Kellen Potts helped guide me through the most difficult stretch of my life during my recent divorce. In my interactions with him, he was knowledgeable, realistic (didn’t promise anything ridiculously optimistic), easy to contact, and provided me with the information I needed to get the best overall outcome. Highly recommended if you’re in the unfortunate position to need his services.

Chrissy was my attorney throughout the divorce/mediation process and made the entire experience a very positive, stress free and productive one. Chrissy was extremely patient, goal oriented and assertive in making sure all my legal needs were met. Chrissy was consistently available to me throughout the entire process and I always felt like she was on top of my case. I would highly recommend Chrissy for any Legal related issues and couldn’t be happier with the outcome.

Curtis has proven himself time and time again to be a great attorney. I have known him for quite a while and have heard great things. Not only that, but my family and I have had the fortune to retain his services personally. Curtis showed genuine concern for our issue and provided options that were well thought out. He not only provided the options, but helped to arrive at an educated decision that proved to be beneficial to the outcome of my family's issue. It became clear early in the process that Curtis knows his profession and has the level of commitment that we needed to address our concerns and we worked towards an amicable resolution. We made the right choice when we retained his services. Curtis is the attorney whom I will refer to my friends and family.

If you need a lawyer who will advocate for you and provide you with assurance throughout the entire process, search no further. Richard has been a blessing; after sharing my struggles during my divorce and my poor experience with my previous attorney, he stepped in to assist. He facilitated a fair mediation between my spouse and me today. Having someone you can trust during such a challenging and painful time, like a divorce, is crucial. I wholeheartedly recommend Richard; he will be fair in his dealings with you.

I'd give zero if I could. If you're a woman trying to get out of an abusive marriage, go to someone else. My mother, siblings and I were viciously abused by my father in every way imaginable except physical and had evidence to support this. Richard was hoping for an open shut, easy money case so he had the audacity to waste my mother's time and tell her she had no case and my dad would get everything in the divorce. Keep looking.

My divorce attorney helped save my marriage, when did you ever hear such a thing, but for me this is exactly what happened. I came to Elizabeth during a time a great distress, and prior to speaking with her, I felt as though everything was spinning out of control. I was overwhelmed by all of the complexities that suddenly emerge when one contemplates divorce. Elizabeth's counsel provided me with the legal roadmap and that alone freed up my mind space to focus on other things. All I could focus on prior to meeting with Elizabeth was the impending divorce I was considering, but with my mind at ease about the legal journey, I was able to focus on my relationship with clarity. I recommend Elizabeth without reservation.

Absolutely outstanding! My experience with Megan House Wilson was nothing short of exceptional. From the very beginning, she demonstrated the utmost respect, ensuring I felt heard and valued every step of the way. Her tenacity in securing what I rightfully deserved was truly impressive; she fought for me with unwavering determination and expertise. Every time I had a question or concern, she was incredibly responsive, providing clear and timely answers that eased my worries. What truly sets her apart is her efficiency and skill—she accomplished in a few short months what my previous lawyer couldn't achieve in nearly five years. She even had to fix numerous mistakes made by my former lawyer, yet she still delivered outstanding results. Her professionalism, dedication, and competence exceeded all my expectations. My family and I are incredibly grateful for her hard work and support. I cannot recommend her highly enough for anyone seeking a compassionate, diligent, and highly effective lawyer. Thank you for turning a challenging situation into a victorious outcome!

Sarah was a tremendous person to hire as an attorney to help guide me through the dissolution of a near 15 year marriage with multiple children. She was honest, factual, attentive, and respectful of what was important to me. Most importantly, she has a keen ability to understand people in a short period of time. She brought up many things during the creation of the MDA that i had not thought about previously that remain helpful today in navigating life post-divorce. From a pure business perspective, her practice operates very efficiently and she is very organized. All expectations regarding fees, payments, and the entire process are as clear up front as they can be. I would highly recommend Sarah to anyone seeking a family law attorney. Katie and her team were quick, efficient, and an absolute pleasure to work with on our second-parent adoption paperwork. As an LGBTQ+ family, we deeply appreciated her sensitivity, respect, and understanding of our unique situation. Her extensive knowledge of local judges and legal processes made a significant difference in moving our case forward smoothly. A fun side note: a coworker mentioned that her ex-husband had hired Katie and described her as a ‘bulldog’ in court. She told me I had an excellent attorney—which only reaffirmed our own great experience!

