Dan is an amazing attorney! He provided representation for me and I felt comfortable from the moment he answered the phone. During the uncertain times of covid 19 Dan provided counsel via Zoom, which was easy, quick, and efficient. I’ll be sure to call Dan McGrory for any of my future legal matters!

I hired Mr. McGrory for a bankruptcy case. I cannot say enough about his professionalism, knowledge, reassurance, and kindness through the entire process. He guided me through the case at each and every turn. Mr. McGrory kept me updated on my case every step of the way. He made a very life-changing process easier and manageable. Hands down the best attorney I consulted with during my selection process of bankruptcy attorneys. His office staff is equally helpful. I would definitely recommend him and will use him again in the future.

Dan McGrory drew up the wills for me and my late life partner. When my partner passed away, he handled the estate settlement in a fair, equitable way with my partner’s children and me. Dan has also counseled me in other legal matters and I have complete trust in his professional competence. I would not hesitate to recommend Dan to anyone who needs a reputable attorney.

I do not wish to go into the particulars of my case, but I do wish to say that Brad was terrific. I was impressed with not only his knowledge, but also with his timeliness. Having dealt with attorneys before and often, I know that they don't always meet deadlines. Brad did. I could not have been more pleased.

Brad was recommended to me through RocketLawyer. I had just formed an LLC and needed some help transferring assets over to the LLC. Brad was able to do this quickly and within my budget constraints. I'd be happy to work with him again.

Brad was very flexible with meeting dates/times and modes of communication which was a big plus for me since I work full-time. Brad listened to my questions, clearly explained his services (what he does and does not do), and provided summaries after our conversations. I also appreciated that he did not overwhelm me with legal jargon. This made my whole process and interaction with him a positive experience. I look forward to working more with Brad! Thanks!!

A mutual friend introduced me to Ed Robson. After an hour in his office explaining the problem, he was willing to take the case. He took an extremely difficult legal matter with juxtaposed sides and responded professionally and courteously. At times, I felt that this case would not be able to be settled outside of court. Ed’s recommendation and determination in settling this case proved to be best. The case was able to be settled out of court, saving years of legal fees and court costs. During the entire process, he was open and available for questions, discussions, and planning the path-forward. He clearly explained the situations and the “legalese” to the layman. Ed truly understands the issues at hand and the potential outcomes. He is able to clearly decipher what is best for the client; not what is best for him.

Recently used New Hope Divorce Mediation, in particular Mindey Elgart, to handle my no contest divorce. It was a very pleasant process, given the situation, and went smoothly from the beginning to the end. After the initial meeting where we discussed all the details, we met one more time to finalize the settlement agreement. After that there was a 90 day waiting period. During all that time, Mindey and her office was very diligent at sending us all the paperwork and explaining everything step by step, when and how to properly sign and mail all the documents to the court. After the 90 day waiting period, it just took another 2 months to receive the divorce decree from the judge. I would highly recommend Mindey and New Hope Divorce Mediation to others to handle their divorce case.

Mr. Prior got me through some of my darkest days. He helped me navigate an intimidating landscape with which I was unfamiliar and frightened. I learned a lot from working with him. I always knew I had his full attention – he never once “took another call” or text or did anything that didn’t have to do with my case when I was with him. The entire firm was like that and everyone was helpful, responsive and kind through my entire ordeal. Mr. Prior is a fierce adversary and I was always glad he was on MY side. I have the greatest respect for Mr. Prior and his firm and highly recommend them.

I have talked to many lawyers the highest fee they wanted was $6K, nut this attorney wanted $10K. I also had a hard time talking to the lawyer that contacted me through his office S. Ott was his name. He couldn't follow timelines. Not sure who is at fault there. I know I can be emotional and this is a very raw issue for me because I cannot honor my in laws final wishes. All I asked was they take the case on a contingency basis not a pro bono and them and all their wealth still couldn't find it in their hearts and minds to help a 92 year old marine veteran that recently lost his wife of 72 years. It isn't that I don't have a good case, it is that they didn't have the confidence in themselves to gain positive results. Some people live by their wallets, some by their hearts. You choose which this one did.

