Mr. Hamiton is very elderly, but seemed to still be quick on the draw. He understood the principles of the case and we agreed on the angle best to pursue the case... or so I thought. We corresponded for months prior to the court date ( summary judgment) I started to realize he wasn't following the information or keeping up/track of the evidence I was sending him. (given it was enormous amount of material for personal injury) So I went personally to his office to assist in sorting through the evidence. I had everything organized all the key documents and there purposes noted and ready. I was there 9 hours and it was indescribable, he simply wasn't up to date with technology , he didn't know what Docusign was. He couldn't remember or recognize which emails were coming from me or the defendants attorney. I know in his prime he was incredible.... but that had to be a very long time ago. Ultimately, I insisted he ask for a continuance, he repeatedly requested the declarations- ALREADY IN HIS POSSESSION, the secretary didn't know how to use file conversion software, she was retyping declarations because they used 'word' and our docs were in 'PDF' He ended up re-writing the declarations for us, turning pages into sentences and omitting the most detrimental details. He kept sending them via email asking us to sign , WE REFUSED TO SIGN BECAUSE OF THE DEGREE OF INACCURACY AND LACK OF DETAIL. He submitted his declarations to the court, even though we adamantly told him to. JUDGE GRANTED THE SUMMARY JUDGEMENT, HIS REASON? LACK OF DETAIL OR ANY SUBSTANCE TO THE DECLARATIONS- Which is the only requirement to get through a summary judgement! Then told us we had no recourse and sent a letter (AFTER the 10 day window for reconsideration!) informing us of the outcome, instead of calling or answering our calls! Therefore preventing us from fixing what he had done - THEN WOULDN'T WITHDRAW, SO WE COULD PURSUE A APPEAL OR TRY TO MOVE FORWARD PO SE!!!

I consulted with Mr. Hamilton after my 20-year-old son was jailed after an altercation with the police. Mr. Hamilton was wonderful at counseling me through the day and helping me find the best way to address the situation. He clearly knows what he is doing, and has many tools to offer in a situation where a family member is unexpectedly in a bad situation. I recommend him very highly.

I hired Charles Hamilton to assist me with a criminal misdeamenor case. He was knowledgable and very helpful in explaining the process. He responded respectfully and honestly with all my questions and promptly returned my calls and email messages. He clearly had extensive experience and was connected with other attorneys so as to facilitate and expedite the hearings within a readonable period of time. Most importantly, from beginning to end he was non-judgmental, had a good sense of humor and I had every confidence in him that he was working with my best interests in mind.

Kris is the consummate professional. Through her effective communication style and strategic approach she brings a combination of deep legal knowledge and experience with a high degree of client service. Kris not only provides direction down the path but she illuminates the way during the darkest moments. She is a leader and a partner. We were introduced to Kris Costello and her firm by our General Counsel to help us through a complicated employee/shareholder legal dispute with a former employee. The arguments he raised covered a broad spectrum of concerns. Each of these complex issues exposed our company to significant potential costs. While we believed we had provided an equitable and fair offer to terminate our relationship, one that in our view was compliant with the various governance documents of the company, the former employee/shareholder sought additional compensation and hired an aggressive firm to pursue his claims. Within minutes of being introduced to Kris and providing an overview of our situation, her organization skills and tenacity came through; we would soon learn the depth of her legal knowledge. Very quickly Kris was able to compartmentalize and articulate the issues back to us in a manner that we could understand and digest. She has clearly been through this type of situation many, many times before and swiftly connected the dots. Perhaps just as important was her ability to connect with us. We were frustrated and angry with this situation; Kris validated our feeling without patronizing us and made it clear that she would fight for us. Over the ensuing months Kris did exactly that - she fought for us. There were numerous rounds of demands from his lawyer and push back from our side. Kris and her team responded to each demand letter, always angling our position for a strong defense should this argument end up in court. Each carefully worded response was supported by thorough research. It was this research coupled with Kris' experience and fundamental knowledge of the law and "how the system works" that ultimately won the day. Over this period Kris had strategically guided these discussions to limit our exposure while directing us toward an offensive position. When the legal precedence supporting our position came through the Court in an unrelated case, we were ready to push back one final time. In the end, after working through these issues for over a year, we were able to reach a positive outcome without having to go through an expensive trial. Kris' stewardship, determination and legal prowess carried us through this difficult process providing a positive outcome for our company. I thoroughly enjoyed working with Kris and greatly appreciate her intelligence, work ethic and down to earthy personality. She is a real pleasure.

