They could not get my name on at a time of great need representing Morgan and Morgan I expected way more than just someone who could not get my name right could not get the names of my doctors or doctors assistance right could not get the orders right. Leaving me to have multiple tripsps for the same things the. I must say the are not on top of the game they are not for the people I am living suffering proof. don't they understand the pain and suffering at the people are going through and they depend on these attorneys for help. and then they can't get nobody's name right they can't answer any telephone calls when regards I was in the emergency room and they had the information required to save a lot more discomfort and radiation. I just don't know what to do when I only understand the one language I believe I speak well, and then ask for one thing help with my medical situation that is the first thing I asked for. Who wants to be paralyzed who wants to be in constant pain who wants to be promised that they will get the help they're asking for to find out they get nothing but a incompetent at best paralegal who cannot get my name right cause me Mr cook cannot tell Bernice from brunette. When it's an emergency they forget about you at the emergency room while my family frantically is trying to contact them and given the experience line. I honestly don't understand I was told this was a good attorney but yet I am seeing something totally different. I specifically asked for Morgan & Morgan because I thought they had more medical resources which forgot to be the absolute opposite. All medical help that I received with prior to and after Morgan & Morgan it took them over two weeks just to get the paperwork wrong and the name wrong.

Ric Woodward is a great divorce attorney. He stood by my decisions and worked hard to get what I wanted. He replied very fast throughout the 2.5 year process. I consider my case a total win as I got pretty much exactly what I had offered my ex husband in the beginning. When others were not prepared during this process, my attorney always was. He was never late, didn’t try to milk money out of me, easily reachable, and prepared (important). In addition, he seems to know a lot of people in the court system and speaks well of others that he does know. It’s just comforting to know you are in respectful and caring hands when going through such a miserable process. Thank you, Ric!

I visited MA this past week on an employment matter. [Fees were clearly noted prior to the consult] His questions were focused and correctly directed me to issues of which I was unaware, but now am. He was warm, helpful, professional, courteous and direct. I couldn't have asked for anything more. While my meeting was a consult, I expect to retain him as my issue unfolds.

I reached out to Maurice with an international employment issue where my company wasn't honoring their verbal contracts with me or providing me with legality in the country I was working in. Maurice truly Helped guide me through the process to get the best possible outcome and to understand the law as well as my ability within the legal framework. I wasn't able to get 100% of my rights but I was able to get a sizeable win with his coaching.

I was hit by a drunk driver in '04, John took my case and helped me not only receive finances for the damages, but also cleared the accusations that the accident was my fault. He kept me informed through every step of the proceedings, and met with me sometimes several times a week to make sure I was in the know. He offered free legal advice to my friends, and is a very likable person. If you want someone who is honest, real, and KNOWS what their doing and WILL recover damages done to you, go with John.

I believe Chris deceived me. You told me one thing I dished out a lot of money to no avail. When it came time for court all of a sudden it looks like the state attorney didn't know what was going on. After that Chris is no longer accepting the phone calls from my family or from me I had to literally threaten to call the bar on him for him even a reply via text still after this all I got was a three word text I'm highly dissatisfied I have been for over a year waiting for him resolve my case I would not recommend this attorney

Chris accepted my case while I was locked up & in the jail courtroom for my 1st appearance. He took a chance & believed in my case/story enough to say yes to representing me without even a consultation or phone call. I've been blown away by his kindness, work ethic & pursuit of justice in my name. If you're looking for an attorney who will fight for you, your rights and your freedom, look no further than Chris Cochran. The man has literally saved my life in every sense of the word (accepted late night collect jail calls, counseled me thru a SWAT standoff, courthouse cell counseling session etc) . Thank you Chris, I wouldn't be alive & free without you.

Over 2 years to get a loan modification and I am now in foreclosure , I would never recommend . The bank is now trying to take my home and I'm fighting Cancer for the second time . In cahoots with Nationstar Mortgage . He allowed their attorneys to charge me over $15,000 in fees and said he would be able to reverse them . They kicked the can down the road and I even paid for a "mediation" in which Mr. Houck brought ZERO paperwork to defend me and the payments that I made to Nationstar.

