I dont suggest Lisa as a lawyer at all. My case has been going on for almost 2 years and for a first time offense (DWI), ALOT of money, and her saying what she "could" do..... she didnt show up to court twice instead sent her husband. She didnt know what was going on with my case the times I went to talk to her. When I talked to probation and they said I would have to do a 90 day out patient program and went to her office upset about it because I have a 2 jobs and trying to finish school and pay my bills she gave me attitude and said "what's wrong with that," as a lawyer I would expect more. She wants a monthly payment so of course after almost 2 years she has been paid in full and I cant even get any of my money back with my court case still pending.

Roark is a fabulous lawyer!! He works quick to get things done, works hard on your case, he has always called me back in a timely manner, he has always answered my questions.. Roark has been my lawyer for 14+ years.. He always made me feel confident about my case from day one.. When I 1st talked to him 14 years ago. He spent 2 hours or so with me on the phone telling me what I needed to do.. He took the time out of his Sunday to help me... Mr. Roark knows his stuff! I've used him myself for a child custody case. My husband has used him and also my dad.. I would absolutely recommend him to anyone!! Mr.Roark is a dam good lawyer!

This attorney is a slow-witted litigant that refuses to acknowledge current case law. He will do absolutely nothing to improve your disposition once he is retained, and you can have the same result if you remain Pro Se. He contends that there are no limits to the power exercised by family court trial judges and will do nothing to correct an injustice-a dangerous attitude for an attorney with a client who values their own interests. He will not fight for you! He is less knowledgeable than most learned lay-persons he represents. He is unresponsive, habitually late, poor at communicating with his client, and engages in repeated logical fallacies of assuming those who are not attorneys would not have any knowledge to impart. He refused to acknowledge the local rules of another county--he loves to talk about how they do it in Harris county (something every adjacent county court judge hates and regularly slams attorneys in court for assuming that the same rules apply). In his draft, "that (he) was paid to do," he screwed that up too! This is despite being told he was breaking the local rules (because it wasn't another attorney who told him). He would argue that 2 + 2 equals 3 until another attorney says it's 13 (This number was deliberately chosen as it is even further from the truth). He will immediately trust that as canon and ignore you as you scream, "It's 4!" Here is my prediction for his latest debacle: The proposed order he drafted will be rejected, the alternative copy filed by opposing counsel will be accepted -- despite the inclusion of provisions that were never filed, tried, and ordered, because he refused to acknowledge the local rules. As a result, the petitioner will get away with not allowing visitation with the child this past Summer. On an enforcement action he was paid to rewrite a Pro Se draft to ensure it would not be stricken. He took the Pro Se copy, added a sentence about attorney's fees, and filed it as is. It was stricken. So I am out money and no closer to holding my ex accountable for refusing to let me see my child this past Summer. He values the word of opposing counsel over his own client and operates in an elitist manner assuming no one without a law degree could know better. He will not do research. He has refused to review the petitioner's proposed order, essentially going blind into a court room with no preparation to counter the other party's assertions. Any client of his will work harder than he does, and most efforts by his client will be centered on keeping him in line. He is a mid-level paralegal at best. If you want to know exactly what it is like to be represented by him, don't show up to hearings, let the other side get everything they want by default, take about $1700, and then burn it. That is exactly the same result as retaining James Roark.

Overall I was pleased with her representation. I must admit I do appreciate the honesty and reality check that I was given going into this case. I was able to be more realistic with my expectations as she did a good job explaining what the law requires as opposed to what I wanted to hear. I was able to call the office and ask whatever questions I had, if her staff did not know the answer off hand, I was able to get an answer usually by the next day. I felt she did care about my case and was able to relate to my situation. She did an excellent job in court and was ready to fire back when it was needed. She maintained her professionalism throughout the case, was well prepared, and really fought for my best interests. I was pleased with the outcome and would highly recommend her and seek out her services again. As far as charges were concerned I was told at the beginning that this would be a costly battle and planned accordingly.

