Aside from the fact that Barrie fought for a nice settlement for me, I mostly appreciated the constant contact. She checked up on me to see how I was, and updated me very often on the progress of the case. She is thoughtful, compassionate and a fighter. I recommend her without any reservation.

Someone ran a red light and son was in the passenger seat and was severely injured. Barrie Bazarsky was so caring and amazing she came to the hospital to see us. She was there every step of the way, guiding and helping him. After the case was over the judge came in to talk to us and he gave Ms. Bazarsky a glowing recommendation as well saying how professional and how she fought for him! I highly recommend her there is no one better who is there for you in your time of crisis! Thank you so much!!!

I was recommended to Barrie and upon first meeting her I knew instantly she was the lawyer I wanted to work with. Barrie works fast and effectively, and fights for her clients with a tenacity and drive that I greatly admire. Her confidence has been an inspiration to me, and her persistence with the case resulted in receiving the full settlement within just 6 months. I feel she genuinely cares about her clients and wants the best for them. She kept me updated and would check in, and has an easily likable personality so I always enjoyed talking with her. She is a bold, fearless woman and not one to be messed with! Coping with an accident/injury is not an easy thing to go through, so I recommend Barrie whole-heartedly to anyone who wants to have have it pay-off financially and pay-off in a smooth experience with a great person as their attorney.

This is an atty everyone should know..A closing was scheduled for 11:00 am on 11/20 and was cancelled in the am,due to mtge issues. Rescheduled for 5:30 the same day and she not only rearranged her schedule but traveled in heavy rains and walked in as a professional and never said anything negative or questioned my customer. The closing took 2 1/2 hrs and Karen was positive and informative the entire time.

So long we struggled together as a family with debilitating health issues. So many doctor visits and long periods of recovery only to have to start over with the next issue. Maybe he can go back to work next month finally became, work Is not possible any more. We saw a review for Kerie Stone, Esq. and decided to give a call. We are so extremely pleased that we did. Kerie and Karen took their time and helped us through the mounds of paperwork required to process the disability paperwork, all with a laugh and constant reassurance. Their support through the process was unending. The phone call when we won the case was so filled with laughter and happy tears. What a tremendous relief. They were so invested in us as a family. We highly highly recommend you call Kerie Stone Esq. She will change your life for the better. Pam & Paul F.

I called Phil’s office years ago on a Sunday morning when I was in a vulnerable place. I was surprised when Mr. Jusino called back a few minutes later that same Sunday, he introduced himself and explained how he could help. His staff is lovely and caring. When speaking to his staff you don’t feel like a client you feel like you’re talking to a caring friend especially Jolene she’s a doll. He has been a voice of reason and support the last few years and myself and my family are thankful for him. He is willing to go to battle for his clients in a professional and ethical manner. He does his best to settle cases if possible. He communicates in a timely fashion even if that means taking a call from his home or when he’s on the road. I would highly recommend Phil and his team!

Steven Siliato and his team at Lieb at Law helped making the sale of my mother’s home as pain free as they could. Losing a parent isn’t easy, especially suddenly without a will and now a home to sell. Steven and his team took the time to answer any questions, regardless of how trivial or silly the may be, offered sound advice, and took the necessary steps to make the transaction as stress free and smooth as possible. The expertise and value they provided in this process was tremendous and I’d highly recommend any friend or family member to utilize their services in the future.

I had a problem with a bogus outstanding lien that was preventing us from being able to close a real estate transaction on behalf of my parents' Estate. Billy Skulikidis came to my rescue! He reviewed all the information provided, asked a few questions and came up with a solution that should have successfully terminated the lien. When my termination filing was rejected by the County Clerk's Office, Billy followed up with the attorney there that same day. He then forwarded the parts of the law that supported his position. Ultimately, the County attorney agreed to accept the termination filing Billy had prepared for me and the lien has now been cleared. We are now scheduled for closing. Great job by Billy and so much appreciated!

