Genuine and amazingly talented, he truly did the best he could to help me win in court. And we Did! Connor not only got me off of Federal Probation but he had the Judge lecturing the Prosecutor on ethics and verbally questioning their motives in front of the entire courtroom. He didn’t just do it to win he really believed in me and came up his own arguments and led me right out of court and 100% free. I owe him and Susan Moffatt and Allison”Tex” Clark a world of praise. They are rated the best Federal public defenders office in the country and the title is well deserved.

I retained Annelisa Smith in 2016 after I found out DSHS was investigation my sons mother and her husband. We went to court days later and I won sole legal custody at an immediate danger hearing. Since then my son has been with me 365 days a year. Over the last 8 years I have been to trial with Annelisa 3 times all with favorable outcomes, and the last time in court was one sided in my favor. It seems she always know the best strategy for each situation. She fought hard to give my son the life he deserves.

I cannot say enough good things about McKeanSmith. From the moment I reached out, they were very responsive, provided exceptional guidance, clear communication and a genuine sense of care for my situation. I worked directly with Mary and Stephan, both of their expertise and professionalism were evident at every step, making a complex and stressful situation feel manageable. Jacob and other support staff were very helpful as well. What truly stood out was their commitment to understanding my needs and advocating for my best interests. They were always available to answer my questions and provided detailed explanations, ensuring I was informed and comfortable with the legal process. I am pleased with the outcome of my case and I am deeply grateful for their hard work and dedication. If you're looking for a knowledgeable, trustworthy, and compassionate attorney, I wholeheartedly recommend McKeanSmith, and in particular Mary and Stephan.

Our life has been stifled because someone we used to consider as a friend has turned into a lunatic due to mental illness. We had no choice but to seek an SPO against him from the court. We were lucky to find attorney Amanda Hash to represent us in court on a very tight timeline. Although we have prepared enough evidence, it was still not an easy case. The judge was very reluctant to make a decision and asked us to come back in 2 hours. At that time, we all thought it was difficult for us to win. Amanda did not get discouraged, but used the 2 hours to search for similar cases to mine and used them to successfully convince the judge. The win was a huge relief for our family and we're grateful to have worked with this law firm!

Eric Fournier provided legal help for my case, I was extremely happy to be able to get him as my lawyer. Not only did he provide every single detail to me and explain everything, but any time I had a question; he had an answer and right away. I cannot tell you how many times I felt nervous or uneasy, and I'd reach out and he would call or text immediately and reassure me. The entire staff were also very polite and treated me with respect. Thank you Eric!

I had Todd for family court appointed lawyer. He was a good lawyer. Worked hard. He was limited with his options, but he still did his best. He showed up to court when the lawyer I did hire left without notifying me. He also showed up for my final court resolution of custody. Although he couldn't represent me that day, he gave me the best advise he could. Something he didnt have to do. Thanks Todd.

Mark is extremely well connected. He was highly recommended to me and he exceeded my expectations. I'm ugly and bipolar, and he did a stellar job defending me. It is unfortunate that people don't know how to work with attorney. They have a heavy case load and can't remember the details on the fly. They HAVE to refer to their files before giving an answer. Every case has it's own quirks. And people micromanage because they are infinitely more vested in the outcome (unless it's a contingent fee!--then BUYER BEWARE. you receive a 1/3 and get taxed on 100%). Mark even told me that. How honest is that? BTW, the outcome was better than I expected. Thank you Mark. You really helped me out of a legal nightmare.

I have retained Devin twice now in an on going custody battle. Each time we have won. Both court appearances involved the enforcement of parenting time filed from my child’s father. The second appearance was much more complex. I had chosen to leave the state with my child although there was an existing parenting plan and court order in place. Although I had very good reasons to relocate, I had a good chance of being in a lot of trouble with the courts if I didn’t have Devin on my side to articulate to the courts that it was in my child’s best interest. Trying to relocate to a different state with a child is one of the hardest and almost impossible things to accomplish. And Devin came into the court room well prepared and exceeded all of my expectations. Ultimately the judge did not order me or my child back to Oregon, I was not ordered to make up any parenting time (it had been over a year since my daughter saw her father), and he was given very limited time with our daughter. We were given everything we asked the judge for. I could never thank Devin enough for his expertise and fighting for my daughters safety and well being. When it came to closing arguments in court, I could tell Devin took my case personal. It felt like he really cared, and it wasn’t just “another case” If you are looking for an amazing attorney that is knowledgeable and that will fight for you, it is Devin!