We hired Mr Houck back in 2010 to handle a time-sharing modification, our case ended in mid-2013 (the length of the case was not due to him). In this time, we have paid him a total of eight thousand dollars - well above the agree amount. There is no communication from Mr Houck even if you send a million emails, and leave numerous voice mails. When requesting phone conferences, he forgets and only gives you 5 minutes of him time and in the end says "email me the details", and then never responds to the emails until you physically sit down with him and he then reads and goes over the emails. The first time we went to court, he never showed up and had to phone in - which the judge thankfully allowed. His excuse was that his PA didn't put it on his calendar - which tells me he was not preparing for the hearing in the first place. He does not return phone calls or emails, and he is not informed about our personal case until we give him a brief review. I give him a 2-star because he did find a loop hole in the opposite Attorney's paperwork and he did win our case, but we did a lot of the paper work and research ourselves, he just had to file it and review so he knew what to argue. I called him after 11 months of not hearing any update on our case because I saw online there was a hearing on the judges calendar. 4 weeks later I finally got a hold of his PA and she informed me that they would have let us know the week prior - not considering that I have to arrange to take off work to attend the hearing. At the end of last year we advised him we will need to set up a payment plan to prepare for trial - a year later and trial now over with we were sent a bill payment due in full immediately. When we reminded him that we agreed to a payment plan his response was "payment plans are usually paid prior to trial, and since the trial is now over, payment is due immediately". If we thought we could pay a few thousands dollars at the drop of a hat I wouldn't have asked for a payment plan! I do not recommend him for any matter. He is not considerate of anyone's schedule, anyone's personal finances, and he does not stick to his promises or prior commitments.

I hired Mr. Houck to modify my divorce settlement (to amend vague language for time sharing). I paid him up front the amount which he assured me would cover through the trial. In over a year he called me twice and this was after I called and left multiple messages and emailed repeatedly asking for a phone call. As we approached the trial date he was less responsive. One week before the trial was to begin I emailed that I needed to speak with him. That was on a Monday with trial to begin the following Monday. His PA emailed that he would call me on Thursday. I responded that this was not acceptable and she said that he was busy. The next day I emailed again that I must speak with him. I was told he would call me that evening. He never called. On Tuesday the PA informed me that I owed $1500 in order to go to trial as they had used up my original payment. My ex-wife began saying she would settle so I emailed Mr. Houck that I would wait to see if she would sign the settlement before paying the trial amount, which was above my original agreement with Mr. Houck. His PA then emailed me that the amount was past due and needed to be paid before further work was done. This was communicated to me FIVE days before the trial was to begin. That hour I hired a new attorney who is excellent! Upon hiring the new attorney I discovered that Mr. Houck had done nothing except file for my court date. No documents were filed with the court, no witnesses, no depositions. Prior to hiring a new attorney I received the settlement documents and there were seven typos in the document. I informed them that there were typos and his PA emailed me back to please identify the typos. Quite frankly the worst lawyer experience I could imagine. He was non responsive, never called me unless I sent harsh emails, he was completely unprepared and he misrepresented his fees. Under no circumstances would I recommend Mr. Houck for any reason.

This attorney is not good, I agree with the other reviewer, he's never prepared and doesn't fight for youaccording to the bar rules, he's done very suspicious activity that can at the very least cause disciplinary action by the bar, but we ALL know it's quite impossible to make a complaint to the bar. It's like you need a lawyer to complain and fill out a complaint form to the Florida bar.

The best thing I can say is find a better lawyer. He got me a small settlement that could've easily been a bigger one by a better attorney. He also sent me to a doctor that took all my pip money and didn't end up testifying. You can read between the lines. He lied to me about how the case was going down just to settle out of court for the minimum amount that I didn't want to settle for. He assured me that it would not settle for that amount but it did and I settled for a little bit of money that didn't cover my recovery or expenses.

What a Personal Injury Lawyer Can Do for You

A personal injury lawyer specializes in helping individuals who have been physically or emotionally injured due to the negligence or wrongful actions of another party. Whether you've been hurt in a car accident, suffered a slip and fall, or experienced medical malpractice, a personal injury attorney works to ensure you receive fair compensation for your injuries. They can help you recover damages for medical bills, lost wages, pain and suffering, and other related expenses.

Personal injury lawyers act as your advocate, navigating the legal system on your behalf and dealing with insurance companies to ensure you get the compensation you deserve. They understand how to handle complex legal matters and help you avoid common pitfalls.

When Should I Hire a Personal Injury Lawyer?

Hiring a personal injury lawyer can be beneficial in many situations where you've been harmed due to another's negligence. Some key scenarios include:

  • Severe injuries: If you've suffered significant or permanent injuries that result in substantial medical bills, a lawyer can help ensure you are fairly compensated.
  • Long-term or permanent disability: Injuries that affect your ability to work or require ongoing medical treatment are complex, and a lawyer can help estimate long-term damages.
  • Disputed liability: If the responsible party or their insurance company denies liability for your injury, a lawyer can gather evidence and advocate on your behalf.
  • Insurance company lowball offers: Insurers often try to settle personal injury claims for as little as possible. A lawyer can negotiate to get you a fair settlement.
  • Medical malpractice claims: Injuries caused by a doctor, nurse, or healthcare provider due to negligence require a personal injury lawyer experienced in medical malpractice law.
  • Exposure to hazardous substances: If you've been injured due to exposure to toxins, chemicals, or dangerous substances, a lawyer can help pursue legal action.

Hiring a lawyer early in the process is crucial, especially if you're unsure of the full extent of your injuries or damages.

