Sara represented us in a boundary dispute with a neighboring HOA. She was thorough, sensitive to the stress a lawsuit caused us, was incredibly up to date on the latest applicable laws and zealously represented our interests. We were very happy with the outcome and could not have done it without here. Highly recommend her.

She represented us for over seven months. She intentionally keep legal information from us such as when the opposite party failed to file the reply counter claim. Instead of to act on her clients request and clients' best interest to end the disputes, she lied to the court, filed the proceeding extension requested motion without our knowledge and approval to prolong the case to benefit herself finically, and on behalf of opposite party. She is an unethical and unprofessional lawyer!

Russell and his team were on the ball and always responded right away. I was given his name as a referral from a friend and he fought for my rights the way you'd expect when you hire an attorney. I had a great experience and would use them again.

I negotiated a settlement and when I went to his office to pay they refused payment and wouldn't allow me to talk to Russell. I told his staff member that I keep feeling like Russell is doing something really shady and I asked if he was an honest guy. I was told "yes he is very honest but he is an attorney." You will never be able to reach the guy and you will be left in the dark.

Arrogant and incompetent. She never wanted to see or send the evidence of my case to court. She sold me a plan that would supposedly resolve my case in 3 months and simply did not comply. She leave the case without telling me and go on a trip and leaving a person that don't have any idea of case. The case was turned against me and as I did not agree they told me that if I was not agree, they would charge me money that I had already paid months ago and that she was not going to allow me to harm her prestige since she had to please the judge and the commissioner. I ended up firing her and looking for another lawyer. I don't recommend it at all. Nor did they return my full money for non-compliance of his work

On April 13, 2015, I retained Russell A. Cline of Crippen & Cline to handle a case in US Federal District Court. Sometime later, Mr. Cline prepared a Representation Contract in which he promised to represent me in both the US District Court and 10th Circuit Court and then again in US District Court. On September 29, 2015, Mr. Cline attended a hearing and argued the July 2005 statute of limitations clock reset date. The judge ordered additional briefings by both parties. Mr. Cline was to argue the July 2005 date and the October 2005 reset date per the order of the court. Mr. Cline failed to argue the July 2005 reset date which was the crux of my case. Due to his failure to argue the proper statute of limitations date in the District Court, I lost the case. I filed an appeal in the 10th Circuit Court. Mr. Cline then immediately commenced arguing the correct date of July 2005 which caused that appeal to fail since no "new evidence" could be presented on appeal. Mr. Cline then turned tail and ran after the 10th Circuit instead of doing as the Representation Contract stated that he would handle the case back in District Court after the 10th Circuit. Mr. Cline would file documents in both courts without proof reading them and would get dates and other items wrong. I would review the filed documents and he would have to file an amended pleading. Very sloppy work plus he failed to honor his end of our contract and is in breach of contract. To date, I have paid Russell A. Cline, Esq. of Crippen & Cline, $10,000.00. I cannot recommend Mr. Cline or Crippen and Cline to anyone.

Mr. Cline has felt more like a friend than an attorney, but in a very professional way. I grew up with a lot of respect for the Study of Law, because my father and grandfathers were attorneys, of the highest order. They truly loved to help people through the law, and Mr. Cline has proved his is of the highest caliber over a long case we hired him for. Mr. Cline was patient, persistent, and responsive after we could finally get a Trial set. After 1 1/2 years of the Defendants trying to avoid or drag out the case, hoping we would give up, we finally saw Mr. Cline in a court situation. The best part, is that we WON everything we had asked for, even though there was the loss of the use of our property in that time. We are happy to give him the highest marks!

I paid them a retainer up-front to get started. And without ever having a conversation with them, they burned through most of it. I don't mind paying something for document review and a discussion, but all Keiter did was glance at some documents. Didn't provide any legal advice. We gave them a chance to make it right, but they insisted on keeping the money. So that's why I'm letting everyone know in this review. If you care about reputation, take care of your customers. Even negative reviews can be turned around. We all make mistakes-- but sometimes, like here, it's intentional and they prefer money or morals. I never even got to talk to this lawyer about the case once. So I'd say the value was pretty low. Not looking for a free consultation, but if you don't actually start and we don't even get to discuss the case, why pocket the money? Even if the client was completely wrong and a jerk, is it really worth ruining your reputation from having the client tell everyone what you did to them?

