Ms. Warner spent a considerable amount of her time helping me to comprehend my situation, possible courses of action and the process that would ensue should I move forward. Kate even followed up by talking to several other experts regarding my case and relaying their information, thoughts and knowledge given my specific circumstance. In fact, Kate's guidance actually mitigated the need for me to seek a legal remedy and saved me tons of money, time and stress. Kate even recommended several other resources to consult with to validate our conversation. Kate was spot on and I would not hesitate to hire her in the future should the need arise. Thank you, Kate!

Ms. Warner advertises free consultation...and she does in spades! She spent 30 minutes with me helping me to comprehend my issues! Kate saved me tons of money by helping me to understand my legal rights and assisted me in understanding that I would likely lose money in any attempt to right a 'wrong' due to what it would monetarily take to prove my case.

I was shocked to speak with a lawyer who doesn't listen when others speak. He treated me as less than human, this is a disrespectful person who thinks his intellect makes him better than the rest of us. Well sir, I am of the 98th percentile intellectually. I'm sure you have enough money to not have empathy.

He made my case close by the court on August 31 2021 because he did not show up twice and did not serve the other part. He also said that nothing changed or he had to tell me after my case was dismissed thanks to him. After he did not show up the first time he had the courage to ask for more money .he will be reported to the state bar and sued . What a mistake was hire him, I lost my case and 2 years of time.Joe is incompetent, untrustworthy and lazy . He keep not answering messages and never reopened my case. He refuse to refund my money Wich he never worked for . The reviews on Facebook are from friends and family.

This is the most unprofessional and disorganized law firm I have ever encountered in 40 years of practice. Multiple calls and emails to the office went unanswered and messages unreturned. The few times a person did answer, there was no apparent record in the file of actions taken. A signed lien was not honored.

Sharon Mah is the worst lawyer in CA. Only panders to Judge Adams and other local attorneys to curry favor. Run don’t walk from this law office. I was completely destroyed financially. Her great work enabled my deadbeat spouse to take our childrens’ college funds. The worst. Go to Bley and Bley in SF. You will get what you pay for.

From a California Attorney: Sharon Mah continually opens and closes offices to erase reviews of her performance as a divorce attorney and officer of the court. She has an extensive history of representing spousal abusers, sidestepping bright ethical and moral lines to extend the reach and power of abusive spouses and abusive parents. She will set aside her professional obligations to damage or destroy your spouse's career. She must counsel on criminal law as her instructions to clients pose legal jeopardy. As one erased reviewer, a client of Attorney Mah explained, she is the perfect tool to destroy the lives around you, the psychological and emotional health of your children and should be hired if these are your goals. A lawyer who counsels' clients to take children to psychiatrists without obtaining required legal consent to try to get negative information to be used to deny custody? Uhuh. A lawyer who instructs and advises clients to steal highly valuable documents from secure locations, conspiring to hide them, personally taking possession and refusing to return them? Indeed. Making misrepresentions to the court like drinking water? Yup. Creating false representations about the role she takes, creating the false and fraudulent impression to the court and community that a client is representing himself since the lawyer's reputation for improper, illegal, unethical and fraudulent acts could damage a client's case? Terrible. As another erased reviewer recommended, call her immediately and do not hire her --- this way, your spouse cannot hire her either. This is her own advice to her clients in order to manipulate the selection of mediators, child services personnel and court judges to assure that only the most biased and toxic actors are inserted into your family's life. If your spouse has hired Sharon Mah, you need to use available resources to challenge her ability to serve in any capacity in your case. Do it. There are many fine, ethical attorneys to choose from. If you feel an urge to find a soldier to destroy your spouse, stop and find yourself help. She's old school, very old school and may just have missed the common understanding that abuse of a spouse includes abuse through litigatio. And to this particular point you should consider Ms. Mah a master enabler and even straight-up abuser of counterparties and other lawyers using her law license as a cudgel. It's quite disturbing to see her use professional standing and tenure to create human destruction against innocent adults and children alike. Thankfully, the justice system is evolving and recognizing abuse and abusers operating within family law system. The future looks better, with specific criminal statutes addressing the above behavior and criminalizing the type of deplorable actions which Ms. Mah has made a cornerstone of her career. Side deals, improper relationships with commissioners and judges, and corruption in the system of mediators and family law experts are being rooted out. Public corruption investions have done a little to chill these abuses, but the responsibility of allowing black hearts near your personal life and the lives of your children. Since she is best matched to spousal abusers, the damage to children is far down the priority list for such clients so as long as she's allowed to hold a license she'll find the clients who fit her professional mission and lack of care or commitment to the California justice system. She may be long retired or forced out of the business before such criminal statutes are finalized in California, so in the meantime I offer this warning and advice on how to manage and avoid just one danger of many that can certainly cause serious damage to you. Resist the urge to win at all costs because after selecting Ms Mah as legal counsel to carry on abuse of a spouse through litigation and child custody horrors will result in exactly that.

