Judge for yourself, which reviews are true and which are people who have sour grapes, which may be of a personal nature and clearly malicious. They don’t talk about their case. They don’t talk about the results they just attack. And that’s unfortunate. I spent 30 years giving heart and soul blood sweat and tears to the profession I was grateful and privileged to serve. my record speaks for itself, And, it is truly sad that two years after some health problems, caused me to slow down and not take new cases. That people felt the need to post, false, malicious, and hateful reviews on every format they could find these are people who never built anything or never create anything or never attain a professional degree and you never communicated any complaints if they ever clients. Judge for yourself. True reviews give details of the matter and relate the experience I had in factual terms, not conclusions. But it’s not my job to judge. Nor would I violate the sanctity of the confidential information related to representation. What I can tell you is after being harassed, threatened, and attacked by an imbalanced person that clearly needs help, I am not angry, but concerned and have compassion for those who seek to tear down because of their own issues. Thankfully, my health has improved, but after 30 years of giving my best, working 20 hour days more often than one should, and caring about each and every client ….that the time for me to endure misplaced and malicious attacks…ended. While many of the families that I was privileged to assist still reach out to coax me to take up their cause, I will not. When those in need of mental health care attempt to cause harm to my family, they must expire in their own negative energy. And, be grateful that I chose not to wield the sword of justice and rebuke their attempts to harm. After all, what is the sound of one hand clapping. Last, thank you to thousands of clients that I was so honored to assist. For 30 years, I lived the motto when you love your job you will never “work” a day in your life. So true, it was true gift to be able to say “I can help” and then exceed the expectations of decent folk. So, thank you! Life is an amazing journey and it’s magnificently imperfect. It is what … it is. Yours Matthew O’Connor

It’s not just us !!!! Em would you mind contacting us. We have our own horrible experience with this Lawyer. We are over $25,000 into it with Zero results!! He will not show where the money has gone. He won’t show up to court and acts as if he is overwhelming put out by be being asked ANYTHING about the case IF you can actually make contact with him. Maybe he was a good Lawyer at one time but experience is that he is a scam artist.

I am very dissatisfied with how my case was handled. After finally reaching an agreement with the opposing counsel, they refused to honor the agreement. Unfortunately, Mr O'Connor did nothing to see that the agreement was honored; he made absolutely no effort on my behalf. This could have been resolved in my favor during the final court hearing however, Mr. O'Connor did not bother to show up in court that day for the hearing. In addition to mishandling my case, Mr. O'Connor's behavior toward me was utterly repugnant. While we were preparing for the hearing, Mr. O'Connor was extremely impatient and condescending. When I hired him I told him that I had never been in court before and had no idea what to expect. Rather than explain what the Judge's expectations would be, how best to answer questions, and walking me through the process, he belittled me and even yelled at me. Mr. O'Connor turned a situation that was stressful and upsetting to begin with into a complete nightmare.

Christine Rosengreen is the most unethical attorney. She lied on me which I understand is her job but she also lied on my attorney. I reported her to the state ethics board. Then she goes and lies on me sone more today. So I will report her to the state board again. Seeing her face turn bright red in court was everything when her client admitted to lying on the stand. I'm sure her law firm will pay Google to delete this review. I'll keep posting if it is deleted. She has no business being a licensed attorney. Don't EVER try to lie on my attorney again. How does she sleep at night constantly defending abusive men??? And its not alleged abuse. It's abuse with evidence, video, and witnesses.

I had been charged with possession of marijuana, paraphernalia, failure to registry, and failure to equip vehicle with 2 working headlights. David got the marijuana reduced to littering, and had both the failure to register and the paraphernalia dropped completely. In total the court had charged me officially with littering and a broken headlight fine coming out to less than $700 in court fees. He defended me well, and if anyone were to need a lawyer I'd highly suggest Mr. Wells to anyone.

It is a shame it has taken me more than a decade to find a law firm that knows the law, operates in a top-caliber manner, and treats the client like a human. I have had a couple of attorneys at Hale, but the one who helped us the most was Suzanne. Not only is she a bomb a** attorney, but she also knows how to handle and run a business, be classy, and professional, and have customer service. I appreciate her no-frills approach to handling cases and client situations. She keeps a client-centered approach and looks out for everyone's best interest. Attorneys are indeed expensive but Suzanne makes sure the money spent on your case is allocated in a manner that does not leave your account on zero or paying unnecessary fees. She believes in transparency, honesty, and integrity; which is rare when an attorney is involved in difficult cases. She understands that the way she is represented in and out of the courtroom is a reflection of her business and there is not a time that she does not take her work seriously. The few times we had to speak with her on the phone, she has always been patient and attentive while listening closely to our concerns. She is very responsive and treats the attorney-client relationship as an important investment. You are not just a number to her, but a human. Should I ever need an attorney again, I will hire them again in a heartbeat. To all who work at Hale, we appreciate you. Suzanne, thank you for constantly standing on business and doing right by your clients. You are a real one.

