We had just moved into our house and found that the basement leaked and filled up with lots of water. Previous owners claimed it had been disclosed. This case took over a year and went to court. Johanna won the case for us. the whole process was a little stressful and Johanna made us feel as comfortable as could be expected throughout the process.

Dan was recommended to me by several bankers I do business with. I have hired numerous real estate attorneys prior to Dan and hands down Dan is the best. I feel Dan gives the best advice to the client based on the facts and is not trying to please the client but looking out for their best interest. His billing practices are fair unlike previous attorneys I have hired who charged me 5 grand for a one page letter. I'm looking forward to a continued partnership with Dan on my legal matters.

I’ve had the distinct pleasure of engaging with Alex, an exceptional business attorney who provided much more than legal advice - he offered peace of mind in a complex business landscape. Alex didn't just "do their job." Instead, he took the time to dive deeply into my unique situation, and patiently guided me through every aspect of my business formation, each legal consideration, and potential financial impact. He translated the labyrinth of legal and financial jargon into clear, understandable language, enabling me to make informed decisions with confidence. What impressed me most was Alex’s candor. He astutely pointed out situations where it would be more cost-effective for other services to handle certain matters rather than employing his services. This level of honesty and integrity spoke volumes about their character and commitment to their clients. Alex demonstrated what I’d call a profound understanding of the risks involved in formation, while mitigating member angst with clear background on his experience in pertinent subject matter. Even more remarkable was the level of commitment Alex showed when our consultation ran over time. He generously spent an additional 30 minutes answering my questions and ensuring I was fully aware of all considerations - he didn’t charge a dime and provided a solid overview of his cost structures to avoid any misalignment. As someone with a fairly difficult personality and standards some might consider unreasonably high, I can attest that Alex not only met, but exceeded them in every aspect. His competency, patience, dedication, and “to the point” nature was a testament to his professionalism and passion for their work. The home run? Trust. Myself and my partners expect privacy with Trust as a core component of our lives and our business. Alex was attentive in providing details in information processing. He displayed integrity, empathy, reliability, and full accountability . I wholeheartedly recommend Alex to anyone seeking a business attorney who truly goes above and beyond for their clients. I'm profoundly grateful for the superb service and personal attention that I received and look forward to working with Alex in the future.

He is honest and straight to the point and delivers exactly what he tells you he will do. He has yet to let me down and extremely professional and will get the job done immediately and it will be final, no time wasted and legal matters in the past.

My wife and I are lucky to have found Amy Higgins to represent us in a civil case against a former landlord. She doesn't normally represent tenants, but she did a smashing job with our case. Even though we were the ones originally being sued and our opponents tried their best to take unfair advantage of us, Ms. Higgins was able to turn the tables on them and achieve a very nice outcome for us. She is an extremely sharp person, always knows her research, and always comes prepared to give a sparklingly argument. It is impressive to watch! Her expertise is worth at least twice what she charges in fees. Ms. Higgins' professional conduct is impeccable. She sets the bar for admirable ethical standards. Working with her was a pleasure and I could not be more grateful for the outcome. In fact, the only thing I regret is that we did not retain her sooner!

When I first met with Ms. Rose, she made me feel comfortable. I was so nervous about filing, but she has made my life much easier! She’s extremely responsive; if I send her an email, I’d say 99.9% of the time I’d here from her the same day, even on weekends and holidays. She isn’t the warm, fuzzy type, I don’t think, but I have always felt that she genuinely cares about me and my situation.

I've had experiences with a few attorneys through both business and personal dealings over the last 15+ years. Many lawyers were pretty good on the "front end" with communication, timely responses, and keeping me informed. I would rate Brian towards the top of the scale on his "front end" performance. But, there comes a time where lawyers must prove their true value to a client and that happens in the courtroom. Brian definitely exceeded my expectations and outperformed every attorney I've ever hired to represent me or my family. He was thorough, worked the other parties involved in the case to perfection, worked the other attorneys in the case exactly like we had hoped, and ultimately achieved a positive result in the matter. If you're considering hiring an attorney for a business, divorce, or criminal matter, don't hesitate to choose Brian to represent you. He is now the only attorney I'll consider using when I need representation!