DO NOT HIRE! YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR! I read reviews about this attorney that were alarming, however, she came recommended by the Domestic Violence organization, so my family decided to give her a shot. We hired her in 2018 and were happy that of all the other attorney's we looked at, she seemed tohave one of the lowest retainers. That was our first mistake. One of the reviews said that she didn't file the correct paperwork, or that she missed deadlines. Both of which happened in my families case. Another said that she lost every motion even when the other parties council was inept. She did in fact lose every motion and got steamrolled by opposing council. The other side got everything they wanted while we got nothing. For example, she never introduced the police report that was filed that would have supported the domestic abuse claim. They initially had 2 weekends a month, and that was changed do 10 days a month, plus many holidays. For someone who has never been alone with his child for an extended period of time in her whole life. For someone who was abusive to both the mother and the child. The father went from having approximately 48 days a year to having 145 days a year! She is lazy and overwhelmed and our end result was worse than what we could have ever anticipated. She comes across as caring, but is unprofessional and highly disorganized. She does not return calls or emails in a timely manner. Her billing is unclear. Due to her incompetency, my family has paid tens of thousands of dollars to undue the damage she caused. We are now severely in debt and it is all because she damaged our case from the very beginning. Please stay away. There are many other attorneys in Rutherford County that are better. I would 100% recommend W. Scott Kimberly located at: 111 N Maple St, Murfreesboro, TN 37130, phone number: (615) 890-1099 Our end result isn't perfect, but it was the best possible outcome given the damage that Rebecca caused. It is now 3 years later and we finally have some semblance of closure. Not perfect, but livable.

Ms Lashbrook was highly recommended to our family by a trusted friend when my daughter passed away - a single mom leaving behind a minor child with no will in place to determine who would have custody. It was a very scary situation. Ms Lashbrook helped us secure custody with my other daughter & work with DCS to get all the legalities taken care of. She was extremely caring, sympathetic and went out of her way to assure us we did not have to concern ourselves with this added legal burden as we were grieving over such an unexpected loss & all the other issues that came with it. She was very knowledgeable of the law and made the entire process go smoothly. Both she & her assistant, Julie were extremely caring, thoughtful & concerned for our family. We were blessed beyond words by their caring & personal approach in this situation. I consulted Ms Lashbrook again recently regarding another matter & found my interaction with her & her staff just as caring & helpful. They actually listen to your concerns & take that extra time to do that without a focus of adding up additional fees for each minute spent. They also welcome your questions and are patient in giving answers that you can understand and this helps you (the client) make wise decisions & feel confident you were informed of all the legal ramifications of those decisions. I highly recommend Ms Lashbrook and her office to anyone who needs help with legal issues involving minor children as well as wills & estate planning. What a blessing she has been to us!

I needed help with an issue with my employer, and while he told me that I didn't have a legal case I still hired him to him help me work with in the system. He didn't listen to me at all, he didn't do what I asked and we accomplished absolutely nothing and I spent a $1,000, erudition i didn't haveand he didn't help me one little bit, absolutely nothing, no help what so ever. He could't get pass the fact that i didn't have a legal leg to stand on and just kept repeating that while i tried to explain to him how their system worked and what i needed him to do. He host continued to argued that point with me charging me by the hour. He couldn't listen to me to help me navigate within their system to write a responses and the information that I needed to help me hopefully hold on to my job. Total rip off

I reached out to Mr. Venick for his counsel on a separation agreement and for advice regarding discriminatory treatment I had experienced from my direct manager. Mr. Venick was out of town when I initially reached out and wouldn't be available until at least a week from my initial contact. As I was under a time constraint I was anxious to meet with him. I shared that with his staff who apparently made sure Mr. Venick was aware of this. Mr. Venick was very responsive upon his return and scheduled a meeting with me on his 2nd day back in the office. During this 1st meeting, Mr. Venick took the time to ask me a lot of specific but thoughtful questions to help us move forward. Throughout the process, he was very responsive as well as proc-active in reaching out to me to make sure I didn't miss any deadlines. I would recommend(and already have) Mr Venick to anyone who needs assistance with employment/employer issues.

