In our experience, we found that Leslie lives up to her promises and philosophies 100% of the time. She is also so compassionate and easy to talk to. Actively listens during the initial consultation and then provides a realistic opinion of the case followed by a robust and specific plan of action. This is what stood out the most to me due to the fact that this is similarly how I operate when working with my clients. Another thing that made securing Leslie for our legal representation is that fact that she's a straight shooter who clearly communicated to my wife and I how her fees would accrue and to whom certain tasks would be delegated to (Paralegal Assistant) in an attempt to keep our costs as low as possible. Looking back on this unfortunate situation, that my wife and I found ourselves in, it still creates an emotions of sadness and unbelief that it had to come down to litigation to be resolved. We have been married for several years. We both had existing children from prior marriages, so we have what would be described as a "blended family." Over the years, my wife and I have maintained a stable home for us and the children but as the youngest of the children became a teenager, my wife was experiencing some debilitating health challenges. Coupled with the fact that we have an active teenager involved in extra curricular activities, undoubtedly our expenses increased and income decreased which in turn created financial challenges. My wife's former employer happened to be friends with Leslie and upon her learning about our situation, she quickly referred us to Leslie and made the introduction. Me being one who reads Google Reviews before making a purchasing or hiring decision, browsed the Olson-Olson webpage and found this quote that really stood out to me, "Our philosophy is pretty simple: we like serving you well. We like making you happy. We do that by listening carefully to what you tell us. We do it by working hard for you. We do it by applying to your case, the wisdom and skill gained from years in and out of the courtroom." Let me tell you that we found that Olson-Olson thoroughly lives us to their philosophy! Here's a snippet from Leslie's bio, "The story of money reveals the truth and can often tip the balance in questions of credibility..." and let me say it again, that just recalling the events that led up to and throughout our legal case revolving around unpaid and overdue child support, almost brings me to tears. Yes, in our case the story of money revealed some ugly truths. My wife's ex husband was order to pay child support all along; dating back several years! Since this order pre-dated me, I wasn't fully aware of the facts, but it had always bothered me that her ex wasn't paying the full amount of child support. I won't go into all the horrendous details as to why this person wasn't paying their fair share of child support, but I will say this... Leslie made it crystal clear that just because a woman remarries, her ex isn't excused from their financial obligations. When confronted with this matter of unpaid and overdue child support, the ex challenged the claim and because of that it was set for arbitration. Throughout that process, Leslie was super organized, thoughtful in how she prepped us to give testimony and masterfully gathered and analyzed financial evidence that ultimately resulted in a very favorable resolution for us. If you're dealing with a Family Law issue and you have questions about who's the best to hire to represent you, I highly recommend Leslie Olson & Olson-Olson, PLLC without hesitation. They have the character, resources and a host of other legal expertise that will get you the desired outcome! Thank you Leslie, Mark & Greg! We appreciate you!

Deborah Nelson and this firm receive my highest praise and recommendation. Their dedication and attention to detail went above and beyond expectation. I could not have endured dealing with my insurance carrier (after a car wreck caused by an uninsured motorist) without them. I am grateful I had their representation and support throughout this endeavor.

Nelson Boyd Attorneys represented me in a bicycle crash and did an excellent job. They are a caring, professional team, where I got the benefit of them both working on my case together. Each brought their individual strengths to my representation. As much as a legal intervention is an inherently stressful undertaking, Nelson Boyd made the experience as low-stress as possible. They did this by being good listeners, providing assurances that they were fighting for me, providing prompt and excellent communications, and always doing what they said they would do. My suit was settled satisfactorily (they worked on contingency) prior to reaching court, which was preferable since it took nearly two years to get to that point-- though not due to any fault of Nelson Boyd. Going to court would likely have taken another six months or longer. My case involved personal injury and I would highly recommend this team to anyone needing this sort of representation -- and probably other issues, as well. At minimum, it will be worth your while to call them to discuss your problem.

