While I strongly dislike writing poor reviews, I feel an ethical obligation to warn the public about this law firm. Simply put, John Machulak has no communciation skills. The reason I am giving him 3 stars is ONLY because of his administrative assistant. She is his saving grace. She has fantastic communication skills and an amazing work ethic. However, there is only so much she can do. There was no strategy meeting, no set goals/deadlines, emails/phone calls were constantly ignored and I was never coached for arbitration. The day before arbitration (while I was trying to board an airplane to attend the arbitration) attorney Machulak expected me to be able to review and go through evidence for the following day. How am I supposed to do this 33,000 feet up in the air? Everything with him is extremely last minute and then he expects you to drop whatever you are doing and respond to him immediately after ignoring you for days. He clearly demonstrated a lack of respect for my time repeatedly. Billing is extremely confusing. Invoices are very difficult to read, not itemized by hour and not provided in a timely manner. I asked for a current balance the morning of arbitration and he was unable to provide me with one. I asked for paid receipts for bookkeeping and still have not received any. I finally received a huge invoice that I was unprepared for (because it was never communicated with me what he was working on) weeks after arbitration was over. This past 1 1/2 years have been the most stressful of my entire life and working with attorney Machulak made it twice as stressful as it needed to be. It was a favorable outcome, however, a lot of last minute stress could have been avoided, many billable hours could have been saved, and the arbitration could have been MUCH shorter had he simply held an hour strategy meeting with me well in advance to go over evidence and properly prepare for the day.

My attorney Chris had show nothing but professionalism but at the same time the pitbull I needed with handling and tackling issues head on while keep a cool calm demeanor in the process since the day I met him over a year ago when he was with the last law firm. Mallery and Chris go hand and hand ans they make a great team. I knew front the moment I met Chris a year ago he was definitely the attorney for me. Super glad I I followed him over to Mallery and one of the best choices that I've could have made. I got a great offer on the table and I couldn't have done it without my attorney's team being involved. I look forward to keeping Chris as my attorney in the future with me and my wife's business affairs on the horizon and keep Mallery as our legal team. Thank you guys you are definitely appreciated. Great job! Keep up the great work!

I thought what I got for property damage was fair. But pain and suffering not even close. I was in a motorcycle accident an 80 yr. old lady coming from opposite direction turned left in front of me. She first said she didn’t see me. Then quickly changed to I gave it more gas to miss him. The speed limit changes right in this area from 45 to 35. I made the mistake of talking to her insurance. Because they said they needed to talked to me. I told them I was going 35-40 why I said that I don’t know maybe because I was just hit by a car? And I was bleeding to death internally? If I was speeding then so were the cars in front of me. The motorcycle I had was not built for speed but for going off road. I was most likely not speeding. Kind of hard to speed with a car in front of you. I hit the brakes when I seen her start to turn. She gave it more gas, but this was my fault in any way? I don’t turn if I see someone coming from opposite direction! I had 2 surgeries on right leg and still have pain in knee. You can just look at and see it’s painful. It just makes me sick to think about what this lawyer didn’t do for me. I should have went to smaller law firm. One that would actually take time to fight for me.

I just wanted to take a few moments, although words cannot express my gratitude to all involved at your firm, to say "Thank you." for helping myself and my family through our recent ordeal, following my motorcycle accident. From the initial consultation, through the property damage claims, medical claims, the pain and suffering work, and finally the recovery work, my experience with Hupy and Abraham has been as fantastic as any experience like this could be. While I wish there would have been better coverages in place for all involved, I truly feel that your firm fought as hard for me and my family as you would have had there been millions of dollars on the line. It speaks to all of your character and it made a huge difference in the outcome, and my life, as well as my family’s. Please allow me to take this one final opportunity to thank you from the bottom of my heart, and my family’s heart, for taking care of us in our hours of need. We know that without your efforts the scenario would have played out very differently; my bike would be long gone, we would be in financial ruin, and likely would have struggled just to keep our house. You really do strive to reach your goal of making an ordeal like this as painless as possible, while allowing your client to heal. In my case you’ve reached it, possibly eclipsed it. I have learned a lot and if I ever need you again (hopefully not, no offense!), I will not hesitate to call. I also plan to share my experiences with anyone that will listen. THANK YOU!

