We couldn't commend the expertise of Kantor & Kantor more. Zoya, who won our appeal with great success, is a dedicated, detail-oriented professional who stays on top of all areas of your case while compassionately communicating next steps and outcomes. We were so grateful to have her on our team, and because of her clear expertise, excellent handle of the written word, and dedication to this important work, felt confident in what was/is otherwise a scary time. It is disorienting to manage the onset of a debilitating illness while in need of a complex appeal. Her detailed intervention with obvious legal stealth, was essential.

I was diagnosed with a devastating degenerative neurological illness that has grave impacts on all life areas. Per doctor instructions I left the workplace that I once thrived in until my talents began to deteriorate at the hands of this rare and poorly understood neurological disease. In the midst of this devastation, my insurance company flatly ended my disbursements. Knowing affirmatively this was unjust, I consulted Zoya and her supervising partner. They applied great skill, roadmapping, and knowledge of the law to ensure this was an unjust event. She handled my appeal with great detail and legal prowess. I believe the work performed exhibits top talent. Highly recommend for others who feel abandoned by insurance claim coverage without justice.

Michael was a “God Send” to our family. Within one week we were faced with a tenant of over 20 years reporting us to the city for a very small matter and a diagnosis of Stage 4 Prostate Cancer. Needless to say we were quite overwhelmed. Michael not only walked us through the steps dealing with the city. But he did all the negotiating (which I might add, was not easy) with the problem tenant getting him to vacate with very minimal difficulty. In our family, Michael Notaro is “Worth His Weight In Gold” Thank you Michael for everything!

Michael did an amazing job helping my wife and I through an owner move in eviction in Oakland. We initially attempted to do the eviction ourselves but quickly found we were in over our heads. Michael took on our challenging and incredibly stressful situation and quickly simplified the process for us. He was incredibly knowledgeable, patient and honest, as new landlords, we couldn't have asked for better representation. Michael was also very responsive to our questions and concerns always responding to our calls and emails in a very timely manner. Ultimately, Michael got our tenant out and we finally feel we have control over our investment. We are grateful for Michael's excellent work and thankful that we have someone like Michael in our corner.

I feel that many can benefit from working with Michael Notaro, I'm finding other places he's mentioned on the internet. Needless to say, I would hire him again in a heartbeat. I was involved in a very complex case revolving around Owner/HOA relationships and was shopping for a lawyer on Yelp, the Alameda County Bar Association and other internet sources before finding Michael. I had talked to a few other lawyers in the area and just after talking to Michael for 10 minutes (it took that long to explain the situation) my wife and I settled on Michael Notaro for our counsel. Not being well versed in the law, I needed guidance as well as some simple explanations for what to do and what the outcomes were. He made us feel that, even though he was our lawyer, that we were in control and that we were making the decisions. One thing that stuck with me was how well he was able to illustrate options and provide risk/reward analyses of each situation. For example, one of the paths I had chosen had exposed a vulnerability to one of the other parties concerned (I wanted to preserve prior sets of relationships for those interested parties.). Though I was going against his clear warning, he trusted my judgement and provided the most constructive and efficient solution that ended up saving all parties (even those opposed to me) thousands of dollars and months in arbitration, not to mention a few friendships! He was available to consult about the smallest of details. Where I was hung up about wordings on documents and getting stuck on the minutia of legalese, Michael was able to really clear up any issues or concerns that I had. From being in real-estate law so long, his excellent rapport with the other lawyers in the bay area worked to hasten a resolution for everyone that brought real results that were amenable to all parties. I think everyone involved in the case appreciated Michael's handling of it. Lastly, Michael's dedication to protecting his client and the long term bottom line was evident from the moment I walked in his office. He said to me, "I work cases not to just to provide an immediate and expedient judgement, but a lasting one that protects everyone involved." Of course I'm paraphrasing, but you get the point. He wasn't just thinking of this case, but all the other cases that could come up later on. I plan to be in the Bay Area for a long time and it's good to know that I've got someone like Michael Notaro in my corner. Thank you for your hard work, your patience and your tenacity! We are grateful for your service.

The Law Offices of Gordon Fauth took on my legal suit when all other means to settle my case failed. It was at the very last minute to submit the suit before the time expired. However, even though I had little information for them to work with they handled it very professionally and achieved results I did not think possible.

I came across Gordon and one of his associates via the web. I called in the afternoon, forwarded to them mountains of PDF's and E-mails, and by the time we reached their office that evening, they were already well informed and fully ramped-up to deal with our case. My wife and I arrived to their office anxious and distressed; but left with a great sense of relief and confidence. It became obvious within the first few moments of meeting with Gordon that we were in very good hands. Gordon and his associate inquired as to our goals, discussed a strategy, and then like a chess master described with great accuracy the incremental steps that would likely follow. I have never worked with a professional that was as well-informed, ethically grounded, and client-oriented as Gordon. My wife and I were extremely fortunate to of come across Gordon. The representation he provided for us was stellar.