As a court reporter with 40+ year of experience working with top-tier attorneys across the state and nation, I knew right away when deciding to pursue litigation on behalf of two sisters who had been badly abused and neglected and fell through the cracks of proper child protective care that Rebecca Roe and Sergio Garcidueñas-Sease at the Law Office of Schroeter Goldmark & Bender would be the perfect people to represent them in their search for justice. Also, Ben Gauen, Virginia Mendoza, and Alison Mabbutt were a part of this stellar team. These attorneys and their staff members were all extremely sensitive and discreet in every aspect of navigating the litigation process and worked diligently to gather necessary information from over 30,000 pages of documents that were produced relating to their case, which also included talking to countless witnesses. In the end, through their zealous advocacy, they negotiated what all believed to be a very fair and generous resolution for the sisters. The sisters are incredibly grateful to Becky, Sergio, and the rest of the team. Thank you for your excellent representation, infused with kindness and a personal touch. Let the healing begin.

My life was destroyed after I was horrifically attacked due to landlord negligence. I was really afraid for my future and didn't know where to turn. Initially, I sought help through other attorneys and was denied. When Schroeter Goldmark & Bender agreed to take my case, I finally felt a sliver of hope. They continued to fight for me diligently for years. Even when they could have easily given up after a judge wrongfully dismissed my case. They provided continual support, encouragement, assistance and comfort throughout this lengthy and arduous battle. Ultimately their perseverance, tenacity, determination and commitment resulted in a significant settlement in which I am able to comfortably look forward to my future instead of living in fear of it. When I think of my time with Cindy Wysocki, Esq., tears of deep gratitude literally come to my eyes as I recall her strength and gentleness, her humor and sharp critical thinking, her willingness to get into the ultimate fighting cage we call the judicial system and her reluctance to throw a punch, and her commitment to fairness and open-hearted compassion. To the lawyer or firm across the virtual table, Cindy must seem formidable and relentless. To me as her client-friend, she was comforting, encouraging, and grounding. I never had to yield my voice or stuff down my questions. AND, Cindy held my concerns and fears, my heightened emotions and (sometimes) clear intuitive insights respectfully while guiding them in positive, productive ways. And best of all, Cindy knew me well enough at the end of a grueling process to be able to then assist and guide me in my needs to safeguard my estate and financial assets to be sure to leave them secure for the ones I love the most. Above all, I am forever grateful to Cindy for accompanying me as a caring fellow human being during one of the most devastating times of my personal life journey. She stayed by my side through unprecedented conditions, with unconditional care and concern, as one of the few who did in my life. Cindy is a legal Bodhisattva!!

Kathleen took the conflict out of our high conflict divorce. After a ten month stalemate, she helped us reach an agreement in just four hours with effective shuttle mediation. Kathleen has the perfect combination of warmth and intelligence that allowed me to relax and think clearly. I am very satisfied with the agreement because I know she understood what was most important to me. I felt respected and heard. Her focus on the numbers made it easy to set the emotions aside and get the job done.

Kathleen Royer mediated between my co parent and I. She is a nice lady whom obviously has a lot of experience in the legal system. She understood the legal system well and could it explain it well. However, she did very little "mediating" of core issues that stood between us. It seemed like she was more of just a 3rd party messenger between our two rooms. I got the feeling that her goal wasn't true mediation, but just to get us two to an acceptable level in the eyes of the law, by having us agree on typical and standard arrangements. She asked me to pick my battles, but would not acknowledge that the other party was not playing nice. By legal definition, she did her job. But I wouldn't expect her to sooth or heal any wounds that exist between parties.

Does not listen very well to his client, nor did he believe in his client/me. Accounting practices leave very much to be desired, missed numerous entries/expenses and the math was horrible. Has a negative attitude about the Judges and failed to counter the Mediator on numerous questionable decisions. Nice guy, just not a fighter. In my opinion, If payment was based on his performance, he would owe me money. Five year Sham

