I unfortunately hired Devon Neill to represent me in a personal injury claim. I found Devon Neill very unprofessional, incompetent and constantly out lawyered by the insurance company’s lawyer, I thought it was bad. I did not find her aggressive as she stated to me in the beginning. I attended several hearings with Devon Neill. My observations were that Devon Neill lacked basic legal knowledge on numerous occasions, such as Bates Labeling. I found Devon Neill’s representation so unprofessional and dishonest that I filled a complaint with the Office of Attorney Regulation Counsel. After their investigation, the Office of Attorney Regulation Counsel gave Devon Neill a diversion agreement. In my opinion, hiring Devon Neill is the worst thing I ever did. Please do not make the same mistake.

Devon recently represented me while I was going through a very difficult time in my life. She guided me through the legal process effectively and concisely, and was very productive in dealing with all parties. She took on my case and represented me as if it were she. She not only represented me as an attorney, she also became a friend. I highly respect and recommend Devon to anyone needing legal representation.

Attorney (I feel embarrassed even calling him that) Rechard Tegtmeier frequently made excuses and exhibited a lack of diligence in handling my case. Throughout the duration of my interactions with Tegtmeier, I found his behavior to be extremely inappropriate and disrespectful. I had to tell him to withdraw and had a different attorney represent me. He consistently came across as rude and displayed a clear disdain towards individuals of color, including myself. Despite my attempts to maintain professionalism and cooperation, I could sense an underlying prejudice in his demeanor towards me. It became evident to me, and subsequently to others in similar situations, that his representation was marred by discrimination against minority groups. I have since learned that I am not the only individual who has felt marginalized and mistreated by Tegtmeier's actions.

Most times when you hire a defense attorney, chances are it is not for a pleasant situation. What made it a lot more enjoyable was the professionalism of this law firm! Every single staff member that I met was extremely professional and friendly. I had the pleasure working with them for approximately one year. Anytime I emailed or called, they responded in a timely manner. They explained the whole process and answered all my questions. They are extremely knowledgeable and amazing at what they do! I can not thank Max, Marianne and Hailey enough for all their hardwork and dedication!!! If you find yourself in a situation where you need a defense attorney, hire the best! If you want the best, then hire this law firm!

In mid 2015 I hired Mr. Tameler to help with some legal issues I was having. When I initially met with Mr. Tameler he told me that he would help me with my case and gave me a flat fee of $2000.00. I had met with other attorneys that had told me I would have to pay a retainer of $3500.00 before they would even see me, so Mr. Tamelers $2000.00 was welcomed. My case just finished and I couldn't be happier with the outcome. Mr. Tameler got all my charges dismissed. I never had any issues contacting him, or asking his advice about court. Thank you very much!! I would tell anyone to go to him. He is the best!

I hired Ryan Callahan for a family custody case for which he failed greatly after charging me $20,000 (I fully paid). He didn't even check to see if he had jurisdiction in the state prior to pursuing the case! 2 years later, he used all of my financial information against me to sue me (complete conflict of interest) for child care at local private school when they knew 2 months prior to school starting and even gave us a letter of recommendation. We had to move because my now deceased mother had cancer and needed help. Ruthless and immoral. This type of work ethic would never survive in city with real competition. Moreover, he knew that I moved and intentionally served papers to my prior place of business, which I never received. Stay far away from Callahan and Connerly as they are inept and unethical.

Bruce Rohde has represented me, my corporation and my real estate business since 1984. We have never lost in court or settlement. I started with him in his early days and watched as he became one of the top Denver laywers based on the size of the judgments and wins he has accomplished. I would say his best feature is that he listens and never forgets a detail. He will recall something I said 20 years ago. Kind of creepy- in a good way. In the only trial in which I was a defendant, every asset I owned was at risk. During 5 days of testimony, mostly lies by the plaintiffs, Mr. Rohde absolutely blew one witness after another up on the stand, and after I won, the court's staff came up to him and said it was the best performance they had ever seen. The jury agreed. You will not go wrong with Bruce Rohde.

Where do begin, I worked with Russell for over a year when he was at Ring & Associates in Fort Collins Colorado. This was for a car accident. Over the course of an entire year Russell didn't get anything done in my case. He had over 50 different times in which he failed to respond. He put in lackluster effort which reflected in my settlement amount. He never pushed to get more money in my pocket and It took and entire year to reach a settlement. The same exact deal that was presented in the beginning of the process. The only reason I accepted is because I was tired of dealing with his effort. Miss phone calls, missed emails, wouldn't give me updates for months on end. It was very sad to see how little he cared about me as a client. To put the cherry on top, he accepted the settlement in a frozen account left the firm and didn't bother to tell me. The only reason I ever knew is because I emailed 5 separate times to get a response. He finally responded with "Sorry I no longer work there" So he essential took a year to send a settlement that never changed and accepted it into a frozen account. Appreciate all the hard work you did for me. I highly recommend to any future potential clients to not use Russell, he does not care about his clients.

