I contacted this attorney in regards to Social Security via her website. She did call me at the number I provided while I was away. However, when I returned her phone she did not answer the phone and then when I left a message on her voicemail she did not return the voicemail.

Recently hired Jonathan on a Criminal matter. He has excellent relationships with his peers and it showed in my case and in the courtroom. I was in real trouble and Jonathan negotiated a settlement above and beyond what I probably should have received. I would recommend him to everyone and would definitely use him again (although I hope I don’t have to!).

This lawyer does not respond to phone calls, text messages. Literally takes your money and does nothing for you. He said he watched the video of me taking my field sobriety test which he did not. I got pulled over in the morning and he kept saying "when your driving drunk at night" i drank the night before and was on my way to work the next morning when i got pulled over. He put in zero effort to fight for me. If you want to pay somebody to do nothing for you at all hit up brad.

I have worked with Tom for several years, creating multiple entities, and successfully defending a frivolous lawsuit. Tom is honest, prices fairly and puts his clients interests first. I would recommend him and have without any hesitation. He is my goto attorney for regular business.

At this time I would not recommended Attorney Tomas Piggott. Tomas will work hard for you and he will show confidence. I believe he is genuinely sincere in the actions he takes. Unfortunate when it became difficult he did abandon his responsibilities. Thomas is over loaded and today is a one man show; he needs improvement in case management today. He has the potential to change this and resume his success. Unfortunately in the past four years he has overloaded himself resulting in fetal endings for the cases he has committed to us. I can only speak on our experiences, and regretfully do not recommend Tomas Piggott till he improves his work habits. He was once an excellent Attorney, I know this because he had represented us for exactly ten years.

Hired Jerry for various cases. Bankruptcy was done, and very thorough. Other cases were handled well! He is down to earth and will tell you if you have a case or not. May not be what you want to hear, but he is honest and gives realistic expectations based on experience. Staff is very kind and will take time to answer your questions.

I hired Jerry for a child support matter which he could seem to get past the requirements of Juvenile Court to even have a hearing. Jerry’s secretary should be the Attorney she does all the work, answers all the questions and runs the office as well. All Jerry does is appear in court and from what I heard is clueless in the courtroom. A do not hire!

Refused to take time to prepare my case and tried to just wing it. Yelled at me outside of the courtroom that the judge wasn’t going to rule in my favor and might as well get it out of my head. She was socializing and laughing it up with the other party in the hall while I sat by myself going through the hardest time of my life.

sam took my case in aug of 2015, I paid him over $10,600 for retainer, plus if we go to trial there would be another payment of $14,400. the case was delayed close to a year, I ran out of money at the current time. sam told me to plead to the charges of guilty, I told him no, he informed after collecting the $10600 two months later that I was guilty. sam withdrew from case I was left with nothing, I was appointed a public defender that has given me hope in case. all I want is half of my retainer back sam does 50 hrs wrapped up maybe 20 hrs. Please do all your research before contacting sam, I was referred to him, I put my faith into what he told me......

My husband, son and myself highly recommend Mr. Eidy. We always felt informed about the whole process. Mr. Eidy was quick to return phone calls, went out of way to collect evidence, and was never demeaning to my son. After he won my son's case he called a week later for follow up to make sure the family was ok. His personal touch was not expected but was appreciated.

One star is too high. No representation is better than throwing away money hiring Lorin Zaner who will do nothing on your behalf other than bad-mouth you, fail to review documents, fail to pay attention to anything related to your case and then remove himself as your attorney happily keeping your money and billing you for doing that. Just because he won a handful of high-profile criminal cases, doesn't make him a good attorney. He is arrogant, rude, nasty and unprofessional. I think good reviews for him are fake. Talk to his real former clients and you will hear horror stories about him. Look at the court docket. Not even bad performance..just nothing except assuring cases are continued until his clients are fully destroyed. Usually this means you ran out of money and /or he quit your case making sure to let everyone know you're horrible.

Unprepared, seemed to have no time for my case. Always playing defense in my divorce proceedings. Never an answer for anything. Any of the things that actually got accomplished in my case, I researched and did on my own. Case drug out for years with 10's of thousands in legal bills. Part of the good 'ol boy system in the corrupt lucas county domestic relations court.