I can’t say enough about Selby Brown from Summit Law Group. She's not just any lawyer; she's the beacon of hope you wish for when everything else seems to fall apart. I found Selby when I was at my lowest, and after a horrible experience with two other lawyers. Facing a situation with a business partner who nearly wrecked me financially and emotionally, Selby was a game-changer. What really sets Selby apart isn't just her sharp business law and litigation skills; it's her unparalleled patience and genuine care. Imagine diving into a legal battle, feeling out of depth, and then there's Selby. She didn't just guide me; she made the complex legal world accessible to me. For someone for whom English is a second language, and who finds the legal world as challenging as learning a third language, her patience and clarity was priceless. Selby took the time to meticulously explain every legal procedure and after every discussion, she followed up with an email summarizing our conversation and outlining the next steps. This might sound simple, but it was a breath of fresh air compared to my previous experiences with 2 other lawyers. Other lawyers left me in the dark, not bothering to confirm they'd received my emails or to clarify my doubts. Selby's responsiveness and dedication to keeping me in the loop were not just helpful; they were a stark contrast to what I'd faced before and immensely valuable. I can’t emphasize enough how important this was for me and helped me not fall into severe depression. Selby was also incredibly mindful of the costs involved, making every effort to minimize expenses without cutting corners on her services. Though I decided to drop the case, it wasn't a loss. Thanks to Selby, I came out of the ordeal emotionally intact, with a wealth of knowledge about our judicial system. This understanding has been instrumental in preparing me for my next venture. After this experience, I've turned to Selby and Summit Law Group for all my business-related legal needs with my new company. Selby is my first point of contact for a wide range of business law issues, from company formations to business disputes and trial litigations. What sets them apart is not just their comprehensive knowledge but also their network of specialized expertise. Whenever a situation arises that falls outside their direct scope of services, Selby ensures I’m connected with the right experts within their network. This holistic approach to legal support makes Selby and Summit Law Group indispensable to me and my business.

Chris recently spoke on the phone with my wife during a free phone consultation session. Chris made hurtful comments to her such as "sounds like you can't afford me" and "maybe they just don't like you" - referring to the School District people. My wife is Hispanic and what he said to my wife, was hurtful, rude and obnoxious. Who does he think he is? Are we small people not worthy of his mightiness? My wife asked questions about specific laws and Chris didn't seem to know much about them, despite being an advocate to children's rights. He's a white man, my wife is Hispanic, asking for help, being told she can't afford him. Well, we can. But we won't ever hire anyone from this company because of Chris' hurtful comments. My wife was in distress and we were both stunned by his attitude. We asked ourselves: 'did he sound racist towards us?'.

Consultation: told fees would be $3000 retainer and $300 to $400 hourly rate. Lawyer informed me I sounded like I would not be able afford it. This he based solely on my voice: a voice with a heavy ethnic, non-European accent. Never was my household income discussed at any one point or did he ever pose a question about my household income. It was solely based on presumption. However, indeed these quoted hourly rates are at the high end of hourly fees charged by attorneys. They are above the average rate. I suppose, in the wealthy Seattle areas is where is feasible. I explained my reason for needing a lawyer was due to retaliatory treatment from the school district after complaining about mistreatment against my Special Needs child. His response was: "sounds like they just don't like you, sounds like you have annoyed them". (imagine one gets beaten up by someone and one is told, sounds like you got beaten up because they don't like you, because you annoyed them, as though one would be deserving of being beaten up because they just don't like one).

I’m a criminal defense lawyer with 45 years of experience, so when it came to my own difficult, complicated divorce, I knew I needed the best lawyer possible. My first lawyer was, at best, mediocre. Then, during a court zoom hearing a couple of months into my divorce, I watched and listened to Cynthia First representing another petitioner. It took me five minutes to make the decision to see if she would represent me. I know lawyers and the quality of what they do, having worked with or opposite as many as 400 of them. There are three at the top of the list, lawyers who are brilliant, caring, dedicated. Ms First is one of those three. She’s super smart and knowledgeable not only about the law but also about people and situations. Her skills in representation go beyond that: She cares about her clients. My emails were answered immediately, even during off hours. Superlative representation. Class act. Terrific person, terrific lawyer. (I also want to thank Peggy, the paralegal, whose organization and hard work made things so much better and easier for me.)