Avoid if you can. I absolutely regret using his services. He has an inflated sense of what he is worth, and has no qualms charging a ridiculous amount of money for his very average work(at best). I would give him zero stars if I could.

This Guy “Micheal Winters” was very rude, had no intentions on being any help. I was rushed off the phone and the purpose of getting a consultation is because someone lacks the knowledge, so to knock someone down for trying to get answers is very unreasonable and rude. This man should not be in this business, definitely not a people person.

Julius is a great salesmen who openly and confidently expresses all the great things he can do for your case. Yet, the reality of his abilities is very limited. He prides himself on helping vulnerable people from my community. He goes as far as to call himself "El abogado del pueblo" aka "the lawyer of our village." However, that sentiment doesn't ring true as he and his team had poor communication with me on what was going on. And whenever I would bring this up they would ignore me or directly insult me. They took my money and gave me the bare minimum. Please, mi gente and anyone else reading this. Stay away from this scam artist.

Julius is great at selling you on what he can do for your case. Yet, the reality of his abilities is in fact significantly limited. He prioritizes his personal injury cases over other types of cases. His team--specifically the secretary Rosa Reyes--is rude, insulting, and has poor communication skills. Please, don't waste your money here unless you have to.

Atty. Julius is very humble and compassionate. Even if I had lost hope, he never lost hope in my case. He guided me through the entire process right from the time of accident and treatment till receiving the compensation. He even spoke my language and that was very helpful for me to express my situation to him.

I hired Mr. Standford to represent me on a workers compensation claim after he was referred to me by a family member. Everything seemed to be going well. After the case went to court, i kept receving doctor bills. One bill, in particular, kept coming. I would call Mr. Stanford and tell him. He would tell me to fax him the bill and he would take care of it. Well, this same bill kept coming and I would continue to call Mr. Standford and express my concern. Again he would tell me just to keep faxing him any bill i received and he would take care of it. Well the bill finally stopped coming and I thought he took care of it. So I decided to try for a small loan. After being denied the loan, I discovered that the reason for denial was due to an unpaid bill that had gone to collection, the same bill I kept faxing to Mr. Stanford. Apparently he never followed up on the bill. Had he followed up, I wouldnt be stuck trying to figure out payments for an awfully large doctor bill that I shouldnt have had to pay.

Peter made me instantly comfortable when I first entered his clean and professional office in suburban Milwaukee. He became not just my attorney, but my friend. He is warm and relatable and speaks to me with sincerity. He doesn't hide under legal jargon or make me feel inferior. Best experience I've ever had with the legal system in this country.

This lawyer is lazy and is part of the good old boys club! I hired this lawyer to handle a child custody and divorce case simultaneously. He often lost information that was given to him several times and came to court unprepared. He also mentioned details from other individuals cases which I thought was highly unethical, especially since they were people that I was familiar with. I wasted thousands of dollars on this attorney only to end up terminating him and going with another lawyer to get results. If you are looking for a stand up attorney who cares about his cases, look elsewhere. Don't waste your time!

By far the worst attorney to represent you. She does not understand the law, has no court decorum and has no conscience. She must have gotten her law degree out of a cracker jack box. She was court-appointed to represent in a child custody case and didn’t even know the child’s name months into the case. Gave legal advice that was complete opposite of 3 other more experienced attorneys, one who said her advice is borderline criminal. Completely incompetent attorney. She should be investigated by the WI STATE BAR! Do not recommend, stay far away.