Amy is currently helping me litigate against A large retailer and has helped my wife in the past with litigation against a pizza delivery worker who t-boned us years ago. I know of no other lawyer who would go through what she's been through with me. She is so responsive, generous, caring and trustworthy. She has helped me tremendously and has been a true friend throughout this ordeal. While she is still learning about Workers Comp cases she is not afraid of the big boys or to ask colleagues for advice or to school herself on the issues. What a tremendous job se has done for me and my family. She helped me get my job back, to win compensability in what seemed like a hopeless case, and we're still fighting. She is tenacious, doesn't give up and her background outside of Workers Comp in other areas of practice proved invaluable in my situation. I have recommended her to several friends and co-workers and she has successfully litigated on their behalf, winning two that I have sent her way and working on two others beside mine. Through my case and others she has become a local expert in dealing with Wal-Mart and standing up to their tactics. I highly recommend her services should you need to stand up to this Goliath. Thank you Amy for all you have done and are still doing. Whatever happens I will be eternally grateful for you! Pastor Joe Senior Pastor, Mile High Bible Institute

It has been several years ago when Ms. Palmer, as part of a larger insurance defense firm, refused to pay my entire invoice for services rendered as a professional consultant in a medical malpractice case. The amount of money left unpaid is not the point but the fact that they unilaterally made a decision without any attempt to negotiate or discuss it with me. Her excuse at the time was that the insurance adjuster refused but I found no evidence that she made any attempt to support my claim. This had not happened to me previously and has not happened since. I would caution all professional consultant in working with her or any firm that she is associated with.

I hired this man to take over my divorce case after my previous lawyer became very I'll. This man took every advantage he could of my situation knowing that my case was difficult and I didn't have the opportunity to hire any one else at the time. He was totally focused on the money, always asking for more retainer while at the same time not preparing at all for my hearings. I did most of the work for him. Mark Reider is totally unprofessional. He will not stay quiet long enough for you to have your own say in the matter. Going into final orders hearing he was not prepared at all. Horrible representation. He did nothing for me. He waited to see what my ex offered and told me to acceot it all because it was all "standard". I had no way to know. I'd never been divorced before. I was married for 14 years and accepted maintenance for only 3 years, on his advice, because "it was standard". We never countered anything. He never tried! Later I learned that standard is at least half of the length of the marriage. I hadn't worked for the last 10 years of marriage because I was raising the kids and this short period of maintenance was impossible to ever dig out of. Ironically, many years later I married someone who also used Dan Michaels as his divorce attorney when he divorced his first wife and his experience was the exact same. Dan never did anything, waited until the opposing side made an offer and just said "accept it all because it's standard". It wasn't at all. He's lazy, expensive and destructive.

To start, he would frequently forget details of our case. It was obvious some of his paperwork was copy and pasted because reading through it, he would mix up the sex of the client he was writing about, i.e. "she" instead of "he." His paralegal, also his wife, seemed to do most of the leg work. He also frequently made snide remarks about the other party's lawyer, which was completely unprofessional. Finally, on the big day, he needed an hour recess because he was working another case at the same time we were in court! Court took only an hour excluding the recess during which he was phone conferencing another case, and charged us for a full two hours! He came with a list of questions he was going to ask right before we went into court... which did not seem to make any sense and half of which were not even asked, and charged us for that too! During court, he was not even paying attention to what the other lawyer was asking (on either side), was side talking with his paralegal the entire time, and at one point actually left the courtroom. How disrespectful! We had given some evidence to him regarding the other party which only made us look ridiculous in court... which I would have thought that after being in practice for so long, he would have known it was senseless to bring it in. This, among other things, seriously questioned his level of competence. No wonder the judge did not rule in our favor. Then when we brought up our concerns afterward, his response was simply that nobody gets what they want and at least the other party didn't get as much money as they anticipated. He must have missed the part about how this was not about money but about the care and safety of a little girl! Now we are stuck with a $3k bill after a $1500 retainer. Just unbelievable.