Mr. Venick's professional assistance and advice during the worst six months of my lengthy career was outstanding. He was like the extended family member who helped me work through the emotional anger of my former workplace situation when newer, younger, and less experienced people became my direct supervisors. Once I was able to focus on the facts and document them as Mr. Venick recommended, I was able to make the appropriate decisions for me and my family. We did not go to the litigation phase, but I did receive what we both felt was a fair settlement offer. I highly recommend him and his firm.

Whitney was my attorney for my divorce this past year. I was totally lost and had no idea what to do. She immediately gave me the sense that I could rely on her, and let some of my worries go. It's hard to try to focus on details in such an emotional situation, I needed someone else I could depend on who knew what needed to be done. Whitney was caring and compassionate, but also firm, competent and efficient. Divorce is awful, but Whitney got me through it and helped me feel in control. I would not hesitate to recommend her to others in the same boat.

She was a great attorney, she helped me get my daughter back. My original attorney was kicked off my case and she was court appointed. the judge ordered the paid attorney to give me $2500 of my $4500 back. I went to the court house and the lady at the court house gave me a copy of the paper work saying the old attorney already paid my attorney (Autumn Chastain) my money back and I had to take that to her office to request my money. She said she never recieved my money from William Winchester. I went back to the Court house and they said it showed right there in the paperwork that he indeed paid my money back and autumn has it! I went back to her office several times and the desk lady said she wasn't there every time. No returned phone calls. The last time i went up there I left a copy with the secretary that she said she would give to autumn. I never heard anything back. I was never paid my court ordered money. I still have my copy and it still makes me angry every time I think about it! Im grateful for her helping me get my daughter back. She even gave her stuff for Christmas the first year I had her back, but it seems like I paid for it really. I tried many times at 2 different offices she moved to, nothing!

Autumn represented me in the wrongful death of my daughter. It was a difficult case but Autumn was there for me through every stage of the case. Our case dealt with an inept but combative opposing attorney, Autumn fought aggressively on my behalf and won practically every battle that had to be fought. I am a law student nearing graduation and I clinic with juvenile offenders. Working in the children's defense field, I again worked with Autumn and can tell you she was a fierce advocate and strong defender for these children. I am legally educated, I understand the nuances that come with representation of various different cases and my observations from my own case, from others I observed, and my expectations of what an attorney should be; Autumn Chastain is a Superior Attorney. If I had to face any legal battle, to be in a courtroom foxhole, there is no one else that I would want fight by my side.

Honestly, not a bad guy did take our money and run with it. Should have just got a public defender if you’re not looking to go to trial. Needed him mainly for the footage of my finances field sobriety and we didn’t even get to watch that footage till after he was convicted. I expected a little more, but that’s life you live and you learn.

Over $6k in retainer for this guy to sit on his hands for 4 years. If you are a family in need of their help, find representation elsewhere. Luckily for me, I'm blessed, and have found representation that I can afford to go after this firm for negligence. Stay tuned as this will all be public record. There is zero slander here as everything has been documented for the past 4 years and I am more then willing to go public.

