My review about Attorney David Louis Brown Jr, is proven by supporting documentary evidence that I have in my possession, and my account of what happened is in chronological order as the events occured. (#1) On November 1st 2018 my Mother and I each signed a retainer agreement for 5,000 dollars for a certain probate attorney to represent us both on a upcoming December 6 the court proceeding (#1) This is when I read in a report that opposing counsel stated that there was a potential conflict my mother and I being represented by the same attorney, and opposing counsel stated that my mother would benefit from a court appointed attorney to represent her on the upcoming December 6th court proceeding. (#2) This was when I decided to retain the Law Firm where Attorney David Louis Brown was a associate for 9,000 dollars cash to work with the first attorney to remove the conflict that was brought up by opposing counsel and to give my mother the benefit if a private attorney. (#3) This is what occured next On November 2nd 2018, First Attorney notified me that he received the report from opposing counsel that requested that my mother be represented by a court appointed attorney. (#4) On November 2nd 2018 The evidence shows the first attorney sent a message to the head attorney where Attorney David Louis Brown, was a associate and stated that it seems on December 6th you will he representing my blank on the December 6th court proceeding and you or your partner Attorney David Louis Brown, will be representing blank on the December 6th court proceeding then he states likely a substitution of attorney would be appropriate as I filed opposition on behalf of blank. (#5) Now on November 28th 2018 Attorney David Louis Brown was instructed by the head attorney he was a associate at to obtain my signature on a substitution if attorney stated that they received a message from blank needing the substitution of attorney because he wanted to represent my mother on the upcoming December 6th court proceeding, so I signed the substitution of attorney. (#6) Now this is when there whole scheme started Attorney David Louis Browns Paralegal filed the Substitution of attorney without the signature of the first attorney who requested it, and wrote where he was suppose to sign signature was on next page which it wasn't, so she filed the Substitution of attorney without the signature of the first attorney. (#7) Now on December 4th 2018, the first attorney prepared a second substitution of attorney forged my signature on the substitution of attorney and used it to release himself from representing my mother on the upcoming December 6th court proceeding. (#8) Now on December 6th the first attorney failed to show up to court which allowed the court to appoint a court appointed attorney to represent my mother. (#9) Now when this occured I tried multiple times to get in touch with the first attorney but he kept avoiding my calls and visits to this office, (#10) Now on January 13th 2019. I got a message from first attorney telling me that I never retained him to represent my mother or myself and then he stated that Attorney David Brown asked the court if he could represent my mother and as expected the court denied hus request. and he kept the 10,000 dollar retainer. This is what I found out when I reviewed the substitution of attorney. The Substitution of attorney states that I released the first attorney and my mother's new attorney was Attorney David Louis Brown, but was really disturbing on the December 6th court proceeding Attorney David Louis Brown showed up to court representing me not my mother and he allowed the appointment of a court appointed attorney to represent my mother, abandoning my mother when he knew he was here new attorney. Every thing I just wrote is supported by documents , this is exactly what happened

I am a retired FBI Agent who is a licensed bonded private investigator in California. Joseph Salazar was retained for me by the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District (SMFD) where I was named in a lawsuit against them as a separate individual. SMFD voted in a Fire District Board meeting to offer me representation in the matter. Salazar represented both SMFD, and me. SMFD was empowered to withdraw their representation of me if I was found to be at fault or to have acted unethically. They never made that finding, nor withdrew their offer. Salazar, without any notice to me, or SMFD decided on his own that he would seek to have the entire matter forced onto my professional liability insurance. He provided a letter to me announcing his representation, and interviewed me as his client. Upon discovery of documents three years later, I discovered that Salazar, without anyone's knowledge, met with me, after he had announced his intention to "dump" the entire case onto my insurance carrier to seek my confidential information. After receiving the information he acted to turn the case over to my carrier. He failed. Instead my carrier picked up my representation only, and eventually Salazar represented the SMFD as they settled the case for a large amount of money. I did not settle and the plaintiff eventually abandoned their case. I learned with my discovery of documents that Salazar did not include in my file that was transferred to my new attorney his actions where he announced his intent to not represent me, before meeting with me. I sued Salazar and he prevailed based on the courts finding that I waited too long to take action. At issue was that Salazar had hidden his acts but whether I should have known of the harm when it occurred. According to the courts the victim is responsible to know when someone has acted against them, even before they can prove it. Nevertheless, it is my opinion and belief, for which I have documentation that Salazar is deceitful, unethical and represents based on the financial position of the client. Salazar, even after not representing me, took it upon himself to negatively affect my business by causing SMFD to delay my invoices for three years. Ironically the amount of time needed to exceed the statute. In my opinion Salazar in his legal capacity works for his own benefit which is usually the benefit of the insurance company to insure continued retention.

