Outstanding Legal Representation – Highly Recommended! I cannot express enough gratitude for the exceptional legal services provided by Smith & Vinson. Facing serious charges, I was terrified about the potential consequences, including jail time, fines, and probation. However, Charlie Falck expertly navigated my case with unmatched professionalism and skill. From our first meeting, it was clear that Charlie was deeply knowledgeable and dedicated to securing the best possible outcome. They took the time to thoroughly understand my situation, explain the legal process, and keep me informed every step of the way. Their strategy was thoughtful, precise, and ultimately, incredibly effective. Thanks to Charlie’s expertise, I received the best outcome I could have hoped for—**no jail time, no fines, and no probation**. Their hard work and commitment to my case not only kept me out of jail but also allowed me to move forward with my life without the burden of legal penalties. If you need an attorney who is compassionate, skilled, and will fight tirelessly on your behalf, I highly recommend Smith & Vinson. They are truly a lifesaver!

I searched around and spoke to a few lawyers that didn’t want to take my simple divorce case. I continued searching, and then found the Shannon Family Law Firm. The reviews are not perfect, but overall there seemed to be more pleased clients who used them. So I decided to call and I won’t go into a lot of detail, but I have spoken with the paralegal Jodie Ward-House and attorney Richard Shannon whom I have decided to hire for my case. Jodie and Richard have been very kind and thorough in explaining the details of how my particular case should work if all goes well. My case is new and just starting. I may post another review in the future about this firm after my case is finished. However, based on the previous phone conversation I had with Jodie and phone consultation I had with Richard Shannon was very pleasing. We’ll see how this goes. I would recommend them if need consultation about a divorce case. I have a better understanding about my particular case.

I'm a big fan of ABD&M. They are a professional group of folks who know their business. Noel Stout is my preferred counsel and he is always thoughtful, to the point, kind and has an eye toward resolution. Unfortunately, in my industry I've had far too many experiences with poor quality attorneys and I can say without hesitation that the things that seem to matter are the facts AND the attorney's knowledge level. Put yourself in good hands and hire these guys.

I am involved in a custody issue spanning two states and involving both state's laws as well as federal law. As one can imagine, this is nerve-wracking. Mr Moore took his time explaining in digestible bits, what is actually happening, how to best prepare and which areas to focus on. He made me feel utterly comfortable and allowed me to ask my never ending litany of questions. Dont let his calm demeanor fool you. He is a cunning strategist! What I really liked about my consult is he was willing to help me understand realistically what I am facing, without leaving me feeling scared. I can't say this next part enough: he never spoke down to me or made me feel like I am stupid. No matter how basic my question, he answered it with serious thought and patience. A refreshing experience from an attorney. His demeanor made all the difference.

Okay folks. After being audited by the Texas Comptroller and them creating a tax bill of $175,000, I hired Curtis Osterlo to defend me. Long story short, I recorded all of the conversations between Mr. Osterlo and myself. In the beginning, he mentioned the names of people at the Comptroller NOT to talk to. Two months later, while racking up legal fees, he suggested he would circle back around and speak to Jane Doe (one of the people NOT to talk to). That is when I fired him. In my opinion, this law firm is in bed with the Comptroller to generate legal fees. After firing Curtis, I handled my case myself. The comptroller didn't know what to do now? Their boy wonder was out. I proved to the Comptroller I didn't owe the money by emailing a copy of the Federal and State laws. I ended up winning without Curtis. He wanted me to settle and charge me $35,000 for his time. I will never do business in the state of Texas again!

This is either a very convincing internet scam, or John is a very poor lawyer. After paying his invoice I have essentially lost contact. I went to the littlefield building listed as his office online and could not find any record of Coonley law from the folks I talked to. Please choose another firm at all costs. UPDATE: after asking for a refund, John finally had the time of day to speak with me. He agreed to give me a refund for some LLC filing fees I had paid him. (He never got the filing completed). I have since been trying to follow up and actually receive said refund for over 3 weeks now, but still have had no luck. This man is an absolute scumbag and a joke of an attorney. How he is able to practice law is a crime itself. I leave this review in hopes that nobody else ever has to deal with a crook like John like I did.