My experience with Bill Pemerton, a family law attorney in Hamilton County, Tennessee, has been profoundly disappointing and distressing. As I navigate through the complexities of family law, the importance of reliable, empathetic legal representation cannot be overstated. This review aims to provide an honest and detailed account of the service I received, or rather, the lack thereof, from Mr. Pemerton, with the hope of informing others and advocating for accountability in legal practice. The journey with Mr. Pemerton's services began with a semblance of professionalism, but it rapidly deteriorated into a scenario marred by negligence and unprofessionalism. A glaring example of this was his audacious misrepresentation of a court date. This misinformation led me to undertake a needless five-hour journey, only to realize that no motion had been filed for my case. Such a grave error not only wasted my time and resources but also amplified the emotional strain I was already enduring. In addition, Mr. Pemerton's approach to my case was marked by a conspicuous lack of accountability. His condescending attitude and attempts to cast doubt on the rationality of my claims were both unprofessional and unbecoming of a lawyer entrusted with such sensitive matters. This lack of empathy was particularly distressing given the gravity of family law cases, where the well-being of children is often at stake. Furthermore, my requests for the transfer of my case documents to my new attorney, were met with what can only be described as a dismissive and nonchalant attitude. This disregard not only reflected a lack of professional courtesy but also a blatant disrespect for my rights and needs as a client. In light of these experiences, I find it necessary to explicitly state that I cannot recommend Bill Pemerton for any matters related to family law in Hamilton County, TN. The cumulative effect of his actions - misinformation, negligence, and a general lack of professionalism - has not only caused me undue stress and inconvenience but has also impeded my pursuit of justice and fairness in a deeply personal and significant legal matter. I hope this review serves as a cautionary tale for others seeking legal representation in family law. It underscores the importance of thorough research and due diligence when selecting an attorney, especially in cases as delicate and impactful as those involving family matters. My experience is a stark reminder of the profound impact a lawyer can have on their clients' lives and the paramount importance of integrity, empathy, and professionalism in the legal profession.

I would put 0, but I could only select 1. I was given their information by my employer for a legal plan that I paid for. On my first call, they said a lawyer would call me soon. I called back after 10 days (I had not received any response) and I was told a lawyer would call me with an hour. I received a call from the assistant 2 hours later stating they were just too busy to help. I guess my little estate planning just isn't enough money for them. Horrible customer service!! I will be asking my company to take them off our approved list.

I hired Tim Ballard for a child custody case during a sensitive period following the loss of our daughter to cancer. While Tim seemed personable, the service and value I received were unsatisfactory. My experience with Mr. Ballard was costly and inefficient compared to previous attorneys. Over $8000 and nearly a year later, the only significant progress was one hour of mediation. The costs seemed excessive: $2000 for mediation prep and almost $100 for a brief email. Additionally, I questioned the 5.5 hours billed (Tim does his own billing and invoicing. One month I received several months billing all of a sudden) for mediation prep half billed on a day when Tim was handling another case. Several months I’m still waiting on discovery questions, child support worksheet, and some bills of my ex spouse to be paid. All of which are “in the works” Communication issues were persistent. I often had to rebrief him on basic case details, yet was billed for these updates. Despite being promised legal aid assistance, this help materialized late, failing to restore my confidence in the firm. The process was drawn out, with mediation dates constantly delayed from May to July to November. I felt my case wasn't advocated for effectively, particularly in dealings with the opposing attorney. Now in the process of switching lawyers, I'm disheartened by the substantial financial and time investment with minimal progress. I'm open to sharing more details with those considering this firm. A major concern was the inefficient communication costing over half the total fees. I preferred meetings over emails for efficiency, but this approach wasn't adopted. There were also missed opportunities, like enrolling my daughter in a new school, and periods where Tim was difficult to contact, though active on social media liking the opposing attorneys instagram posts. In summary, I expected more empathy and proactivity in handling my case. This experience felt like a financial and emotional drain during an already difficult time.

What a Mediation Lawyer Can Do for You

A mediation lawyer specializes in resolving disputes outside of the courtroom through a process called mediation. Mediation involves a neutral third-party mediator who helps the disputing parties reach a mutually acceptable agreement. Mediation lawyers can represent clients in various matters, including divorce, business disputes, employment conflicts, contract issues, personal injury claims, and more.

Unlike litigation, mediation is a less adversarial and more cost-effective way to settle disputes, often leading to faster resolutions and preserving relationships between the parties involved.

When Should I Hire a Mediation Lawyer?

Consider hiring a mediation lawyer when you’re involved in a dispute and want to avoid the time, expense, and stress of going to court. Common reasons to hire a mediation lawyer include:

  • Divorce or child custody disputes: A mediation lawyer can help you reach a fair settlement on issues like property division, alimony, and parenting arrangements without going to court.
  • Business or contract disputes: For disagreements such as contract disputes, partnership conflicts, or intellectual property issues, a mediation lawyer can assist in resolving the matter through negotiation.
  • Employment disputes: Issues like wrongful termination, discrimination, or wage disputes can be addressed through mediation to find common ground and avoid lawsuits.
  • Personal injury cases: Mediation can help both parties agree on compensation in cases like car accidents or slip-and-fall claims without a prolonged court battle.
  • Property disputes: Disputes over property ownership, landlord-tenant issues, or boundary disagreements can be settled more amicably through mediation.
  • Family or inheritance disputes: Mediation can help resolve conflicts over wills or trusts without further dividing the family.

