I have been a business owner in New Jersey for 18 years. I recently entered into contract negotiations with a facility that I have been working with for years. At the advice of my accountant I hired Mr. Saputelli, he came highly recommended by several of his other clients. I was thoroughly impressed with his negotiating skills & professionalism. He is a "Top Notch" negotiator and not only helped me get the best deal, my client was also satisfied.

Brian has assisted my company on various Reinsurance matters over a 7 year period. I've found him to be knowledgeable in insurance and reinsurance, and committed to obtaining the best outcome for his clients. He made it a point to keep the me involved throughout the proceedings, and would spend the necessary time to upload me on issues that I may not have had as fullest understanding of legally. Additionally, his team is of the same mindset, all are eager to assist when possible should Brian not be immediately available - good bench strength.

I got involved with the wrong crowd a few years back. I ended up in jail on multiple charges, my wife filed for divorce, etc. A friend recommended I see Mr. Priore. I am so glad I did. He listened, gave me straight advice and fought hard for me. I was able to put it all behind me with minimal issues. I am able to see my children regularly. I would recommend anyone with a criminal issue or a divorce too go see Mr. Priore and listen to what he tells you.

Lou Criscuolli is an intelligent, considerate gentleman of a lawyer, with strong professional ethics and solid, thorough understanding of his field, and an extremely capable, approachable staff. If you are lucky enough to select him as your lawyer, he will protect your concerns and interests as if you were his family, as he did for us. I do not have a single criticism of the service he provided and am truly grateful for his assistance in resolving a very complex, ugly legal situation that could have been absolutely horrific and very, very expensive. Lou is of the smartest people I have ever had a conversation with, he is upfront, direct and honest. He's an absolute gem and I feel very lucky to have found his firm.

I worked for a large retail company requiring a Land Use attorney on a regualr basis for full site plan approval and where necessary zoning variances I was the hiring authority in my position. I interviewed 4 attorneys. I picked Mr Tedesco based on my first impression of knowledge, sincerity, straight forwardness and personality. We worlked together on my Companys projects for about eight years until I retired. He continues to represent the Company when needed. I worked in different areas of Southern New Jersey. Mt Tedesco was one of my most successful and diligent Attorneys. Every individual case he represented was at his full attention. Communication was excellent. Access was prompt. Planning Board skills were Professional and executed with earnest. He was a keen planner and he assembled an outstanding teams with full teamwork. My most memorable event with Mr Tedesco was a denied Site Plan.for a critical Company project.. We filed an appeal all the way to the State Supreme Court. His true experience shined as The State Supreme Court overturned the Lower Courts and we won the case. This accomplishment was an example of his patience, planning, knowledge and application of the law and true devotion and dedication to his convictions. I would hire Mr Tedesco as a first choice Attorney in any manner that he would accept the case. I know I would get the best representation I could ever want. Bob Correale has helped my and my family against really bad characters. I hired a different attorney, the biggest mistake in my life. Bob, I call him that because now he is more a friend than a legal advisor, shows his clients exactly what is being communicated between parties. My last "attorney" charged me for email to our adversary, I had no clue what they agreed upon. Find another attorney that can be trusted with just that measure? That is just one example, He doesn't charge an arm and a leg. The fees are reasonable and justified. In my experience you can only do worse. Thank you Bob, btw, he won a case worth over 1 million dollars for me.

I am truly grateful for the exceptional support provided by Michael Zogby and his dedicated team at Barnes & Thornburg LLP, with special acknowledgment to Thomas Z. and Kaitlyn S. Their assistance was invaluable during a difficult time for my family, following the unexpected passing of my father. They navigated us through the complexities of his estate, including managing previously unknown debts and the disposition of his home. Michael and his team demonstrated not only professional expertise but also remarkable empathy and communication skills. They were patient in clarifying intricate legal matters in a way that we could easily understand. Being involved in this type of civil suit first time, the experience was a terrifying one for me personally and professionally. Mr. Cuddihy truly acted in my best interest, protected those interests and defended me with authentic concern and regard. Mr. Cuddihy kept me informed throughout all of the twists and turns of this journey in a calm and balanced perspective. He was extremely generous with his time in understanding the intricacies of my case and handled the vast majority of the communications with me personally. I never felt that I was simply another client of a large firm. I credit him with the successful closing of this case and cannot imagine having gone through this experience with any other attorney. I would strongly recommend Mr. Cuddihy.