I initially chose JP Law Office for my divorce case based on their reputation and the promising start I experienced. Nicolette was approachable, proactive, and seemed genuinely committed to guiding me through this challenging time. In the beginning, I felt confident that I was in good hands. Their close attention to detail and prompt responses gave me hope that my case would be handled with the utmost professionalism. However, as the case progressed, I began to notice a concerning shift. What started as a proactive and client-focused approach gradually turned into a frustrating experience. Communication became less frequent, and important aspects of my case seemed to be overlooked or delayed.Instead we were wasting hours in not so important details. It became increasingly clear that the level of care and diligence I initially received was no longer a priority. They were managing different cases but also mine and they had no incentives to spend the hours in the relevant and important details. Unfortunately, this decline in service had significant consequences. Not only did it lead to unnecessary delays, but it also resulted in considerable financial strain and a disastrous sentence. I had expected a higher standard of service, especially considering the costs involved. Instead, I was left feeling that my resources were wasted, with little to show for the time and money invested.

I contacted Mark for a case of mine that was very similar to a case he had in the past. Long story short, Mark was out of town and could not take my case. However, he gave a lot of free advice that helped me to handle it myself. I used the case law established by his previous case to push for what I wanted - and I got it. Additionally, there was a very painful personal loss involved in our case. Mark, while traveling, took time to introduce me to other people experiencing similar grief. He was very kind and considerate. I was really moved by his actions, he had no idea who I was and is a very busy man. If you want a proven winner who also has a heart - this guy. Oh, and READ his other reviews. The negative review I read was ridiculous.

1. Gratitude: Stephen Jon Moss cares and serves as a model for all lawyers seeking to do pro bono phone consultations. He promptly replied to my time-sensitive appeal issue—listening and providing invaluable advice July 7, 2022 free of charge, ending around 6:20 PM after normal business hours—nothing short of a miracle! I will forever value his advice, knowing that high-profile school districts and other clients pay top dollar for his expertise. He even offered me a follow-up call, if needed—illustrating character beyond reproach. 2. Process: Within about 2 hours after completing the Lawyer Referral Service (“LRS”) succinct online form, Mr. Moss’ profile appeared in my Inbox. I thought I needed a lawyer to represent me, immediately, but realized as we exceeded the 30-minute window that what I needed was sound pro se legal advice to comply with the court timeline. I noted my visit to the June 29, 2022 Austin Bar Association Lockhart Veterans Legal Clinic. Seeing attorneys eager to help with few veterans present made me vow to bridge the disconnect. Too many veterans need help to thwart homelessness or other legal issues despite attorneys like Mr. Moss willing to help through LRS or in-person. 3. Anecdote: At the outset, Mr. Moss reminded me of my value as a veteran. His ROTC experience connected us, too. “I’m a quick learner,” I said. “Just point me in the right direction.” Mr. Moss listened intently and answered all of my questions then strategized, helping me create a “To-Do List” to plan what, when, and how to file along with next steps. The following day I headed to Texas State Law Library then filed an answer and timely submitted my appeal, accordingly. 4.Hope: Now, I see the glass as half-full and plan to share the value of LRS and Mr. Moss’ legal expertise. Responsive, respectful, resilient: He was a perfect match. I highly recommend Mr. Moss’ service. It was, indeed, a blessing!

Some say that it’s impossible to prove a negative. Stephen Moss was able to do just this when I was unfairly terminated over a 7-year old’s misrepresentation of a short conversation we had in public in a school cafeteria. While an employee can be terminated in Texas without cause, Mr. Moss was logically able to explain to the Texas Education Agency’s investigator how the allegations against me were not only illogical but impossible. As a Foster and Adoptive Parent of two now grown kids I was appalled at what I had been accused of and summarily dismissed without being given a formal chance to defend myself. And I knew I needed help. Mr. Moss listened to what I had to say, researched the law in question and with a single letter to the State Agency’s investigator explained that not only was any part of the law violated, the school district’s investigation was woefully inadequate and the conclusions reached preposterous. Mr. Moss’s written correspondence was so compelling that the State investigator closed the investigation without even a formal hearing, potentially saving me thousands of dollars in unnecessary legal fees. Thank you Mr. Moss for protecting my reputation!