In Feb of 2014, I hired Ms Kris Costello to represent me on a felony DV charge. Ms Costello had advertised a rate of $7,000.00 but charged roughly $50,000.00 without explanation. She also never told me she was too busy working on other cases to take on mine. She kept postponing my right to a speedy trial for her own convenience. This wound up costing me a great deal of money and lost profits from stocks I had to sell in order to pay her, and meet my living expenses. She did not conduct a proper investigation, and never interviewed my 19 year old daughter who's was my primary accuser. A competent lawyer would have done so, and exposed the truth. After meeting my wife in the presence of her attorney at Ms. Costello's office, Ms. Costello recommended I take a plea deal because she claimed my wife came across as unstable, and that this would work against me at trail. She also claimed it would be more cost effective for me and my family finances. After the NCO was lifted, I found neither case was true. In short, I reluctantly accepted the plea deal. When I arrived in court, Ms. Costello showed me a piece of paper in which I was also to plead that "these things are true". She never discussed what "these things" were with me at any point before my plea. The only thing she said to me (while waiting in the courtroom to see the judge) was if I kept my mouth shut, then I would get to have unrestricted access to my 9 year old son. So, when the judge ask me if I had read and understood "these things are true", I lied to him upon her advice, and said yes. After hiring another attorney to review Ms Costello's work, I discovered that all of the things I pleaded "true" were lies. This included a lie by the DA that I had violated the NCO, and for which I was rearrested in lieu of $250,000.00 bail 2 days after my February 2014 arrest. I finally hired another lawyer several months and tens of thousands of dollars later to clean up Ms. Costello's mess, get the NCO entirely lifted, and reunite with my wife. On that day in court I learned that the NCO was still in effect with my 9 year old son, and that every moment I was with him I was subject to rearrest. Fortunately, this did not happen.

I have had an excellent experience with CCL and Ms. Choi in the matter of a complicated easement / title situation. The office staff was super responsive, appointments were scheduled quickly and in collaboration with my schedule/availability, and the meetings I had with Ms. Choi were focused, organized, and super productive. I felt that Ms. Choi was prepared for the meetings, understood what I was dealing with, and discussed with me multiple options and potential outcomes regarding this legal matter, which is going to end up in Court. I could not have asked for a better attorney for my situation (and I have consulted with others prior to CCL) and I very much look forward to my ongoing work with CCL and Ms. Choi. I recommend CCL and Ms. Choi wholeheartedly!

I arranged a meeting with her to discuss immigration matters and seek professional validation of the process I had completed on my own. Unfortunately, during our reunion, she seemed more focused on protecting herself than genuinely assisting me. However, when I attended my USCIS appointment today, everything was in order, and the concerns she raised did not materialize. It was a stressful experience unnecessarily.

I did not have a good experience with the law firm. My main issues is that Boyoon Choi would repeatedly interrupt me and cut me off before I could finish speaking and there were some mannerisms like scoffing (in a subtle but noticeable way) that came off as pretty condescending and I received a general negative feeling from the tone of voice she used with me. She was also 6 minutes late to our Zoom meeting but cut our 30 minute meeting short nonetheless so we really only had 24 minutes together. I'm sure she would probably bill the time for 30 minutes to my MetLife benefits and not the 24 minutes that I actually got. The way I see it, if a client does not have the correct understanding then inform them in a respectful way. Trying to be subtle with mannerisms like quietly scoffing or responding with a negative tone, one that felt a bit indignant towards me feels less like you're working with someone that's trying to advocate for you and more like you're talking to someone that's trying to take out whatever stress she may be having towards you. It seems that no wonder her staff seems to sound a bit on edge over the phone as I can imagine what it can be like to be subjected to that over time. She also knew that my home is in Snohomish County but told me that she can't help with the eviction process in that area, but took my money through my MetLife benefit anyway. That's pretty messed up. Lastly, I also felt it was problematic to be told that she did not know the RCW that covered why a 90 day notice to vacate due to sale is not enforceable unless it is specifically mentioned in the lease agreement. When I requested clarification for her to specify how is this the case, she could only tell me it's part of the general landlord tenant rights that a lease agreement has to specify that an early termination can take place due to sale and that this language would not be specifically mentioned due to it being covered under the general umbrella of tenant rights. However, RCW 59.18.650 clearly states it's permissible for a landlord to end a lease agreement early with cause for the purpose of selling a home. Boyoon Choi should really be careful with giving advice that she clearly does not know the basis for. It is concerning when you ask for the RCW that she does not know it, and scoffs at you while mentioning it's part of the general rights for a tenant. Anyways, here is what I was told by another source about the permissibility of ending a lease early to sell the home: In Washington State, typically, if a landlord provides a 90-day notice to vacate for the purpose of selling the property, this is generally considered lawful. In Washington State, the enforceability of a 90-day notice to vacate due to the sale of a property typically does not require a specific clause in the lease agreement stating that sale of the home entails the tenant moving out. The standard process allows landlords to issue such a notice as part of the rights to dispose of their property, assuming other legal and procedural requirements are met (e.g., proper notice period and service). Lastly, she was also incorrect about my MetLife legal benefit. She said I don't have benefits for litigation as part of my benefit but in my MetLife portal it clearly states: "This service covers the Participant as a landlord for matters involving leases, security deposits and disputes with a residential tenant. The service includes attorney services for the eviction of a tenant up to and including trial."