I met with Mr. Driver initially for a divorce consult. He was efficient and knowledgeable about the process of divorce and was able to provide direct and clear answers to my questions. I arrived feeling deeply concerned about how to get my divorce done, having struggled with the paperwork myself. Mr. Driver was able to provide calm and clear guidance, demystify the process and simplify the paperwork for me. He was able to communicate with me by email, which allowed me to keep working my full-time job while negotiating divorce paperwork details during breaks. This took a huge load off my shoulders knowing I had someone handling the legal aspect of things and looking out for me. Ultimately the divorce was completed within 2 months, and I am grateful that it was kept simple and amicable. What a relief! I'm thankful that I found him when I did, and I highly recommend Devin Driver as a divorce attorney.

I had the misfortune of hiring this firm in 2020 to handle a VA Disability Appeal. Year after year, till yesterday, they did absolutely nothing. Weren't even sure if any records release went to the '2' facilities I was treated at. Totally not ready for my hearing which they postponed to 'get ready' (hahhahahahahhahaa!) Yeah.. Anyway, they blew it. They performed no work, didn't get records because guess what?? Records don't just muster on station at their office without VALID AND CONTEMPORANEOUS requests, which didn't happen. 3 years of time wasted. They self ejected because they knew they were in way way above their heads and couldn't perform because they didn't even request records. Had I researched them I would never have hired them. IF you want your case to go nowhere, hire these guys! It'll grow MOSS!!!!! note: Just because a person 'served' in a branch of military, does NOT necessarily mean they have your back...or are equipped to do the work. I should have asked what their MOS' were!!!

Hired this "attorney?" for a child custody case for my daughter. Extremely unprofessional in her demeanor and attire. She charges $275.00 an hour for her services and will charge you for every little thing! During her/our first hearing with the judge, she was unable to even present her case after a combative attitude and heated arguments with the judge. Judge decided case without even speaking to my daughter, or any of her witnesses because of this. We fired her and her final bill was trumped up to squeeze out every last dime from us...Final cost: $5500.+ just up to the FIRST hearing! BUYER BEWARE, it is our opinion that it is all about running up the bill with her!

When we came to Shelley, we were desperate. My husband had been dealing with having his daughter withheld from him at random, and constant abusive text messages from his daughter's mother. His daughter was not in the greatest situation, and the judge was believing all of the lies that were being told to her for years upon years. Enough was enough! We searched and searched, Shelley came to the rescue! She gave us hope, and reminded my husband that he IS a good father, and deserves his daughter on a consistent basis. She gave specific guidance on how to organize information and give it to her. She did not make any open ended promises. Shelley is very black and white. She keeps it real. She isn't going to sugar coat things for you, or fluff things up to make them what they aren't. If she needs something or has a concern she will bring it to the appropriate person's attention in a professional manner. She helped make our family complete. She has been a great investment to our family, and gave us what we were not able to achieve on our own...our daughter. Not only was my husband granted more parenting time, but he was also granted sole custody. Now we can rest easy knowing that she is getting the BEST possible care and education, all thanks to Shelley Fuller! We love her!

Public "pretenders" are a more accurate label for every single person employed to "help" "defend" you. Got more done trusting a jailbroken chatgpt for help understanding my options. These people will just convince you to take a horrible plea deal and tell you they only focus on some B.S. parts of law that aren't even relevant in defending your case. Won't ask for any kind of leniency or do anything helpful really and don't bother looking through your case file before meeting with you if it's not a guaranteed win