As a referenced attorney, I thought it was going to be a top notch representation and have a great impact on winning the case. However, don't get me wrong she is a very knowledgeable attorney but limited on her communication. Eventually, I presented all necessary documentation, sent helpful information electronically, in person, or over the phone to her paralegal to communicate with Mrs. Carreon about my case. The paralegal would let me know that that type of information was not going to be brought up or looked at in court or anything prior to the incident. It turns out the information I did state to her paralegal was eventually brought up and questions were asked prior the incident. I knew off the bat that the information I stated was important and lost the case. Knowing that this was a lost cause and the unjust judge's ruling, it was a bit discouraging and upsetting. In the rate, when it came to the fees, Mrs. Carreon asked for a lump sum up front and you would think that that x amount was going to be the cost for everything. Nope, not at all, I was slammed with fees left and right totaling an outrages amount. Why can't they be up front with you before you deposit that lump sum they request? I know this is a lawyer's scam tactic where they request an x amount and blind side you with further fees. If I would of known the amount I was totally charged, I would of looked as where for a top notch service. Overall, I am upset on the outcome of the case and this will be the first and last time I recruit her as my attorney.

Bonnie was supposed to be my lawyer but she let he town personal feelings about my situation effect her representation of me. She suggested in court for the judge to just terminate my rights and give my my kids up for adoption when she is being paid to help me fight for my kids. Completely unprofessional and it isn't right for her to be paid to go against me when she is paid tofoght for me. She needs to look into another career cause she not just did a poor job but did the exact opposite. Good lawyers don't let their own opinion and feelings effect their representation of their client.

Yesterday, I was asked how in the heck do I stay sane selling so much real estate, keeping up with the girl’s and their sports, on top of all the community stuff. My answer: God has cleaned up my circle and surrounded me by true angels. I no longer surround myself or waste time on negative people or negative situations. I give it all to God….and my Attorneys, neither have failed me yet. 😊 Isaiah 54:17 Pray about it and truly let it all go. So happy I called Carter and Denham to handle my legal situation. If not for them who knows how long I would have been fighting. I now have peace of mind. Thank you Amanda and Chris!❤️

In any legal matter it’s always a stressful time for yourself, your child, and your family. The first question a person ask is “who can help?” At first I was nervous and didn’t know where to go. After looking around for a few days I was able to get a consultation with Amber, from the Bourlon Law Firm. I expressed to her the situation and how I wanted to protect my child. Within a few minutes I knew I had finally came to the right people. She immediately explained everything to me that needed to be done to win this for my son. Fast forward to the day I met Bobby Bourlon. At first glance I took him for a quiet, passive individual. I was completely wrong. The day came where Bobby Bourlon was able to represent me in the court room. I was shocked at how stern and aggressive he was. He knew exactly what to say, what to ask, and made me feel like I had nothing to worry about! I can honestly say this… my experience with Amber and Bobby was greatly appreciated. My son and I are so very fortunate to have had them on our side. If you’re looking for someone who knows how to handle a custody battle, go with the Bourlon Law Firm. They really are amazing! We couldn’t be happier with the outcome.

Having initially started with a different lawyer, we regret not choosing Dan-Phi from the beginning. His dedication and tenacity in fighting for our case were remarkable. What truly set him apart was his accessibility – always just a phone call away, providing reassurance and clear communication. STAY AWAY!!! A grievance has been filed with the State Bar of Texas. I retained Andrea Casares on March 10, 2023 to transfer an out of state child custody case, this was the first step. Thereafter she was going to file for an enforcement and modification as my visitation rights with my children were continually violated. I made it clear during my initial visit that time was of the essence, and was told by Andrea that this process will take a few months. I have much respect for the lawyers I called previously, as they stated they did not have the resources to take on my case for the attention that it deserved. After so much back and forth checking on the status, then finding out paperwork was incorrectly filled out by her staff which added to delays, waiting and waiting...I finally get a court date on March 6, 2024. A YEAR LATER! During the court session, it was at this time the opposing party filed for a continuance since my children just left for a cruise with their mother that same morning during my Spring Break visitation. Sad part, my father passed away during this period in which my children should have been with me and their grandfather. I expressed my disappointment to Andrea and mentioned if I would of known what I know now, I would of sought another lawyer. A few hours later, she sends me a Motion to Withdraw as Counsel, essentially dismissing me as a client. Reasons cited for, "unable to effectively communicate" and lack of payment. I never received any invoice, letter, or email stating I owed a balance. After all my correspondence to her and her staff, I'd figure someone at some point would of mentioned something. Mind you, I even met with her in person for the first time during my one and only court date, and still no mention of anything. After all, what results have I received thus far? A grievance has been filed against Andrea with the State Bar of Texas. Her duty to serve the best interest of the client are contrary to the Model Rules and Professional Conduct set by the American Bar Association.