Called him as the sole surviving relative to someone who passed away and he handeled her Will. I had questions about the Will that she left behind. Simply do to the fact that the unconfirmed executor who just happened to have the Will refuses let anyone see it and has disapeared. There are no assets, just had questions to see what she wanted for a service since the this person who claims to be the Executor is not reachable after the initial contact. He told me that I needed to Contact the courts to get it released publicly. He refused to say anymore than that or even confirm what my mother requested for a service. I went to ask him to consult on a legal matter regarding her care on her care, he shut me down before I could even get the question out. He said he would refuse to represent me, And I asked if he had recommendations for attornies on this seperate matter. He said to contact my local bar association. He said that he would not recommend anyone to me before I could even get out what it was for. When it comes to someone you represent for their last Will and there's issue with verification on the type of service, not even an asset question, you should at least be able to provide that information. Regardless if it is enforcible or not, the service is coming out of someone else's pocket. If you have taken the time to document what a person wanted. You should be able to at least provide someone information to be able to lay that person to rest in a respectful manner that they requested. It was also the tone and hostility in his voice and demeanor that made his rudeness even more disrespectful.

Hired this attorney back in 2013. Promised a win but he lost a strong case. Did not submit important attorney emails into evidence-exhibits. Told me he would get it from witness testimony instead. It didn't work. Cuts corners and it made for sloppy work.

What a Litigation Lawyer Can Do for You

A litigation lawyer specializes in representing individuals, businesses, or organizations involved in legal disputes. Whether you're the one filing a lawsuit or you're being sued, a litigation attorney will advocate on your behalf throughout the entire legal process. Their goal is to resolve disputes, either through negotiation, settlement, or trial. Litigation lawyers can help with a wide range of disputes, including contract disagreements, real estate issues, employment disputes, personal injury claims, and more.

Litigation lawyers provide strategic legal advice and manage all aspects of your case, from filing motions to representing you in court, ensuring that your rights are protected and that you have the best chance of achieving a favorable outcome.

When Should I Hire a Litigation Lawyer?

You should consider hiring a litigation lawyer if you're involved in a legal dispute that you cannot resolve on your own. Common situations include:

  • Breach of contract disputes: If a party to a contract fails to fulfill their obligations, a litigation lawyer can help you seek damages or enforce the agreement.
  • Business disputes: Litigation lawyers can represent you in cases of partnership disagreements, intellectual property disputes, or business fraud.
  • Employment disputes: If you're facing issues like wrongful termination, workplace discrimination, or wage disputes, a litigation lawyer can help resolve these matters through negotiation or court action.
  • Personal injury claims: If you've been injured due to someone else's negligence and are seeking compensation, a litigation attorney can help you pursue your case.
  • Real estate or property disputes: When there are conflicts over property ownership, boundary issues, or lease agreements, a litigation lawyer can assist in resolving the dispute.

Hiring a lawyer early in the process is beneficial, especially if a lawsuit seems imminent or you have already been served with legal documents.

What Does a Litigation Lawyer Do?

A litigation lawyer handles all aspects of your case, from the initial investigation to the trial and even the appeals process, if necessary. Their role includes:

  • Case assessment and investigation: Analyzing the facts of your case and advising whether it’s worth pursuing or defending.
  • Pleadings and motions: Drafting and filing documents to initiate or respond to a lawsuit, including complaints, motions to dismiss, and answers.
  • Discovery: Gathering evidence, including depositions, interrogatories, and document requests, to build your case.
  • Negotiations and settlement discussions: Attempting to resolve disputes through mediation, arbitration, or settlement talks before going to trial.
  • Trial representation: Presenting your case in court, examining witnesses, introducing evidence, and making legal arguments before a judge or jury.
  • Appeals: If necessary, filing appeals to challenge or defend the outcome of the trial.