Save yourself from steve the worst unresponsive lawyer on long Island. I was hardly contacted the entire time of the sale and purchase of my houses. We had to call him every step on the way asking what we needed to do for the next step, this guy barely returned a phonecall the same day, sometimes taking even multiple days. From not involving myself in an email chain to keep me updated with what's going on, to him not talking to his partner to know what the contract was that he was working on, not knowing the correct closing date, and just not having a clue to talk to her first to make a plan before talking to me. Do not use him unless you enjoy a stressful time. He doesn't look closely at contracts at all and I told him to not take a pool table, and he never talked to me about it, and left it in the contract costing me 400$ after closing to remove it, he straight up lied to my face, Do not use him no matter what

Mr. Birzon was a great lawyer, handled my case with competence. After the case was done there was a misunderstanding about my file and he never called me to talk about (only sent letters to a house I had since moved from). I KNOW he had my cell number from the trial and one day a few months later he left me a voicemail that I responded to quickly. He told me he was threatening to sue me because I did not get back to him quickly enough, I explained it was a misunderstanding and I would correct the problem immediately, which I did. Apparently another lawyer suggested he call me before trying to sue (why he or his office did not call my cell before this is beyond me), if he or his office had called earlier the whole issue could have been avoided. I didn't want to end our relationship on a bad note, but he thought otherwise and told me as much in not so polite terms.

The Lenard Team has been selling Real Estate in Smithtown since 1985. We have had interactions with many local attorneys over the years and our recent experience with Mr. Birzon was exceptional. The representation he provided our mutual client was top notch. His support staff was very accommodating, friendly, and knowledgable. I would recommend this firm to anyone in the community when it comes time to buy or sell a home.

Joe did a fantastic job representing us for both the sale and purchase of our new home. He was always there both day and night to answer any and all questions and concerns in an honest and straight forward manor, advising us every step of the way with the knowledge and experience he has gained from his many years of practicing law. Not only did he made it possible for us to close on both properties on the same afternoon he made it an enjoyable and stress free endeavor. This is our second time using his services as he also has taken care of our wills in the past, I highly recommend him and will be using his services the next time a need arises.

Didn't return calls, then when the statue of limitations was almost up he discharged my case, leaving me to scramble to find another lawyer to clean up the mess he left me with. His excuse because I couldn't find a doctor to take over my care because of how bad the previous doctor messed me up he couldn't represent me because there wasn't proff of damage, the proff was staring him in the face in the xrays and the fact the other doctors didn't want to touch my case.

What a Personal Injury Lawyer Can Do for You

A personal injury lawyer specializes in helping individuals who have been physically or emotionally injured due to the negligence or wrongful actions of another party. Whether you've been hurt in a car accident, suffered a slip and fall, or experienced medical malpractice, a personal injury attorney works to ensure you receive fair compensation for your injuries. They can help you recover damages for medical bills, lost wages, pain and suffering, and other related expenses.

Personal injury lawyers act as your advocate, navigating the legal system on your behalf and dealing with insurance companies to ensure you get the compensation you deserve. They understand how to handle complex legal matters and help you avoid common pitfalls.

When Should I Hire a Personal Injury Lawyer?

Hiring a personal injury lawyer can be beneficial in many situations where you've been harmed due to another's negligence. Some key scenarios include:

  • Severe injuries: If you've suffered significant or permanent injuries that result in substantial medical bills, a lawyer can help ensure you are fairly compensated.
  • Long-term or permanent disability: Injuries that affect your ability to work or require ongoing medical treatment are complex, and a lawyer can help estimate long-term damages.
  • Disputed liability: If the responsible party or their insurance company denies liability for your injury, a lawyer can gather evidence and advocate on your behalf.
  • Insurance company lowball offers: Insurers often try to settle personal injury claims for as little as possible. A lawyer can negotiate to get you a fair settlement.
  • Medical malpractice claims: Injuries caused by a doctor, nurse, or healthcare provider due to negligence require a personal injury lawyer experienced in medical malpractice law.
  • Exposure to hazardous substances: If you've been injured due to exposure to toxins, chemicals, or dangerous substances, a lawyer can help pursue legal action.

Hiring a lawyer early in the process is crucial, especially if you're unsure of the full extent of your injuries or damages.

What Does a Personal Injury Lawyer Do?

A personal injury lawyer provides a wide range of services to guide you through the legal process and maximize your compensation. They can:

  • Evaluate your case: A lawyer will assess the strength of your claim and determine whether you have a viable case.
  • Investigate the incident: Gathering evidence such as police reports, witness statements, medical records, and expert opinions is key to building a strong case.
  • Negotiate with insurance companies: Lawyers handle communications with insurance companies to ensure you receive a fair settlement and aren't taken advantage of.
  • File a lawsuit if necessary: If a fair settlement can't be reached, the lawyer can file a personal injury lawsuit on your behalf and represent you in court.
  • Help calculate damages: This includes medical expenses, lost wages, future medical needs, pain and suffering, and emotional distress.
  • Prepare and file legal documents: Lawyers handle all the paperwork and deadlines associated with your case, including filing motions and discovery requests.
  • Represent you at trial: If your case goes to trial, the lawyer will argue your case before a judge and jury to obtain the compensation you deserve.