I highly recommend this law firm. I was injured in an auto accident and reached out to them for help. Brice Barnard called me back right away and was so thorough and helpful from the beginning. Brice responded quickly to handling my case. He was very kind, helpful and quick to handle my case. The one thing I really like about VNJ, is that they are very personally connected to their clients. If I had questions or concerns during the process, Brice made sure to respond to me quickly and stay connected one on one through his personal work email and phone. I give this firm 11/10. I was very happy with the outcome of my case and how quick it went! Well done Brice!!!!!

Language is funny – it can mean different things to different people; terms and phrases can have multiple meanings, and tone associated with use can definitely have a bearing on comprehension. When choosing an attorney, what do we listen/look for? What’s important? It depends upon your case and the attorney-client candor. Attorney-client candor involves language and the language defines your comfort index with the attorney and your perceived interpretation/bearing that the attorney will have upon your case. Regarding the case, there are many differences and similarities from one case to another. Someone recommending a lawyer and telling you, “Oh he was nice…,” that’s not a referral I want to hear! Because of the many variables involved; during that initial interview, I think it is important to ask the best questions that you can manage and hopefully it’s not a one-way conversation. I needed a lawyer, the first law office spoken to did not get my case because of language and the one sidedness of the initial conversation. I had questions and I needed answers in as much I was asked to divulge information. I ended up working with Brice Barnard of VNJ Law Office. I received the best settlement that I could hope for, my stress factor was low relatively speaking, and I’m satisfied with the outcome. I can’t tell you how to pick an attorney, but I can tell you that the above concerns worked in guiding me. The rating that I am posting is relevant to “my” satisfaction with the VNJ Law Office.

Working with Tamara was hands down amazing!! I 1000% recommend her. You can tell that she truely cares about what she does. I have never found an attorney who has FAUGHT harder for me! I guess you could say that I felt "safe" with her representing me. She took away all anxiety I had about the situation. She worked hard to make sure I wasn't charged erroneously, and ultimatly got ALL charges against me dropped. She is an extraordinary attorney and an even better human. I would refer my grandmother to her (if the occasion ever arose)Thank you Tamara!! We appreciate you and all you have done for us! You made life SO MUCH easier and gave us a peace of mind that is absolutely priceless!

Rebecca is a great communicator, explained things well as we went along. Unfortunately, through no fault of hers, the case was continued multiple times. I paid only one up front retainer. When my son was going to step in to my place for me, he paid a small retainer up front. Ultimately, the case was withdrawn and Rebecca refunded his retainer. We both found her to be very warm, caring, and honest.

What a Personal Injury Lawyer Can Do for You

A personal injury lawyer specializes in helping individuals who have been physically or emotionally injured due to the negligence or wrongful actions of another party. Whether you've been hurt in a car accident, suffered a slip and fall, or experienced medical malpractice, a personal injury attorney works to ensure you receive fair compensation for your injuries. They can help you recover damages for medical bills, lost wages, pain and suffering, and other related expenses.

Personal injury lawyers act as your advocate, navigating the legal system on your behalf and dealing with insurance companies to ensure you get the compensation you deserve. They understand how to handle complex legal matters and help you avoid common pitfalls.

When Should I Hire a Personal Injury Lawyer?

Hiring a personal injury lawyer can be beneficial in many situations where you've been harmed due to another's negligence. Some key scenarios include:

  • Severe injuries: If you've suffered significant or permanent injuries that result in substantial medical bills, a lawyer can help ensure you are fairly compensated.
  • Long-term or permanent disability: Injuries that affect your ability to work or require ongoing medical treatment are complex, and a lawyer can help estimate long-term damages.
  • Disputed liability: If the responsible party or their insurance company denies liability for your injury, a lawyer can gather evidence and advocate on your behalf.
  • Insurance company lowball offers: Insurers often try to settle personal injury claims for as little as possible. A lawyer can negotiate to get you a fair settlement.
  • Medical malpractice claims: Injuries caused by a doctor, nurse, or healthcare provider due to negligence require a personal injury lawyer experienced in medical malpractice law.
  • Exposure to hazardous substances: If you've been injured due to exposure to toxins, chemicals, or dangerous substances, a lawyer can help pursue legal action.

Hiring a lawyer early in the process is crucial, especially if you're unsure of the full extent of your injuries or damages.