To get divorced from a woman who is the poster child for Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD), I had to go through four attorneys, each of which were scarcely prepared for the incredibly hard task of dealing with BPD and overall insanity from the other side, even though I warned them going in. Having to change attorneys because they don't have the will to fight is wildly expensive, and eats months and years of your precious time. If you have a divorce or family law issue, especially if it's high conflict, and/or your ex has BPD, you absolutely need to have someone working for you that not only understands how to handle it, but will treat the other side with a no-nonsense, zero-tolerance approach. Chris is simply the best attorney I've ever had to deal with the craziness and instability of my ex and her attorney, that always enables her on every issue. I hired Chris to help me free my 14 year-old daughter from her mother. Chris took my case and ran with it. She filed documents, stayed on top of every issue, and provided lightning fast return calls and emails. The level of service she provided caused me to ask her if I was her only client, that's the way it felt from the moment I brought her onboard. If you've ever retained an attorney for any matter, you know that returning calls, and being proactive are the two biggest complaints people have with their attorneys. Again, I had to enlist four attorneys to go up against my crazy ex, and only the last one got me the coveted divorce, but he was a spent, shell of a man at the end. I cannot say enough about the quality of service, and her dogged determination to see my case through. If you're wondering, yes, we were successful in getting my daughter freed, and she will be living with me in a few weeks. I sincerely wish I had Chris from the very start. I could have saved tens of thousands of dollars, and not lost all that sleep. She did such a great job for me and my daughter, and there's no way I could be happier. Hire her, and you'll see what I mean.

I have worked with Rob for over 20 years on a wide variety of transactions and would highly recommend him for your real estate law needs. As the VP of Development for a national restaurant chain, i worked directly with Rob on land acquisition deals, leases, sale leasebacks, financing deals, and even the purchase and sale of entire companies. Rob has the personal expertise to handle all of that, and the resources to bring in other experts as the situation merits. Rob has always been responsive, hands on, and focused on timely closing of our deals. He was as helpful to us when we were a small franchise as he was when we grew to a $150 million plus company. To his great credit, I do not recall a time in the span of around 50 transactions, with every variety of difficult personality involved, where I did not feel that Rob was an asset in moving the deal towards completion. Whatever your Commercial Real Estate law needs, I am sure Rob could be an asset to you as well.

What a Litigation Lawyer Can Do for You

A litigation lawyer specializes in representing individuals, businesses, or organizations involved in legal disputes. Whether you're the one filing a lawsuit or you're being sued, a litigation attorney will advocate on your behalf throughout the entire legal process. Their goal is to resolve disputes, either through negotiation, settlement, or trial. Litigation lawyers can help with a wide range of disputes, including contract disagreements, real estate issues, employment disputes, personal injury claims, and more.

Litigation lawyers provide strategic legal advice and manage all aspects of your case, from filing motions to representing you in court, ensuring that your rights are protected and that you have the best chance of achieving a favorable outcome.

When Should I Hire a Litigation Lawyer?

You should consider hiring a litigation lawyer if you're involved in a legal dispute that you cannot resolve on your own. Common situations include:

  • Breach of contract disputes: If a party to a contract fails to fulfill their obligations, a litigation lawyer can help you seek damages or enforce the agreement.
  • Business disputes: Litigation lawyers can represent you in cases of partnership disagreements, intellectual property disputes, or business fraud.
  • Employment disputes: If you're facing issues like wrongful termination, workplace discrimination, or wage disputes, a litigation lawyer can help resolve these matters through negotiation or court action.
  • Personal injury claims: If you've been injured due to someone else's negligence and are seeking compensation, a litigation attorney can help you pursue your case.
  • Real estate or property disputes: When there are conflicts over property ownership, boundary issues, or lease agreements, a litigation lawyer can assist in resolving the dispute.

Hiring a lawyer early in the process is beneficial, especially if a lawsuit seems imminent or you have already been served with legal documents.

What Does a Litigation Lawyer Do?

A litigation lawyer handles all aspects of your case, from the initial investigation to the trial and even the appeals process, if necessary. Their role includes:

  • Case assessment and investigation: Analyzing the facts of your case and advising whether it’s worth pursuing or defending.
  • Pleadings and motions: Drafting and filing documents to initiate or respond to a lawsuit, including complaints, motions to dismiss, and answers.
  • Discovery: Gathering evidence, including depositions, interrogatories, and document requests, to build your case.
  • Negotiations and settlement discussions: Attempting to resolve disputes through mediation, arbitration, or settlement talks before going to trial.
  • Trial representation: Presenting your case in court, examining witnesses, introducing evidence, and making legal arguments before a judge or jury.
  • Appeals: If necessary, filing appeals to challenge or defend the outcome of the trial.