Jad Harper never showed up no paper worked filed or nothing. He was paid on a Wednesday and my husband was due in court on Friday. He waited until 11 at night to try to contact my husband’s court appointed attorney. Then when Friday came for court he had excuse of he was trying. He assistant contacted and told me himself that Mr. Harper did not represent my husband and that nothing was done. I attempted to Mr. Harper several times and was told he was only giving me $1875 of my money back. I even sent over emails and everything. Still no full refund. I’m giving her a one star she referred him to me.

DO NOT HIRE. One of the WORST lawyers I have ever experienced in my life. Reyna has not ONCE went to see my loved one locked up to talk to him about anything regarding the case, lies constantly about the case ("oh they are re-reviewing the questioning again, next court date in a month"), lies about the DA saying things that are not in fact being said or done, lies about talking to the judge, lies about even going to court and THREATENS time to be served on clients (in our case, it was 25 years threatened). Multiple people have told me this same thing has happened to them (I've even heard someone say he threatened 99 years on a client, which is ridiculous and makes no sense). We are currently in the process of firing him after a full year of nothing from this man. Super unprofessional, DO NOT HIRE!!!

Mrs. McArthur represented me twice and both times she lied to me by telling me I had 2 yrs & 3 months back time which I did... She told me my minimum date was in 3 months... I got to prison and couldn't figure out why I hadn't seen parole... Well it was because my charge doesn't have a minimum... I asked for a polygraph because I did not rob my own house... She said the DA wouldn't let me take one. After I signed for the brown bag special I wrote the judge and he appointed me another attorney and the next day I went to Richard woods office... Told him my story which left him speechless. He went and called Dale came back and said I have no questions to ask... Screwed over once again... McArthur said I was charged with robbery because I didn't help my roommate when my husband put him in a choke hold (that's what he gets for stealing everything we owned) but then when I saw parole he said my paperwork says I punched my roommate. When I told her I wanted to go to trial she said no... Roommate has never been in trouble... A year later STOP set him up and he whose word it would have been against mine is now at the Beto unit with a 17 year sentence for 5 delivery of controlled substance in a drug free zone and gun charge... I have no idea how this woman is still practicing....

In a case that I provided this attorney the documents needed to show my innocence immediately the attorney at each court appearance would show up and tell me what the DA was offering and reset my court date. This is now dragging into its 10th month and at my last court date the attorney had yet to share the information that would have cleared me entirely stating that he didn’t want to “tip our cards to soon” to which I replied that had he addressed it immediately when he received it there would be no need for card at all. So now with the work that I do I can’t get a job with this showing “pending” on my background check and now after no work for 10 months I have exhausted all of my resources and I am currently facing eviction from my apartment and have lost my car as well. I have had three appointments scheduled to see him in his office and the first I took an Uber there only to find a note on the door that stated “closed for inclement weather” so I had to Uber back home. The second he called at the last minute stating that he had been called to court and had to reschedule. The next I thought let me call before wasting money of an Uber which was a good thing because when I called he answered and said that he forgot and wasn’t even in town. In fairness I had to cancel the fourth attempt at meeting with him because my ride backed out at the last minute and I could not afford another Uber. This happened in December and it is now October and the only thing that has happened in this time is that I have lost everything and about to be homeless waiting for an attorney to represent me court appointed or not. He has had the needed documents to have the charge dismissed for 10 months now and has done nothing with it except get my date reset to the point now that I have a jury trial coming up which by the way has made it impossible to hire another attorney without paying $10 ,000 to $15,000 dollars which needless to say i can no longer afford. So I can honestly say that I am horrifically disappointed and at this point hoping that i can avoid becoming homeless between now and my next court date. Please note that this should have been very simple considering that I have not had so much as a speeding ticket since 1991 so it’s not as though I am a repeat offender that would require any real finesse regarding negotiating for better terms and I gave all of the documents needed to prove my innocence 10 months ago. In total I have lost a Cadillac Escalade. A job contract that would have paid me $63,400 for a 13 week assignment , everything of value that had to be pawned to keep the lights including an $8500 wedding ring and all of my electronics, lost wages as I can’t get a job with this showing as pending in total well over $100,000 and the last this offered was deferred adjudication but I refused to plead guilty to something that I did not do and as he put it “playing chicken” all this time was hardly in my best interest nor necessary. He states at our last court date that he was 98% sure he could get it dropped before the court date to thus far I have heard nothing but crickets!!

