! I notified the BBB but his response was "I'm sorry she didn't understand". You and I both know the truth, Mr. Abromowitz. You were intentionally dishonest. It's people like you that give lawyers a bad name. All these RNs trusted you, I trusted you. Despite your lawyerly response to this review - you and I know the truth.

She then claimed to have sent me several emails and demanded that I answer her (her way to get rid of me as a client) to sever her services; at this point, I realized it was best to cut my losses and get a lawyer who cared. Please don't waste your time with this one; she is a high-priced waste of your time.

What a Juvenile Law Lawyer Can Do for You

A juvenile law lawyer specializes in legal issues involving minors, including those facing criminal charges, child welfare matters, or status offenses (like truancy or curfew violations). Juvenile law lawyers aim to protect the rights of minors and advocate for rehabilitation rather than punishment in criminal cases. They also help families navigate child custody, abuse, neglect cases, and other legal matters involving children.

If your child is facing criminal charges, or you are involved in a child welfare case, a juvenile law lawyer can help protect your child’s rights and work toward the most favorable outcome.

When Should I Hire a Juvenile Law Lawyer?

You should consider hiring a juvenile law lawyer in the following situations where minors are involved in legal matters:

  • Juvenile criminal charges: If your child is accused of a crime, such as theft, assault, or drug offenses, a juvenile lawyer can represent them in juvenile court, advocating for leniency and alternatives to detention.
  • Delinquency proceedings: A lawyer can help navigate delinquency charges, defending your child’s rights and seeking rehabilitative outcomes like counseling, probation, or diversion programs instead of incarceration.
  • Status offenses: If your child has committed a status offense, such as truancy, running away, or underage drinking, a lawyer can help you resolve these issues in juvenile court, often focusing on rehabilitation rather than punishment.
  • School disciplinary issues: If your child is facing school suspensions, expulsions, or other disciplinary actions, a lawyer can help protect their educational rights and challenge any unfair or unlawful school policies.
  • Child protective services (CPS) investigations: If your family is being investigated by CPS for alleged abuse, neglect, or dependency, a lawyer can represent you and protect your child’s rights throughout the investigation.
  • Custody disputes: A lawyer can help in cases involving child custody or guardianship disputes, ensuring the child’s best interests are prioritized and advocating for the child’s rights.
  • Emancipation: If your child seeks legal emancipation from their parents or guardians, a lawyer can assist in navigating the legal process and help the child understand their rights and responsibilities.

Hiring a lawyer early in the legal process ensures that your child’s rights are protected and that the best possible outcomes are pursued.

What Does a Juvenile Law Lawyer Do?

A juvenile law lawyer provides various services to help minors and their families navigate the legal system. Their responsibilities often include:

  • Representing minors in court: A lawyer will represent your child in juvenile court, advocating for their rights and seeking rehabilitative outcomes rather than punitive measures.
  • Filing motions and legal paperwork: The lawyer handles all necessary legal filings, including petitions, responses, and motions to dismiss charges or suppress evidence.
  • Negotiating with prosecutors: In some cases, a lawyer can negotiate plea deals or diversion programs that prevent the child from having a permanent criminal record or serving time in detention.
  • Advising on rehabilitation programs: Juvenile law lawyers often focus on alternatives to incarceration, such as counseling, community service, or probation, helping minors avoid long-term legal consequences.
  • Handling CPS and child welfare cases: If your family is involved in a CPS investigation or child welfare case, the lawyer can advocate for your child’s safety and well-being, ensuring that their rights are upheld.
  • Defending minors against school discipline: A lawyer can help challenge unfair or excessive disciplinary actions taken by schools, ensuring that your child’s educational rights are protected.
  • Advising families on legal options: A lawyer will explain the juvenile legal process to families, offering advice on the best legal strategies and what to expect during the case.

How Are Juvenile Law Lawyers Paid?