My experience with Ms, Koler did not have a good outcome. I used her in a land use case in 2004. She started out appearing to be a decent lawyer but when my wife left me she decided she didn't like me but liked her. She had this "I'm better than you attitude" toward me and she didn't bother to tell me the last two times she went to court with my case. These two times that I should have been in court was for settlement damages from Snohomish County and as a result I was only awarded $1 dollar for denile of due process (actually my ex wife got that so I didn't actually get anything personally but the court awarded her fee to be payed by Snohomish County. I see she was disciplined by the State in 2014 which doesn't surprise me.

I've known Jane Koler about 30 years and recently needed her help with some land use matters: a boundary dispute and a tax foreclosure sale of property. She was professional in every way and helped me immeasurably to secure results. I know her to be ethical, hard-working, and highly knowledgeable in her field. Would not hesitate to use her again. I'm aware that the bar association sanctioned her over a technical discovery issue, but in my opinion it didn't amount to a hill of beans and doesn't change my opinion of her one bit.

Jane Koler is an excellent attorney. She assisted me with a zoning penalty action. She has an excellent abilty to analyze zoning problems. She thought of a great solution to our problem and convinced city officials to accept it. The city withdrew its penalty order. She has an excellent ability to analyze city codes and think of creative theories, Jane Koler works very effectively with City officials. She has deep and extensive knowledge of land use law and as well as constitutional law which she utiliized in solving our problem.

I have to say Mr. Pellegrini is what every lawyer starts out as, but most don't keep going. A lawyer is someone who is there to guide you through whatever your legal matter is and be your representative in court. He does just that and VERY well. My ex hired Mr. Pellegrini and was dropped because of his craziness in Mr.Pellegrini's office and court. Yelling at the judge instead of letting the lawyer speak doesn't fare well with judges. Angry and throwing a tantrum in court because you expected your lawyer to sway the judge not to give you anger management after years of domestic violence is borderline 'western state hospital' ready. Mr. Pellegrini has morals and values and takes his oath seriously. He terminated his representation of my ex for the above situations as well as my ex's criminal atty did for my ex violating a restraining order and trying to gain attention by taking pills to overdose. We need more lawyers like Mr. Pellegrini and Royce Ferguson. Thank you. You didn't work for me, but both could see that this person was clearly not right.

Wayne conducted a mediation to finalize a Parenting Plan with my intransigent (as one judge diplomatically put it), ex-wife. He did a fantastic job helping to negotiate a fair visitation schedule where my ex previously had complete control. Wayne is very considerate & knowledgeable and I would highly recommend him!

Wayne handled mediation between my daughter's father and I in August of 2012 and the outcome has literally changed our lives for the better. During my divorce, I was pro se and ex was represented by a snake-ish Spokane attorney. Multiple judges, commissioners, and attorneys in Snohomish County have had negative reaction after reading the old parenting plan...they shook their heads in disbelief. One commissioner said "This looks like it came from Lincoln County" which is where people handle their own divorces and do not know what they are doing. One attorney through CLEAR said "I don't know what judge would have approved this!"...it was THAT bad and it was completely biased and in favor of my ex. He tortured me with that plan for several years and bullied me and threatened me with contempt if I did not do everything he wanted. My daughter was traveling up to 4 weekends a month between Seattle and Spokane and on school nights just to comply with this plan. We would often arrive home after midnight on Sundays after enduring treacherous road conditions on Snoqualmie Pass. I am now very happy with our parenting plan as my daughter now never has to travel more than twice per month and her father now pays all airfare during the school year and we meet halfway during the summer. There are now also several provisions in the plan which make it very difficult for my ex to bully me or pull the crazy stuff he was doing before such as making numerous CPS reports against me, taking my daughter to Doctors and mental health specialist reporting false symptoms and behaviors as a way of trying to set up a custody battle. His power is now very limited thanks to the new plan Wayne expertly mediated and got him to agree to. My daughter is also so much healthier now that she is not traveling constantly. She was exhausted and run down and was sick quite literally almost constantly. Since the new plan has been in effect, she has only caught a minor cold or two. Wayne, I know you thought that I wasn't happy when I left your office because the one main thing I wanted, I did not get (getting visits down to once per month) BUT I want you to know that I am VERY happy! You have no idea how much better our lives are now and how much peace of mind I now have knowing that he cannot pull the same crazy stunts trying to gain custody that he was doing before. Thank you very, very much!