Andrew Bobzien is an outstanding lawyer with an outstanding reputation. He specializes in Domestic Violence cases. He is an expert in Family Law. Keep in mind that no matter what Family Law Attorney you hire, there will be challenges. Getting a Divorce or dealing with custody issues is highly emotional. A great example would be the review below. I know her and she actually recommended Drew to me. She unfortunately was emotionally unstable at the time and took advice from her mother instead of from Drew. I know this because I was with her during this time and couldn't believe how unreasonable she was being. I on the other hand trusted his advice and direction and came out winning my case. The best advice I can give on finding a good lawyer is to meet with them in person to see if you and the attorney are a good fit. Someone like Drew who has been practicing for many years and has a great reputation amongst his peers would also be something to consider. The other thing I appreciated about Drew is he kept the cost down as best he could and he allowed me to make payments once he worked through my retainer. Thank you Drew for outstanding representation. I wish you well.

I made the mistake of hiring this lawyer to represent me. I am in a very vulnerable position as my husband is a high wage earner and I have been a stay at home mother for many years. Mr. Bobzien does not know how to represent women and children who are trying to escape domestic abuse. I recognized too late that Mr. Bobzien was not advocating for me at all. It has been a costly mistake and I regret hiring him. I believe he is complete untrustworthy. For Mr. Bobzien, what comes around goes around in life.

Arrogant A-hole. Exactly what we all fear a bad lawyer is. Not prompt or thorough, but will charge you like he is. Crams like a college frat boy. Essentially is still is one, with a law degree. Not experienced with high conflict cases. Do Not Use if: you are female, have experienced trauma or are divorcing a narcissist. Blamed me for his uncontrolled temper in front of the judge. Reported he "tricked" me into having a settlement conference and therefore he waived the cost of it, including his legal fees. Not a good feel. Especially when expressing sympathy for the OP and how they got "the shaft" in my divorce. Made recommendations that my ex and I split time with our child 50/50 (which isn't even possible when parents live in 2 different counties) after my ex absconded with my child for 4 months and it took me 5 months to get him to file parenting time enforcement on my behalf. I should have cut my losses in the first month. It would have saved me lost time with my children and about 25K.

After my wife passed away I had a custody claim put against me by a family member from my wife’s side. I met with Mr. Weyer and he walked me through everything that could happen and what the possible outcomes were. I had never been into trouble before or been a bad parent to my son, Mr Weyer was really good at assuring me that we were going to be alright. He spent countless hours on my case and would check in frequently telling me where we were at. The thing I liked about him was that he didn’t tell you what you wanted to hear, he always advised on what he believed was best. He is really good at representing his clients in the court room. I had never testified before and he did a really good job at keeping me calm before and after I testified. All of Mr Weyer’s hard work paid off because we won our case entirely and I was able to move on with my life reassured that I had 100% custody of my son. I would definitely hire Mr Weyer again. He has incredible knowledge about Family Law.

Had a nasty Break up with my ex and had lost contact with my son. My ex slapped me with a restraining order, and i jumped the gun in responding to it before consulting with Brad, Asked for an extension in court to try to secure a lawyer, extension was denied by judge, I ended up with an RO. After consulting Brad he wanted to take my case. With months of negotiations He ended up getting me a parenting plan that my ex finally agreed too. All in all Brad was a great lawyer, he is a lawyer that doesn't tell you what you want to hear, he tells you what you need to hear. Always answered all my questions and gave me great advise. He handled my case very well and professionally. I would hire him again in the future.

My husband and I hired Scott in Nov 2023 for my husband to adopt my daughter. He sure liked to answer my calls before I sent him the check. Once payment was received, it was touch and go communication. It would take WEEKS for him to return calls or texts. I had to call my county courthouse to make sure he even filed the paperwork because he was not getting back to me (2.5 weeks) When the judge signed off on our adoption, I still didn't hear anything. I ended up going to the courthouse to pick up the paperwork myself because he kept "letting it slip". Finally almost 4 months after the judges approval we received our documents. Save yourself the stress and hire a better attorney.

Scott lead us to victory with our complex adoption. He fought for our family, expressed any concerns and advice. I felt comfortable to reach out with any questions. He was confident and knowledgeable. I appreciate his dedication and advocacy. I would recommend him for adoption services. Thank you for all the hard work you put into our case.