Went to a hearing, and judge asked me to come back with an attorney. Found this one through a friend referrel . Worst decision ever for legal representation. She literally did nothing. Except negotiate an inset date that cost me to lose 3 years of backpay, in exchange for a bench decision. Then had the audacity to charge me for fees for Obtaining my med records... Which I took to her and paid out of pocket for, to the record copiers, In order to get them released. She then took 25% of each of my children's backpay as well, which I never retained her for my children. Scam con artist scum attorney. Avoid her at all costs

James Freemyer, contract signed on contingency with intent to go to trial. A few months later he accepted policy limit offer without consulting me. I’ve had surgery on my neck, permanent disability and out of work. This attorney settled my case without my permission for 100,000 with 200,000 in doctors bills. The remaining of the 100,000 is 38,000 has a lien on it from Mr. Freemyer for attorney fees and costs. I was a passenger in a car with my minor child at the time. And James E. Freemyer in bad faith was the leading team player of the attorney against my son and I. Now I’m facing him in court about his attorney fees witch after refusing signature on release he withdrew from counsel before filing any discovery or any filings other than complaint witch included C.R.S 10-3-1115 and 1116, Is bad faith law in Colorado against insurance companies, this also needs to be implemented into attorneys acting in bad faith. I was in an auto accident in July, 2015, where I was injured after being forcefully rear-ended and thrust into into another vehicle in front of me. I went to Heuser and Heuser for representation, they readily agreed to take my case, and I was assigned to one of their attorneys, Patrick Salt. The day Mr. Salt took my case was the one and only time I met with, or even spoke to him, until the day he dropped me 19 months later. The only contact I received from the firm during that time as their client, other than periodic letters, were from legal assistants, and ONE face to face with Mr. Salt's paralegal. (He went through three different legal assistants during my time as his client, and each time a new one was brought on, I literally had to give them every detail of my case, the doctors who were treating me, etc. as though the last one had not kept any notes or records of the previous conversations I had with them). I often would not hear from anyone for 2-3 months at a time, then I would have to call to ask how/what was going on with my case. Whatever assistant was there at the time, would either make up some sort of excuse about why I had not been contacted or why things were taking so long, such as saying my doctors had still not sent them my records, or something similar that put blame on someone else. Sometimes they offered me no excuse, and simply told me they would speak with Mr. Salt and get back to me; then another several weeks or months would go by. To make a long story short, Mr. Salt completely neglected my case for a year and a half, then when I assume he realized his neglect had severely hurt my case, or they weren't going to be able to make enough money off of me, I was called in to speak with Mr. Salt for the second and last time at the end of February, 2017. This was when he told me he "didn't feel comfortable" representing me anymore and withdrew from my case. I was given no warning, and when I pleaded with him not to do this to me and asked for a reason why, he refused to give me an explanation, instead, he literally opened his office door and responded with "have a good day." So now I'm left with a stack of paperwork as thick as an encyclopedia, with no idea how to proceed, attempting to find another attorney who is willing to take a tarnished case. Mr. Salt treated me like I wasn't a human being, but just a disposable "case number" that was only worth whatever potential money I could make them, and once he thought they couldn't make enough off me, I was thrown away like a piece of garbage. It was the worst experience I have ever had with someone who is supposed to be a professional.

What a Personal Injury Lawyer Can Do for You

A personal injury lawyer specializes in helping individuals who have been physically or emotionally injured due to the negligence or wrongful actions of another party. Whether you've been hurt in a car accident, suffered a slip and fall, or experienced medical malpractice, a personal injury attorney works to ensure you receive fair compensation for your injuries. They can help you recover damages for medical bills, lost wages, pain and suffering, and other related expenses.

Personal injury lawyers act as your advocate, navigating the legal system on your behalf and dealing with insurance companies to ensure you get the compensation you deserve. They understand how to handle complex legal matters and help you avoid common pitfalls.

When Should I Hire a Personal Injury Lawyer?

Hiring a personal injury lawyer can be beneficial in many situations where you've been harmed due to another's negligence. Some key scenarios include:

  • Severe injuries: If you've suffered significant or permanent injuries that result in substantial medical bills, a lawyer can help ensure you are fairly compensated.
  • Long-term or permanent disability: Injuries that affect your ability to work or require ongoing medical treatment are complex, and a lawyer can help estimate long-term damages.
  • Disputed liability: If the responsible party or their insurance company denies liability for your injury, a lawyer can gather evidence and advocate on your behalf.
  • Insurance company lowball offers: Insurers often try to settle personal injury claims for as little as possible. A lawyer can negotiate to get you a fair settlement.
  • Medical malpractice claims: Injuries caused by a doctor, nurse, or healthcare provider due to negligence require a personal injury lawyer experienced in medical malpractice law.
  • Exposure to hazardous substances: If you've been injured due to exposure to toxins, chemicals, or dangerous substances, a lawyer can help pursue legal action.

Hiring a lawyer early in the process is crucial, especially if you're unsure of the full extent of your injuries or damages.

What Does a Personal Injury Lawyer Do?