I met Gordon Fauth in 1994-95 when we were both studying at Boalt Hall, and we have remained in touch. When I had need of an attorney for my own case, regarding a contested LLC dissolution, I went to Gordon (who ultimately got the case settled efficiently and favorably). Apart from the above-rated adjectives, I'd like to add that he is conscientious. Thus, it is my pleasure to recommend him to others.

I got a DUI and, like most people, I was scared and didn't know what to do. That all changed after meeting Vicki Jensen. She handled my case with detail and professionalism. She guided me every step of the way and got me a great deal. She even found the most affordable options for insurance, classes, and provided step by step instructions for getting my license back. 1000% recommended! Vicki is who you want on your team.

I was being investigated for a crime, detectives came to my job. I had never been so terrified in my life. I literally was devastated, humiliated and beyond frightened. Everything felt surreal, I did a quick google search and came across the Law Offices of Tim Pori. Gave them a call and hopped in my car, I initially wanted to speak with Tim, however he was not in. My Mother and I say down with John, and through uncontrollable tears I told him everything. He made me feel so comfortable and he is the most understanding, nonjudgmental person. His approach is straightforward, yet very kind and warm. We decided to hire him, he worked out a payment plan with us ( thank God ). I just knew I was going to go Jail/Prison and my life was going to be ruined. I was wrong, so wrong. I was never even arrested, John was able to convince the detective to not file charges. I could not believe it, I will forever be indebted to him. I don't know how or what he did but it was short of a miracle. I would recommend him to anybody. Thank you John!

My experience in leaving a high conflict marriage (with a litigation attorney) has been nothing but frightening. Feeling confused, dismissed, deflated and defeated by a marriage I had put so much of my efforts and energy into left me lost and lacking any belief things could improve. Meeting Greg Silva was intimidating as I had lost faith and trust in attorneys after contacting many throughout the Bay Area - all dollar driven (watch out for those ads). Learning my rights which is never clear in our present society and putting faith into a stranger was my biggest growth and lesson thus far. David Falik is someone who can hold this with care, class and grace. The cost is high, however, their level of expertise and the safety I felt in my experience thus far has been priceless. I’m slowly getting my life back. Mr. Falik (and Silva & Associates) are ready to fight for your rights and if not well-verse in an area, they continue education to prepare. Mr. Falik has phenomenal listening skills and shocking expertise in handling high conflict personality types to an unbelievable degree. Mr Falik also is able to keep a wonderful sense of humor about unexpected obstacles, which has been imperative for me. Mr. Falik and his team are truly a light in such a dark place. He can put your words into an eloquent beautifully written respectable request (particularly when we cannot). In this industry, where a massive hurdle is finding ethical, cost conscientious and grounded attorneys, they are the firm fighting the “good fight”.

What a Litigation Lawyer Can Do for You

A litigation lawyer specializes in representing individuals, businesses, or organizations involved in legal disputes. Whether you're the one filing a lawsuit or you're being sued, a litigation attorney will advocate on your behalf throughout the entire legal process. Their goal is to resolve disputes, either through negotiation, settlement, or trial. Litigation lawyers can help with a wide range of disputes, including contract disagreements, real estate issues, employment disputes, personal injury claims, and more.

Litigation lawyers provide strategic legal advice and manage all aspects of your case, from filing motions to representing you in court, ensuring that your rights are protected and that you have the best chance of achieving a favorable outcome.

When Should I Hire a Litigation Lawyer?

You should consider hiring a litigation lawyer if you're involved in a legal dispute that you cannot resolve on your own. Common situations include:

  • Breach of contract disputes: If a party to a contract fails to fulfill their obligations, a litigation lawyer can help you seek damages or enforce the agreement.
  • Business disputes: Litigation lawyers can represent you in cases of partnership disagreements, intellectual property disputes, or business fraud.
  • Employment disputes: If you're facing issues like wrongful termination, workplace discrimination, or wage disputes, a litigation lawyer can help resolve these matters through negotiation or court action.
  • Personal injury claims: If you've been injured due to someone else's negligence and are seeking compensation, a litigation attorney can help you pursue your case.
  • Real estate or property disputes: When there are conflicts over property ownership, boundary issues, or lease agreements, a litigation lawyer can assist in resolving the dispute.

Hiring a lawyer early in the process is beneficial, especially if a lawsuit seems imminent or you have already been served with legal documents.

What Does a Litigation Lawyer Do?

