Back in August, I called Goldfarb & Luu to update my revocable trust. I last updated in 2001.
The quote was $1050.00 depending on how much time is spent reviewing it. If a paralegal reviews it. It is $295.00 per hour. If an attorney needs to review it, it is $525.00 per hour.
Annette , Rebecca’s administrative assistant and I agreed on a schedule by phone with a paralegal and Rebecca. Then shortly after, I received an email but the schedule to talk to Michelle/paralegal and Rebecca had completely changed without our prior agreement .She agreed to revert Michelle’s back to the original but was quite adamant not changing Rebecca’s schedule as Rebecca’s schedule was quite full but her schedule wasn’t convenient for me. Nevertheless I consented because I liked to get it moving .
After talking Michelle I wasn’t happy about it . Michelle and I spent 15 minutes , verifying the account numbers of each of my asset account. I felt what she did as a paralegal wasn’t warranted as it was quite clerical and didn’t require a paralegal to ask me if my account numbers as stated were corrected. That phone call and reviewing the existing estate plan costed $206.50 ( 0.7 hours or 42 minutes . My phone record indicates 15 minutes so she used 27 minutes to review my old trust ).
Rebecca reviewed my trust and wrote the following “ Your trust is only 16 pages long and is missing critical sections so unfortunately, we cannot amend it and need to restate it. The most cost efficient option moving forward will be our Comprehensive Estate Planning where you will get all new documents - $5900 “ , to which I replied what “ My trust is a folder that is 3 inches thick. I don’t know what you meant by only 16 pages long. As for $5900.00. According to Google A detail estate planning costs $900 to $5950. Mine is simple. … I have no houses, no exotic cars, no sail boats, nothing physical that I want to give away. I don’t know why it will cost me $5900.00. “. Rebecca didn’t respond to my question . She just replied I need to redo my 5 health directive.
I called 2 attorneys from a list suggested by Fidelity. One quoted $3500 to $5000.00 and another quoted $4000 to $6000 . Both said the price depends on complexity. If I have multiple properties, own business, limited partnership etc, then it will be at the higher end of the range. She said in my case, it would be more toward the lower end of the range or around $3000 , less than half of what G & L wanted .
At that point, I felt that Rebecca’s price is way of line . I got the impression that $1050 is a done deal, a bit more or a bit less. I agreed to move forward after the initial 30 minutes free consultation. Her suggestion of “Comprehensive Estate Planning “ wasn’t warranted because mine is simple. I called Rebecca I am cancelling the next appointment, reminding myself that her rate of $525.00 per hour . I told her I will pick up my trust folder. When I showed up her staff returned my folder , plus a check for $656.50. I paid $1050.00 so her company spent $393.50. The invoice itemized each email and time spent reviewing the old trust. I counted 9 email responses costing $187.00 or $21.00 per email response on the average . So after spending $393.50, I accomplished absolutely nothing.
By chance I found a company called The Document People near Topanga Canyon and Ventura Blvd on Google. I called them. Andrea answered. I also watched their video in preparation for that. The quote was $799 for single. $899 for couple. All I have to do is to setup an appointment, come in and fill out some forms ( to start from scratch ), return to sign some forms . Regardless of complexity, it takes about 1 week. Appointments were readily available. Email and phone responses incur no charges ( as opposed to to G & L where I can be charged for that )
I just got my trust updated for $399.00 last Tuesday. I lost $393.50 . but I saved $5500.00

I hired Todd Melnik for a case where he represented me and referred me to his vendor. I filed bankruptcy and added his vendor to the list because I had no ability to pay at the time. Todd called me yelling at me about the debt and the bankruptcy. He asking me why did you file bankruptcy and add his vendor to the list. I told him I had to file bankruptcy. Later he called me to his house to help him with something and that's when his Dog attacked me on his command.
His dog bit me twice at his house in Woodland Hills and he acted like it didn't happen. His two daughters were sitting on the couch and watched the whole thing happen. His two daughters were laughing when it happened. When I was on the ground in pain, he asked, wasn't it your birthday yesterday? And I said yes and he said Happy Birthday. In court they awarded me $50,000 pain and suffering but nothing for my medical. My medical bills were over $50,000. I ended up with nothing but pain. He's a true gangster.

I was referred to this law group by another firm who thought their expertise would fit my cases. Upon looking at their website I found the areas of law that they allegedly represent people pretty much were spot on. I left information and an intake call was provided. It was on a friday and the lady said I had 15 minutes. I felt rushed. I told her I had a powerpoint presentation on my case. Which they didn’t ask about further. She ended the conversation with you’ll receive an email in 2-3 days seemed like a no already which it was, they gave me the standard don’t stop searching for a lawyer, and time limitations on filing cases. Their website says the following :
“When we get a call from a prospective client, our first consideration is, “How can we help this person?” By being in practice for over 40 years, we have developed a strong network of attorneys- many of whom started their careers with our firm. We can reach out to provide the client with an attorney who can best meet their needs. This ensures you will not be turned away without resources.”
In my situation they don’t practice what they preach.

Avoid at all costs. I had the misfortune of using an attorney from this firm. They over charge, and then proceeded to do the bare minimum. In court they are too passive letting the other side have their way resulting in my child suffering as a result.
Do not let your family suffer.
Update: my attorney from this firm contacted me about my review. They stated that their poor work was intended to save me money. I never asked for that.

I would not recommend Andrew Wyatt. Do not hire this man. Andrew Wyatt is a con man and disgrace to the legal profession. The only time he was nice when he wanted me to pay him the huge retainer amount of $8000, he demanded. He made promises that he would work hard on my case, and he is accepting my case because it's a strong case. Once I paid the retainer, he showed me his true colors. He made no efforts to work on my case except doing copy paste of the claims. Andrew misrepresented me in the court filings and even supported the opposing party to file sanctions against me based on misinformation his was spreading. Each time I asked Andrew about my case update he would either ignore and/or use unprofessional and disrespectful language to insult me. Andrew is just a petty thief who stole my hard-earned money with no intention of working on my case. Andrew even took bribe from the opposing party/double-dipping to not work on my case and withhold case information from me. This man just steals retainers from his clients and runs. Unfortunately, I didn't see other negative reviews before hiring this man. All the good reviews you see are fake reviews from Andrew's equity partners and friends.

Avoid at all costs. I had the misfortune of using an attorney from this firm. They over charge, and then proceeded to do the bare minimum. In court they are too passive letting the other side have their way resulting in my child suffering as a result.
Do not let your family suffer.
Update: my attorney from this firm contacted me about my review. They stated that their poor work was intended to save me money. I never asked for that.

This lawyer was hired and paid by reviewer to do a Will and Trust, I was convinced to have a Trust written, which I did, the attorney says to me that I bragged about I have this and I have that, but yet she was writing a Trust, so I had to tell her what I had to protect, the attorney appears to make everything personal, the attorney made a huge error on my Will with the pain section, which honestly I thought was intentional at the time, and had my state of residence wrong on first draft, much was left out of the Trust and a few of my Banks did not accept it, she had not response to that, this attorney has more then once called and yelled on the phone