I was misled into believing that I had been damaged and that sizable amounts were due to me as a result; it wasn't until the mediation began that I realized that no day in court and no damages existed per the law but rather an opportunity to bill outlandish hours for research that had little relevance towards the mediation's outcome. Later it came to my attention (through an unexpected 3rd party conversation) that my file had been passed around the office to drive up the billable hours. As bad as the result was, it was nothing compared to the feeling of being misled by the one entrusted to protect you. He knew there was not a legal in the manner in which he had sold the "we have a case" to me. He knew from the beginning...it would end up in mediation and took me for the ride.

He said all the things you want to hear but was never organized didn't prepare the proper paper work and over all dropped the ball. He kept on apologizing and was telling me he would do better. I would not use this lawyer unless you want to lose and spend a lot of money. He will not fight for you.

Absolutely the worst attorney I have ever had the misfortune of dealing with. Gerbitz represented my husband on charges that were dismissed due to lack of evidence and my husband being innocent. Subsequently Gerbitz advised my husband to plead guilty to a failure to appear on the dropped charges and lied to me and my husband telling us that if he pled guilty he would be given time served, three months he had been incarcerated and that my husband would be released that day. In reality my husband was sentenced to 13 months in a maximum security facility North Central Correctional center with the worst of the worst. Gerbitz was verbal abusive to my husband and family he was impossible to get in touch with. He never provided my husband or family with the motion of discovery. He screamed at my husband at court when asked if anyone promised you anything to take this plea. My husband didn't have a criminal history and is a hard worker and my families main provider. He was also his mother's caregiver and responsible for making any and all major and financial decisions. Without him we are most likely going to lose everything we have and his mother's health has substantially declined. I believe he should lose his license to practice law in Ohio due to his misconduct and deliberately lying to his clients and withholding necessary information. I absolutely believe he is corrupt and violated my husband's rights. Meanwhile my husband sits in prison and my family struggles and day by day we lose more and more and sink lower in to financial ruin and despair. There are no records in online searches of my husband's charge or sentence only the docket and notes stating the case was dismissed and no jail sentence was given. Why is my husband in prison? Something very wrong is going on here. I will get to the bottom of it. Gerbitz will be held accountable for his actions. He might have gotten away with this with others but he won't go without some type of investigation and repercussion regarding this case. I intend to see to it.

What a Personal Injury Lawyer Can Do for You

A personal injury lawyer specializes in helping individuals who have been physically or emotionally injured due to the negligence or wrongful actions of another party. Whether you've been hurt in a car accident, suffered a slip and fall, or experienced medical malpractice, a personal injury attorney works to ensure you receive fair compensation for your injuries. They can help you recover damages for medical bills, lost wages, pain and suffering, and other related expenses.

Personal injury lawyers act as your advocate, navigating the legal system on your behalf and dealing with insurance companies to ensure you get the compensation you deserve. They understand how to handle complex legal matters and help you avoid common pitfalls.

When Should I Hire a Personal Injury Lawyer?

Hiring a personal injury lawyer can be beneficial in many situations where you've been harmed due to another's negligence. Some key scenarios include:

  • Severe injuries: If you've suffered significant or permanent injuries that result in substantial medical bills, a lawyer can help ensure you are fairly compensated.
  • Long-term or permanent disability: Injuries that affect your ability to work or require ongoing medical treatment are complex, and a lawyer can help estimate long-term damages.
  • Disputed liability: If the responsible party or their insurance company denies liability for your injury, a lawyer can gather evidence and advocate on your behalf.
  • Insurance company lowball offers: Insurers often try to settle personal injury claims for as little as possible. A lawyer can negotiate to get you a fair settlement.
  • Medical malpractice claims: Injuries caused by a doctor, nurse, or healthcare provider due to negligence require a personal injury lawyer experienced in medical malpractice law.
  • Exposure to hazardous substances: If you've been injured due to exposure to toxins, chemicals, or dangerous substances, a lawyer can help pursue legal action.

Hiring a lawyer early in the process is crucial, especially if you're unsure of the full extent of your injuries or damages.

What Does a Personal Injury Lawyer Do?

