John Peck is an outstanding attorney. After my previous personal injury lawyer tried to lowball my car accident settlement, I got referred to John by my co-worker. I had spoken to a few other attorneys before speaking with John in the process of switching my attorney and there were hesitation and many questions. John without any hesitation stepped in and significantly increased the settlement offer within a week of taking my case. He was highly responsive, and transparent, and kept me informed every step of the way. I’m incredibly grateful for his help and will recommend him to anyone seeking a dedicated personal injury lawyer who truly fights for their clients. Choose John and his team—they go above and beyond to ensure you get the settlement you deserve.

Hi I would first say to Stacey thank you for making me always feel comfortable and being so patient with me throughout a very tough and stressful time especially when there was very tough things to talk about. And secondly Neil, thank you for always being professional and even though your name was on the wall you made me feel that you’re easy to talk with. You guys changed my life. And I know I couldn’t have done it without Sugarman

Before hiring Sugarman, we did not read any of the stellar reviews offered by other satisfied clients. Nor did we 'shop around'. Maryanne Leblanc was a personal reference from another lawyer. Her service on our behalf was beyond reproach, expectation or, even, imagination. We were treated more than fairly (as if we had been generational family friends). We are grateful for her personal attention to our case. Her sage counsel and compassion were truly remarkable and as deeply appreciated as unexpected. Maryanne went a long way in restoring our faith in the 'community of confrontation'.

I 100% agree with Mel. I gave my banking account number and was told they'd be a deduction on the 1st and the 15th of each month. (which I agreed) The problem is I was never told how much those withdrawals would be. My husband is a disabled veteran and only gets a check once a month. We never even appeared in court. The opposing attorney was not contacting my attorney for 4+ months, yet my balance was never known by me and was growing somehow. It wasn't until I requested a statement that I received a few through email. I have never once spoken to Peter on the phone. Although the attorney who was working with me was very nice, he told me he had no part in the billing. He told me it was Peter. Basically, I gave a $4500 retainer in case we needed to go to court, which we never did, and I never received regular monthly statements from Mr. Calabrese. Due to my experience with the billing of this attorney, I would NEVER recommend them. This morning I see an email saying he will not represent me any longer because of my large outstanding balance (which I knew nothing about). As soon as I emailed him, all of a sudden I receive all these statements. Lol! And a balance that was insane. I agree with Mel. Do not sign any contract that involves giving your banking info out. This is not ethical and I intend on reporting to the Bar. These are examples of bad practices. People are already hurting in bad land situations, and the last thing anyone needs is to be taken advantage of. Beware people! Read Mel's review, and others on several sites before you use this firm. If you don't believe me, read others.

I had a great experience with Fienberg and Alban. I never would have thought I would need a lawyer, especially in a state that I don't even live in. But I can tell you Alexis, my lawyer ,made everything so easy that I was not concerned at all throughout the process. I was kept up to date with everything and they answered every single question that I had. And when all was said and done they continued to check on me to make sure all was well. I would highly recommend this law firm to anyone needing a lawyer. I can't say enough kind words about the law firm and Alexis. If you need a lawyer, please consider this firm and Alexis.

As someone who has unfortunately been in a major accident prior to the one for which I've recently needed legal counsel for, I can attest firsthand in the difficulty of finding a reputable, capable, knowledgeable, and experienced lawyer, and what to look for in terms of pros and cons in being able to find a lawyer who will get you the best possible outcome. Last August, I was struck by a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed as a pedestrian. I had five major surgeries, spent two months in the hospital, am permanently disfigured, and spent over a year bedridden. During my hospital stay, I spent my whole second month doing my due diligence and, using my experience from my prior accident, I found and obtained, what I believe to be one of the better lawyers in the Greater Boston area. Through comparing and contrasting numerous websites and ratings in the highly concentrated Boston pool, I found Mr. Feinberg, who had above-satisfactory reviews and high ratings across the board, especially on websites where lawyers rate other lawyers, which is very telling within itself. It addition, Mr. Feinberg also had the highest settlement amount in the Boston area for five consecutive years in a row. From experience, I can proclaim from both my prior and recent accidents, that if you're looking for a lawyer who get the job done and get it done right, I highly, highly recommend Mr. Feinberg. He got me the highest possible settlement amount in an expedient manner, was always responsive and answered all my questions thoroughly and diligently, and overall is just a genuine, caring person and a great, trial-experienced lawyer. I really can’t emphasize this enough—during what was the worst time and experience in my life, Mr. Feinberg did an satifactory exemplary job.