I have been dealing with them for almost 5 years now in regards to the 3m lawsuit. After 5 year, I’ve learned that they only care about making money and do NOT care about the client. I have sent tons of emails over 5 years. Sometimes I get a generic response, but the email doesn’t come close to answering my questions. I know they are dealing with a lot of clients but not one answer from them in 5 years. That’s ridiculous. If you’re looking for a firm that will listen to you and take their time, look elsewhere.

I spoke to Adam Meury as I was referred his name through my Legal Services. Adam was very nice and helpful in all my questions related to a petition my daughter received. Provided the fee’s I needed to hire him. He stated he needed to speak to my daughter first as it was regarding her. I was excited and made my daughter aware how nice he was. My daughter spoke to him and it was a totally different Adam she spoke to. He was rude to my daughter and not quite sure if it’s because she is young or not- no excuse for the way he acted. He wouldn’t let my daughter speak any more on the issue and told my daughter “He doesn’t make the laws in Texas. Good luck in finding a lawyer to represent you.” Second experience with a family lawyer in Texas and I am just shocked and amazed at how rude and dismissive they are to someone willing to pay the monies needed to hire them. I do not recommend him at all.

Unfortunately, I echo the previous reviewer. I was referred to Mr. Muery thorough Hyatt Legal (May 2019), 5 months later nothing has been completed. A request to speak to Mr. Muery directly was ignored, and emails go unanswered for several business days. I was forwarded to at least 3 associates to "quickly resolve" the lack of completion..to only have the same results...nothing completed. Recently (Oct 2019) I called Hyatt Legal to complain about his results and they notified me that he no longer is a member....explains why he's not working on my cases. Instead of being professional and stating he no longer accepts Hyatt Legal Members, he chose just to blow me off and let my cases go dormat.

The fact this business is supported through extortion and unlawful acts that are considered crimes because they are at work forcing people to pay their way through life so they don’t have to actually work is a complete crime against our gos given rights. Don’t pay but make sure to send notarized and certified mail asking why they think it’s okay to take our god given rights away so they don’t have to actually work. Ask them why they think it’s okay to enslave us through policies and take the rights gave you away. International "legal giant" Holland Knight has continuously refused to provide my legal files while abetting Alex "Sandy Hook" Jones's ongoing conspiracy with their former law partner Eric Taube whom they continued to advertise as a "trusted advisor" while having transcripts of Taube's inconsistent sworn statements/perjury in the hearing on my Motion to Disqualify in in U.S. Bankruptcy Court (Tex. This fraud is not just bad for me, but it involves property that Taube conspiratorially formed in breaches of duty to me and to the entities he advised me to form, one of which he represented (without waiver or disclosure of conflict of interest (Free Speech Systems, LLC)) with Alex Jones, David Jones, and Carol Jones, whose tortious interference, fiduciary breaches, fraudulent transfers and fraud have been ongoing for over ten years. We were sent to Kathy through our employer at a discounted rate and Kathy treated us like we were discounted customers. I'd say representing us in mediation was an overstatement. She rushed us through mediation because she had another client and our wishes for the updated order were inaccurate due to her rushing. When we emailed her to follow up on anything, she was like a robot that would just forward our email to the other lawyer. She didn't put any thought or effort into anything. She just forwarded emails between the people involved but never stood up for us when the other lawyer was incorrect. She was late on meeting the deadline for submitting our new order for child support and we were left to take the money out of our checks ourselves, instead of it coming from our employer properly and no one could agree on the correct amount we would owe. We submitted money to the other parent through our bank per the lawyers orders and 6 months later we were in trouble with the attorney general saying we never paid. They wouldn't even accept the payment. Our lawyer Kathy said we wouldn't even owe because they missed the deadline with submitting the be order but that wasn't true. We paid anyway and then it didn't even count. Then we owed more money. All because she didn't do her job. That and when we emailed her after mediation she told us we would owe more money to retain her to keep working with her. When she didn't even finish the job and we were now fighting over money owed because the lawyers missed the damn deadline!! She's the worst. Never ever ever hire her. She seems okay until you pay her and she deems her job over. She doesn't care at all.