She let my kids father's lawyer do all the work. Didn't stick up for me because "we've moved on from that issue" when hospital staff sat in a team meeting at the cps office stating that I was "high as a kite, couldn't stop moving" while at the hospital with my youngest yet the very next day held a hand to the bible and said, " that I was nodding out and falling asleep, insinuating I was on heroin. Both are in our cps records that one day I was high on meth then the next day high on heroin, two very different highs. So she let it go down in my record not caring at all to point out their conflicting stories so instead I continue to get to look like s$#t on paper. Also called her office once for her and her employee to answer the phone going come come Tuesdays and you know people smell and sometimes smell like other people before finally laughing at me and asking what I needed. I could go on with LOTS more how she didn't defend me or my children. Thank the good lord for their fathers attorney and my oldest child's attorney.

She turned in and filed papers late, showed up over 2 hours late for mediation and 4 minutes late to arbitration. When calling to ask about the status of my case, her staff outright lied, telling me she wasn't there, when I later found out she was. At least the firm she was working with fired her. That's how I found out the truth. At least the firm owned up to their and her mistake, but she's not trustworthy or timely in anything concerning my case. I am now on welfare when I was making $60,000 per year, and it's due to her misconduct.

After some financial struggles I had 4 charge offs and 4 collections. I have two cards still that are in good standing and each had two 30 days lates that are 3 years old. My credit score was TransUnion 585, Equifax 583 and Experian 528. I have been facing depression due to my poor credit score. Luckily for me a friend introduced me to PINNACLE CREDIT SPECIALIST who helped me raise my credit score to TransUnion 805, Equifax 809 and Experian 811. Also removed all charge offs, collection and eviction from my credit report. I now have a clean credit report with an Exceptional credit score. He’s the real deal. I have had an excellent experience with CCL and Ms. Choi in the matter of a complicated easement / title situation. The office staff was super responsive, appointments were scheduled quickly and in collaboration with my schedule/availability, and the meetings I had with Ms. Choi were focused, organized, and super productive. I felt that Ms. Choi was prepared for the meetings, understood what I was dealing with, and discussed with me multiple options and potential outcomes regarding this legal matter, which is going to end up in Court. I could not have asked for a better attorney for my situation (and I have consulted with others prior to CCL) and I very much look forward to my ongoing work with CCL and Ms. Choi. I recommend CCL and Ms. Choi wholeheartedly!

I arranged a meeting with her to discuss immigration matters and seek professional validation of the process I had completed on my own. Unfortunately, during our reunion, she seemed more focused on protecting herself than genuinely assisting me. However, when I attended my USCIS appointment today, everything was in order, and the concerns she raised did not materialize. It was a stressful experience unnecessarily.