Attorney Wayland is an honest lawyer with high ethical standards and very practical approach. I found Edward after searching the list of best lawyers in Boston and he proved to be one for my highly contentious long stretched divorce case. From the very beginning till the very last day of our work together, Edward was always prompt and available, guiding me through the options, clarifying my doubts and ignorance about the process, and providing compassion and encouragement during tough moments. Throughout the process, Edward had an approach of resolving issues collaboratively with the other party, however, if I felt I was getting unfair share and wanted to fight back harder, he was right by my side with unwavering advocacy for that as well. I personally am very impressed by Edward’s command over communication skills as he can say strong stuff in a very polite yet firm and targeted verbiage. I was surprised to see other lawyers getting agitated or rude, but Edward always held calm demeanor while maintaining firm tone and pushing the agenda forward. Finally, my case is over now, and I have moved forward in my life, but I will always be grateful to have Edward Wayland as my divorce attorney while I went through the rough times of life. I highly recommend Attorney Wayland to anyone seeking divorce or custody help. Infact, I have already given his reference to couple people who were seeking help due to my exceptional experience working with him.

Divorce is not joyful. However, having Attorney Wayland by your side as a guide will certainly alleviate the day to day weightiness of it all and ultimately aid in the ultimate goal: a sense of peace and stability, and if you have children, a sense of comfort in knowing that everything will be fine. Attorney Wayland affirms the above, during the entire process. He is generous, kind, fair and sensible. Attorney Wayland is extremely knowledgeable of his field and will fight for you every step of the way.

Every year Boston magazine publishes the results for top attorneys in Boston from different legal specialties, from business and criminal law to family and employment law. If there are top 100 attorneys; Edward Wayland would be voted as the top 10 WORST attorneys in Boston. I'm very grateful I had made the right decision to terminate him for ineffectiveness of his counsel. About few years ago, To today's day, I never regretted (terminating) firing Edward Wayland. He almost ruined my life and my freedom. lack of communication, Failure to exercise diligence, ineffectiveness of his counsel, and Incompetence, Incompetence, and Incompetence. I'm in the process of filing a complaint against him to the Massachusetts Board of Bar Overseer; Attorney and Consumer Assistance Program (ACAP), I think he should get his license suspended or revoked. (everything I stated here is true except for the top 10 worst attorneys).

Was assigned to represent me in a medical malpractice suit involving the death of my husband. During much of that time she was out on maternity leave. Never felt she connected with what the impact of my husband's death was to me or my family. Towards the end of the suit, I was told that I would have no choice but to dismiss it, despite the fact the hospital was responsible for his death (he was taken to the ER with intermittant confusion by ambulance and wondered out of the hospital ER only to be found 3 days later after falling down an embankment). After much heartwrenching thinking and a second opinion at the time, I agreed to a dismissal. Later, I was told that the hospital would not allow a dismissal unless i did it with prejudice. Not being aware of options, I agreed to it. I soon found out she didn't give me any options as she was preparing to leave the practice and wanted to wrap things up. I have sinced found more evidence, that I could have produced had I been given the time. Now my family and I are struggling to keep the only home that my children have known. We basically lost everything. Because the case was dismissed with prejudice, there is nothing I can do as I see this medical center continue to grow and not take responsibility for what they did to my husband

Seyfarth Shaw, the Attorney for the Marriott, is the worst Attorney that I have seen on record. Overbilling, lying to their client, costing their client $$$$, while they misrepresent, just attrocious behavior and an incompetant law firm. Trying to influence a Federal Judge after they have misfiled pleadings.

We highly recommend Attorney Andrew Adams. We recently took over the company and Andrew helped us navagite the restructuring. He was always three steps ahead, responded quickly and eased our minds about everything. What stuck out the most, was how personally invested he was about helping the company's transition.

What a Medical Malpractice Lawyer Can Do for You

A medical malpractice lawyer specializes in helping individuals who have been harmed due to the negligence or misconduct of healthcare professionals, such as doctors, nurses, or hospitals. These lawyers assist in cases where a healthcare provider deviates from the accepted standard of care, resulting in injury or death. Medical malpractice cases can involve misdiagnosis, surgical errors, medication mistakes, birth injuries, and other forms of medical negligence.

If you or a loved one has suffered harm due to improper medical treatment, a medical malpractice lawyer can help you understand your legal options, file a lawsuit, and pursue compensation for medical expenses, pain and suffering, lost wages, and other damages.

When Should I Hire a Medical Malpractice Lawyer?

