I found their number on google with it stating free consultation. I called spoke with Trevor Clark. Saying exactly what I called for which was general information. He automatically proceeded to ask for my email to set up a consultation. When I received the email it was a whole intake form and stated to call back to set up the consultation after filling the form out. I called back. Trevor asked was 3 p.m. fine I said yes. A little before 3 he called me asking for my email again because it wasn’t on the intake form. After giving the email I was told he would then give me a call back for the consultation exactly at 3. Even though it was 5 minutes til I said ok. He called at 3 and said it would be a $500 retainer fee. I asked why wasn’t that mentioned to me when I first called and was told because the attorney just looked at the intake form. I’m still confused and ask that’s for general information? I was told yes. So it was a waste of time. It’s giving they really don’t know the information but want to get all the intake forms they can.

As a military member, I used this firm in the past and decided to use them again. Unfortunately, my experience this time was unsatisfactory and was severely overcharged for a small amount of work. The firm charged me over $7000 and I never even stepped foot in a courtroom. I had to hire another attorney because of their lack of attention to detail and poor communication. Not to mention their high rates with no outcome. I would highly suggest utilizing another company and I’m not sure how this firm is still operating.

I hired attorney Corletra Mance on February 1 2019 as my attorney . She is Very unprofessional she doesn’t deserve a 1 star rating. I am disabled and hired her to help me get split custody and to save my son’s life. She stated 1,500 dollars retainer fee that she allowed me to break down to three payments. I started first payment on February 1 2019 and finished payment plan on April 5 2019. I filed the petition on my own also she didn’t show up to court didn’t send someone else from her firm I had to speak for myself. Since I felt like she wasn’t doing anything to help me so I fired her and now she stated that I still owe her $1,500 dollars for the retainer fee. Thank God I kept copies of my receipts. I wouldn’t recommend her at all to anyone!

He may be a good lawyer, but he is not a good landlord. He will not fix anything in his properties, he puts the responsibility on the tenants. My floor is falling through to the basement and he wants me to fix it and be reimbursed. If I could afford to fix the foundation of the home, it wouldn't be one I rent. This isn't fair.

A couple of years ago, he represented me in court very professionally , kept me informed since the first day of how the case was going and what i need to do... Actually, he picked me up (ride me from home) to the court and back, He has been always the most HUMBLE person i have ever talk to, despite of what he does, what he has, and specially who he is: A great human being, (maybe that is why when he shows up in court, in both opportunities, i saw the other lawyers leave their seat to greet him) , Resuming: if something happens again and i need a lawyer or legal counseling... No doubt, i will look for him again.

This lawyer failed to protect me from the hands of my abusive husband. She failed in many areas and didn’t protect me from getting wrongfully charged with assault when I was the one assaulted. I was then harassed by the man for the next year without much I could do about it because he claimed I broke an oop by letting his kids contact him. Worst lawyer ever for anyone in an abusive relationship. You won’t be protected, helped, or represented well at all. She simply doesn’t have the time or care to help you.

Ms. Coleman is smart and quick on her feet. She has lots of trial experience, and it shows. She listened to me when I was going through a hard time and she was appointed to me. She didn't have to work hard as hard for me as her other clients. She knew I couldn't pay and she didn't care. She still fought for me and was able to get me out of jail. Highly recommend.

This attorney seemed more focused on her upcoming election she was running for than to meet the needs of her client. She treated me like just another number and gave off a snooty vibe like she thought she was better than me. She did not accept my concerns as valid and dismissed my requests on how to represent my defense. I hope no one else who needs quality representation gets stuck with this attorney.

Hired to take on a franchisor, Roland came to depositions unprepared, caved in to adversary over and over again. Charged $270.00 an hour (trial attorney rate) yet we seldom saw the inside of a courtroom. I spent over 100K and 4 years and LOST on a case that was supposed to cost 40K and take 1 year. If Roland is your lawyer I feel sorry for you.