I did not have a good experience with the law firm. My main issues is that Boyoon Choi would repeatedly interrupt me and cut me off before I could finish speaking and there were some mannerisms like scoffing (in a subtle but noticeable way) that came off as pretty condescending and I received a general negative feeling from the tone of voice she used with me. She was also 6 minutes late to our Zoom meeting but cut our 30 minute meeting short nonetheless so we really only had 24 minutes together. I'm sure she would probably bill the time for 30 minutes to my MetLife benefits and not the 24 minutes that I actually got. The way I see it, if a client does not have the correct understanding then inform them in a respectful way. Trying to be subtle with mannerisms like quietly scoffing or responding with a negative tone, one that felt a bit indignant towards me feels less like you're working with someone that's trying to advocate for you and more like you're talking to someone that's trying to take out whatever stress she may be having towards you. It seems that no wonder her staff seems to sound a bit on edge over the phone as I can imagine what it can be like to be subjected to that over time. She also knew that my home is in Snohomish County but told me that she can't help with the eviction process in that area, but took my money through my MetLife benefit anyway. That's pretty messed up. Lastly, I also felt it was problematic to be told that she did not know the RCW that covered why a 90 day notice to vacate due to sale is not enforceable unless it is specifically mentioned in the lease agreement. When I requested clarification for her to specify how is this the case, she could only tell me it's part of the general landlord tenant rights that a lease agreement has to specify that an early termination can take place due to sale and that this language would not be specifically mentioned due to it being covered under the general umbrella of tenant rights. However, RCW 59.18.650 clearly states it's permissible for a landlord to end a lease agreement early with cause for the purpose of selling a home. Boyoon Choi should really be careful with giving advice that she clearly does not know the basis for. It is concerning when you ask for the RCW that she does not know it, and scoffs at you while mentioning it's part of the general rights for a tenant. Anyways, here is what I was told by another source about the permissibility of ending a lease early to sell the home: In Washington State, typically, if a landlord provides a 90-day notice to vacate for the purpose of selling the property, this is generally considered lawful. In Washington State, the enforceability of a 90-day notice to vacate due to the sale of a property typically does not require a specific clause in the lease agreement stating that sale of the home entails the tenant moving out. The standard process allows landlords to issue such a notice as part of the rights to dispose of their property, assuming other legal and procedural requirements are met (e.g., proper notice period and service). Lastly, she was also incorrect about my MetLife legal benefit. She said I don't have benefits for litigation as part of my benefit but in my MetLife portal it clearly states: "This service covers the Participant as a landlord for matters involving leases, security deposits and disputes with a residential tenant. The service includes attorney services for the eviction of a tenant up to and including trial."

What a Lawsuit / Dispute Lawyer Can Do for You

A lawsuit or dispute lawyer, often referred to as a litigation lawyer, specializes in handling legal conflicts between individuals, businesses, or organizations. These lawyers represent clients in civil lawsuits, helping to resolve disputes through negotiation, mediation, arbitration, or litigation in court. They can assist with a wide range of disputes, including contract disagreements, property disputes, business conflicts, personal injury claims, and more.

If you are involved in a legal conflict and need representation, a dispute lawyer can guide you through the litigation process - from filing or defending against a lawsuit to negotiating settlements or representing you at trial.

When Should I Hire a Lawsuit / Dispute Lawyer?

You should consider hiring a lawsuit or dispute lawyer when you're involved in a legal disagreement that cannot be resolved informally and may require legal action. Common reasons to hire a lawyer include:

  • Breach of contract: If someone has failed to fulfill the terms of a contract, a lawyer can help you file a lawsuit to seek damages or enforce the agreement.
  • Business disputes: Whether it's a partnership disagreement, shareholder conflict, or a dispute with a supplier or customer, a lawyer can help resolve business-related issues.
  • Property disputes: If you're involved in a dispute over property ownership, boundary issues, or landlord-tenant conflicts, a lawyer can assist in resolving the matter.
  • Personal injury claims: If you were injured due to someone else's negligence and are seeking compensation, a lawyer can represent you in a personal injury lawsuit.
  • Debt collection or defense: If you're being sued for unpaid debts or need to collect a debt owed to you, a lawyer can represent you in court or negotiate settlements.
  • Employment disputes: If you're involved in an employment-related dispute, such as wrongful termination or discrimination, a lawyer can help you file a claim and represent you in court.
  • Defending against a lawsuit: If you've been sued, a lawyer can defend you against the claims, challenge the evidence, and negotiate a settlement or represent you at trial.

Hiring a lawyer early in the process can help ensure that your case is properly managed and that your rights are protected throughout the dispute resolution process.

What Does a Lawsuit / Dispute Lawyer Do?

A lawsuit or dispute lawyer provides a wide range of services to help clients navigate legal conflicts and seek resolution. Their tasks typically include:

  • Evaluating your case: Reviewing the facts and evidence to determine the strength of your case or defense and advising you on the best course of action.
  • Filing lawsuits or responding to lawsuits: If you're the plaintiff, the lawyer will file a lawsuit on your behalf. If you're the defendant, they will respond to the lawsuit and build a defense strategy.
  • Gathering evidence: Collecting and reviewing evidence such as contracts, emails, financial records, and witness statements to support your case.
  • Handling negotiations: Negotiating with the opposing party to reach a settlement before the case goes to trial, which can save time and money.
  • Representing you in court: Presenting your case in court if a settlement cannot be reached, including presenting evidence, questioning witnesses, and making legal arguments on your behalf.
  • Exploring alternative dispute resolution (ADR): Suggesting mediation or arbitration as alternatives to a trial, which can be faster and less expensive.
  • Drafting legal documents: Preparing and filing necessary legal documents such as complaints, motions, and responses, as well as drafting settlement agreements if a resolution is reached.

