she was court appointed for my fathers estate and literally took a 2M estate down to nuts and bolts. when she realized what poor condition she had gotten the estate in she bailed and the incompetent judge let her. she did such a poor job she didn't even argue when I asked the judge to stop payment on her fees.

I retained Sharon Gardner to represent me in a trust probate matter here in Houston with respect to obtaining a distribution. I was very unhappy with her services and frankly believe that she violated ethics and the attorney-client priviledge in my case. I found Sharon Gardner to NOT to be trustworthy.

Sharon Gardner stopped an unneeded guardianship on my uncle and prosecution on me due to untruths that went on for 1.5 years. Sharon turned this nightmare in the courts, which included 4 other lawyers, all seeking huge fees, right side up, in 2.2 months. Sharon held everyone's feet to the fire, and had to do the job by herself. Her integrity is impeccable. Shockingly, the system was upside down for us, until Sharon Gardner arrived, and thank goodness she left no stone unturned. The great lawyers ARE still around. She is worth her fees!

Barbara Schnack was our attorney for our child custody case. She's hard working, honest, has good communication skills, good listing skills, a good understanding of family law, and is well respected by attorney's and judges. When someone asked me for a referral, I always suggested Mrs. Schnack first.

Felt as though there was no preparation or interest in our case, even though it was a long process. Wonder if at $350 an hour, there was an attorney who may have appeared to be more interested in our well being and the case outcome. Did not provide receipts or accounting of time and services. A bit disappointed.

I am surprised by the review noted above. My experience with Mr. Nelson was completely the opposite. I hired Mr. Nelson for an employment plaintiff matter. I don't think he is qualified for this when facing an opposing party that poses any level of sophistication and/or any vigor. In a mediation, the counter-party came up with a material point that through us both for a curveball. This mediation took place in August. I asked Mr. Nelson multiple times to research this legal matter and though he said he would, he never did. Finally after dismissing Mr. Nelson in late November I did my own research and discovered that the counter argument that the other side used was NOT material (I spoke with other attorneys to determine this as well). If Mr. Nelson would have researched this matter, it would have shifted the case and put us in a more aggressive stance. Yet we were put in a defensive stance. Paying $375/hr for an attorney who performs in this manner is not appropriate in my opinion. As per our contract, Mr. Nelson was supposed to provide me monthly invoices. He did no such thing and every time I asked for them, he said he would get to it. When I repeatedly expressed my concern for the impending costs of Mr. Nelson's legal services, he said "dont worry about it." Yet, after I terminated Mr. Nelson he gave me a bill for $11K. In regards to professionalism, I would not consider meeting a client at his office in shorts and a Hawaiian shirt to be professional. I also think representing me during a deposition and doing a crossword puzzle in front of opposing counsel is not professional behavior either. I am not trying to fudge Mr. Nelson's name as I am sure he has done good work in the past, but based on my experience I would not recommend Mr. Nelson especially for the amount that he charges.

This attorney is the most professional individual I have ever done business with. He's defended me in a frivolous HOA lawsuit alleging "defamation of character of a board member". (the board uses HOA funds to sue me). He is so professional that I went back to him because he previously worked on a past employment dispute. He is calm, even tempered, and kind inside the courtroom and out. Moreover, he sticks to truth, facts and the law.

I retained Attorney Justin L Writt to represent us with a simple name change. After three misguided directives from Atty. Writt I was finally advised of a court date of 1/25/13 at the 247th District Court @ 9am. Atty. Writt was 40 minutes late. Upon entering the court room, he went directly to the clerk's desk and held a five minute conversation. He approached me and motioned for me to step out of courtroom. He proceeded to explain that the clerk failed to add my case to the docket. I questioned how he was notified about the date and he said he received a phone call. Having knowledge of court proceedings, just receiving a call was not customary. I called my Estate Planning Attorney who advised me to request a copy of the Notice of Publication, required to be filed as public notice and proof of submission to the court. His first response was to inquire what that was. He then stated it was in at his office and we could get a copy of the entire file. I arrived at his office prior to him and was greeted with profanity and abusive language by Atty. R L Manor who was speaking to someone on the phone. When he noticed I was in the office, he asked "How you doin' ?" To which I replied "offended" Atty. Manor proceeded to explain that someone was talking bad about his wife and he didn't take that. He then stated "this is my house and my receptionist should have informed him they had company". I was seated in his front office. As I continued to wait for Atty. Writt to supply the proof if filing, I could hear a discussion going on between both attorneys regarding my request for the Proof of Publication document. Finally after having waited nearly an hour, the receptionist handed me an envelope with documents dated prior to October 2012. Atty. Writt refused to come discuss why there was no document confirming his submission of the Notice of Publication. Instead, I heard Atty. Manor state "I'll tell her'" in a manner that suggested Atty. Writt was avoiding me. At which point Atty. Manor approached me stating that I would need to make an appointment for the following week to discuss the missing document. His tone was aggressive and his body language threatening. When asked why Atty. Writt would not come speak with me, Atty. Manor became belligerent and said "I told you, make an appointment!" and he proceeded to show me the door. When I advised Atty. Manor that I would be contacting another attorney and the Bar Association, he challenged me by stating "go ahead, if you really have one." We retained Atty. Writt for a simple name change preceding. It was emotionally devastating to have been failed by him as a result of his incompetence. But to have been verbally assaulted by his partner while Atty. Writt was able to hear the entire exchange was disheartening. We later confirmed with the court clerk that there was never an actual court date assigned because of his failure to remit the required documents. What both of these attorneys are ignorant to is the fact that I really do have outside legal representation, who is very experienced with filings with the Attorney General's office, the BBB and the Bar Association.