This man is a risk management attorney for The University of Texas Physicians Healthcare System, and he was assigned to my case when my doctor, Michael Greaser, severely injured me. As I begged Mr. Boughal for healthcare help, I was stunned to see how dishonest he was, and how neglectful he was. When I wrote him and my doctor a note letting them know of my desperation, fear and suicidal feelings, he got right back to me telling that my note was "embarrassing, annoying and a waste of time". I have found numerous other patients that have been injured by doctors with The University of Texas Physicians, whose case had been referred to Tim Boughal who had similar experiences as mine. As one of them told me, "in my darkest and most desperate hour, I felt that Mr Boughal treated me like I was a dead dog on the side of the interstate". I just thought that, on behalf of many, it is time to point out how this man conducts his affairs. Because, to repeat, when I told him how injured I was - and that I was thinking of taking my own life - he felt it appropriate to tell me that I was "annoying" him. I will take that note with me to my grave. Thank you for allowing me to get these facts out to the public so that, if somebody is forced to deal with Mr. Boughal, they are a bit more knowledgeable about exactly who they are dealing with than the rest of us have been.

What a Lawsuit / Dispute Lawyer Can Do for You

A lawsuit or dispute lawyer, often referred to as a litigation lawyer, specializes in handling legal conflicts between individuals, businesses, or organizations. These lawyers represent clients in civil lawsuits, helping to resolve disputes through negotiation, mediation, arbitration, or litigation in court. They can assist with a wide range of disputes, including contract disagreements, property disputes, business conflicts, personal injury claims, and more.

If you are involved in a legal conflict and need representation, a dispute lawyer can guide you through the litigation process - from filing or defending against a lawsuit to negotiating settlements or representing you at trial.

When Should I Hire a Lawsuit / Dispute Lawyer?

You should consider hiring a lawsuit or dispute lawyer when you're involved in a legal disagreement that cannot be resolved informally and may require legal action. Common reasons to hire a lawyer include:

  • Breach of contract: If someone has failed to fulfill the terms of a contract, a lawyer can help you file a lawsuit to seek damages or enforce the agreement.
  • Business disputes: Whether it's a partnership disagreement, shareholder conflict, or a dispute with a supplier or customer, a lawyer can help resolve business-related issues.
  • Property disputes: If you're involved in a dispute over property ownership, boundary issues, or landlord-tenant conflicts, a lawyer can assist in resolving the matter.
  • Personal injury claims: If you were injured due to someone else's negligence and are seeking compensation, a lawyer can represent you in a personal injury lawsuit.
  • Debt collection or defense: If you're being sued for unpaid debts or need to collect a debt owed to you, a lawyer can represent you in court or negotiate settlements.
  • Employment disputes: If you're involved in an employment-related dispute, such as wrongful termination or discrimination, a lawyer can help you file a claim and represent you in court.
  • Defending against a lawsuit: If you've been sued, a lawyer can defend you against the claims, challenge the evidence, and negotiate a settlement or represent you at trial.

Hiring a lawyer early in the process can help ensure that your case is properly managed and that your rights are protected throughout the dispute resolution process.

What Does a Lawsuit / Dispute Lawyer Do?