A personal injury lawyer provides a wide range of services to guide you through the legal process and maximize your compensation. They can:

  • Evaluate your case: A lawyer will assess the strength of your claim and determine whether you have a viable case.
  • Investigate the incident: Gathering evidence such as police reports, witness statements, medical records, and expert opinions is key to building a strong case.
  • Negotiate with insurance companies: Lawyers handle communications with insurance companies to ensure you receive a fair settlement and aren't taken advantage of.
  • File a lawsuit if necessary: If a fair settlement can't be reached, the lawyer can file a personal injury lawsuit on your behalf and represent you in court.
  • Help calculate damages: This includes medical expenses, lost wages, future medical needs, pain and suffering, and emotional distress.
  • Prepare and file legal documents: Lawyers handle all the paperwork and deadlines associated with your case, including filing motions and discovery requests.
  • Represent you at trial: If your case goes to trial, the lawyer will argue your case before a judge and jury to obtain the compensation you deserve.

How Are Personal Injury Lawyers Paid?

Most personal injury lawyers work on a contingency fee basis. This means they only get paid if they win your case, either through settlement or a court judgment. Here’s how it works:

  • Contingency fee percentage: The lawyer will take a percentage of the settlement or award, typically between 25% and 40%, depending on the complexity of the case and the stage at which it's resolved.
  • Costs and expenses: In addition to the contingency fee, the lawyer may deduct other costs associated with the case, such as filing fees, expert witness fees, and court costs. These expenses are often advanced by the lawyer and repaid out of the settlement.
  • No upfront payment: Since the lawyer’s fee is contingent on winning, you usually don’t pay anything upfront.

Always discuss the lawyer’s fee structure during your consultation to avoid surprises.

How Much Does a Personal Injury Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a personal injury lawyer depends on the specifics of your case and the lawyer’s fee structure. However, since most personal injury lawyers work on a contingency fee basis, the amount you pay will depend on the outcome of your case. Here are some general guidelines:

  • Contingency fees: Typically range from 25% to 40% of the settlement or award. The percentage may increase if the case goes to trial or requires an appeal.
  • Other costs: In addition to the lawyer's fee, you may be responsible for case-related expenses such as expert witness fees, medical record retrieval fees, and court costs. These are often deducted from your settlement, so you won't have to pay out of pocket.

While the cost may seem high, hiring an experienced lawyer can significantly increase the amount you recover, making it a worthwhile investment.

Top Questions to Ask a Personal Injury Lawyer

Before hiring a personal injury lawyer, it's essential to ask questions to ensure you’re choosing the right representation. Here are some important questions to ask:

  1. What is your experience with personal injury cases like mine?
Make sure the lawyer has handled cases involving similar injuries or accidents.
  2. What is your fee structure?
Clarify whether the lawyer charges a contingency fee and what percentage they will take from any settlement or award.
  3. How long will my case take?
While it's hard to predict, a lawyer can give you an estimate based on similar cases they’ve handled.
  4. How often do you take cases to trial?
Some lawyers prefer to settle quickly, while others are more comfortable going to court if necessary.
  5. Will you personally handle my case?
In larger firms, junior lawyers or paralegals may handle some aspects of your case, so it's important to know who will be managing your claim.
  6. Do you have references from past clients?
Speaking with past clients can provide valuable insight into the lawyer’s effectiveness and professionalism.

How to Check the Credibility of a Personal Injury Lawyer

To ensure you’re hiring a credible personal injury lawyer, take the following steps:

  • Check bar association records: Verify that the lawyer is licensed and in good standing with your state’s bar association. Look for any history of disciplinary actions.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Online platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, and Google reviews can provide insight into the lawyer's reputation and client satisfaction.
  • Look at their track record: Review their experience with personal injury cases, particularly how many cases they’ve successfully resolved or taken to trial.
  • Ask for references: Credible lawyers should be willing to provide references from past clients who can vouch for their work.
  • Check professional memberships: Lawyers who are members of respected organizations, like the American Association for Justice (AAJ), often have a solid reputation in the field.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first meeting with a personal injury lawyer, prepare the following:

  • Detailed account of the accident: Write down everything you remember about the incident, including dates, times, and locations. Include any witnesses or police reports if available.
  • Medical records and bills: Bring any documentation of your injuries, treatments, and associated medical costs.
  • Insurance information: Provide your insurance details and any communication you’ve had with the other party’s insurance company.
  • Employment and income records: If your injury has impacted your ability to work, bring proof of lost wages or reduced earning capacity.
  • Photos or videos: If you have photos of the accident scene, your injuries, or property damage, bring them to your consultation.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Prepare a list of questions to ask, including how the lawyer will handle your case and what you can expect in terms of timeline and outcome.

By preparing thoroughly for your first consultation, you’ll help the lawyer understand your case more quickly and get a better sense of your legal options.