How Are Personal Injury Lawyers Paid?

Most personal injury lawyers work on a contingency fee basis. This means they only get paid if they win your case, either through settlement or a court judgment. Here’s how it works:

  • Contingency fee percentage: The lawyer will take a percentage of the settlement or award, typically between 25% and 40%, depending on the complexity of the case and the stage at which it's resolved.
  • Costs and expenses: In addition to the contingency fee, the lawyer may deduct other costs associated with the case, such as filing fees, expert witness fees, and court costs. These expenses are often advanced by the lawyer and repaid out of the settlement.
  • No upfront payment: Since the lawyer’s fee is contingent on winning, you usually don’t pay anything upfront.

Always discuss the lawyer’s fee structure during your consultation to avoid surprises.

How Much Does a Personal Injury Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a personal injury lawyer depends on the specifics of your case and the lawyer’s fee structure. However, since most personal injury lawyers work on a contingency fee basis, the amount you pay will depend on the outcome of your case. Here are some general guidelines:

  • Contingency fees: Typically range from 25% to 40% of the settlement or award. The percentage may increase if the case goes to trial or requires an appeal.
  • Other costs: In addition to the lawyer's fee, you may be responsible for case-related expenses such as expert witness fees, medical record retrieval fees, and court costs. These are often deducted from your settlement, so you won't have to pay out of pocket.

While the cost may seem high, hiring an experienced lawyer can significantly increase the amount you recover, making it a worthwhile investment.

Top Questions to Ask a Personal Injury Lawyer

Before hiring a personal injury lawyer, it's essential to ask questions to ensure you’re choosing the right representation. Here are some important questions to ask:

  1. What is your experience with personal injury cases like mine?
Make sure the lawyer has handled cases involving similar injuries or accidents.
  2. What is your fee structure?
Clarify whether the lawyer charges a contingency fee and what percentage they will take from any settlement or award.
  3. How long will my case take?
While it's hard to predict, a lawyer can give you an estimate based on similar cases they’ve handled.
  4. How often do you take cases to trial?
Some lawyers prefer to settle quickly, while others are more comfortable going to court if necessary.
  5. Will you personally handle my case?
In larger firms, junior lawyers or paralegals may handle some aspects of your case, so it's important to know who will be managing your claim.
  6. Do you have references from past clients?
Speaking with past clients can provide valuable insight into the lawyer’s effectiveness and professionalism.

How to Check the Credibility of a Personal Injury Lawyer

To ensure you’re hiring a credible personal injury lawyer, take the following steps:

  • Check bar association records: Verify that the lawyer is licensed and in good standing with your state’s bar association. Look for any history of disciplinary actions.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Online platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, and Google reviews can provide insight into the lawyer's reputation and client satisfaction.
  • Look at their track record: Review their experience with personal injury cases, particularly how many cases they’ve successfully resolved or taken to trial.
  • Ask for references: Credible lawyers should be willing to provide references from past clients who can vouch for their work.
  • Check professional memberships: Lawyers who are members of respected organizations, like the American Association for Justice (AAJ), often have a solid reputation in the field.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first meeting with a personal injury lawyer, prepare the following:

  • Detailed account of the accident: Write down everything you remember about the incident, including dates, times, and locations. Include any witnesses or police reports if available.
  • Medical records and bills: Bring any documentation of your injuries, treatments, and associated medical costs.
  • Insurance information: Provide your insurance details and any communication you’ve had with the other party’s insurance company.
  • Employment and income records: If your injury has impacted your ability to work, bring proof of lost wages or reduced earning capacity.
  • Photos or videos: If you have photos of the accident scene, your injuries, or property damage, bring them to your consultation.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Prepare a list of questions to ask, including how the lawyer will handle your case and what you can expect in terms of timeline and outcome.

By preparing thoroughly for your first consultation, you’ll help the lawyer understand your case more quickly and get a better sense of your legal options.