This attorney convinced me to agree to a fifty fity that has affected my son so much. The other parent has huge anger issues that I had police reports for as well as witnesses. He had pot in car upon pick up and had been mad about money since pregnancy. I had log books and the courts have proof that he was after taxes. I tried to let him know I was unhappy but he fired me and used the excuse of consistantly late papements. I was late one month but I made next 4 months. He sent me s check back for over 500.00. He had this laid back casual attitude and I needed a fighter!! My son says every time when he has to go with dad, I don't want to go mom, I want to stay at your home... That sucks.. I respond to my son this is your home and I will see you real soon and work hard... My son calls this my home but ITS HIS HOME!!! He is only 3 1/2 and his father didn't even accept him until he was two. He actually bought a swab test at walgreens...Then never sent it. Missid his first easter, birthday, and gave me hell and I have the proof... David Hasen didn't pay attention to his fathers anger, greed or neglect and handed him right over... HE SUCKS!!!!

This attorney is putting other attorneys in situations either they get the client to take the deal so they can move onto other clients. I feel this attorney needs reviewed on his ethics about representing people who are saying do your job put motions in to suppress stuff instead of having lunch with with the da and the judge. This lawyer was fired by my son ricky Ellison.

I was looking up my attorney’s mailing address and some comments and decided to leave mine in response. I’ve had a business relationship with linda for over 20+ years. She has always been professional, courteous and timely. She has helped me with a divorce, as well as real estate contract issues and other business issues. Always has done the best. I work intimately with the public and am aware of those types who spew far fetched stories - like the one where they say their attorney didn’t follow through or call them back for six months. I consider that lots of people lack candor (lie) in order to build themselves up and make themselves look better when they have bad cases. Remember: an attorney can try their best, but can only do so much, especially when their client is a mutt and is less than honorable. If you want a great attorney who will work hard for you, Linda is the one. Just don’t expect her to lie on your behalf. She is highly ethical.

Linda was very prompt to accept payment from me to defend against my citation. However, after she received payment I did not hear from her despite leaving messages, emails, and texts for over 6 months! Upon which I received an email stating my court case was not decided in my favor. Completely worthless.

Unbelievably unprofessional. She was so impatient during trial, talked about her personal stress, such as her daughters birthday and browsed her laptop during critical testimony. This is a true case of a lawyer looking out strictly for their own well-being. Appalled she is a part of our legal system.

Mrs Kliewer came highly rcommended by an old district attorney in Oregon for juvenile cases. She was incredibly professional, she developed a course of action quickly and started executing it before we even left the first meeting. The whole process went according to plan and was resolved quickly and efficiently, all with the refreshingly pleasant demeanor you rarely find in a lawyer. I would recommend her to anyone in the area, she was a pleasure to work with.

If you find yourself in the frightening, confusing position of having CPS open a case against you, and take jurisdiction of you child(ten), and there is ANY way you can get the money to hire a private attorney, do so! Even if you think you want the same things as CPS, and so you can just cooperate and everything will turn out ok, it’s not that simple. I didn’t want to believe the cynical, paranoid sounding advice I read online over and over when my case began. If there’s one thing that will make all the difference, it will be hiring your own attorney. A private attorney will fight for you, your rights and your position. A court appointment attorney will simply guide you through the process of allowing CPS to do whatever they want to do to your family. At least, this one will. He never put an ounce of effort into talking about potential strategies, but put plenty of brain power into defending and excusing anything and everything CPS did and said. His overall mantra seemed to be “That’s just what they do.”, and assured me that it was useless to stand up to them. I was told it didn’t matter that they lied on court documents, and that I could prove they did so. He said that bringing witnesses and evidence of their dishonesty to court wouldn’t matter. He failed to follow through on my request for a hearing on my founded disposition, after he told me his office would handle that request, resulting in my missing the 30 day window to request the hearing. I was told I would receive a signed plan after the family engagement meeting, and that was never provided. I was talked out of going to trial, even though I could not honestly make a statement of settlement, but he scared me into making a statement I did not mean, telling me if I lost my case CPS would punish me by not lifting their harsh restrictions, and trying to take my rights permanently in the end. He assured me if I just settled they would loosen restrictions right away, and then if I just cooperated everything would work out. They never lifted restrictions, and still tried to cut me out of my daughters life in the end. At that point, Davis told me he’s said all along that that’s what CPS does in situations like mine. Basically, every conversation, he’s tell me something completely different that what he’s told me the last time, and then act as if I were crazy for saying he’s ever said otherwise. He was disrespectful and without compassion, and couldn’t have made it more obvious that he works WITH CPS and not FOR me. I finally got together money to hire an attorney, but I honestly would have sold my every possession to have done so from the beginning, rather than having allowed myself to be kept confused and helpless by this court appointment advocate for the Agency.