Litigation lawyers are also skilled negotiators and often work to resolve disputes outside of court to save time, money, and stress for their clients.

How Are Litigation Lawyers Paid?

Litigation lawyers typically use a variety of fee structures depending on the type of case, the complexity of the legal matter, and the financial circumstances of the client. Common payment arrangements include:

  • Hourly rates: Many litigation attorneys charge by the hour, with rates varying based on experience and geographic location.
  • Flat fees: For specific, predictable legal tasks (such as filing a motion), lawyers may offer a flat fee.
  • Contingency fees: In personal injury or other cases where you seek damages, a lawyer may work on a contingency basis, taking a percentage of the settlement or award if you win.
  • Retainer: Some clients pay a retainer fee upfront to secure ongoing legal services. The lawyer then bills against this retainer as work is done.

The exact structure should be discussed in the initial consultation to ensure you understand how and when you'll be charged.

How Much Does a Litigation Lawyer Cost?

The cost of a litigation lawyer varies significantly depending on the nature of the dispute and the lawyer’s experience. Factors affecting the cost include:

  • The complexity of the case: More complex litigation involving extensive discovery, expert witnesses, or multi-party suits typically costs more.
  • Time spent: Litigation cases can be time-consuming, especially if they go to trial. The longer the case, the higher the legal fees.
  • Type of fee arrangement: Hourly rates can range from $200 to over $1,000 per hour, depending on the lawyer’s reputation and location. Contingency fees generally range from 25% to 40% of the settlement or award.
  • Stage of litigation: Cases that settle early in the process are often less expensive than those that proceed to trial or appeal.

It’s crucial to ask about cost estimates during your initial consultation to avoid surprises.

Top Questions to Ask a Litigation Lawyer

Before hiring a litigation lawyer, it's essential to ask key questions to ensure you're choosing the right representation:

  1. What is your experience with cases like mine?
Ensure that the lawyer has experience handling your specific type of dispute, whether it's a contract issue, personal injury, or business matter.
  2. What are the potential outcomes of my case?
Ask for an honest assessment of your case's strengths, weaknesses, and the likelihood of success.
  3. What is your fee structure?
Clarify how you'll be charged, whether by the hour, a flat fee, or on a contingency basis.
  4. How long do you expect my case to take?
While it's hard to predict, an experienced lawyer can give you a rough estimate based on similar cases.
  5. How often do you settle cases versus going to trial?
Some lawyers are more inclined to settle, while others may be more experienced in the courtroom. It’s important to understand their strategy.
  6. What is your approach to resolving disputes?
Some lawyers prefer aggressive litigation, while others focus on settlement or mediation. Choose one whose approach aligns with your goals.

How to Check the Credibility of a Litigation Lawyer

To verify a litigation lawyer’s credibility, consider the following steps:

  • Check bar association records: Ensure the lawyer is in good standing with the state bar and has no history of disciplinary actions.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Online reviews can provide insight into the lawyer’s professionalism and track record.
  • Look for litigation experience: Review the lawyer’s website or professional profile to ensure they have handled cases like yours and have a record of success.
  • Request references: Ask the lawyer to provide references from past clients who can speak to their effectiveness and approach.
  • Research their trial experience: If your case is likely to go to trial, ensure the lawyer has a history of courtroom success.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make your first consultation with a litigation lawyer productive, you should prepare the following:

  • A clear outline of the dispute: Provide a timeline and key details about the legal issue you're facing.
  • Any relevant documents: Bring contracts, emails, letters, or any other documentation that pertains to the case.
  • A list of key players: Provide the names of individuals or companies involved in the dispute.
  • Questions about fees and the litigation process: Make sure you understand how the lawyer plans to approach your case and how you will be charged.
  • Your goals and expectations: Be clear about what outcome you're hoping for, whether it's a settlement, compensation, or another resolution.

By coming prepared, you can ensure that your initial meeting with the lawyer is both efficient and insightful, giving you a better sense of how to proceed with your case.