Don't deal with this firm. I was impressed with the way they held my hand and helped me get my case approved 15 years ago. I made a mistake by giving them the job of applying H1B for my employee. I had practically everything. The staff is very rude. Jerry Zhang is not even in USA. We had to call several times to get the job done. He should be paying money to us. They just send you a DIY template and we have to work on it. They don't offer any help. They are in the business of just charging money. Don't waste your time by dealing with them. I am a successful businessman take my advise. I've seen how success has hit this company. They don't care for customers any more like they used to. They offer "0" support and no customer service plus they are all very rude. The attorney I was dealing with yelled at me several times. Their team is in China, they just outsource everything.

They will twist the story around and let you do a very very long maximum sentence in prison over a very very very serious accusation that was so dam false to begin with. Even a dummy could read the fine print and have common sense. Beware! Just keep it moving and hire yourself a real good professional. But…“Instead they should be called the criminals and of the state for allowing such behavior of a dirty trial from the officers, detectives, to the jury and then to the judge….not to mention the cross examiners and cross examination they did was very questionable how can you allow such verdict without sufficient evidence let alone a minor was interviewed without permission of a parent. They will violate your constitutional rights from left to right but they will fight to keep themselves standing innocent at the cost of what?? An innocent man’s life. I’m sure this isn’t the first time they do something this dirty but I do believe more proper investigation shall be given in any case given that will jeopardize someone’s impeccable life…to be exact this all happened in the city of Montgomery County Texas to be Exact….

I was 20 (now 27) when I mustered up the courage to talk to this woman. My mom and dad were splitting up, and I truly didn’t want to take sides because I felt like I’d be betraying one over the other, but in my heart I knew my mom was the one who deserved custody over my siblings. Because while my father was the one who financially supported us, my MOTHER was the one who RAISED us and had done EVERYTHING for us. Cooking, cleaning, taking us to school, showing up at school events, taking us to do our sports. Anything you can think, she did. So when I finally built up the courage to talk to this woman, and told her in blatant terms that mom was the one who deserved custody. She did…. nothing. She did not bring up anything that I had said in court. It’s 9 years counting and I’ve basically had to do everything my mom has done. I’ve cooked and cleaned for my sister, taken her to school, I’ve essentially have become her parent. All because Lorraine decided my opinion as the oldest child didn’t matter. I would not recommend this attorney at all.

Photos of bruises on the child by the father. complaints by psychologist to CPS. The father was doing medicaid fraud. With 5 criminal felonies and DWI. She said it was better than the girl lived with the father because the mother was giving the wrong message to the girl, for claiming the teacher for some discipline applied by the teacher .. She guaranteed me she could get me a TRO and Injunction made me pay her $500.00 in cash. In less than an hour of taking my money, the Judge denied request for TRO. When I asked for my money back she said NO. I asked if I could at least get half of it back and she said NO! The disturbing part is she did absolutely NOTHING for the money. She didn't type up the request for TRO & Injunction. She didn't file it. And knowing the Judge would require the opposing side be contacted, she didn't even bother to do that. I sat in the hall and contacted them myself. When in front of the Judge, she pretty much didn't open her mouth nor did she fight for the TRO. This woman is the most unprofessional person I have EVER WORKED WITH. Also, she works with a known felon who gets the work for her.

I wish I'd never spoken to Mr. Barrett. He was quite personable on the phone. We had some nice, very brief chats, but when he wants to disappear, he WILL disappear. I went ~42 days with nothing which would be absolutely fine but you have to manage expectations, and not say 4 days then go 42. Bizarre. Oh and he never withdrew from my case. The case continued and the entire process was a nightmare. I’m still baffled.