Alamo law center helped me not only through one of the most tumultuous times of my life, but helped secure the rights of my child. There were many things to navigate in child custody, and it's a nerve-wracking process when you're trying to protect your child. Daisy was absolutely amazing through the process, and helped with the intricacies that I was constantly bombarded with, and with such sound advice, thank you! A big thank you to Attorney Garcia for being there and allowing me a chance to let me have my voice in court, and when situations arose, was there to guide me, defending in and out of court. Thank you also for paving a way to where I had the chance to be represented.

This attorney was literally like an Angel to us. She is awsome and very good at her job one day she offered her help to me when I most needed it and I thank god for that thanks to her I was able to keep my son and my family together. She is an amazing person with a huge heart and I got a really short notice about my court date and she was able to take on my case like nothing and took over and won. I will always be thankful for Mrs. Michelle Morias Kim from the bottom of heart ❤️

Initially I hired Mr. Miranda to handle a misdemeanor family violence charge that I was falsely accused of. He got that case DISMISSED for me. After that case was resolved, I was ready to move forward with divorcing my accuser. He finalized that case for me as well. I am pleased with his representation in both cases and would highly recommend him and his staff.

Malcolm Miranda was highly recommended to me, and for good reason. I needed a combination of help: defense as I was falsely accused in a CPS a case, and also defense in a hostile divorce case. He had the legal experience to help with the all the layers. He was exactly the help that I needed!

First, in the consultation he will tell you he does not charge for phone or email conversations about the case, but when you get the bill the chargers were all there. We spoke about things in the consultation that he said he would do and were possible. Then once he was hired and he did not do them and they were suddenly not a good idea. Sometimes he took days and multiple calls to return a call or email. His office told me the wrong time to show up for court! It took me pushing and pushing him to get things done. His office filed the paperwork wrong with the court and delayed me getting my child support. I had to call to find out what the problem was and when I told him and his staff about it, they insisted what the court clerk had told me was wrong!! Then once everything is said and done, if you have a question about the paperwork he prepared (because he absolutely will not explain it well), he will not answer questions and will tell you he is too busy! I’ve dealt with a few lawyers previously and have never believed in the lawyer “rat” stereotype until I dealt with Michael. All around a horrible experience.

Mr. Daniel came to the rescue and helped my family sort out the convoluted details of a very old Will that had an absentee executor. He had more knowledge of similar unusual circumstances than anyone else had and was willing to spend his time researching the subject to discover other possible unknowns. All legal matters were well resolved in his very capable hands. Throughout the entire process, he was patient and understanding and supportive in every way. He is a truly kind man with a heart to help people. I will always use his services and I whole-heartedly recommend Mr. Daniel.

I met with Mr Ranney in his office and gave full details of my incident and when the court date came ( pre trial payment charged) he was surprised and unprepared by the the judges actions. He had just advised me ( moments before my appearing in front of the judge) that he knew how this judge operated and his expectations were way off. I would not advise anyone to even hire Mr Ranney for pre trial counsel. Consider representing yourself before signing any agreement with Douglas Ranney.