I hired Ed Correy and his protege Dan Kim with a very limited time frame (4 months) to start my case of a contest of my fathers will. After meeting with him he convinced me that I needed to hire outside litigation because he did not work on contingency. But first he wanted to issue a “demand letter” to get the ball rolling. Waiting for this letter took up all the time in my case!!! When the finished the first draft almost two months later it was sent to me for approval. After I approved they notified me that the letter included information that could cost us our case and would need to be rewritten-this was THEIR mistake and I paid for it-thousands and it ate up almost ALL of my time. By the time the final letter was sent I had days left to file city proceedings and zero time left to hear a settlement offer which the other side wanted to proceed with. And it cost me thousands to have a revised copy drafted because of their carelessness. At this point they said I had no choice but to file suit with the time I had left, and they would refer me to one of their associates. For obvious reasons I declined their offer to send me down the road to some affiliate of theirs, so I hired another attorney that I found on my own and hoped for the best. Luckily things are moving forward and I still somehow have a case no thanks to them at all. And to top it off after around 10k in attorney fees to them which were paid they are still sending me bills!!! This almost cost me my case entirely!!! Don’t go with these guys unless you have millions to flaunt or they simply won’t help you. or at least that’s how they treated me. And furthermore they dropped the ball on an out of state probate knowing there was a dispute there which is now a continuing and costly problem in my case. I strongly suggest you look for a better option if your considering hiring this company.

Me senti secepcionado, traicionado, utilizado, desesperado. Confundido y desorientado. I am a Disabled Latino Senior. I was referred to Mr. Braxton by the Santa Clara County Bar Association's Modest Means Program for people who are living below the poverty line. I had been doing my own divorce but needed help for a financial settlement part. Mr. Braxton said he would represent me at my CMC (Case Management Conference, Family Court) four weeks hence if I were to pay him $1,500.00 in two weeks. I did and a few days later said he could not represent me after all, the (Mediation) Conference was too complicated. My case was continued. The next Court date Mr. Braxton did not show up. The judge got mad at me. A year and a half has gone by, Mr. Braxton threatening me if I do not pay him another $300.00+ for research. Now he wants another $2,300.00 to represent me at my next CMC. It has been two years since I filed for divorce. He did zero so far. He doesn't care about me earning $7,000.00/year, all my physical ills, or my mental suffering and loneliness of losing my best friend (wife). He has done nothing but make me poorer and miserable. Please go somewhere else for help where someone has five stars.

Extremely horrible experience with the firm Kaiser and Chew. Took my case and agreed and signed agreement to charge me only if I was awarded settlement or won case. They dropped the case then claimed signed agreement by both parties was not found and sued me for thousands of dollars charging me for by the hour and all kinds of unapproved charges. Horrific experience

Ms. Haro - if only she was as good as she is in her own head. She was helping me with a case and I felt like she did not listen to my desires but instead pressured me in to making decisions I was not comfortable with. I actually stopped working with her and hired a new attorney because her condescending tone was too much for me to handle. Find an attorney who is willing to help not one who is simply looking to get the file off her desk like Summer did with me.

I hired Wei Zhong to represent me for a case. I felt that she was not very professional and only seemed to charge me for every little encounter. There were many times when I called the office to see if Wei Zhong was there and the receptionist said "no" but I was billed for the call. This attorney seemed to bill me for every little thing and took very little time to explain things clearly to me. Because of this, I don't feel that she is professional and doesn't have the client's interests at heart. She also doesn't seem to have much experience except in overbilling me which I feel may lead hear to lose my case.

What a Litigation Lawyer Can Do for You

A litigation lawyer specializes in representing individuals, businesses, or organizations involved in legal disputes. Whether you're the one filing a lawsuit or you're being sued, a litigation attorney will advocate on your behalf throughout the entire legal process. Their goal is to resolve disputes, either through negotiation, settlement, or trial. Litigation lawyers can help with a wide range of disputes, including contract disagreements, real estate issues, employment disputes, personal injury claims, and more.

Litigation lawyers provide strategic legal advice and manage all aspects of your case, from filing motions to representing you in court, ensuring that your rights are protected and that you have the best chance of achieving a favorable outcome.

When Should I Hire a Litigation Lawyer?

You should consider hiring a litigation lawyer if you're involved in a legal dispute that you cannot resolve on your own. Common situations include:

  • Breach of contract disputes: If a party to a contract fails to fulfill their obligations, a litigation lawyer can help you seek damages or enforce the agreement.
  • Business disputes: Litigation lawyers can represent you in cases of partnership disagreements, intellectual property disputes, or business fraud.
  • Employment disputes: If you're facing issues like wrongful termination, workplace discrimination, or wage disputes, a litigation lawyer can help resolve these matters through negotiation or court action.
  • Personal injury claims: If you've been injured due to someone else's negligence and are seeking compensation, a litigation attorney can help you pursue your case.
  • Real estate or property disputes: When there are conflicts over property ownership, boundary issues, or lease agreements, a litigation lawyer can assist in resolving the dispute.