Ms. Amy Carolla is an excellent Lawyer for Educational Special Needs. She is familiar with all of the South Jersey school districts and gives an accurate assessment from the beginning of how the process will go with your district. She is realistic about settling vs. going to court. Although she is expensive, she is also careful not to burn through your money unnecessarily, especially if you are careful not to require hand holding. If you are realistic in your expectations, she can be quite successful. We talked to another prominent attorney before choosing Ms. Carolla and we chose her because she was realistic, we wanted the services our child needed, not an aggressive effort to punish the other party. She followed that directive; overall we are very very pleased with Ms. Carolla's results.

Kenneth represented me in a very complicated trust/insurance lawsuit. During discovery, I was overwhelmed and very emotional, but Ken kept me focused and pushed me to find documents to support my position. Throughout the process, from discovery to arbitration to summary judgement, Ken was very proactive, and left no stone unturned. I was impressed by his strength, focus, and diligence during the depositions, which helped bring out even more facts and information. We ultimately won the case. People say no one really wins in litigation, because of the expense and emotional toll, but if you find yourself with no choice, you should hire Ken, because he will get the job done.

In March of this year (2014), we had a fire in our family apartment rental that consumed our personal possessions and caught us without having finalized our renter's insurance. Our landlord's insurance company as well as the insurance company that represented a business located on the floor beneath us, came after us like rabid dogs with lawyers, fire inspectors and electrical engineering inspectors. Although the official fire report indicated that the fire started from a faulty electrical connection inside the wall, without a lawyer or insurance, we had a target on our backs and within a few days after the fire it became apparent to us that they were coming after us and trying to pin the cause of the fire on us at seemingly any cost. Still in deep shock and panic, we got Michael's name from a family friend who is an attorney and who had worked closely with Michael before he set out with his own practice. After an initial phone discussion, I knew we had found our legal representation. I was proven right. It took little time for me to see what sets Michael apart from other lawyers I have dealt with in various capacities over the years: 1) Michael is direct, straight-forward, honest and trustworthy. 2) Michael accepted my suggestions on strategy, approach and tactics. This is a HUGE plus as far as I'm concerned. 3) Michael charged fairly. In no case was any charge or the time he recorded anything but fair, accurate and equitable. 4) Professionally, Michael was always on time and on point. He never slacked in any way whatsoever, was never late and indeed made us feel like we were his only client. 5) As an added bonus as far as I'm concerned is that Michael is a genuinely kind, considerate, sharp and has a wonderful sense of humor. Yes, we were pinching ourselves. Had we not had a lawyer of Michael's caliber, we would've been chewed up and spit out. No doubt about it. The amount of time and money expended by the opposing insurance companies trying to find any plausible way to make us personally liable for the damage caused by the fire was considerable and intense. Michael guided us against these formidable forces with panache, dignity and perseverance. It is, therefore, without hesitation that I wholeheartedly offer this recommendation for the services of Michael Shortt.

What a Litigation Lawyer Can Do for You

A litigation lawyer specializes in representing individuals, businesses, or organizations involved in legal disputes. Whether you're the one filing a lawsuit or you're being sued, a litigation attorney will advocate on your behalf throughout the entire legal process. Their goal is to resolve disputes, either through negotiation, settlement, or trial. Litigation lawyers can help with a wide range of disputes, including contract disagreements, real estate issues, employment disputes, personal injury claims, and more.

Litigation lawyers provide strategic legal advice and manage all aspects of your case, from filing motions to representing you in court, ensuring that your rights are protected and that you have the best chance of achieving a favorable outcome.

When Should I Hire a Litigation Lawyer?

You should consider hiring a litigation lawyer if you're involved in a legal dispute that you cannot resolve on your own. Common situations include:

  • Breach of contract disputes: If a party to a contract fails to fulfill their obligations, a litigation lawyer can help you seek damages or enforce the agreement.
  • Business disputes: Litigation lawyers can represent you in cases of partnership disagreements, intellectual property disputes, or business fraud.
  • Employment disputes: If you're facing issues like wrongful termination, workplace discrimination, or wage disputes, a litigation lawyer can help resolve these matters through negotiation or court action.
  • Personal injury claims: If you've been injured due to someone else's negligence and are seeking compensation, a litigation attorney can help you pursue your case.
  • Real estate or property disputes: When there are conflicts over property ownership, boundary issues, or lease agreements, a litigation lawyer can assist in resolving the dispute.

Hiring a lawyer early in the process is beneficial, especially if a lawsuit seems imminent or you have already been served with legal documents.

What Does a Litigation Lawyer Do?