A litigation lawyer handles all aspects of your case, from the initial investigation to the trial and even the appeals process, if necessary. Their role includes:

  • Case assessment and investigation: Analyzing the facts of your case and advising whether it’s worth pursuing or defending.
  • Pleadings and motions: Drafting and filing documents to initiate or respond to a lawsuit, including complaints, motions to dismiss, and answers.
  • Discovery: Gathering evidence, including depositions, interrogatories, and document requests, to build your case.
  • Negotiations and settlement discussions: Attempting to resolve disputes through mediation, arbitration, or settlement talks before going to trial.
  • Trial representation: Presenting your case in court, examining witnesses, introducing evidence, and making legal arguments before a judge or jury.
  • Appeals: If necessary, filing appeals to challenge or defend the outcome of the trial.

Litigation lawyers are also skilled negotiators and often work to resolve disputes outside of court to save time, money, and stress for their clients.

How Are Litigation Lawyers Paid?

Litigation lawyers typically use a variety of fee structures depending on the type of case, the complexity of the legal matter, and the financial circumstances of the client. Common payment arrangements include:

  • Hourly rates: Many litigation attorneys charge by the hour, with rates varying based on experience and geographic location.
  • Flat fees: For specific, predictable legal tasks (such as filing a motion), lawyers may offer a flat fee.
  • Contingency fees: In personal injury or other cases where you seek damages, a lawyer may work on a contingency basis, taking a percentage of the settlement or award if you win.
  • Retainer: Some clients pay a retainer fee upfront to secure ongoing legal services. The lawyer then bills against this retainer as work is done.

The exact structure should be discussed in the initial consultation to ensure you understand how and when you'll be charged.

How Much Does a Litigation Lawyer Cost?

The cost of a litigation lawyer varies significantly depending on the nature of the dispute and the lawyer’s experience. Factors affecting the cost include:

  • The complexity of the case: More complex litigation involving extensive discovery, expert witnesses, or multi-party suits typically costs more.
  • Time spent: Litigation cases can be time-consuming, especially if they go to trial. The longer the case, the higher the legal fees.
  • Type of fee arrangement: Hourly rates can range from $200 to over $1,000 per hour, depending on the lawyer’s reputation and location. Contingency fees generally range from 25% to 40% of the settlement or award.
  • Stage of litigation: Cases that settle early in the process are often less expensive than those that proceed to trial or appeal.

It’s crucial to ask about cost estimates during your initial consultation to avoid surprises.

Top Questions to Ask a Litigation Lawyer

Before hiring a litigation lawyer, it's essential to ask key questions to ensure you're choosing the right representation:

  1. What is your experience with cases like mine?
Ensure that the lawyer has experience handling your specific type of dispute, whether it's a contract issue, personal injury, or business matter.
  2. What are the potential outcomes of my case?
Ask for an honest assessment of your case's strengths, weaknesses, and the likelihood of success.
  3. What is your fee structure?
Clarify how you'll be charged, whether by the hour, a flat fee, or on a contingency basis.
  4. How long do you expect my case to take?
While it's hard to predict, an experienced lawyer can give you a rough estimate based on similar cases.
  5. How often do you settle cases versus going to trial?
Some lawyers are more inclined to settle, while others may be more experienced in the courtroom. It’s important to understand their strategy.
  6. What is your approach to resolving disputes?
Some lawyers prefer aggressive litigation, while others focus on settlement or mediation. Choose one whose approach aligns with your goals.

How to Check the Credibility of a Litigation Lawyer

To verify a litigation lawyer’s credibility, consider the following steps:

  • Check bar association records: Ensure the lawyer is in good standing with the state bar and has no history of disciplinary actions.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Online reviews can provide insight into the lawyer’s professionalism and track record.
  • Look for litigation experience: Review the lawyer’s website or professional profile to ensure they have handled cases like yours and have a record of success.
  • Request references: Ask the lawyer to provide references from past clients who can speak to their effectiveness and approach.
  • Research their trial experience: If your case is likely to go to trial, ensure the lawyer has a history of courtroom success.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make your first consultation with a litigation lawyer productive, you should prepare the following:

  • A clear outline of the dispute: Provide a timeline and key details about the legal issue you're facing.
  • Any relevant documents: Bring contracts, emails, letters, or any other documentation that pertains to the case.
  • A list of key players: Provide the names of individuals or companies involved in the dispute.
  • Questions about fees and the litigation process: Make sure you understand how the lawyer plans to approach your case and how you will be charged.
  • Your goals and expectations: Be clear about what outcome you're hoping for, whether it's a settlement, compensation, or another resolution.

By coming prepared, you can ensure that your initial meeting with the lawyer is both efficient and insightful, giving you a better sense of how to proceed with your case.