I would stay far, far away from this office. My wife and I retained Kline and had a horrendous experience. I would describe him as incompetent, uncommunicative, and dishonest. Without going into painstaking detail of all our grievances, I will say that it was next to impossible to receive any meaningful work or communication from Kline and the office. We actually missed a response deadline with the court in our case because of a supposed “lost email”. We initially paid a retainer to Kline and were told, in writing, that we would be notified when our retainer was exhausted so that we could discuss how to proceed. Instead, we suddenly received an invoice for thousands of dollars, informing us that our retainer had been used up for weeks. When I pointed out the clause in our agreement regarding our retainer, Kline abruptly responded that we should seek new counsel. I would strongly discourage anyone from retaining the services of this office

I hired Ms. O'Brien for a very simple task. It wound up involving only a few phone calls and emails to another attorney, probably totalling under 2 hours. I provided all the documentation to be conveyed to Hughes & Coleman, the plaintiff's lawyers. They had refused to answer calls from my business manager, likely because she wasn't a lawyer. Besides charging me 20 minutes to read or send each email, she added in $250 for an hour of "research." I know this is standard practice for the legal profession, but that doesn't make it right. When questioned, she claimed clients want their lawyers to be knowledgeable. Well, of course they do, but shouldn't that knowledge be acquired in school and through experience? It's not right to make the client pay for their OJT (On the Job Training). As a piano teacher, if I don't know something, I don't stop the lesson and go look it up while the child sits there. I'm expected to have the skills to perform my job. At the very least, she could have had her $90/hour paralegal do the research. I'm not happy with the $800 bill and won't use her again.

Ms. Cannon was professional and straightforward after I hired her to help handle my HOA dispute. However, later, she did not do what she said she would do under what was covered under my legal plan. Hired this lawyer on a recommendation, to review a commercial business contract. We had to close on the property within a set time. The seller was in Georgia, the property in Tennessee and the sale was to be governed under Georgia law. He stated he was not brushed up on Georgia law and without informing us, he spent 5 hours reviewing the law of that state (charging $200 an hour) and informing us that he was not licensed in the state of Georgia and told us not to sign. He would not promptly return phone calls or reply to e-mails. I can understand if he had told us to hire another attorney, but he seemed clueless. After returning $200 from the $2500 retainer, we were back to square one. We hired a more competent local lawyer, who completed the work for a quarter the price. I would never recommend this incompetent lawyer to anyone.

I had found Jonathan Wardle through an online search and spoke with his receptionist and then Jonathan about an urgent legal matter I needed help with. We came to the agreement that I would pay them to write a letter on my behalf about the issue with some back and forth with the other party, and if we couldnt come to an agreement with them he would take my case on contingency at 25-30%. He blew off writing my letter to the other party for two weeks until I had to remind him that I paid him to do a service. Once he finally wrote the letter, he told he my case wasnt worth his time, and that if I wanted to pursue the matter further, I would need to pay him up front to represent me in court, which completely goes against what was said me about taking the case on contingency if the letter didnt work. I asked for a refund for what I paid him, and he refused and told me not to contact him anymore. Do not do business with him.

What a Litigation Lawyer Can Do for You

A litigation lawyer specializes in representing individuals, businesses, or organizations involved in legal disputes. Whether you're the one filing a lawsuit or you're being sued, a litigation attorney will advocate on your behalf throughout the entire legal process. Their goal is to resolve disputes, either through negotiation, settlement, or trial. Litigation lawyers can help with a wide range of disputes, including contract disagreements, real estate issues, employment disputes, personal injury claims, and more.

Litigation lawyers provide strategic legal advice and manage all aspects of your case, from filing motions to representing you in court, ensuring that your rights are protected and that you have the best chance of achieving a favorable outcome.

When Should I Hire a Litigation Lawyer?

You should consider hiring a litigation lawyer if you're involved in a legal dispute that you cannot resolve on your own. Common situations include:

  • Breach of contract disputes: If a party to a contract fails to fulfill their obligations, a litigation lawyer can help you seek damages or enforce the agreement.
  • Business disputes: Litigation lawyers can represent you in cases of partnership disagreements, intellectual property disputes, or business fraud.
  • Employment disputes: If you're facing issues like wrongful termination, workplace discrimination, or wage disputes, a litigation lawyer can help resolve these matters through negotiation or court action.
  • Personal injury claims: If you've been injured due to someone else's negligence and are seeking compensation, a litigation attorney can help you pursue your case.
  • Real estate or property disputes: When there are conflicts over property ownership, boundary issues, or lease agreements, a litigation lawyer can assist in resolving the dispute.

Hiring a lawyer early in the process is beneficial, especially if a lawsuit seems imminent or you have already been served with legal documents.

What Does a Litigation Lawyer Do?