Juvenile law lawyers typically charge for their services based on the complexity of the case and the time involved. Common payment structures include:

  • Hourly rate: Many juvenile law lawyers charge by the hour, with rates ranging from $150 to $500 or more, depending on the lawyer’s experience and location.
  • Flat fee: For simpler cases, such as status offenses or school disciplinary hearings, a lawyer may charge a flat fee that covers all legal services related to the case.
  • Retainer: In more complex cases, such as defending against serious criminal charges or handling a long-term CPS investigation, a lawyer may require a retainer, which is an upfront payment billed against as they work on the case.
  • Sliding scale or pro bono services: Some juvenile law lawyers offer sliding scale fees based on income or may provide pro bono (free) services for families who cannot afford to pay full legal fees, especially in cases involving child welfare or delinquency.

Discuss the lawyer’s fee structure during your consultation to understand the total cost and payment options.

How Much Does a Juvenile Law Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a juvenile law lawyer depends on the complexity of the case, the lawyer’s experience, and the time involved. General cost estimates include:

  • Juvenile criminal cases: Legal fees for defending a minor in juvenile criminal cases can range from $2,000 to $10,000 or more, depending on the severity of the charges and whether the case goes to trial.
  • Status offenses: For cases involving minor offenses such as truancy or underage drinking, legal fees typically range from $1,500 to $5,000.

Make sure to get a clear estimate of costs during your initial consultation to ensure you understand the full scope of fees and services.

Top Questions to Ask a Juvenile Law Lawyer

Before hiring a juvenile law lawyer, it’s important to ask key questions to ensure they have the experience and expertise to handle your child’s case effectively. Key questions to ask include:

  1. What experience do you have with juvenile law cases?
Make sure the lawyer has handled cases similar to yours, whether it’s juvenile delinquency, child custody, or CPS investigations.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer charges by the hour, offers flat fees, or requires a retainer. Ask for a detailed estimate of the total cost.
  3. What is the likelihood of success in my child’s case?
Ask the lawyer for an honest assessment of the case, including potential challenges and likely outcomes.
  4. How long will the process take?
Juvenile cases can vary in duration, so ask the lawyer how long they expect the process to last and what factors might affect the timeline.
  5. Will you personally handle my child’s case?
In larger firms, junior attorneys or paralegals may handle parts of the case. Make sure you know who will be managing the case and representing your child in court.
  6. What rights does my child have?
Ask the lawyer to explain your child’s legal rights, including their rights during police questioning, school disciplinary actions, and court proceedings.

How to Check the Credibility of a Juvenile Law Lawyer

To ensure you are hiring a reputable juvenile law lawyer, take the following steps to verify their credentials and experience:

  • Verify their bar status: Check with your state bar association to confirm that the lawyer is licensed to practice law and has no history of disciplinary actions.
  • Look for juvenile law experience: Review the lawyer’s website or professional profile to ensure they specialize in juvenile law and have successfully handled cases similar to yours.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for client reviews on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to see what previous clients have said about the lawyer’s professionalism and success rate in juvenile cases.
  • Ask for references: A reputable lawyer should be able to provide references from past clients who have worked with them on juvenile law matters.
  • Check for certifications or memberships: Look for memberships in organizations like the National Juvenile Defender Center (NJDC) or certifications in juvenile law, which can indicate a lawyer’s dedication to representing minors.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first consultation with a juvenile law lawyer, it’s important to come prepared with relevant documents and information. Here’s what you should bring:

  • Court documents: Bring any legal documents related to your child’s case, such as summons, complaints, or court orders.
  • School records: Provide any relevant school records, including disciplinary reports, attendance records, and communications from school officials.
  • CPS or investigation reports: If your case involves child welfare, bring any reports or documentation from CPS or other investigating agencies.
  • Timeline of events: Prepare a detailed timeline of events related to your child’s legal issue, including interactions with authorities or school officials.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Write down any questions about the legal process, your child’s rights, and potential outcomes for the case.

Being well-prepared will help the lawyer assess your child’s situation more effectively and provide the best possible legal advice tailored to your needs.