Hiring a lawyer early in the process is beneficial, especially if a lawsuit seems imminent or you have already been served with legal documents.

What Does a Litigation Lawyer Do?

A litigation lawyer handles all aspects of your case, from the initial investigation to the trial and even the appeals process, if necessary. Their role includes:

  • Case assessment and investigation: Analyzing the facts of your case and advising whether it’s worth pursuing or defending.
  • Pleadings and motions: Drafting and filing documents to initiate or respond to a lawsuit, including complaints, motions to dismiss, and answers.
  • Discovery: Gathering evidence, including depositions, interrogatories, and document requests, to build your case.
  • Negotiations and settlement discussions: Attempting to resolve disputes through mediation, arbitration, or settlement talks before going to trial.
  • Trial representation: Presenting your case in court, examining witnesses, introducing evidence, and making legal arguments before a judge or jury.
  • Appeals: If necessary, filing appeals to challenge or defend the outcome of the trial.

Litigation lawyers are also skilled negotiators and often work to resolve disputes outside of court to save time, money, and stress for their clients.

How Are Litigation Lawyers Paid?

Litigation lawyers typically use a variety of fee structures depending on the type of case, the complexity of the legal matter, and the financial circumstances of the client. Common payment arrangements include:

  • Hourly rates: Many litigation attorneys charge by the hour, with rates varying based on experience and geographic location.
  • Flat fees: For specific, predictable legal tasks (such as filing a motion), lawyers may offer a flat fee.
  • Contingency fees: In personal injury or other cases where you seek damages, a lawyer may work on a contingency basis, taking a percentage of the settlement or award if you win.
  • Retainer: Some clients pay a retainer fee upfront to secure ongoing legal services. The lawyer then bills against this retainer as work is done.

The exact structure should be discussed in the initial consultation to ensure you understand how and when you'll be charged.

How Much Does a Litigation Lawyer Cost?

The cost of a litigation lawyer varies significantly depending on the nature of the dispute and the lawyer’s experience. Factors affecting the cost include:

  • The complexity of the case: More complex litigation involving extensive discovery, expert witnesses, or multi-party suits typically costs more.
  • Time spent: Litigation cases can be time-consuming, especially if they go to trial. The longer the case, the higher the legal fees.
  • Type of fee arrangement: Hourly rates can range from $200 to over $1,000 per hour, depending on the lawyer’s reputation and location. Contingency fees generally range from 25% to 40% of the settlement or award.
  • Stage of litigation: Cases that settle early in the process are often less expensive than those that proceed to trial or appeal.

It’s crucial to ask about cost estimates during your initial consultation to avoid surprises.

Top Questions to Ask a Litigation Lawyer

Before hiring a litigation lawyer, it's essential to ask key questions to ensure you're choosing the right representation:

  1. What is your experience with cases like mine?
Ensure that the lawyer has experience handling your specific type of dispute, whether it's a contract issue, personal injury, or business matter.
  2. What are the potential outcomes of my case?
Ask for an honest assessment of your case's strengths, weaknesses, and the likelihood of success.
  3. What is your fee structure?
Clarify how you'll be charged, whether by the hour, a flat fee, or on a contingency basis.
  4. How long do you expect my case to take?
While it's hard to predict, an experienced lawyer can give you a rough estimate based on similar cases.
  5. How often do you settle cases versus going to trial?
Some lawyers are more inclined to settle, while others may be more experienced in the courtroom. It’s important to understand their strategy.
  6. What is your approach to resolving disputes?
Some lawyers prefer aggressive litigation, while others focus on settlement or mediation. Choose one whose approach aligns with your goals.

How to Check the Credibility of a Litigation Lawyer

To verify a litigation lawyer’s credibility, consider the following steps:

  • Check bar association records: Ensure the lawyer is in good standing with the state bar and has no history of disciplinary actions.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Online reviews can provide insight into the lawyer’s professionalism and track record.
  • Look for litigation experience: Review the lawyer’s website or professional profile to ensure they have handled cases like yours and have a record of success.
  • Request references: Ask the lawyer to provide references from past clients who can speak to their effectiveness and approach.
  • Research their trial experience: If your case is likely to go to trial, ensure the lawyer has a history of courtroom success.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make your first consultation with a litigation lawyer productive, you should prepare the following:

  • A clear outline of the dispute: Provide a timeline and key details about the legal issue you're facing.
  • Any relevant documents: Bring contracts, emails, letters, or any other documentation that pertains to the case.
  • A list of key players: Provide the names of individuals or companies involved in the dispute.
  • Questions about fees and the litigation process: Make sure you understand how the lawyer plans to approach your case and how you will be charged.
  • Your goals and expectations: Be clear about what outcome you're hoping for, whether it's a settlement, compensation, or another resolution.

By coming prepared, you can ensure that your initial meeting with the lawyer is both efficient and insightful, giving you a better sense of how to proceed with your case.