Trevor Fugate took over my divorce case after my previous lawyer, whom I'd only worked with for a couple weeks, left the practice for another firm. He caught up quickly with the particulars of my case, was great at responding to my emails, and explained everything going on clearly. He was also quite personable and easy to chat with for the five to six hours we were together in mediation. And last but not least, when my soon-to-be-ex-husband's lawyer kept (repeatedly) dropping the ball and stalling progress on the case, Trevor took it upon himself to do the other lawyer's job for him, pro bono, and push my divorce through the court. Great guy all around.

Mr. Jensen is emotional and irrational. He seems to completely misunderstand the court's procedures. He went on an extensive diatribe bashing the character of one of the other parties during a preliminary hearing. The court was simply determining whether or not litigation should commence, and trying to determining the scope of discover. The judge had to tell him that his remarks were unnecessary and outside the purposes of the hearing that day.

Mike Jensen is excellent. I was involved in a family dispute. On a recommendation of another attorney, I hired someone else. I came to regret it because the other attorney(s) let things get out of hand. Plus they passed the case between three attorneys in under two months ("oh, he's suddenly really busy") while charging me fees for getting each of those attorneys up to speed, but letting the other side gain advantage. Mike shut the other side down. He knows statute and case law and uses them efficiently. My only regret was not hiring him from the start.

He doesn't listen but loves to talk. I paid over $12,000 for nothing except a deadline extention "so he had time to review my case". Every meeting we had was primarily spent with him telling me about golf and making golf analogies. I kept telling him that I don't know or want to know about golf so let's just stick to the facts of my case, instead he kept trying to explain how golf was like my case. I even heard about his kid's activities in a golf team at school. Mr Rooker apparently had a meeting with other attornies in his office to plan subpeonas but after a couple months they still had not been prepared or issued and I never saw them. For over $12,000 I he did on my case was get an extention that I didn't want. I bet if he was asked about my case, he wouldn't be able to get even 10 facts correct because he never listened and was making up stories to make my case fit what he wanted it to to win.

I've never written an online review, but I was traveling and looking for Mr. Rooker's contact information online when I saw a disparaging review of him on this site. I don't know the author of that review, but I know and have worked periodically with Mr. Rooker for more than 20 years (he's represented me and several people I've referred to him). I can say unequivocally that Mr. Rooker is an exceptional, diligent, and honest attorney. I know from personal experience that he is respected by other attorneys and judges. I believe the critique of Mr. Rooker on this site is the result of miscommunication/misunderstanding, was written by someone who did not want to hear candid, hard, honest advice, or was actually written by an adverse party who did not like having Mr. Rooker on the other side of a case.

I needed him for a similar case he had previously, and he was recommended because of that. He was a bully, and didn't really listen to understand what I needed from the get go. Right away he began arguing with me, but then pulled in several colleagues so they could "listen" and opine on what we should do. So I wasted a day and he charged me $6000 and even his sandwich lunch he ordered from the shop next door!!!! And I only fully realized near the end of the day, me telling my story the whole time, that he had NO intention of taking the case, and was just pulling in several attorneys and wasting my time just to get money! He isn't as intelligent on the issues, so he acts aggressive and bullying. I should have walked out within 5 minutes. Even though he swore up and down I would lose the case, I went to his competitor (who I wanted to use at the beginning, but wasn't available that day), and She was MUCH better, WAY more intelligent and capable, and WE WON! So don't go for his bullying pushy rhetoric. Choose someone you will feel comfortable with.