What Does a Personal Injury Lawyer Do?

A personal injury lawyer provides a wide range of services to guide you through the legal process and maximize your compensation. They can:

  • Evaluate your case: A lawyer will assess the strength of your claim and determine whether you have a viable case.
  • Investigate the incident: Gathering evidence such as police reports, witness statements, medical records, and expert opinions is key to building a strong case.
  • Negotiate with insurance companies: Lawyers handle communications with insurance companies to ensure you receive a fair settlement and aren't taken advantage of.
  • File a lawsuit if necessary: If a fair settlement can't be reached, the lawyer can file a personal injury lawsuit on your behalf and represent you in court.
  • Help calculate damages: This includes medical expenses, lost wages, future medical needs, pain and suffering, and emotional distress.
  • Prepare and file legal documents: Lawyers handle all the paperwork and deadlines associated with your case, including filing motions and discovery requests.
  • Represent you at trial: If your case goes to trial, the lawyer will argue your case before a judge and jury to obtain the compensation you deserve.

How Are Personal Injury Lawyers Paid?

Most personal injury lawyers work on a contingency fee basis. This means they only get paid if they win your case, either through settlement or a court judgment. Here’s how it works:

  • Contingency fee percentage: The lawyer will take a percentage of the settlement or award, typically between 25% and 40%, depending on the complexity of the case and the stage at which it's resolved.
  • Costs and expenses: In addition to the contingency fee, the lawyer may deduct other costs associated with the case, such as filing fees, expert witness fees, and court costs. These expenses are often advanced by the lawyer and repaid out of the settlement.
  • No upfront payment: Since the lawyer’s fee is contingent on winning, you usually don’t pay anything upfront.

Always discuss the lawyer’s fee structure during your consultation to avoid surprises.

How Much Does a Personal Injury Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a personal injury lawyer depends on the specifics of your case and the lawyer’s fee structure. However, since most personal injury lawyers work on a contingency fee basis, the amount you pay will depend on the outcome of your case. Here are some general guidelines:

  • Contingency fees: Typically range from 25% to 40% of the settlement or award. The percentage may increase if the case goes to trial or requires an appeal.
  • Other costs: In addition to the lawyer's fee, you may be responsible for case-related expenses such as expert witness fees, medical record retrieval fees, and court costs. These are often deducted from your settlement, so you won't have to pay out of pocket.

While the cost may seem high, hiring an experienced lawyer can significantly increase the amount you recover, making it a worthwhile investment.

Top Questions to Ask a Personal Injury Lawyer

Before hiring a personal injury lawyer, it's essential to ask questions to ensure you’re choosing the right representation. Here are some important questions to ask:

  1. What is your experience with personal injury cases like mine?
Make sure the lawyer has handled cases involving similar injuries or accidents.
  2. What is your fee structure?
Clarify whether the lawyer charges a contingency fee and what percentage they will take from any settlement or award.
  3. How long will my case take?
While it's hard to predict, a lawyer can give you an estimate based on similar cases they’ve handled.
  4. How often do you take cases to trial?
Some lawyers prefer to settle quickly, while others are more comfortable going to court if necessary.
  5. Will you personally handle my case?
In larger firms, junior lawyers or paralegals may handle some aspects of your case, so it's important to know who will be managing your claim.
  6. Do you have references from past clients?
Speaking with past clients can provide valuable insight into the lawyer’s effectiveness and professionalism.

How to Check the Credibility of a Personal Injury Lawyer

To ensure you’re hiring a credible personal injury lawyer, take the following steps:

  • Check bar association records: Verify that the lawyer is licensed and in good standing with your state’s bar association. Look for any history of disciplinary actions.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Online platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, and Google reviews can provide insight into the lawyer's reputation and client satisfaction.
  • Look at their track record: Review their experience with personal injury cases, particularly how many cases they’ve successfully resolved or taken to trial.
  • Ask for references: Credible lawyers should be willing to provide references from past clients who can vouch for their work.
  • Check professional memberships: Lawyers who are members of respected organizations, like the American Association for Justice (AAJ), often have a solid reputation in the field.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first meeting with a personal injury lawyer, prepare the following:

  • Detailed account of the accident: Write down everything you remember about the incident, including dates, times, and locations. Include any witnesses or police reports if available.
  • Medical records and bills: Bring any documentation of your injuries, treatments, and associated medical costs.
  • Insurance information: Provide your insurance details and any communication you’ve had with the other party’s insurance company.
  • Employment and income records: If your injury has impacted your ability to work, bring proof of lost wages or reduced earning capacity.
  • Photos or videos: If you have photos of the accident scene, your injuries, or property damage, bring them to your consultation.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Prepare a list of questions to ask, including how the lawyer will handle your case and what you can expect in terms of timeline and outcome.

By preparing thoroughly for your first consultation, you’ll help the lawyer understand your case more quickly and get a better sense of your legal options.
