I hired Matt Turner because I was a victim of medical malpractice. Matt's ability to plan for and be proactive in my case was incredible to watch and be a part of. The preparation leading up to court was tremendous and I was so impressed with and thankful for his dedication. In court, he was simply amazing. The difference between my team (Team Debbie) and the defense team was very apparent to everyone in that court room, especially the jury. His staff is second to none. The defense team is a very reputable and established law firm but there was still no comparison. Matt was so prepared, professional, and asked all the right questions at the right time. His knowledge of the law and his research of my case was extraordinary. He is very smart and, at the same time, so kind and sensitive. Matt truly has a gift. I felt very safe and comfortable with him representing me during one of the most stressful events of my life. The lawsuit was against a top neurosurgeon in Oakland County. In fact, he's one of the top surgeons in the Midwest. The odds were against us, but with Matt by my side, we won. The victory was unanimous, which is very rare in Oakland County. I am so blessed and thankful that I hired Matt Turner. I will always recommend Matt to anyone that needs a lawyer. I have worked with many lawyers throughout my 40 year career and Matt Turner is the simply BEST I have ever seen.

Matthew took our case shortly after my mother was paralyzed from a surgery. But as time progressed, we got the feeling he wasn't even trying as he repeatedly claimed he was very busy with other cases. Upon further research from his peers, we discovered Matthew is one of those attorneys who only takes on "easy win" cases. So we began to press him a bit after 8-months for which we were informed that he'd get back with us after his vacation. Once he did, he informed us that our case required a lot of effort and he didn't have the time for it. So in the end, Matthew Turner wasted nearly a year of the 2-year timeframe for filing suit. I've lost respect for attorneys like Matthew Turner, they aren't fighting for you... they're fighting to make the most money for their firm with least effort of their resources.

Matt took over the lead in my case. I got the sense right away that he meant business and if anyone was going to be able to help me, Matt would! He has the exuberant go getter attitude that gave me instant confidence and trust that I was in good hands while at the same time was kind and sensitive to my situation. In the end, I felt he truly looked out for my best interests and gave me the informed and proper guidance to settle my case. I will recommend him to anyone i know that needs legal help. Thank you Matt!

He had my case for 7 months. I never spoke to him. He decided I didn’t have a case. His summation of my case was completely inaccurate. It was obvious that he didn’t review my medical records. He said there are three points that have to be proven in order to get justice. He said he couldn’t prove any of them. I’m not a lawyer and I can easily prove all three points. I went to the ER and told them exactly what was wrong with me. They didn’t take it seriously and a week later, I was taken into emergency surgery for exactly what I had told them was wrong. I almost died because of their negligence and spent a month in the hospital and have spent the past year recovering. This man obviously doesn’t care about clients and did not give my case the attention it deserves. I will be seeking another attorney who I’m confident can win my case.

The thought of testifying in a jury trial for a medical malpractice case can be pretty intimidating, to say the least. I needed representation from an attorney who was empathetic and effective. Andrija Dragovic proved to be that attorney time and time again. He was clearly dedicated to finding justice, explored my options every step of the way, and respected all my decisions regarding the case. I was impressed with his efforts to communicate regularly with me and provide education regarding the legal process in terms that were easy to understand. He was prepared to go to trial in my case, and we did! The jury came back with a unanimous finding in my favor and I was awarded the maximum amount for damages. Mr. Dragovic was extremely prepared, well versed in case law, and compelling during the trial. Behind the scenes, while relating to me, he was thoughtful and down to earth. I couldn't have asked for better representation and have a tremendous amount of respect for Andrija Dragovic his legal practice.

Malpractice case and was told I would never "be on trial" not true. No concern for the actual wellbeing of the victim. I know I was dumped by my primary care and ortho because of the excessive record demands of defense. Made Judith aware in writing over several years. She ignored and I'm left with PTSD and no health care. Trying to rebuild my life after Sommers Schwartz and Judith

Attorney Sickels was very helpful and comforting during a difficult time. He was very attentive when we had questions, and never made us feel like we weren't his main priority. He was prompt in returning calls or emails, and we appreciated all his time and efforts.