I worked wil Hal on a possession, paraphernalia and driving impaired charge. While he was very very polite and charismatic; he lacked the basic knowledge for these types of cases. He was completely unaware of the driver license suspension action that takes place during these types of cases. I was quite aware that he usually does not take on cases like this, but I specifically said, "If you feel uncomfortable with this type of case, at all, please tell me and I will find somebody else." To which he responded with confirmation of his ability and intention. But as I have said in the title, integrity can only take you so far. My ONLY priority was my ability to drive, and when he made the deal with the prosecutor he told me that I would be able to drive. I was ecstatic, a week after the sentencing I receive a letter in the mail stating that my license has been suspended. Because of him, and his lack of knowledge, I was driving on a suspended license a little over a week. I would not recommend Hal for any type of drug or driving case. He is a very easy man to work with, I just wish his research would have matched his intention.

The secretary would only take my contact information and credit card and demanded a 275.00 without any information about the case. I suspect I pay 275. sit with this guy and then have him charge me more or tell me he cannot take the case. I have contacted other attorneys who want a background first and offer a free consultation. I saw Erik Strindberg in a newspaper article and felt like that case was similar enough to ours and I was impressed by him. The first meeting was okay. But then it got weird. He could never get our last name right and spelled it wrong on every document and even in emails. How do you continue to spell a semi-common name incorrectly despite signature lines and such? We came in once at his request for hearing prep and he acted like he had no idea who we were and seemed very confused, walking in and out of the room, losing his train of thought frequently and just having no clue about the facts of the case. Not exactly a confidence booster. He treated us like we must be some kind of country bumpkins because we lived in a county other than Salt Lake. He said rude things about the opposing attorney, referring to him as "small time", completely overestimating his own abilities. Plus, he let the STATUTE OF LIMITATIONS LAPSE. Obviously, not a win for us. He seemed to be entirely unaware of the SOL although it was within his specialty. I should have turned him into the Utah state bar.

You only know how good your divorce papers are after you are divorced and the papers are directing parents to work together. I hired Mike and we drew up papers and went to mediaton. My divorce decree has been back to court three times in 2 years, all the while my X has moved from Vegas to California and then back to Utah. While my X has broken our decree many times it costs thousands to accuse and prove it. Once proven nothing changes because the kids are not in danger or being harmed. Mean while items that Mike consulted me to agree to put me at a huge disadvantaged position as a parent. While I have 50/50 physical and legal custody specific words that her more experienced attorney used makes it more like 90/10. Just a few of the major issues that specific words put us at a huge disadvantage are; 1: I’ve been responsible for all transportation of he children. (Be careful, at one place in my decree it says all travel should be shared other places in the decree says I am responsible. Ultimately I have been the one responsible) 2. I can never take the kids out of school early or keep them home on any circumstances, while my X takes them out when ever she wants. 3. First right of refusal to get your kids instead of daycare has requirements that are excessive, costly and inconvenient. 4. The custodial parent clause is a very small sentence that gets in the way of everything being equal. “When the parties cannot agree the custodial parent will have the final say” Guess what that means, the custodial parent makes the decisions on everything with out consulting you ever. This little sentence invalidates 23 pages of the decree that we spent thousands to come up with. I liked Mike as a person but severely regret hiring him as my attorney. Be careful, the legal system around divorce in Utah is twisted. The only people who win are lawyers, mediators, commissioners and judges that keep their jobs. If your lawyer is not great and leaves holes in your divorce decree plan on going back to court. Getting a decree inforced or changed is as hard and costly as the decree itself.