Litigation lawyers are also skilled negotiators and often work to resolve disputes outside of court to save time, money, and stress for their clients.

How Are Litigation Lawyers Paid?

Litigation lawyers typically use a variety of fee structures depending on the type of case, the complexity of the legal matter, and the financial circumstances of the client. Common payment arrangements include:

  • Hourly rates: Many litigation attorneys charge by the hour, with rates varying based on experience and geographic location.
  • Flat fees: For specific, predictable legal tasks (such as filing a motion), lawyers may offer a flat fee.
  • Contingency fees: In personal injury or other cases where you seek damages, a lawyer may work on a contingency basis, taking a percentage of the settlement or award if you win.
  • Retainer: Some clients pay a retainer fee upfront to secure ongoing legal services. The lawyer then bills against this retainer as work is done.

The exact structure should be discussed in the initial consultation to ensure you understand how and when you'll be charged.

How Much Does a Litigation Lawyer Cost?

The cost of a litigation lawyer varies significantly depending on the nature of the dispute and the lawyer’s experience. Factors affecting the cost include:

  • The complexity of the case: More complex litigation involving extensive discovery, expert witnesses, or multi-party suits typically costs more.
  • Time spent: Litigation cases can be time-consuming, especially if they go to trial. The longer the case, the higher the legal fees.
  • Type of fee arrangement: Hourly rates can range from $200 to over $1,000 per hour, depending on the lawyer’s reputation and location. Contingency fees generally range from 25% to 40% of the settlement or award.
  • Stage of litigation: Cases that settle early in the process are often less expensive than those that proceed to trial or appeal.

It’s crucial to ask about cost estimates during your initial consultation to avoid surprises.

Top Questions to Ask a Litigation Lawyer

Before hiring a litigation lawyer, it's essential to ask key questions to ensure you're choosing the right representation:

  1. What is your experience with cases like mine?
Ensure that the lawyer has experience handling your specific type of dispute, whether it's a contract issue, personal injury, or business matter.
  2. What are the potential outcomes of my case?
Ask for an honest assessment of your case's strengths, weaknesses, and the likelihood of success.
  3. What is your fee structure?
Clarify how you'll be charged, whether by the hour, a flat fee, or on a contingency basis.
  4. How long do you expect my case to take?
While it's hard to predict, an experienced lawyer can give you a rough estimate based on similar cases.
  5. How often do you settle cases versus going to trial?
Some lawyers are more inclined to settle, while others may be more experienced in the courtroom. It’s important to understand their strategy.
  6. What is your approach to resolving disputes?
Some lawyers prefer aggressive litigation, while others focus on settlement or mediation. Choose one whose approach aligns with your goals.

How to Check the Credibility of a Litigation Lawyer

To verify a litigation lawyer’s credibility, consider the following steps:

  • Check bar association records: Ensure the lawyer is in good standing with the state bar and has no history of disciplinary actions.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Online reviews can provide insight into the lawyer’s professionalism and track record.
  • Look for litigation experience: Review the lawyer’s website or professional profile to ensure they have handled cases like yours and have a record of success.
  • Request references: Ask the lawyer to provide references from past clients who can speak to their effectiveness and approach.
  • Research their trial experience: If your case is likely to go to trial, ensure the lawyer has a history of courtroom success.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make your first consultation with a litigation lawyer productive, you should prepare the following:

  • A clear outline of the dispute: Provide a timeline and key details about the legal issue you're facing.
  • Any relevant documents: Bring contracts, emails, letters, or any other documentation that pertains to the case.
  • A list of key players: Provide the names of individuals or companies involved in the dispute.
  • Questions about fees and the litigation process: Make sure you understand how the lawyer plans to approach your case and how you will be charged.
  • Your goals and expectations: Be clear about what outcome you're hoping for, whether it's a settlement, compensation, or another resolution.

By coming prepared, you can ensure that your initial meeting with the lawyer is both efficient and insightful, giving you a better sense of how to proceed with your case.
