I would choose another firm if I had to handle my probate matter again. The firm’s accountant failed to send invoices for nearly three months worth of work, leading me to receive a surprise notice that I would need to re-up the full retainer within a week or have my case deprioritized. Receipt of invoices via the firm’s web portal was guaranteed in initial consultation to prevent against this very circumstance. The overall experience was highly unprofessional and adversarial — two things you never want in your advisor. I had a mind to file a formal grievance, but hopefully the firm takes this criticism constructively to improve the quality of its operations for other clients.

I hate to leave negative reviews but this was the worst experience I’ve ever had with an attorney or business in recent memory. Terrible service and no sense of care or urgency. No one responds to emails and there is no accountability. They act very professional to get your retainer and then you’re up a creek without a paddle. After finally cancelling services it took over 6 weeks of pestering them to get our remaining 1800 retainer back. Please look elsewhere for a good experience.

We were incredibly please with our attorney, Kathryn Karam, at Quan Law. She was very patient with answering all of our questions and kept us updated of our case status along the way. Each time there was a hiccup, and boy did we have a few, she always had a plan to move forward and presented us with our options. Hi everyone, I want to share my experience with Eraka to help others make informed decisions. I hired and paid her back in March, and although she initially assured me she was on top of my case, her communication became inconsistent, and I eventually stopped hearing from her. In August, she informed me that she had been in an accident, which explained her lack of attention to my case, though I wasn’t informed of this earlier.
To protect yourself, I highly recommend checking her name on the Texas Bar site and doing thorough research to ensure you're hiring the right attorney for your needs. A detail I discovered later is that her real last name is Watson, but she is currently going by Childs.
I gave her multiple chances, but ultimately, I felt that my case was not taken seriously. Additionally, after posting a previous review, I was contacted multiple times by her assistants, who asked me to remove the review, claiming it would reflect poorly on me. This made me feel uncomfortable and pressured.
Please do your due diligence when selecting a lawyer to represent you. My experience with Eraka was not what I had hoped for, and I encourage others to thoroughly research before making a decision.

If you want a good attorney, Erika Childs is definitely someone that I would recommend. She isn't going to sugar coat your situation, but analyze what's best for YOU and the Child. I have been having problems, of an ethical nature, for a long time regarding the gross conduct of Mr. Lopez. Yes, I have tried to handle this matter on my own by faxes but to no avail. I tried recently to have mediation but he "declined." He is a man of bad faith and ill will towards me. Mr. Lopez did not have a web site when I hired him. In May, 2018, when I discovered his web site, I found out that he deals with employment law only 10% of the time in his practice (he changed it to 20% after I wrote to him). I faxed him in May, 2018, that had he informed me at the $800 consultation he charged, I would not had paid him $16,000 to take my HISD termination case which lasted a few days. Even 20% is too inexperienced (and it showed) to represent me. I was a teacher (24 years) and $16,800 is a lot of money to pay anyone. And it gets worse. Once my check cleared my bank, he and his office manager/wife started treating me with gross disrespect. For example, he constantly put me down verbally and demonstrated how out-of-his-element he was at my brief termination hearing. He did not even give a closing so that he did not have to come back after Memorial Day. The hearing was decided against me and I had to fire him immediately and represent myself in front of the HISD School Board. I had no more money to appeal. I am most willing to take a modern and upgraded polygraph, is Mr. Lopez? All of the above has been written in my faxes to him which he completely has ignored. I also put all of the above in my mediation which he declined to participate.

Mr. Lopez defended me when a previous employer tried to prevent me from working with my clients that I had cultivated over the past 20 plus years. The case was very complex involving the security industry, fiduciary duties and a time line that went back over those 20 years. I felt that at all times David had my best interest in mind. Numerous times he reached out to the prosecuting attorney to try to settle outside the court. Although the case lasted 8 months I felt that David stayed a step ahead of the other side and kept me in the loop. David is very tactical in his approach. Always thinking one or two steps ahead of the opposition. I sought Mr. Lopez's advice before I left my previous employer. His recommendations proved to be right on the money. I was able to retain almost 100% of my clients going forward. David is highly skilled at getting to the heart of the matter with his verbal and written communications. When it comes to depositions and examining the other side he is quick to the point and very decisive. At times I almost felt sorry for the other side that was being questioned. You want an attorney that is no nonsense and that wont waist everyone's time with meaningless questions. David Lopez is that attorney. He truly cares about his clients and will go above and beyond to get a satisfactory outcome. I highly recommend David Lopez and his entire staff. My advice for anyone who is contemplating moving firms with a clientele that is important to you is to hire David early and listen to his advice.