I hate to leave a negative review for anyone, but my experience with Mike Bringhurst was so awful that I feel inclined to warn people before they go through what I did. When I first reached out to Mike for my divorce, he was on top of his game. Quick to respond, persistent, and seemed eager to help. Even agreed over the phone on a lower retainer as I was financially strapped with my divorce. After my consult, he changed the retainer amount to a higher dollar than agreed upon. I ended up paying anyway to get my divorce going. Once I gave him the check - crickets. He had all my paperwork, money, info, etc in February and told me he could get my wife served within 24-48 hours. SHE WASN'T SERVED UNTIL MAY 30TH!!! When her lawyer responded to the petition for divorce, it was a proposal for my wife to have Sole Legal Custody of my daughter. Mike didn't explain to me what that meant (FYI - DO NOT AGREE TO THAT CUSTODY UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE). I clearly explained to Mike that I wanted joint custody (now I know this is called Joint Legal) yet he was completely fine in knowing I was getting screwed over and would ultimately be sacrificing time and legal rights to my daughter. It took him days to respond to my calls or emails, and when he did they were short and uninformative. When I notified him I would be changing lawyers, I asked him for a printed receipt of what work had been done against my retainer (which wasn't much) and he threatened me saying "there was so much work done" it would result in me owing him more money. NOT POSSIBLE. I now am happily divorced after moving to a different attorney. My new attorney got everything re-filed, mediated, finalized, signed sealed delivered (with EVERYTHING I asked for, including Joint Legal Custody of my daughter) for over $600 less than what I put on retainer with Bringhurst - and in less than 3 months time. Mike didn't even serve my (now) ex with papers in that amount of time...Do yourself a favor and look elsewhere before meeting with him.

Mr. Booth was slow to respond and missed important deadlines. Seems only worried about his payments, even when the work performed were less than quality. When you have to start almost every sentence with "Sorry" something is wrong. Could have cost me $100 of thousands of dollars. I have had many attorneys over the years (30+) of successful business. I hired him on a referral as an "expert" in a RE foreclosure situation. This has been my poorest experience thus far. FYI: I paid the bills and moved on

What a Litigation Lawyer Can Do for You

A litigation lawyer specializes in representing individuals, businesses, or organizations involved in legal disputes. Whether you're the one filing a lawsuit or you're being sued, a litigation attorney will advocate on your behalf throughout the entire legal process. Their goal is to resolve disputes, either through negotiation, settlement, or trial. Litigation lawyers can help with a wide range of disputes, including contract disagreements, real estate issues, employment disputes, personal injury claims, and more.

Litigation lawyers provide strategic legal advice and manage all aspects of your case, from filing motions to representing you in court, ensuring that your rights are protected and that you have the best chance of achieving a favorable outcome.

When Should I Hire a Litigation Lawyer?

You should consider hiring a litigation lawyer if you're involved in a legal dispute that you cannot resolve on your own. Common situations include:

  • Breach of contract disputes: If a party to a contract fails to fulfill their obligations, a litigation lawyer can help you seek damages or enforce the agreement.
  • Business disputes: Litigation lawyers can represent you in cases of partnership disagreements, intellectual property disputes, or business fraud.
  • Employment disputes: If you're facing issues like wrongful termination, workplace discrimination, or wage disputes, a litigation lawyer can help resolve these matters through negotiation or court action.
  • Personal injury claims: If you've been injured due to someone else's negligence and are seeking compensation, a litigation attorney can help you pursue your case.
  • Real estate or property disputes: When there are conflicts over property ownership, boundary issues, or lease agreements, a litigation lawyer can assist in resolving the dispute.

Hiring a lawyer early in the process is beneficial, especially if a lawsuit seems imminent or you have already been served with legal documents.

What Does a Litigation Lawyer Do?

A litigation lawyer handles all aspects of your case, from the initial investigation to the trial and even the appeals process, if necessary. Their role includes:

  • Case assessment and investigation: Analyzing the facts of your case and advising whether it’s worth pursuing or defending.
  • Pleadings and motions: Drafting and filing documents to initiate or respond to a lawsuit, including complaints, motions to dismiss, and answers.
  • Discovery: Gathering evidence, including depositions, interrogatories, and document requests, to build your case.
  • Negotiations and settlement discussions: Attempting to resolve disputes through mediation, arbitration, or settlement talks before going to trial.
  • Trial representation: Presenting your case in court, examining witnesses, introducing evidence, and making legal arguments before a judge or jury.
  • Appeals: If necessary, filing appeals to challenge or defend the outcome of the trial.