Hiring a medical malpractice lawyer is essential if you’ve been seriously injured due to the negligence of a healthcare provider or institution. Situations where you should seek legal representation include:

  • Misdiagnosis or delayed diagnosis: If a doctor fails to diagnose or delays diagnosing a medical condition, leading to harm or progression of the illness.
  • Surgical errors: Harm resulting from surgical mistakes such as operating on the wrong site, leaving instruments inside the body, or performing unnecessary procedures.
  • Medication errors: Injuries caused by prescribing the wrong medication or dosage, or mistakes made by pharmacists in dispensing drugs.
  • Birth injuries: Injuries to a newborn due to medical negligence during labor and delivery, such as failing to perform a timely C-section or improper use of delivery instruments.
  • Anesthesia errors: Complications arising from improperly administered anesthesia, which can lead to serious injury or death.
  • Inadequate follow-up or aftercare: Suffering due to lack of proper monitoring or care after a medical procedure, leading to complications.
  • Hospital or nursing home negligence: Harm caused by the negligence of hospital staff, nurses, or administrators who failed to provide adequate care.

Medical malpractice cases are complex, and hiring a lawyer early can help ensure your rights are protected and your case is handled effectively.

What Does a Medical Malpractice Lawyer Do?

A medical malpractice lawyer provides various legal services to help injured patients hold negligent healthcare providers accountable. Their responsibilities include:

  • Evaluating your case: Reviewing medical records and consulting with experts to determine if you have a viable claim based on the standard of care and harm suffered.
  • Filing a lawsuit: Initiating legal action by filing a complaint against the responsible parties in the appropriate court.
  • Gathering evidence: Collecting medical records, expert testimonies, and other relevant evidence to build a strong case.
  • Negotiating with insurance companies: Working to secure a fair settlement that compensates you for your injuries without the need for a trial.
  • Litigating in court: Representing you during trial proceedings if a settlement cannot be reached, presenting evidence and arguing your case.
  • Calculating damages: Assessing the full extent of your losses, including medical expenses, lost income, pain and suffering, and future care needs.
  • Handling expert testimony: Coordinating with medical experts who can testify on how the standard of care was breached and how it led to your injuries.

How Are Medical Malpractice Lawyers Paid?

Most medical malpractice lawyers work on a contingency fee basis, which means they only get paid if they recover compensation for you. Key aspects of this payment structure include:

  • Contingency fee percentage: The lawyer's fee is typically between 25% and 40% of the settlement or award.
  • No upfront costs: You do not pay any legal fees unless the lawyer successfully recovers compensation on your behalf.
  • Case expenses: Costs for expert witnesses, medical record retrieval, and court fees may be deducted from your settlement or award in addition to the lawyer's fee.

Always discuss the fee arrangement during your initial consultation to understand your financial obligations.

How Much Does a Medical Malpractice Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a medical malpractice lawyer is usually based on a contingency fee model. General estimates include:

  • Contingency fee: Lawyers typically charge between 25% and 40% of the total recovery amount.
  • Case expenses: Additional costs such as expert witness fees and court expenses can range from $5,000 to $50,000 or more, depending on the case complexity.

Ensure you receive a clear explanation of all potential fees and expenses before proceeding with your case.

Top Questions to Ask a Medical Malpractice Lawyer

Before hiring a medical malpractice lawyer, consider asking the following questions:

  1. What experience do you have with medical malpractice cases like mine?
Confirm the lawyer has a successful track record with similar cases.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Understand the contingency fee percentage and any additional costs you may incur.
  3. What is the likelihood of success in my case?
Seek an honest assessment of your case's strengths and potential challenges.
  4. How long will the process take?
Get an estimate of the timeline for settling or taking the case to trial.
  5. Will you handle my case personally?
Ensure you know who will be managing your case and their level of involvement.
  6. Have you worked with expert witnesses?
Verify the lawyer's experience in collaborating with medical experts essential for your case.

How to Check the Credibility of a Medical Malpractice Lawyer

To ensure you're hiring a reputable lawyer, take the following steps:

  • Verify their bar status: Check with your state bar association for their license and any disciplinary actions.
  • Review their experience: Look for specialization in medical malpractice and a history of successful cases.
  • Read client reviews: Consult platforms like Avvo or Martindale-Hubbell for testimonials and ratings.
  • Ask for references: Request contact information of previous clients willing to discuss their experience.
  • Check professional affiliations: Membership in organizations like the American Association for Justice (AAJ) indicates a commitment to the field.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To maximize the effectiveness of your initial meeting, bring the following:

  • Medical records: All documents related to your treatment and injury.
  • Evidence of harm: Photos, medical bills, and records of lost wages.
  • Communication records: Any correspondence with healthcare providers or institutions.
  • List of healthcare providers: Names and contact information of all involved medical personnel.
  • Questions for the lawyer: A prepared list to address all your concerns.
  • Timeline of events: A detailed chronology of your medical care and the issues encountered.

Being well-prepared helps the lawyer assess your case accurately and advise you on the best course of action.