I am an attorney, and my son (15) has Down Syndrome. After two years of dealing with our district I was completely defeated. Lara and her team were recommended to my family through special ed networks, and I was overwhelmed when I asked for help. I felt like I had failed my child. Lara and her team, are quite remarkable, I feel like from the moment we met they knew where I was, where my son was, they were fully prepared with having reviewed all my sons IEP's, testing, and prior written notices. Lara and her team were able to write a pre litigation demand letter, and we achieved our goals so quickly. My son is thriving in a way that I felt was impossible last year at this time. I will not hesitate again to reach out and ask for help. Thank you over and over again!

I am an attorney but an issue came up outside my area of expertise and I needed an urgent consult with an education attorney. Lara responded very quickly to my (rather panicked) voicemail and listened with kindness. She was able to quickly unpack the relevant issues and give me concise, helpful advice that resulted in a good outcome. I offered to pay but she waived the consult fee because we were able to keep it short. This was not a professional favor- she did not know me or that I was an attorney before we spoke- she was just genuinely being kind. I left the call with a clear plan of what I needed to do. Had her advice not worked out right away I would have hired her to assist us in carrying the issue forward. She is clearly knowledgable and I cannot say enough about how helpful even a little of her advice was.

Our experience with Lara was awful! She told us a bunch of things when we started working with her that turn out not to be true. When she started with us she said she would be with us, supporting us the whole time. But when we needed her she wouldn't return our phone calls. She basically treated us like a piggy bank and tried to get the most money for the least amount of work. Basically every trope about ambulance chasing attorneys describe Lara. In my professional career I have worked with many attorneys and Lara is hands down the worst I have had the unfortunate opportunity to work with.

I went and met Mr. Anderson for a free 30 min consultation regarding professional negligence, he had no problem spending quite a bit more time discussing the details 2+ hours he spoke with me. I left feeling appreciative and optimistic, he kept my paperwork to look over the holiday week, just to familiarize himself with my case. Awsome rite? Wrong..... after 6 months of numerous emails and voice messages, I finally caught him by phone to make a follow up appt. He offered no explanation for the non-communication, and that appt he set never happend. Now its been another 6 months (over a year now total) Ive called and emailed repeatedly with no response. Last week I called from a private number and he answered ...scheduled a time for me to come meet him to get my documents. The morning before we were scheduled to meet I spoke with him again and he asked to reschedule, saying he was having breakfast with colleague of his who was interested about my case the next morning and wanted to have the paperwork to show him. Well .... I guess after so long of not hearing a word from him I shouldnt have agreed to reschedule, needless to say I didnt hear back from him and he surely hasnt responded to emails or calls. He seemed genuinely interested in my situation I really didnt expect this type of conduct- Im obviously mad...

Andrew represented me after I was hit by a motor vehicle and sustained serious injuries. Andrew gave me sound advice and advocated tenaciously for me. He and his team incuding his paralegal, Deb, were available at every turn. Andrew explained each step and all strategy in a straightforward way that left me and my family feeling more secure knowing our rights were protected. Nobody wants to go through this kind of experience. It can be confusing to select a lawyer, but if you find yourself needing excellent representation, Andrew has the experience, knowledge and personality that you can trust.