Retained Kenneth Royce Barrett after the initial consultation to ensure it was understood in that the rodent infestation I was dealing with inside apartment dwelling was clearly conveyed to property management; however, property management ignored the problem and failed to provide exterminating services despite monthly reminders for six months after infestation compounded exponentially. Served with eviction notice, sought an attorney and foolishly relied on the Peer Review provided to this attorney during selection process. Suddenly, Barrett increased retainer from $450/2 hours to $1,000/4 hours. After retainer was remitted, he immediately came back to me concerned in that level of case perceived difficulty had increased though no changes resulted to warrant any concerns for any increases in case perceived difficulties. This implied Barrett was forewarning of the potential need for additional funding. I decided to instead to negotiate an Exit Strategy with property management myself and did given I’d already relinquished $1.0K to Barrett for essentially no reason. Informed Barrett who then advised to not let property know of move out intentions in writing. Then he became unreachable. Three weeks later I requested my residual retainer be refunded on two different days before he responded with having had Covid and was behind on record keeping tasks but would resolve following week. This did NOT happen. Four months later I contact him again to learn he’s suffered another bout with Covid and remains behind on work tasks. He then tells me he advised me to remain in my previous apartment. Another lie. So I investigate to learn he has a reputation for being dishonest. Another month passes, seven months after initial retainer paid, request formal contact information for litigation purposes and receive nothing. As 100% Disabled American Veteran unable to work, trusting this person created a financial hardship I continue to struggle with present day given the unexpected relocation expenses and non-refunded retainer in part or in whole.

Her lack of experience cost me thousands, 16 wasted months and I ultimately found another attorney to finish my case. An amicable divorce turned into a battle for assets, child custody dispute and cost over $100K when it was all said and done. Stay away if you are wanting a divorce that is settled in a timely fashion (and they can be finished timely). The attorney I found to finish my divorce cost $5K and finished it in 3 months. What we paid in attorney fees could have financed my kids college....that is a shame.

I hired this lawyer for my divorce and she did a half job! She did not divorce me on my first attempt and she failed to inform me of this! Then she blamed the other lawyer for the screw up! She then attempted numerous times to divorce me and failed at it! She was not filing the correct paper work! When we finally divorced because my exes lawyer put in a new application she allowed the other lawyer to type the final decree and asked me to sign by saying this was already discussed with me! 2 1/2 years later I’m still having issues thanks to her poor job she did and to top It off the other lawyer altered the final decree to her wordings and Attorney Fullerton failed to catch this because she doesn’t know law! Even with her representation in court she is very timid and won’t stand up for her clients! She does not have that “presence” a lawyer should have! I regret going to her and I do not recommend her for any case! Her assistant Dara is nice but she also doesn’t do her job!

She never picked up the phone to call me. I had to call her after several days had passed because my court date was coming up and I hadn't heard from her. My attorney tried several times to get in touch with her unsuccessfully. When it was time for my home visit, she let me speak for about two minutes as she spent her time interrupting me to talk to my two toddlers who were not part of the custody case. She said the reason she went to my home was so the judge wouldn't say she didn't even do anything. She didn't talk to me to get my side of the story. She took what my daughters and their father told her to be the gospel truth without letting me speak. When our court date came, again all she wanted was her money. She said she would not sign off on any papers until she got her money from me. She didn't make my ex pay her anything. She completely made up her mind that my girls were better off with their dad based off the information my daughters and their dad gave her. She did not care to invest any time in the case because she had not received any payment and those were her words. We hadn't paid her because we couldn't even get a hold of her. She seemed to not care about anything but collecting her check which she didn't earn, except for showing up. I do not recommend Ms. Soliz if you want someone who will investigate both sides in order to place the child in the home and parent that will be in the best interest of the child.

What a Mediation Lawyer Can Do for You

A mediation lawyer specializes in resolving disputes outside of the courtroom through a process called mediation. Mediation involves a neutral third-party mediator who helps the disputing parties reach a mutually acceptable agreement. Mediation lawyers can represent clients in various matters, including divorce, business disputes, employment conflicts, contract issues, personal injury claims, and more.

Unlike litigation, mediation is a less adversarial and more cost-effective way to settle disputes, often leading to faster resolutions and preserving relationships between the parties involved.

When Should I Hire a Mediation Lawyer?