A litigation lawyer handles all aspects of your case, from the initial investigation to the trial and even the appeals process, if necessary. Their role includes:

  • Case assessment and investigation: Analyzing the facts of your case and advising whether it’s worth pursuing or defending.
  • Pleadings and motions: Drafting and filing documents to initiate or respond to a lawsuit, including complaints, motions to dismiss, and answers.
  • Discovery: Gathering evidence, including depositions, interrogatories, and document requests, to build your case.
  • Negotiations and settlement discussions: Attempting to resolve disputes through mediation, arbitration, or settlement talks before going to trial.
  • Trial representation: Presenting your case in court, examining witnesses, introducing evidence, and making legal arguments before a judge or jury.
  • Appeals: If necessary, filing appeals to challenge or defend the outcome of the trial.

Litigation lawyers are also skilled negotiators and often work to resolve disputes outside of court to save time, money, and stress for their clients.

How Are Litigation Lawyers Paid?

Litigation lawyers typically use a variety of fee structures depending on the type of case, the complexity of the legal matter, and the financial circumstances of the client. Common payment arrangements include:

  • Hourly rates: Many litigation attorneys charge by the hour, with rates varying based on experience and geographic location.
  • Flat fees: For specific, predictable legal tasks (such as filing a motion), lawyers may offer a flat fee.
  • Contingency fees: In personal injury or other cases where you seek damages, a lawyer may work on a contingency basis, taking a percentage of the settlement or award if you win.
  • Retainer: Some clients pay a retainer fee upfront to secure ongoing legal services. The lawyer then bills against this retainer as work is done.

The exact structure should be discussed in the initial consultation to ensure you understand how and when you'll be charged.

How Much Does a Litigation Lawyer Cost?

The cost of a litigation lawyer varies significantly depending on the nature of the dispute and the lawyer’s experience. Factors affecting the cost include:

  • The complexity of the case: More complex litigation involving extensive discovery, expert witnesses, or multi-party suits typically costs more.
  • Time spent: Litigation cases can be time-consuming, especially if they go to trial. The longer the case, the higher the legal fees.
  • Type of fee arrangement: Hourly rates can range from $200 to over $1,000 per hour, depending on the lawyer’s reputation and location. Contingency fees generally range from 25% to 40% of the settlement or award.
  • Stage of litigation: Cases that settle early in the process are often less expensive than those that proceed to trial or appeal.

It’s crucial to ask about cost estimates during your initial consultation to avoid surprises.

Top Questions to Ask a Litigation Lawyer

Before hiring a litigation lawyer, it's essential to ask key questions to ensure you're choosing the right representation:

  1. What is your experience with cases like mine?
Ensure that the lawyer has experience handling your specific type of dispute, whether it's a contract issue, personal injury, or business matter.
  2. What are the potential outcomes of my case?
Ask for an honest assessment of your case's strengths, weaknesses, and the likelihood of success.
  3. What is your fee structure?
Clarify how you'll be charged, whether by the hour, a flat fee, or on a contingency basis.
  4. How long do you expect my case to take?
While it's hard to predict, an experienced lawyer can give you a rough estimate based on similar cases.
  5. How often do you settle cases versus going to trial?
Some lawyers are more inclined to settle, while others may be more experienced in the courtroom. It’s important to understand their strategy.
  6. What is your approach to resolving disputes?
Some lawyers prefer aggressive litigation, while others focus on settlement or mediation. Choose one whose approach aligns with your goals.

How to Check the Credibility of a Litigation Lawyer

To verify a litigation lawyer’s credibility, consider the following steps:

  • Check bar association records: Ensure the lawyer is in good standing with the state bar and has no history of disciplinary actions.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Online reviews can provide insight into the lawyer’s professionalism and track record.
  • Look for litigation experience: Review the lawyer’s website or professional profile to ensure they have handled cases like yours and have a record of success.
  • Request references: Ask the lawyer to provide references from past clients who can speak to their effectiveness and approach.
  • Research their trial experience: If your case is likely to go to trial, ensure the lawyer has a history of courtroom success.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make your first consultation with a litigation lawyer productive, you should prepare the following:

  • A clear outline of the dispute: Provide a timeline and key details about the legal issue you're facing.
  • Any relevant documents: Bring contracts, emails, letters, or any other documentation that pertains to the case.
  • A list of key players: Provide the names of individuals or companies involved in the dispute.
  • Questions about fees and the litigation process: Make sure you understand how the lawyer plans to approach your case and how you will be charged.
  • Your goals and expectations: Be clear about what outcome you're hoping for, whether it's a settlement, compensation, or another resolution.

By coming prepared, you can ensure that your initial meeting with the lawyer is both efficient and insightful, giving you a better sense of how to proceed with your case.