Litigation lawyers are also skilled negotiators and often work to resolve disputes outside of court to save time, money, and stress for their clients.

How Are Litigation Lawyers Paid?

Litigation lawyers typically use a variety of fee structures depending on the type of case, the complexity of the legal matter, and the financial circumstances of the client. Common payment arrangements include:

  • Hourly rates: Many litigation attorneys charge by the hour, with rates varying based on experience and geographic location.
  • Flat fees: For specific, predictable legal tasks (such as filing a motion), lawyers may offer a flat fee.
  • Contingency fees: In personal injury or other cases where you seek damages, a lawyer may work on a contingency basis, taking a percentage of the settlement or award if you win.
  • Retainer: Some clients pay a retainer fee upfront to secure ongoing legal services. The lawyer then bills against this retainer as work is done.

The exact structure should be discussed in the initial consultation to ensure you understand how and when you'll be charged.

How Much Does a Litigation Lawyer Cost?

The cost of a litigation lawyer varies significantly depending on the nature of the dispute and the lawyer’s experience. Factors affecting the cost include:

  • The complexity of the case: More complex litigation involving extensive discovery, expert witnesses, or multi-party suits typically costs more.
  • Time spent: Litigation cases can be time-consuming, especially if they go to trial. The longer the case, the higher the legal fees.
  • Type of fee arrangement: Hourly rates can range from $200 to over $1,000 per hour, depending on the lawyer’s reputation and location. Contingency fees generally range from 25% to 40% of the settlement or award.
  • Stage of litigation: Cases that settle early in the process are often less expensive than those that proceed to trial or appeal.

It’s crucial to ask about cost estimates during your initial consultation to avoid surprises.

Top Questions to Ask a Litigation Lawyer

Before hiring a litigation lawyer, it's essential to ask key questions to ensure you're choosing the right representation:

  1. What is your experience with cases like mine?
Ensure that the lawyer has experience handling your specific type of dispute, whether it's a contract issue, personal injury, or business matter.
  2. What are the potential outcomes of my case?
Ask for an honest assessment of your case's strengths, weaknesses, and the likelihood of success.
  3. What is your fee structure?
Clarify how you'll be charged, whether by the hour, a flat fee, or on a contingency basis.

While it's hard to predict, an experienced lawyer can give you a rough estimate based on similar cases.
  5. How often do you settle cases versus going to trial?
Some lawyers are more inclined to settle, while others may be more experienced in the courtroom. It’s important to understand their strategy.
  6. What is your approach to resolving disputes?
Some lawyers prefer aggressive litigation, while others focus on settlement or mediation. Choose one whose approach aligns with your goals.

How to Check the Credibility of a Litigation Lawyer

To verify a litigation lawyer’s credibility, consider the following steps:

  • Check bar association records: Ensure the lawyer is in good standing with the state bar and has no history of disciplinary actions.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Online reviews can provide insight into the lawyer’s professionalism and track record.
  • Look for litigation experience: Review the lawyer’s website or professional profile to ensure they have handled cases like yours and have a record of success.
  • Request references: Ask the lawyer to provide references from past clients who can speak to their effectiveness and approach.
  • Research their trial experience: If your case is likely to go to trial, ensure the lawyer has a history of courtroom success.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make your first consultation with a litigation lawyer productive, you should prepare the following:

  • A clear outline of the dispute: Provide a timeline and key details about the legal issue you're facing.
  • Any relevant documents: Bring contracts, emails, letters, or any other documentation that pertains to the case.
  • A list of key players: Provide the names of individuals or companies involved in the dispute.
  • Questions about fees and the litigation process: Make sure you understand how the lawyer plans to approach your case and how you will be charged.
  • Your goals and expectations: Be clear about what outcome you're hoping for, whether it's a settlement, compensation, or another resolution.

By coming prepared, you can ensure that your initial meeting with the lawyer is both efficient and insightful, giving you a better sense of how to proceed with your case.