Consider hiring a mediation lawyer when you’re involved in a dispute and want to avoid the time, expense, and stress of going to court. Common reasons to hire a mediation lawyer include:

  • Divorce or child custody disputes: A mediation lawyer can help you reach a fair settlement on issues like property division, alimony, and parenting arrangements without going to court.
  • Business or contract disputes: For disagreements such as contract disputes, partnership conflicts, or intellectual property issues, a mediation lawyer can assist in resolving the matter through negotiation.
  • Employment disputes: Issues like wrongful termination, discrimination, or wage disputes can be addressed through mediation to find common ground and avoid lawsuits.
  • Personal injury cases: Mediation can help both parties agree on compensation in cases like car accidents or slip-and-fall claims without a prolonged court battle.
  • Property disputes: Disputes over property ownership, landlord-tenant issues, or boundary disagreements can be settled more amicably through mediation.
  • Family or inheritance disputes: Mediation can help resolve conflicts over wills or trusts without further dividing the family.

What Does a Mediation Lawyer Do?

A mediation lawyer provides a range of services to help clients resolve disputes through negotiation and mutual agreement. Their responsibilities often include:

  • Representing your interests: Acting as your advocate during mediation to ensure your rights are protected and you understand your legal options.
  • Preparing for mediation: Reviewing the facts of the case, gathering necessary documents, and advising you on potential resolutions.
  • Facilitating communication: Helping to facilitate open and constructive dialogue between parties to clarify points of contention.
  • Negotiating settlements: Assisting in negotiating fair and balanced settlement terms that are in your best interest.
  • Drafting mediation agreements: Preparing the official mediation agreement that outlines the terms of the settlement, which is often legally binding.
  • Avoiding litigation: Aiming to reach a settlement that eliminates the need for a court trial, saving time and resources for both parties.
  • Handling complex legal issues: Explaining the legal implications of various settlement terms in cases with complicated legal matters.

How Are Mediation Lawyers Paid?

Mediation lawyers typically charge for their services based on the complexity of the case and the time involved. Common payment methods include:

  • Hourly rate: Charging an hourly fee ranging from $150 to $500 or more, depending on experience and case complexity.
  • Flat fee: For simpler mediations, some lawyers may offer a flat fee covering all legal work involved in the process.
  • Retainer: In ongoing or complex cases, a retainer may be required as an upfront payment billed against as work progresses.

Discuss fees and payment structures with your lawyer during the initial consultation to understand the cost of mediation services.

How Much Does a Mediation Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a mediation lawyer depends on several factors, including the case's complexity, the lawyer’s experience, and the time required to resolve the dispute. General cost estimates include:

  • Hourly rates: Typically between $150 and $500 per hour.
  • Flat fees: For simple mediations, fees may range from $1,000 to $5,000.
  • Total mediation costs: Can vary widely, from $2,000 to $10,000 for straightforward cases, up to $10,000 to $50,000 or more for complex disputes.

Always request a detailed cost estimate during your consultation to understand total expenses.

Top Questions to Ask a Mediation Lawyer

Before hiring a mediation lawyer, consider asking the following questions:

  1. What experience do you have with mediation cases like mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in handling similar disputes.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Clarify the fee structure and request an estimate based on your specific case.
  3. What is the likelihood of resolving my case through mediation?
Seek an honest assessment of whether mediation is suitable for your situation.
  4. How long will the mediation process take?
Inquire about the expected timeline and number of sessions required.
  5. Will you personally handle my case?
Confirm who will manage your mediation and represent your interests.
  6. Can we pursue alternative dispute resolution (ADR) if necessary?
Ask about other forms of ADR, such as arbitration, if mediation doesn't resolve the conflict.

How to Check the Credibility of a Mediation Lawyer

To ensure you're hiring a reputable mediation lawyer, take the following steps:

  • Verify their bar status: Confirm with your state bar association that the lawyer is licensed and has no disciplinary history.
  • Look for mediation experience: Review their website or professional profile for specialization in mediation and successful case histories.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Check platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google for client feedback.
  • Ask for references: Request references from past clients familiar with their mediation skills.
  • Check for certifications: Look for certifications from organizations like the American Arbitration Association (AAA) or the Association for Conflict Resolution (ACR).

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To maximize the effectiveness of your initial meeting, bring the following:

  • Relevant documents: Any materials related to the dispute, such as contracts, emails, financial records, or court filings.
  • List of key issues: A detailed list of the main points of contention that need resolution.
  • Timeline of events: A chronological account of events leading up to the dispute, including prior resolution attempts.
  • Goals for the mediation: Be prepared to discuss your desired outcomes and areas where you're willing to compromise.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Any queries about the mediation process, fees, or their approach to dispute resolution.

Being well-prepared will help the lawyer assess your case effectively and provide the best possible advice for resolving your dispute through mediation.