I found Richard online in 2013 shortly after my son was born. At the time, I was in an extremely difficult position because I was stationed in Kentucky and had no access to my son. Richard helped me get court-ordered visitation so that I can fly out and see my son regularly in addition to getting me visitation to see my son multiple days every week to see my son via FaceTime. If it wasn't for Richard, I wouldn't have been able to do this because I did not know how to navigate the court system at that time. Richard also wrote me a supporting letter to submit to my supervisors allowing me to move back to California ultimately leading to a actual parenting plan. Years later, Richard consulted with me and helped me with a request for 50-50 custody, which I now have. Today, I have a happy and healthy six-year-old son. I cannot thank Richard and his team enough for his help.

What a Litigation Lawyer Can Do for You

A litigation lawyer specializes in representing individuals, businesses, or organizations involved in legal disputes. Whether you're the one filing a lawsuit or you're being sued, a litigation attorney will advocate on your behalf throughout the entire legal process. Their goal is to resolve disputes, either through negotiation, settlement, or trial. Litigation lawyers can help with a wide range of disputes, including contract disagreements, real estate issues, employment disputes, personal injury claims, and more.

Litigation lawyers provide strategic legal advice and manage all aspects of your case, from filing motions to representing you in court, ensuring that your rights are protected and that you have the best chance of achieving a favorable outcome.

When Should I Hire a Litigation Lawyer?

You should consider hiring a litigation lawyer if you're involved in a legal dispute that you cannot resolve on your own. Common situations include:

  • Breach of contract disputes: If a party to a contract fails to fulfill their obligations, a litigation lawyer can help you seek damages or enforce the agreement.
  • Business disputes: Litigation lawyers can represent you in cases of partnership disagreements, intellectual property disputes, or business fraud.
  • Employment disputes: If you're facing issues like wrongful termination, workplace discrimination, or wage disputes, a litigation lawyer can help resolve these matters through negotiation or court action.
  • Personal injury claims: If you've been injured due to someone else's negligence and are seeking compensation, a litigation attorney can help you pursue your case.
  • Real estate or property disputes: When there are conflicts over property ownership, boundary issues, or lease agreements, a litigation lawyer can assist in resolving the dispute.

Hiring a lawyer early in the process is beneficial, especially if a lawsuit seems imminent or you have already been served with legal documents.

What Does a Litigation Lawyer Do?

A litigation lawyer handles all aspects of your case, from the initial investigation to the trial and even the appeals process, if necessary. Their role includes:

  • Case assessment and investigation: Analyzing the facts of your case and advising whether it’s worth pursuing or defending.
  • Pleadings and motions: Drafting and filing documents to initiate or respond to a lawsuit, including complaints, motions to dismiss, and answers.
  • Discovery: Gathering evidence, including depositions, interrogatories, and document requests, to build your case.
  • Negotiations and settlement discussions: Attempting to resolve disputes through mediation, arbitration, or settlement talks before going to trial.
  • Trial representation: Presenting your case in court, examining witnesses, introducing evidence, and making legal arguments before a judge or jury.
  • Appeals: If necessary, filing appeals to challenge or defend the outcome of the trial.