A litigation lawyer handles all aspects of your case, from the initial investigation to the trial and even the appeals process, if necessary. Their role includes:

  • Case assessment and investigation: Analyzing the facts of your case and advising whether it’s worth pursuing or defending.
  • Pleadings and motions: Drafting and filing documents to initiate or respond to a lawsuit, including complaints, motions to dismiss, and answers.
  • Discovery: Gathering evidence, including depositions, interrogatories, and document requests, to build your case.
  • Negotiations and settlement discussions: Attempting to resolve disputes through mediation, arbitration, or settlement talks before going to trial.
  • Trial representation: Presenting your case in court, examining witnesses, introducing evidence, and making legal arguments before a judge or jury.
  • Appeals: If necessary, filing appeals to challenge or defend the outcome of the trial.

Litigation lawyers are also skilled negotiators and often work to resolve disputes outside of court to save time, money, and stress for their clients.

How Are Litigation Lawyers Paid?

Litigation lawyers typically use a variety of fee structures depending on the type of case, the complexity of the legal matter, and the financial circumstances of the client. Common payment arrangements include:

  • Hourly rates: Many litigation attorneys charge by the hour, with rates varying based on experience and geographic location.
  • Flat fees: For specific, predictable legal tasks (such as filing a motion), lawyers may offer a flat fee.
  • Contingency fees: In personal injury or other cases where you seek damages, a lawyer may work on a contingency basis, taking a percentage of the settlement or award if you win.
  • Retainer: Some clients pay a retainer fee upfront to secure ongoing legal services. The lawyer then bills against this retainer as work is done.

The exact structure should be discussed in the initial consultation to ensure you understand how and when you'll be charged.

How Much Does a Litigation Lawyer Cost?

The cost of a litigation lawyer varies significantly depending on the nature of the dispute and the lawyer’s experience. Factors affecting the cost include:

  • The complexity of the case: More complex litigation involving extensive discovery, expert witnesses, or multi-party suits typically costs more.
  • Time spent: Litigation cases can be time-consuming, especially if they go to trial. The longer the case, the higher the legal fees.
  • Type of fee arrangement: Hourly rates can range from $200 to over $1,000 per hour, depending on the lawyer’s reputation and location. Contingency fees generally range from 25% to 40% of the settlement or award.
  • Stage of litigation: Cases that settle early in the process are often less expensive than those that proceed to trial or appeal.

It’s crucial to ask about cost estimates during your initial consultation to avoid surprises.

Top Questions to Ask a Litigation Lawyer

Before hiring a litigation lawyer, it's essential to ask key questions to ensure you're choosing the right representation:

  1. What is your experience with cases like mine?
Ensure that the lawyer has experience handling your specific type of dispute, whether it's a contract issue, personal injury, or business matter.
  2. What are the potential outcomes of my case?
Ask for an honest assessment of your case's strengths, weaknesses, and the likelihood of success.
  3. What is your fee structure?
Clarify how you'll be charged, whether by the hour, a flat fee, or on a contingency basis.
  4. How long do you expect my case to take?
While it's hard to predict, an experienced lawyer can give you a rough estimate based on similar cases.
  5. How often do you settle cases versus going to trial?
Some lawyers are more inclined to settle, while others may be more experienced in the courtroom. It’s important to understand their strategy.
  6. What is your approach to resolving disputes?
Some lawyers prefer aggressive litigation, while others focus on settlement or mediation. Choose one whose approach aligns with your goals.

How to Check the Credibility of a Litigation Lawyer

To verify a litigation lawyer’s credibility, consider the following steps:

  • Check bar association records: Ensure the lawyer is in good standing with the state bar and has no history of disciplinary actions.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Online reviews can provide insight into the lawyer’s professionalism and track record.
  • Look for litigation experience: Review the lawyer’s website or professional profile to ensure they have handled cases like yours and have a record of success.
  • Request references: Ask the lawyer to provide references from past clients who can speak to their effectiveness and approach.
  • Research their trial experience: If your case is likely to go to trial, ensure the lawyer has a history of courtroom success.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make your first consultation with a litigation lawyer productive, you should prepare the following:

  • A clear outline of the dispute: Provide a timeline and key details about the legal issue you're facing.
  • Any relevant documents: Bring contracts, emails, letters, or any other documentation that pertains to the case.
  • A list of key players: Provide the names of individuals or companies involved in the dispute.
  • Questions about fees and the litigation process: Make sure you understand how the lawyer plans to approach your case and how you will be charged.
  • Your goals and expectations: Be clear about what outcome you're hoping for, whether it's a settlement, compensation, or another resolution.

By coming prepared, you can ensure that your initial meeting with the lawyer is both efficient and insightful, giving you a better sense of how to proceed with your case.