After stringing us along for nearly 5 years, tells us a week and a half before trial that he doesn't think we can win and if we did win we wouldn't get any money. It was a total waste of time and money.

What a Medical Malpractice Lawyer Can Do for You

A medical malpractice lawyer specializes in helping individuals who have been harmed due to the negligence or misconduct of healthcare professionals, such as doctors, nurses, or hospitals. These lawyers assist in cases where a healthcare provider deviates from the accepted standard of care, resulting in injury or death. Medical malpractice cases can involve misdiagnosis, surgical errors, medication mistakes, birth injuries, and other forms of medical negligence.

If you or a loved one has suffered harm due to improper medical treatment, a medical malpractice lawyer can help you understand your legal options, file a lawsuit, and pursue compensation for medical expenses, pain and suffering, lost wages, and other damages.

When Should I Hire a Medical Malpractice Lawyer?

Hiring a medical malpractice lawyer is essential if you’ve been seriously injured due to the negligence of a healthcare provider or institution. Situations where you should seek legal representation include:

  • Misdiagnosis or delayed diagnosis: If a doctor fails to diagnose or delays diagnosing a medical condition, leading to harm or progression of the illness.
  • Surgical errors: Harm resulting from surgical mistakes such as operating on the wrong site, leaving instruments inside the body, or performing unnecessary procedures.
  • Medication errors: Injuries caused by prescribing the wrong medication or dosage, or mistakes made by pharmacists in dispensing drugs.
  • Birth injuries: Injuries to a newborn due to medical negligence during labor and delivery, such as failing to perform a timely C-section or improper use of delivery instruments.
  • Anesthesia errors: Complications arising from improperly administered anesthesia, which can lead to serious injury or death.
  • Inadequate follow-up or aftercare: Suffering due to lack of proper monitoring or care after a medical procedure, leading to complications.
  • Hospital or nursing home negligence: Harm caused by the negligence of hospital staff, nurses, or administrators who failed to provide adequate care.

Medical malpractice cases are complex, and hiring a lawyer early can help ensure your rights are protected and your case is handled effectively.

What Does a Medical Malpractice Lawyer Do?

A medical malpractice lawyer provides various legal services to help injured patients hold negligent healthcare providers accountable. Their responsibilities include:

  • Evaluating your case: Reviewing medical records and consulting with experts to determine if you have a viable claim based on the standard of care and harm suffered.
  • Filing a lawsuit: Initiating legal action by filing a complaint against the responsible parties in the appropriate court.
  • Gathering evidence: Collecting medical records, expert testimonies, and other relevant evidence to build a strong case.
  • Negotiating with insurance companies: Working to secure a fair settlement that compensates you for your injuries without the need for a trial.
  • Litigating in court: Representing you during trial proceedings if a settlement cannot be reached, presenting evidence and arguing your case.
  • Calculating damages: Assessing the full extent of your losses, including medical expenses, lost income, pain and suffering, and future care needs.
  • Handling expert testimony: Coordinating with medical experts who can testify on how the standard of care was breached and how it led to your injuries.

How Are Medical Malpractice Lawyers Paid?

Most medical malpractice lawyers work on a contingency fee basis, which means they only get paid if they recover compensation for you. Key aspects of this payment structure include:

  • Contingency fee percentage: The lawyer's fee is typically between 25% and 40% of the settlement or award.
  • No upfront costs: You do not pay any legal fees unless the lawyer successfully recovers compensation on your behalf.
  • Case expenses: Costs for expert witnesses, medical record retrieval, and court fees may be deducted from your settlement or award in addition to the lawyer's fee.

Always discuss the fee arrangement during your initial consultation to understand your financial obligations.

How Much Does a Medical Malpractice Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a medical malpractice lawyer is usually based on a contingency fee model. General estimates include:

  • Contingency fee: Lawyers typically charge between 25% and 40% of the total recovery amount.
  • Case expenses: Additional costs such as expert witness fees and court expenses can range from $5,000 to $50,000 or more, depending on the case complexity.

Ensure you receive a clear explanation of all potential fees and expenses before proceeding with your case.