How Are Lawsuit / Dispute Lawyers Paid?

The fee structure for lawsuit or dispute lawyers varies depending on the complexity of the case, the type of dispute, and the lawyer's experience. Common payment methods include:

  • Hourly rate: Many lawsuit lawyers charge by the hour, especially for cases that require extensive preparation, research, and trial work. Hourly rates typically range from $150 to $500 or more, depending on the lawyer’s experience and location.
  • Contingency fee: In certain cases, such as personal injury or breach of contract claims, a lawyer may work on a contingency fee basis. This means they only get paid if they win the case, usually taking a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of the settlement or damages awarded.
  • Flat fee: For specific services, such as filing a simple lawsuit or representing you in mediation, some lawyers may charge a flat fee.
  • Retainer: In complex cases or long-term litigation, a lawyer may ask for a retainer, which is an upfront payment to secure their services. The lawyer will then bill against the retainer as they work on the case.

Discuss the fee structure with your lawyer during the initial consultation to understand how fees will be handled throughout the case.

How Much Does a Lawsuit / Dispute Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawsuit or dispute lawyer depends on the complexity of the case, the lawyer's experience, and the fee structure they use. General cost estimates include:

  • Hourly rates: Lawyers may charge between $150 and $500 per hour, with higher rates for more experienced attorneys or cases requiring extensive trial preparation.
  • Contingency fees: If your lawyer works on a contingency basis, expect them to take 25% to 40% of any settlement or court award. For example, if you win $100,000 and the contingency fee is 33%, the lawyer would receive $33,000.
  • Flat fees: For less complex disputes or tasks, such as drafting a settlement agreement or representing you in mediation, flat fees may range from $1,000 to $5,000, depending on the scope of work.
  • Retainers: Some lawyers require an upfront retainer fee, which can range from $5,000 to $20,000 or more, depending on the case complexity and expected litigation length.

Make sure to ask for a detailed breakdown of fees during your consultation so you know what to expect.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawsuit / Dispute Lawyer

Before hiring a lawsuit or dispute lawyer, consider asking the following questions:

  1. What experience do you have with cases like mine?
Ensure the lawyer has handled similar disputes and is familiar with the relevant area of law.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Clarify whether they charge hourly, on a contingency fee basis, or offer flat fees, and ask for a detailed cost estimate.
  3. What is the likelihood of success in my case?
Ask for an honest assessment of your case and potential challenges.
  4. Have you handled cases that went to trial?
If a trial is possible, confirm the lawyer has courtroom experience.
  5. How long will the process take?
Get an estimate of the timeline for resolving your dispute.
  6. Will you handle my case personally?
Understand who will manage your case and their level of involvement.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawsuit / Dispute Lawyer

To ensure you're hiring a reputable lawyer, take the following steps:

  • Check their bar status: Confirm with your state bar association that the lawyer is licensed and has no disciplinary actions.
  • Look for relevant experience: Review their website or professional profile to ensure they specialize in litigation or dispute resolution.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for feedback on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google.
  • Ask for references: A credible lawyer should provide references from past clients.
  • Check for professional affiliations: Membership in organizations like the American Bar Association’s Section of Litigation can indicate expertise.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting, bring the following:

  • Contracts or agreements: Copies of any signed contracts or relevant agreements.
  • Emails and communications: Any written communication between you and the other party.
  • Evidence of the dispute: Receipts, financial records, photos, or witness statements related to the conflict.
  • Timeline of events: A clear chronology of the dispute, including key dates and interactions.
  • List of questions: Prepared questions about your case, the legal process, costs, and strategy.

Being well-prepared will help the lawyer assess your case effectively and provide you with the best legal advice on how to proceed.