A personal injury lawyer provides a wide range of services to guide you through the legal process and maximize your compensation. They can:

  • Evaluate your case: A lawyer will assess the strength of your claim and determine whether you have a viable case.
  • Investigate the incident: Gathering evidence such as police reports, witness statements, medical records, and expert opinions is key to building a strong case.
  • Negotiate with insurance companies: Lawyers handle communications with insurance companies to ensure you receive a fair settlement and aren't taken advantage of.
  • File a lawsuit if necessary: If a fair settlement can't be reached, the lawyer can file a personal injury lawsuit on your behalf and represent you in court.
  • Help calculate damages: This includes medical expenses, lost wages, future medical needs, pain and suffering, and emotional distress.
  • Prepare and file legal documents: Lawyers handle all the paperwork and deadlines associated with your case, including filing motions and discovery requests.
  • Represent you at trial: If your case goes to trial, the lawyer will argue your case before a judge and jury to obtain the compensation you deserve.

How Are Personal Injury Lawyers Paid?

Most personal injury lawyers work on a contingency fee basis. This means they only get paid if they win your case, either through settlement or a court judgment. Here’s how it works:

  • Contingency fee percentage: The lawyer will take a percentage of the settlement or award, typically between 25% and 40%, depending on the complexity of the case and the stage at which it's resolved.
  • Costs and expenses: In addition to the contingency fee, the lawyer may deduct other costs associated with the case, such as filing fees, expert witness fees, and court costs. These expenses are often advanced by the lawyer and repaid out of the settlement.
  • No upfront payment: Since the lawyer’s fee is contingent on winning, you usually don’t pay anything upfront.

Always discuss the lawyer’s fee structure during your consultation to avoid surprises.

How Much Does a Personal Injury Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a personal injury lawyer depends on the specifics of your case and the lawyer’s fee structure. However, since most personal injury lawyers work on a contingency fee basis, the amount you pay will depend on the outcome of your case. Here are some general guidelines:

  • Contingency fees: Typically range from 25% to 40% of the settlement or award. The percentage may increase if the case goes to trial or requires an appeal.
  • Other costs: In addition to the lawyer's fee, you may be responsible for case-related expenses such as expert witness fees, medical record retrieval fees, and court costs. These are often deducted from your settlement, so you won't have to pay out of pocket.

While the cost may seem high, hiring an experienced lawyer can significantly increase the amount you recover, making it a worthwhile investment.

Top Questions to Ask a Personal Injury Lawyer

Before hiring a personal injury lawyer, it's essential to ask questions to ensure you’re choosing the right representation. Here are some important questions to ask:

  1. What is your experience with personal injury cases like mine?
Make sure the lawyer has handled cases involving similar injuries or accidents.
  2. What is your fee structure?
Clarify whether the lawyer charges a contingency fee and what percentage they will take from any settlement or award.
  3. How long will my case take?
While it's hard to predict, a lawyer can give you an estimate based on similar cases they’ve handled.
  4. How often do you take cases to trial?
Some lawyers prefer to settle quickly, while others are more comfortable going to court if necessary.
  5. Will you personally handle my case?
In larger firms, junior lawyers or paralegals may handle some aspects of your case, so it's important to know who will be managing your claim.
  6. Do you have references from past clients?
Speaking with past clients can provide valuable insight into the lawyer’s effectiveness and professionalism.

How to Check the Credibility of a Personal Injury Lawyer

To ensure you’re hiring a credible personal injury lawyer, take the following steps:

  • Check bar association records: Verify that the lawyer is licensed and in good standing with your state’s bar association. Look for any history of disciplinary actions.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Online platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, and Google reviews can provide insight into the lawyer's reputation and client satisfaction.
  • Look at their track record: Review their experience with personal injury cases, particularly how many cases they’ve successfully resolved or taken to trial.
  • Ask for references: Credible lawyers should be willing to provide references from past clients who can vouch for their work.
  • Check professional memberships: Lawyers who are members of respected organizations, like the American Association for Justice (AAJ), often have a solid reputation in the field.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first meeting with a personal injury lawyer, prepare the following:

  • Detailed account of the accident: Write down everything you remember about the incident, including dates, times, and locations. Include any witnesses or police reports if available.
  • Medical records and bills: Bring any documentation of your injuries, treatments, and associated medical costs.
  • Insurance information: Provide your insurance details and any communication you’ve had with the other party’s insurance company.
  • Employment and income records: If your injury has impacted your ability to work, bring proof of lost wages or reduced earning capacity.
  • Photos or videos: If you have photos of the accident scene, your injuries, or property damage, bring them to your consultation.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Prepare a list of questions to ask, including how the lawyer will handle your case and what you can expect in terms of timeline and outcome.

By preparing thoroughly for your first consultation, you’ll help the lawyer understand your case more quickly and get a better sense of your legal options.