Attorney Brooks was appointed as my representation in children's court and provided the worst representation possible. She is extremely unprofessional and will refuse to comply with any requests you make. She could not even remember my children's names or details of the case. She is only there to get paid by the state and won't even attempt to win your case. I will be filling an investigation against her with the office of lawyer regulation for several acts of misconduct. Any clients who get her appointed as there council should refuse her and ask for another attorney unless you want to loose your case and your children. She had no interest in my case and went against everything I requested and did irreparable damage to my case. She is the worst Attorney and hopefully this invitation will result in her getting disbarred it would save a lot of families from getting destroyed and save countless children from being permanently damaged by the system.

This women will literally lie to you Saying you don't have a case in order to shirk work. Text book gold-brick . She will go as far as even trying to persuade you with erroneous information to convince you to not appeal your case. She represented my guy Curtis Brown and ended up causing a mistrial due to her ineffective performance. This poor man is doing 34 years in prison due to her negligence. I ask for my casefile and she won't even give me documents that negate my guilt. Marcella you should be absolutely ashamed of yourself.. When confronted by the Office of Lawyer regulation about emails that allude toward prosecutoral misconduct being withheld. She literally ignored me. Public defender Marcella depeters is the epitome of what's wrong with America's justice system. Shame on you.

What a Personal Injury Lawyer Can Do for You

A personal injury lawyer specializes in helping individuals who have been physically or emotionally injured due to the negligence or wrongful actions of another party. Whether you've been hurt in a car accident, suffered a slip and fall, or experienced medical malpractice, a personal injury attorney works to ensure you receive fair compensation for your injuries. They can help you recover damages for medical bills, lost wages, pain and suffering, and other related expenses.

Personal injury lawyers act as your advocate, navigating the legal system on your behalf and dealing with insurance companies to ensure you get the compensation you deserve. They understand how to handle complex legal matters and help you avoid common pitfalls.

When Should I Hire a Personal Injury Lawyer?

Hiring a personal injury lawyer can be beneficial in many situations where you've been harmed due to another's negligence. Some key scenarios include:

  • Severe injuries: If you've suffered significant or permanent injuries that result in substantial medical bills, a lawyer can help ensure you are fairly compensated.
  • Long-term or permanent disability: Injuries that affect your ability to work or require ongoing medical treatment are complex, and a lawyer can help estimate long-term damages.
  • Disputed liability: If the responsible party or their insurance company denies liability for your injury, a lawyer can gather evidence and advocate on your behalf.
  • Insurance company lowball offers: Insurers often try to settle personal injury claims for as little as possible. A lawyer can negotiate to get you a fair settlement.
  • Medical malpractice claims: Injuries caused by a doctor, nurse, or healthcare provider due to negligence require a personal injury lawyer experienced in medical malpractice law.
  • Exposure to hazardous substances: If you've been injured due to exposure to toxins, chemicals, or dangerous substances, a lawyer can help pursue legal action.

Hiring a lawyer early in the process is crucial, especially if you're unsure of the full extent of your injuries or damages.

What Does a Personal Injury Lawyer Do?

A personal injury lawyer provides a wide range of services to guide you through the legal process and maximize your compensation. They can:

  • Evaluate your case: A lawyer will assess the strength of your claim and determine whether you have a viable case.
  • Investigate the incident: Gathering evidence such as police reports, witness statements, medical records, and expert opinions is key to building a strong case.
  • Negotiate with insurance companies: Lawyers handle communications with insurance companies to ensure you receive a fair settlement and aren't taken advantage of.
  • File a lawsuit if necessary: If a fair settlement can't be reached, the lawyer can file a personal injury lawsuit on your behalf and represent you in court.
  • Help calculate damages: This includes medical expenses, lost wages, future medical needs, pain and suffering, and emotional distress.
  • Prepare and file legal documents: Lawyers handle all the paperwork and deadlines associated with your case, including filing motions and discovery requests.
  • Represent you at trial: If your case goes to trial, the lawyer will argue your case before a judge and jury to obtain the compensation you deserve.