What Does a Personal Injury Lawyer Do?

A personal injury lawyer provides a wide range of services to guide you through the legal process and maximize your compensation. They can:

  • Evaluate your case: A lawyer will assess the strength of your claim and determine whether you have a viable case.
  • Investigate the incident: Gathering evidence such as police reports, witness statements, medical records, and expert opinions is key to building a strong case.
  • Negotiate with insurance companies: Lawyers handle communications with insurance companies to ensure you receive a fair settlement and aren't taken advantage of.
  • File a lawsuit if necessary: If a fair settlement can't be reached, the lawyer can file a personal injury lawsuit on your behalf and represent you in court.
  • Help calculate damages: This includes medical expenses, lost wages, future medical needs, pain and suffering, and emotional distress.
  • Prepare and file legal documents: Lawyers handle all the paperwork and deadlines associated with your case, including filing motions and discovery requests.
  • Represent you at trial: If your case goes to trial, the lawyer will argue your case before a judge and jury to obtain the compensation you deserve.

How Are Personal Injury Lawyers Paid?

Most personal injury lawyers work on a contingency fee basis. This means they only get paid if they win your case, either through settlement or a court judgment. Here’s how it works:

  • Contingency fee percentage: The lawyer will take a percentage of the settlement or award, typically between 25% and 40%, depending on the complexity of the case and the stage at which it's resolved.
  • Costs and expenses: In addition to the contingency fee, the lawyer may deduct other costs associated with the case, such as filing fees, expert witness fees, and court costs. These expenses are often advanced by the lawyer and repaid out of the settlement.
  • No upfront payment: Since the lawyer’s fee is contingent on winning, you usually don’t pay anything upfront.

Always discuss the lawyer’s fee structure during your consultation to avoid surprises.

How Much Does a Personal Injury Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a personal injury lawyer depends on the specifics of your case and the lawyer’s fee structure. However, since most personal injury lawyers work on a contingency fee basis, the amount you pay will depend on the outcome of your case. Here are some general guidelines:

  • Contingency fees: Typically range from 25% to 40% of the settlement or award. The percentage may increase if the case goes to trial or requires an appeal.
  • Other costs: In addition to the lawyer's fee, you may be responsible for case-related expenses such as expert witness fees, medical record retrieval fees, and court costs. These are often deducted from your settlement, so you won't have to pay out of pocket.

While the cost may seem high, hiring an experienced lawyer can significantly increase the amount you recover, making it a worthwhile investment.

Top Questions to Ask a Personal Injury Lawyer

Before hiring a personal injury lawyer, it's essential to ask questions to ensure you’re choosing the right representation. Here are some important questions to ask:

  1. What is your experience with personal injury cases like mine?
Make sure the lawyer has handled cases involving similar injuries or accidents.
  2. What is your fee structure?
Clarify whether the lawyer charges a contingency fee and what percentage they will take from any settlement or award.
  3. How long will my case take?
While it's hard to predict, a lawyer can give you an estimate based on similar cases they’ve handled.
  4. How often do you take cases to trial?
Some lawyers prefer to settle quickly, while others are more comfortable going to court if necessary.
  5. Will you personally handle my case?

How to Check the Credibility of a Personal Injury Lawyer

To ensure you’re hiring a credible personal injury lawyer, take the following steps:

  • Check bar association records: Verify that the lawyer is licensed and in good standing with your state’s bar association. Look for any history of disciplinary actions.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Online platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, and Google reviews can provide insight into the lawyer's reputation and client satisfaction.
  • Look at their track record: Review their experience with personal injury cases, particularly how many cases they’ve successfully resolved or taken to trial.
  • Ask for references: Credible lawyers should be willing to provide references from past clients who can vouch for their work.
  • Check professional memberships: Lawyers who are members of respected organizations, like the American Association for Justice (AAJ), often have a solid reputation in the field.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first meeting with a personal injury lawyer, prepare the following:

  • Detailed account of the accident: Write down everything you remember about the incident, including dates, times, and locations. Include any witnesses or police reports if available.
  • Medical records and bills: Bring any documentation of your injuries, treatments, and associated medical costs.
  • Insurance information: Provide your insurance details and any communication you’ve had with the other party’s insurance company.
  • Employment and income records: If your injury has impacted your ability to work, bring proof of lost wages or reduced earning capacity.
  • Photos or videos: If you have photos of the accident scene, your injuries, or property damage, bring them to your consultation.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Prepare a list of questions to ask, including how the lawyer will handle your case and what you can expect in terms of timeline and outcome.

By preparing thoroughly for your first consultation, you’ll help the lawyer understand your case more quickly and get a better sense of your legal options.