Litigation lawyers are also skilled negotiators and often work to resolve disputes outside of court to save time, money, and stress for their clients.

How Are Litigation Lawyers Paid?

Litigation lawyers typically use a variety of fee structures depending on the type of case, the complexity of the legal matter, and the financial circumstances of the client. Common payment arrangements include:

  • Hourly rates: Many litigation attorneys charge by the hour, with rates varying based on experience and geographic location.
  • Flat fees: For specific, predictable legal tasks (such as filing a motion), lawyers may offer a flat fee.
  • Contingency fees: In personal injury or other cases where you seek damages, a lawyer may work on a contingency basis, taking a percentage of the settlement or award if you win.
  • Retainer: Some clients pay a retainer fee upfront to secure ongoing legal services. The lawyer then bills against this retainer as work is done.

The exact structure should be discussed in the initial consultation to ensure you understand how and when you'll be charged.

How Much Does a Litigation Lawyer Cost?

The cost of a litigation lawyer varies significantly depending on the nature of the dispute and the lawyer’s experience. Factors affecting the cost include:

  • The complexity of the case: More complex litigation involving extensive discovery, expert witnesses, or multi-party suits typically costs more.
  • Time spent: Litigation cases can be time-consuming, especially if they go to trial. The longer the case, the higher the legal fees.
  • Type of fee arrangement: Hourly rates can range from $200 to over $1,000 per hour, depending on the lawyer’s reputation and location. Contingency fees generally range from 25% to 40% of the settlement or award.
  • Stage of litigation: Cases that settle early in the process are often less expensive than those that proceed to trial or appeal.

It’s crucial to ask about cost estimates during your initial consultation to avoid surprises.

Top Questions to Ask a Litigation Lawyer

Before hiring a litigation lawyer, it's essential to ask key questions to ensure you're choosing the right representation:

  1. What is your experience with cases like mine?
Ensure that the lawyer has experience handling your specific type of dispute, whether it's a contract issue, personal injury, or business matter.
  2. What are the potential outcomes of my case?
Ask for an honest assessment of your case's strengths, weaknesses, and the likelihood of success.
  3. What is your fee structure?
Clarify how you'll be charged, whether by the hour, a flat fee, or on a contingency basis.
  4. How long do you expect my case to take?
While it's hard to predict, an experienced lawyer can give you a rough estimate based on similar cases.
  5. How often do you settle cases versus going to trial?
Some lawyers are more inclined to settle, while others may be more experienced in the courtroom. It’s important to understand their strategy.
  6. What is your approach to resolving disputes?
Some lawyers prefer aggressive litigation, while others focus on settlement or mediation. Choose one whose approach aligns with your goals.

How to Check the Credibility of a Litigation Lawyer

To verify a litigation lawyer’s credibility, consider the following steps:

  • Check bar association records: Ensure the lawyer is in good standing with the state bar and has no history of disciplinary actions.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Online reviews can provide insight into the lawyer’s professionalism and track record.
  • Look for litigation experience: Review the lawyer’s website or professional profile to ensure they have handled cases like yours and have a record of success.
  • Request references: Ask the lawyer to provide references from past clients who can speak to their effectiveness and approach.
  • Research their trial experience: If your case is likely to go to trial, ensure the lawyer has a history of courtroom success.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make your first consultation with a litigation lawyer productive, you should prepare the following:

  • A clear outline of the dispute: Provide a timeline and key details about the legal issue you're facing.
  • Any relevant documents: Bring contracts, emails, letters, or any other documentation that pertains to the case.
  • A list of key players: Provide the names of individuals or companies involved in the dispute.
  • Questions about fees and the litigation process: Make sure you understand how the lawyer plans to approach your case and how you will be charged.
  • Your goals and expectations: Be clear about what outcome you're hoping for, whether it's a settlement, compensation, or another resolution.

By coming prepared, you can ensure that your initial meeting with the lawyer is both efficient and insightful, giving you a better sense of how to proceed with your case.