How Are Personal Injury Lawyers Paid?

Most personal injury lawyers work on a contingency fee basis. This means they only get paid if they win your case, either through settlement or a court judgment. Here’s how it works:

  • Contingency fee percentage: The lawyer will take a percentage of the settlement or award, typically between 25% and 40%, depending on the complexity of the case and the stage at which it's resolved.
  • Costs and expenses: In addition to the contingency fee, the lawyer may deduct other costs associated with the case, such as filing fees, expert witness fees, and court costs. These expenses are often advanced by the lawyer and repaid out of the settlement.
  • No upfront payment: Since the lawyer’s fee is contingent on winning, you usually don’t pay anything upfront.

Always discuss the lawyer’s fee structure during your consultation to avoid surprises.

How Much Does a Personal Injury Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a personal injury lawyer depends on the specifics of your case and the lawyer’s fee structure. However, since most personal injury lawyers work on a contingency fee basis, the amount you pay will depend on the outcome of your case. Here are some general guidelines:

  • Contingency fees: Typically range from 25% to 40% of the settlement or award. The percentage may increase if the case goes to trial or requires an appeal.
  • Other costs: In addition to the lawyer's fee, you may be responsible for case-related expenses such as expert witness fees, medical record retrieval fees, and court costs. These are often deducted from your settlement, so you won't have to pay out of pocket.

While the cost may seem high, hiring an experienced lawyer can significantly increase the amount you recover, making it a worthwhile investment.

Top Questions to Ask a Personal Injury Lawyer

Before hiring a personal injury lawyer, it's essential to ask questions to ensure you’re choosing the right representation. Here are some important questions to ask:

  1. What is your experience with personal injury cases like mine?
Make sure the lawyer has handled cases involving similar injuries or accidents.
  2. What is your fee structure?
Clarify whether the lawyer charges a contingency fee and what percentage they will take from any settlement or award.
  3. How long will my case take?
While it's hard to predict, a lawyer can give you an estimate based on similar cases they’ve handled.
  4. How often do you take cases to trial?
Some lawyers prefer to settle quickly, while others are more comfortable going to court if necessary.
  5. Will you personally handle my case?
In larger firms, junior lawyers or paralegals may handle some aspects of your case, so it's important to know who will be managing your claim.
  6. Do you have references from past clients?
Speaking with past clients can provide valuable insight into the lawyer’s effectiveness and professionalism.

How to Check the Credibility of a Personal Injury Lawyer

To ensure you’re hiring a credible personal injury lawyer, take the following steps:

  • Check bar association records: Verify that the lawyer is licensed and in good standing with your state’s bar association. Look for any history of disciplinary actions.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Online platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, and Google reviews can provide insight into the lawyer's reputation and client satisfaction.
  • Look at their track record: Review their experience with personal injury cases, particularly how many cases they’ve successfully resolved or taken to trial.
  • Ask for references: Credible lawyers should be willing to provide references from past clients who can vouch for their work.
  • Check professional memberships: Lawyers who are members of respected organizations, like the American Association for Justice (AAJ), often have a solid reputation in the field.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first meeting with a personal injury lawyer, prepare the following:

  • Detailed account of the accident: Write down everything you remember about the incident, including dates, times, and locations. Include any witnesses or police reports if available.
  • Medical records and bills: Bring any documentation of your injuries, treatments, and associated medical costs.
  • Insurance information: Provide your insurance details and any communication you’ve had with the other party’s insurance company.
  • Employment and income records: If your injury has impacted your ability to work, bring proof of lost wages or reduced earning capacity.
  • Photos or videos: If you have photos of the accident scene, your injuries, or property damage, bring them to your consultation.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Prepare a list of questions to ask, including how the lawyer will handle your case and what you can expect in terms of timeline and outcome.

By preparing thoroughly for your first consultation, you’ll help the lawyer understand your case more quickly and get a better sense of your legal options.