What a Juvenile Law Lawyer Can Do for You

A juvenile law lawyer specializes in legal issues involving minors, including those facing criminal charges, child welfare matters, or status offenses (like truancy or curfew violations). Juvenile law lawyers aim to protect the rights of minors and advocate for rehabilitation rather than punishment in criminal cases. They also help families navigate child custody, abuse, neglect cases, and other legal matters involving children.

If your child is facing criminal charges, or you are involved in a child welfare case, a juvenile law lawyer can help protect your child’s rights and work toward the most favorable outcome.

When Should I Hire a Juvenile Law Lawyer?

You should consider hiring a juvenile law lawyer in the following situations where minors are involved in legal matters:

  • Juvenile criminal charges: If your child is accused of a crime, such as theft, assault, or drug offenses, a juvenile lawyer can represent them in juvenile court, advocating for leniency and alternatives to detention.
  • Delinquency proceedings: A lawyer can help navigate delinquency charges, defending your child’s rights and seeking rehabilitative outcomes like counseling, probation, or diversion programs instead of incarceration.
  • Status offenses: If your child has committed a status offense, such as truancy, running away, or underage drinking, a lawyer can help you resolve these issues in juvenile court, often focusing on rehabilitation rather than punishment.
  • School disciplinary issues: If your child is facing school suspensions, expulsions, or other disciplinary actions, a lawyer can help protect their educational rights and challenge any unfair or unlawful school policies.
  • Child protective services (CPS) investigations: If your family is being investigated by CPS for alleged abuse, neglect, or dependency, a lawyer can represent you and protect your child’s rights throughout the investigation.
  • Custody disputes: A lawyer can help in cases involving child custody or guardianship disputes, ensuring the child’s best interests are prioritized and advocating for the child’s rights.
  • Emancipation: If your child seeks legal emancipation from their parents or guardians, a lawyer can assist in navigating the legal process and help the child understand their rights and responsibilities.

Hiring a lawyer early in the legal process ensures that your child’s rights are protected and that the best possible outcomes are pursued.

What Does a Juvenile Law Lawyer Do?

A juvenile law lawyer provides various services to help minors and their families navigate the legal system. Their responsibilities often include:

  • Representing minors in court: A lawyer will represent your child in juvenile court, advocating for their rights and seeking rehabilitative outcomes rather than punitive measures.
  • Filing motions and legal paperwork: The lawyer handles all necessary legal filings, including petitions, responses, and motions to dismiss charges or suppress evidence.
  • Negotiating with prosecutors: In some cases, a lawyer can negotiate plea deals or diversion programs that prevent the child from having a permanent criminal record or serving time in detention.
  • Advising on rehabilitation programs: Juvenile law lawyers often focus on alternatives to incarceration, such as counseling, community service, or probation, helping minors avoid long-term legal consequences.
  • Handling CPS and child welfare cases: If your family is involved in a CPS investigation or child welfare case, the lawyer can advocate for your child’s safety and well-being, ensuring that their rights are upheld.
  • Defending minors against school discipline: A lawyer can help challenge unfair or excessive disciplinary actions taken by schools, ensuring that your child’s educational rights are protected.
  • Advising families on legal options: A lawyer will explain the juvenile legal process to families, offering advice on the best legal strategies and what to expect during the case.

How Are Juvenile Law Lawyers Paid?