I was charged with a DWI (I refused giving arresting officers breath test and was not asked for blood work for BAC). Mr. Ranney got me into the PTI (Pre-Trial Intervention Program) which once completed the charge is dismissed. The PTI program is a guilty charge if you do not complete program without violation. You will have a breathalyzer in your care for 6 months, 40 hours community service, MADD class, complete a class/work book (approximately 4 weeks). Take random UAs.. I was only required to take one. I violated my breathalyzer in my car several (3-4 times) a little over a week before I completed the 6 months. Mr. Ranney was able to still get the DWI dismissed since I was so close to completing the program. I would absolutely recommend him to others. Also, his office staff is always very helpful!

I was charged with a few crimes and yes I had made those mistakes. Hired a different lawyer who just talked a good game but didn't deliver. I came in and hired Doug. He worked for months on my cases -- and got them ALL dropped. I walked away clean and put my life back together. He was the man. Lotta gratitude from me.

What a Juvenile Law Lawyer Can Do for You

A juvenile law lawyer specializes in legal issues involving minors, including those facing criminal charges, child welfare matters, or status offenses (like truancy or curfew violations). Juvenile law lawyers aim to protect the rights of minors and advocate for rehabilitation rather than punishment in criminal cases. They also help families navigate child custody, abuse, neglect cases, and other legal matters involving children.

If your child is facing criminal charges, or you are involved in a child welfare case, a juvenile law lawyer can help protect your child’s rights and work toward the most favorable outcome.

When Should I Hire a Juvenile Law Lawyer?

You should consider hiring a juvenile law lawyer in the following situations where minors are involved in legal matters:

  • Juvenile criminal charges: If your child is accused of a crime, such as theft, assault, or drug offenses, a juvenile lawyer can represent them in juvenile court, advocating for leniency and alternatives to detention.
  • Delinquency proceedings: A lawyer can help navigate delinquency charges, defending your child’s rights and seeking rehabilitative outcomes like counseling, probation, or diversion programs instead of incarceration.
  • Status offenses: If your child has committed a status offense, such as truancy, running away, or underage drinking, a lawyer can help you resolve these issues in juvenile court, often focusing on rehabilitation rather than punishment.
  • School disciplinary issues: If your child is facing school suspensions, expulsions, or other disciplinary actions, a lawyer can help protect their educational rights and challenge any unfair or unlawful school policies.
  • Child protective services (CPS) investigations: If your family is being investigated by CPS for alleged abuse, neglect, or dependency, a lawyer can represent you and protect your child’s rights throughout the investigation.
  • Custody disputes: A lawyer can help in cases involving child custody or guardianship disputes, ensuring the child’s best interests are prioritized and advocating for the child’s rights.
  • Emancipation: If your child seeks legal emancipation from their parents or guardians, a lawyer can assist in navigating the legal process and help the child understand their rights and responsibilities.

Hiring a lawyer early in the legal process ensures that your child’s rights are protected and that the best possible outcomes are pursued.

What Does a Juvenile Law Lawyer Do?

A juvenile law lawyer provides various services to help minors and their families navigate the legal system. Their responsibilities often include:

  • Representing minors in court: A lawyer will represent your child in juvenile court, advocating for their rights and seeking rehabilitative outcomes rather than punitive measures.
  • Filing motions and legal paperwork: The lawyer handles all necessary legal filings, including petitions, responses, and motions to dismiss charges or suppress evidence.
  • Negotiating with prosecutors: In some cases, a lawyer can negotiate plea deals or diversion programs that prevent the child from having a permanent criminal record or serving time in detention.
  • Advising on rehabilitation programs: Juvenile law lawyers often focus on alternatives to incarceration, such as counseling, community service, or probation, helping minors avoid long-term legal consequences.
  • Handling CPS and child welfare cases: If your family is involved in a CPS investigation or child welfare case, the lawyer can advocate for your child’s safety and well-being, ensuring that their rights are upheld.
  • Defending minors against school discipline: A lawyer can help challenge unfair or excessive disciplinary actions taken by schools, ensuring that your child’s educational rights are protected.
  • Advising families on legal options: A lawyer will explain the juvenile legal process to families, offering advice on the best legal strategies and what to expect during the case.

How Are Juvenile Law Lawyers Paid?