I am skeptical in the first place if I should be hiring an attorney for my son's accident when someone referred me to Andrew. We met and Andrew answer all my queries with a lot of patience, every single questions were answered and explained. We hired Andrew to represent us and I have no regret in doing so. There are so many daunting tasks involved in a personal injury claim but Andrew and Debra render their support and guidance in every single step I should take. Andrew and Debra provides a lot of transparency in terms of the case progress, and are responsive all the time. Andrew also step up to fight for our rights disregard the monetary amount, and the case was settled in a surprisingly short period of time. I would definitely recommend Andrew and his team to anyone who are in need.

I was blessed to have had Scott represent me during my L&I claim, while he was at another firm. There are NO words to express how much I miss him. The L&I system is very broken. Someone like me is not treated well by self-insured employers third party administrators. (it's a long story). However, when communicating with Scott, he ALWAYS made me feel like I was cared for, that I mattered, and he believed in me. The comfort he gave me throughout the time I was blessed to have been working with him, goes unmatched. I was someone that felt defeated. I was beyond depressed to the point of not wanting to not be on this earth anymore and truly in a state of confusion/struggle. But, the moment Scott would get on the phone with me, it was clear he cared. I felt it! Scott was a great listener. And was great at helping me understand what to expect. Which eased my mind. Feeling as if you are being heard is vital and Scott ALWAYS made me feel that. I MISS HIM SO MUCH. SOOOO, MUCH! My case has gone downhill since he left. I feel like I have no one truly advocating for me anymore. Scott if you are reading this.... THANK YOU for the time you gave me. There truly are no words to express my gratitude for how you made me feel. You gave me strength when I felt beyond drained. You gave me hope when I felt the system was just swishing me like a bug. You made me feel HEARD and that is priceless. Be well and know you are MISSED!

Laurie Shiratori is a great lawyer to work with. She is very prompt in responding to all our phone calls, texts and e- mails. She gave us updates on our claims and she was very thorough in her explanations whenever we have questions. She understood that we're already undergoing a lot of physical pains and stresses and she helped a lot by taking care of the medical bills and working with the claim companies, doctors and other legal matters. You know that she genuinely care about you. She followed thru on what she told us, about her qualifications as a lawyer. It's hard for me to trust anyone but she gained my trust. She has a great work ethics and my husband and I would recommend her. We gained a great lawyer and a friend in the process.

What a Litigation Lawyer Can Do for You

A litigation lawyer specializes in representing individuals, businesses, or organizations involved in legal disputes. Whether you're the one filing a lawsuit or you're being sued, a litigation attorney will advocate on your behalf throughout the entire legal process. Their goal is to resolve disputes, either through negotiation, settlement, or trial. Litigation lawyers can help with a wide range of disputes, including contract disagreements, real estate issues, employment disputes, personal injury claims, and more.

Litigation lawyers provide strategic legal advice and manage all aspects of your case, from filing motions to representing you in court, ensuring that your rights are protected and that you have the best chance of achieving a favorable outcome.

When Should I Hire a Litigation Lawyer?

You should consider hiring a litigation lawyer if you're involved in a legal dispute that you cannot resolve on your own. Common situations include:

  • Breach of contract disputes: If a party to a contract fails to fulfill their obligations, a litigation lawyer can help you seek damages or enforce the agreement.
  • Business disputes: Litigation lawyers can represent you in cases of partnership disagreements, intellectual property disputes, or business fraud.
  • Employment disputes: If you're facing issues like wrongful termination, workplace discrimination, or wage disputes, a litigation lawyer can help resolve these matters through negotiation or court action.
  • Personal injury claims: If you've been injured due to someone else's negligence and are seeking compensation, a litigation attorney can help you pursue your case.
  • Real estate or property disputes: When there are conflicts over property ownership, boundary issues, or lease agreements, a litigation lawyer can assist in resolving the dispute.

Hiring a lawyer early in the process is beneficial, especially if a lawsuit seems imminent or you have already been served with legal documents.

What Does a Litigation Lawyer Do?