Juvenile law lawyers typically charge for their services based on the complexity of the case and the time involved. Common payment structures include:

  • Hourly rate: Many juvenile law lawyers charge by the hour, with rates ranging from $150 to $500 or more, depending on the lawyer’s experience and location.
  • Flat fee: For simpler cases, such as status offenses or school disciplinary hearings, a lawyer may charge a flat fee that covers all legal services related to the case.
  • Retainer: In more complex cases, such as defending against serious criminal charges or handling a long-term CPS investigation, a lawyer may require a retainer, which is an upfront payment billed against as they work on the case.
  • Sliding scale or pro bono services: Some juvenile law lawyers offer sliding scale fees based on income or may provide pro bono (free) services for families who cannot afford to pay full legal fees, especially in cases involving child welfare or delinquency.

Discuss the lawyer’s fee structure during your consultation to understand the total cost and payment options.

How Much Does a Juvenile Law Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a juvenile law lawyer depends on the complexity of the case, the lawyer’s experience, and the time involved. General cost estimates include:

  • Juvenile criminal cases: Legal fees for defending a minor in juvenile criminal cases can range from $2,000 to $10,000 or more, depending on the severity of the charges and whether the case goes to trial.
  • Status offenses: For cases involving minor offenses such as truancy or underage drinking, legal fees typically range from $1,500 to $5,000.
  • CPS or child welfare cases: Legal fees for representing families in CPS investigations or child welfare cases can range from $2,000 to $8,000 or more, depending on the complexity of the case.
  • School disciplinary hearings: Legal fees for representing students in school-related issues may range from $1,000 to $3,500, depending on the legal work required.

Make sure to get a clear estimate of costs during your initial consultation to ensure you understand the full scope of fees and services.

Top Questions to Ask a Juvenile Law Lawyer

Before hiring a juvenile law lawyer, it’s important to ask key questions to ensure they have the experience and expertise to handle your child’s case effectively. Key questions to ask include:

  1. What experience do you have with juvenile law cases?
Make sure the lawyer has handled cases similar to yours, whether it’s juvenile delinquency, child custody, or CPS investigations.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer charges by the hour, offers flat fees, or requires a retainer. Ask for a detailed estimate of the total cost.
  3. What is the likelihood of success in my child’s case?
Ask the lawyer for an honest assessment of the case, including potential challenges and likely outcomes.
  4. How long will the process take?
Juvenile cases can vary in duration, so ask the lawyer how long they expect the process to last and what factors might affect the timeline.
  5. Will you personally handle my child’s case?
In larger firms, junior attorneys or paralegals may handle parts of the case. Make sure you know who will be managing the case and representing your child in court.
  6. What rights does my child have?
Ask the lawyer to explain your child’s legal rights, including their rights during police questioning, school disciplinary actions, and court proceedings.

How to Check the Credibility of a Juvenile Law Lawyer

To ensure you are hiring a reputable juvenile law lawyer, take the following steps to verify their credentials and experience:

  • Verify their bar status: Check with your state bar association to confirm that the lawyer is licensed to practice law and has no history of disciplinary actions.
  • Look for juvenile law experience: Review the lawyer’s website or professional profile to ensure they specialize in juvenile law and have successfully handled cases similar to yours.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for client reviews on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to see what previous clients have said about the lawyer’s professionalism and success rate in juvenile cases.
  • Ask for references: A reputable lawyer should be able to provide references from past clients who have worked with them on juvenile law matters.
  • Check for certifications or memberships: Look for memberships in organizations like the National Juvenile Defender Center (NJDC) or certifications in juvenile law, which can indicate a lawyer’s dedication to representing minors.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first consultation with a juvenile law lawyer, it’s important to come prepared with relevant documents and information. Here’s what you should bring:

  • Court documents: Bring any legal documents related to your child’s case, such as summons, complaints, or court orders.
  • School records: Provide any relevant school records, including disciplinary reports, attendance records, and communications from school officials.
  • CPS or investigation reports: If your case involves child welfare, bring any reports or documentation from CPS or other investigating agencies.
  • Timeline of events: Prepare a detailed timeline of events related to your child’s legal issue, including interactions with authorities or school officials.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Write down any questions about the legal process, your child’s rights, and potential outcomes for the case.

Being well-prepared will help the lawyer assess your child’s situation more effectively and provide the best possible legal advice tailored to your needs.