Juvenile law lawyers typically charge for their services based on the complexity of the case and the time involved. Common payment structures include:

  • Hourly rate: Many juvenile law lawyers charge by the hour, with rates ranging from $150 to $500 or more, depending on the lawyer’s experience and location.
  • Flat fee: For simpler cases, such as status offenses or school disciplinary hearings, a lawyer may charge a flat fee that covers all legal services related to the case.
  • Retainer: In more complex cases, such as defending against serious criminal charges or handling a long-term CPS investigation, a lawyer may require a retainer, which is an upfront payment billed against as they work on the case.
  • Sliding scale or pro bono services: Some juvenile law lawyers offer sliding scale fees based on income or may provide pro bono (free) services for families who cannot afford to pay full legal fees, especially in cases involving child welfare or delinquency.

Discuss the lawyer’s fee structure during your consultation to understand the total cost and payment options.

How Much Does a Juvenile Law Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a juvenile law lawyer depends on the complexity of the case, the lawyer’s experience, and the time involved. General cost estimates include:

  • Juvenile criminal cases: Legal fees for defending a minor in juvenile criminal cases can range from $2,000 to $10,000 or more, depending on the severity of the charges and whether the case goes to trial.
  • Status offenses: For cases involving minor offenses such as truancy or underage drinking, legal fees typically range from $1,500 to $5,000.
  • CPS or child welfare cases: Legal fees for representing families in CPS investigations or child welfare cases can range from $2,000 to $8,000 or more, depending on the complexity of the case.
  • School disciplinary hearings: Legal fees for representing students in school-related issues may range from $1,000 to $3,500, depending on the legal work required.

Make sure to get a clear estimate of costs during your initial consultation to ensure you understand the full scope of fees and services.

Top Questions to Ask a Juvenile Law Lawyer

Before hiring a juvenile law lawyer, it’s important to ask key questions to ensure they have the experience and expertise to handle your child’s case effectively. Key questions to ask include:

  1. What experience do you have with juvenile law cases?
Make sure the lawyer has handled cases similar to yours, whether it’s juvenile delinquency, child custody, or CPS investigations.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer charges by the hour, offers flat fees, or requires a retainer. Ask for a detailed estimate of the total cost.
  3. What is the likelihood of success in my child’s case?
Ask the lawyer for an honest assessment of the case, including potential challenges and likely outcomes.
  4. How long will the process take?
Juvenile cases can vary in duration, so ask the lawyer how long they expect the process to last and what factors might affect the timeline.
  5. Will you personally handle my child’s case?
In larger firms, junior attorneys or paralegals may handle parts of the case. Make sure you know who will be managing the case and representing your child in court.
  6. What rights does my child have?
Ask the lawyer to explain your child’s legal rights, including their rights during police questioning, school disciplinary actions, and court proceedings.

How to Check the Credibility of a Juvenile Law Lawyer

To ensure you are hiring a reputable juvenile law lawyer, take the following steps to verify their credentials and experience:

  • Verify their bar status: Check with your state bar association to confirm that the lawyer is licensed to practice law and has no history of disciplinary actions.
  • Look for juvenile law experience: Review the lawyer’s website or professional profile to ensure they specialize in juvenile law and have successfully handled cases similar to yours.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for client reviews on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to see what previous clients have said about the lawyer’s professionalism and success rate in juvenile cases.
  • Ask for references: A reputable lawyer should be able to provide references from past clients who have worked with them on juvenile law matters.
  • Check for certifications or memberships: Look for memberships in organizations like the National Juvenile Defender Center (NJDC) or certifications in juvenile law, which can indicate a lawyer’s dedication to representing minors.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first consultation with a juvenile law lawyer, it’s important to come prepared with relevant documents and information. Here’s what you should bring:

  • Court documents: Bring any legal documents related to your child’s case, such as summons, complaints, or court orders.
  • School records: Provide any relevant school records, including disciplinary reports, attendance records, and communications from school officials.
  • CPS or investigation reports: If your case involves child welfare, bring any reports or documentation from CPS or other investigating agencies.
  • Timeline of events: Prepare a detailed timeline of events related to your child’s legal issue, including interactions with authorities or school officials.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Write down any questions about the legal process, your child’s rights, and potential outcomes for the case.

Being well-prepared will help the lawyer assess your child’s situation more effectively and provide the best possible legal advice tailored to your needs.