A litigation lawyer handles all aspects of your case, from the initial investigation to the trial and even the appeals process, if necessary. Their role includes:

  • Case assessment and investigation: Analyzing the facts of your case and advising whether it’s worth pursuing or defending.
  • Pleadings and motions: Drafting and filing documents to initiate or respond to a lawsuit, including complaints, motions to dismiss, and answers.
  • Discovery: Gathering evidence, including depositions, interrogatories, and document requests, to build your case.
  • Negotiations and settlement discussions: Attempting to resolve disputes through mediation, arbitration, or settlement talks before going to trial.
  • Trial representation: Presenting your case in court, examining witnesses, introducing evidence, and making legal arguments before a judge or jury.
  • Appeals: If necessary, filing appeals to challenge or defend the outcome of the trial.

Litigation lawyers are also skilled negotiators and often work to resolve disputes outside of court to save time, money, and stress for their clients.

How Are Litigation Lawyers Paid?

Litigation lawyers typically use a variety of fee structures depending on the type of case, the complexity of the legal matter, and the financial circumstances of the client. Common payment arrangements include:

  • Hourly rates: Many litigation attorneys charge by the hour, with rates varying based on experience and geographic location.
  • Flat fees: For specific, predictable legal tasks (such as filing a motion), lawyers may offer a flat fee.
  • Contingency fees: In personal injury or other cases where you seek damages, a lawyer may work on a contingency basis, taking a percentage of the settlement or award if you win.
  • Retainer: Some clients pay a retainer fee upfront to secure ongoing legal services. The lawyer then bills against this retainer as work is done.

The exact structure should be discussed in the initial consultation to ensure you understand how and when you'll be charged.

How Much Does a Litigation Lawyer Cost?

The cost of a litigation lawyer varies significantly depending on the nature of the dispute and the lawyer’s experience. Factors affecting the cost include:

  • The complexity of the case: More complex litigation involving extensive discovery, expert witnesses, or multi-party suits typically costs more.
  • Time spent: Litigation cases can be time-consuming, especially if they go to trial. The longer the case, the higher the legal fees.
  • Type of fee arrangement: Hourly rates can range from $200 to over $1,000 per hour, depending on the lawyer’s reputation and location. Contingency fees generally range from 25% to 40% of the settlement or award.
  • Stage of litigation: Cases that settle early in the process are often less expensive than those that proceed to trial or appeal.

It’s crucial to ask about cost estimates during your initial consultation to avoid surprises.

Top Questions to Ask a Litigation Lawyer

Before hiring a litigation lawyer, it's essential to ask key questions to ensure you're choosing the right representation:

  1. What is your experience with cases like mine?
Ensure that the lawyer has experience handling your specific type of dispute, whether it's a contract issue, personal injury, or business matter.
  2. What are the potential outcomes of my case?
Ask for an honest assessment of your case's strengths, weaknesses, and the likelihood of success.
  3. What is your fee structure?
Clarify how you'll be charged, whether by the hour, a flat fee, or on a contingency basis.
  4. How long do you expect my case to take?
While it's hard to predict, an experienced lawyer can give you a rough estimate based on similar cases.
  5. How often do you settle cases versus going to trial?
Some lawyers are more inclined to settle, while others may be more experienced in the courtroom. It’s important to understand their strategy.
  6. What is your approach to resolving disputes?
Some lawyers prefer aggressive litigation, while others focus on settlement or mediation. Choose one whose approach aligns with your goals.

How to Check the Credibility of a Litigation Lawyer

To verify a litigation lawyer’s credibility, consider the following steps:

  • Check bar association records: Ensure the lawyer is in good standing with the state bar and has no history of disciplinary actions.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Online reviews can provide insight into the lawyer’s professionalism and track record.
  • Look for litigation experience: Review the lawyer’s website or professional profile to ensure they have handled cases like yours and have a record of success.
  • Request references: Ask the lawyer to provide references from past clients who can speak to their effectiveness and approach.
  • Research their trial experience: If your case is likely to go to trial, ensure the lawyer has a history of courtroom success.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make your first consultation with a litigation lawyer productive, you should prepare the following:

  • A clear outline of the dispute: Provide a timeline and key details about the legal issue you're facing.
  • Any relevant documents: Bring contracts, emails, letters, or any other documentation that pertains to the case.
  • A list of key players: Provide the names of individuals or companies involved in the dispute.
  • Questions about fees and the litigation process: Make sure you understand how the lawyer plans to approach your case and how you will be charged.
  • Your goals and expectations: Be clear about what outcome you're hoping for, whether it's a settlement, compensation, or another resolution.

By coming prepared, you can ensure that your initial meeting with the lawyer is both efficient and insightful, giving you a better sense of how to proceed with your case.