What Does a Mediation Lawyer Do?

A mediation lawyer provides a range of services to help clients resolve disputes through negotiation and mutual agreement. Their responsibilities often include:

  • Representing your interests: Acting as your advocate during mediation to ensure your rights are protected and you understand your legal options.
  • Preparing for mediation: Reviewing the facts of the case, gathering necessary documents, and advising you on potential resolutions.
  • Facilitating communication: Helping to facilitate open and constructive dialogue between parties to clarify points of contention.
  • Negotiating settlements: Assisting in negotiating fair and balanced settlement terms that are in your best interest.
  • Drafting mediation agreements: Preparing the official mediation agreement that outlines the terms of the settlement, which is often legally binding.
  • Avoiding litigation: Aiming to reach a settlement that eliminates the need for a court trial, saving time and resources for both parties.
  • Handling complex legal issues: Explaining the legal implications of various settlement terms in cases with complicated legal matters.

How Are Mediation Lawyers Paid?

Mediation lawyers typically charge for their services based on the complexity of the case and the time involved. Common payment methods include:

  • Hourly rate: Charging an hourly fee ranging from $150 to $500 or more, depending on experience and case complexity.
  • Flat fee: For simpler mediations, some lawyers may offer a flat fee covering all legal work involved in the process.
  • Retainer: In ongoing or complex cases, a retainer may be required as an upfront payment billed against as work progresses.

Discuss fees and payment structures with your lawyer during the initial consultation to understand the cost of mediation services.

How Much Does a Mediation Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a mediation lawyer depends on several factors, including the case's complexity, the lawyer’s experience, and the time required to resolve the dispute. General cost estimates include:

  • Hourly rates: Typically between $150 and $500 per hour.
  • Flat fees: For simple mediations, fees may range from $1,000 to $5,000.
  • Total mediation costs: Can vary widely, from $2,000 to $10,000 for straightforward cases, up to $10,000 to $50,000 or more for complex disputes.

Always request a detailed cost estimate during your consultation to understand total expenses.

Top Questions to Ask a Mediation Lawyer

Before hiring a mediation lawyer, consider asking the following questions:

  1. What experience do you have with mediation cases like mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in handling similar disputes.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Clarify the fee structure and request an estimate based on your specific case.
  3. What is the likelihood of resolving my case through mediation?
Seek an honest assessment of whether mediation is suitable for your situation.
  4. How long will the mediation process take?
Inquire about the expected timeline and number of sessions required.
  5. Will you personally handle my case?
Confirm who will manage your mediation and represent your interests.
  6. Can we pursue alternative dispute resolution (ADR) if necessary?
Ask about other forms of ADR, such as arbitration, if mediation doesn't resolve the conflict.

How to Check the Credibility of a Mediation Lawyer

To ensure you're hiring a reputable mediation lawyer, take the following steps:

  • Verify their bar status: Confirm with your state bar association that the lawyer is licensed and has no disciplinary history.
  • Look for mediation experience: Review their website or professional profile for specialization in mediation and successful case histories.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Check platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google for client feedback.
  • Ask for references: Request references from past clients familiar with their mediation skills.
  • Check for certifications: Look for certifications from organizations like the American Arbitration Association (AAA) or the Association for Conflict Resolution (ACR).

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To maximize the effectiveness of your initial meeting, bring the following:

  • Relevant documents: Any materials related to the dispute, such as contracts, emails, financial records, or court filings.
  • List of key issues: A detailed list of the main points of contention that need resolution.
  • Timeline of events: A chronological account of events leading up to the dispute, including prior resolution attempts.
  • Goals for the mediation: Be prepared to discuss your desired outcomes and areas where you're willing to compromise.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Any queries about the mediation process, fees, or their approach to dispute resolution.

Being well-prepared will help the lawyer assess your case effectively and provide the best possible advice for resolving your dispute through mediation.