A lawsuit or dispute lawyer provides a wide range of services to help clients navigate legal conflicts and seek resolution. Their tasks typically include:

  • Evaluating your case: Reviewing the facts and evidence to determine the strength of your case or defense and advising you on the best course of action.
  • Filing lawsuits or responding to lawsuits: If you're the plaintiff, the lawyer will file a lawsuit on your behalf. If you're the defendant, they will respond to the lawsuit and build a defense strategy.
  • Gathering evidence: Collecting and reviewing evidence such as contracts, emails, financial records, and witness statements to support your case.
  • Handling negotiations: Negotiating with the opposing party to reach a settlement before the case goes to trial, which can save time and money.
  • Representing you in court: Presenting your case in court if a settlement cannot be reached, including presenting evidence, questioning witnesses, and making legal arguments on your behalf.
  • Exploring alternative dispute resolution (ADR): Suggesting mediation or arbitration as alternatives to a trial, which can be faster and less expensive.
  • Drafting legal documents: Preparing and filing necessary legal documents such as complaints, motions, and responses, as well as drafting settlement agreements if a resolution is reached.

How Are Lawsuit / Dispute Lawyers Paid?

The fee structure for lawsuit or dispute lawyers varies depending on the complexity of the case, the type of dispute, and the lawyer's experience. Common payment methods include:

  • Hourly rate: Many lawsuit lawyers charge by the hour, especially for cases that require extensive preparation, research, and trial work. Hourly rates typically range from $150 to $500 or more, depending on the lawyer’s experience and location.
  • Contingency fee: In certain cases, such as personal injury or breach of contract claims, a lawyer may work on a contingency fee basis. This means they only get paid if they win the case, usually taking a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of the settlement or damages awarded.
  • Flat fee: For specific services, such as filing a simple lawsuit or representing you in mediation, some lawyers may charge a flat fee.
  • Retainer: In complex cases or long-term litigation, a lawyer may ask for a retainer, which is an upfront payment to secure their services. The lawyer will then bill against the retainer as they work on the case.

Discuss the fee structure with your lawyer during the initial consultation to understand how fees will be handled throughout the case.

How Much Does a Lawsuit / Dispute Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawsuit or dispute lawyer depends on the complexity of the case, the lawyer's experience, and the fee structure they use. General cost estimates include:

  • Hourly rates: Lawyers may charge between $150 and $500 per hour, with higher rates for more experienced attorneys or cases requiring extensive trial preparation.
  • Contingency fees: If your lawyer works on a contingency basis, expect them to take 25% to 40% of any settlement or court award. For example, if you win $100,000 and the contingency fee is 33%, the lawyer would receive $33,000.
  • Flat fees: For less complex disputes or tasks, such as drafting a settlement agreement or representing you in mediation, flat fees may range from $1,000 to $5,000, depending on the scope of work.
  • Retainers: Some lawyers require an upfront retainer fee, which can range from $5,000 to $20,000 or more, depending on the case complexity and expected litigation length.

Make sure to ask for a detailed breakdown of fees during your consultation so you know what to expect.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawsuit / Dispute Lawyer

Ensure the lawyer has handled similar disputes and is familiar with the relevant area of law.

  3. What is the likelihood of success in my case?
Ask for an honest assessment of your case and potential challenges.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawsuit / Dispute Lawyer

To ensure you're hiring a reputable lawyer, take the following steps:

  • Check their bar status: Confirm with your state bar association that the lawyer is licensed and has no disciplinary actions.
  • Look for relevant experience: Review their website or professional profile to ensure they specialize in litigation or dispute resolution.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for feedback on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google.
  • Ask for references: A credible lawyer should provide references from past clients.
  • Check for professional affiliations: Membership in organizations like the American Bar Association’s Section of Litigation can indicate expertise.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting, bring the following:

  • Contracts or agreements: Copies of any signed contracts or relevant agreements.
  • Emails and communications: Any written communication between you and the other party.
  • Evidence of the dispute: Receipts, financial records, photos, or witness statements related to the conflict.
  • Timeline of events: A clear chronology of the dispute, including key dates and interactions.

Being well-prepared will help the lawyer assess your case effectively and provide you with the best legal advice on how to proceed.
