He was the only lawyer who would listen to my case needs. Even when nobody else would. He also treated my case as a induvial not just a another case. Mr. Webb is very professional and very friendly with me and my wife and if we had any questions he was very willing to answer them. He made the whole process very easy and I cannot say enough about Mr. Webb. I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND him my friends and family I will use him for any other issues that I made have in the future.

I cannot begin to say enough good things about this professional, compassionate, and kind lady. I sent an email on a Sunday, called Monday morning to follow up, fully expecting to talk to an receptionist and leave a message for maybe a junior partner or assistant. I was then transferred and the voice on the other end answered, "Hi, this is Rebecca. How can I help you?" I was so impressed with her knowledge, experience, and concern! The fact that she would stop during her busy day (a Monday even!) and spend time answering my questions was just astounding to me! I am planning to retain her in the near future and cannot imagine considering anyone else! I would strongly recommend her to anyone! I just hate to share the fact that she is so incredible because once the word is out . . . . :). I'm indebted to her more than she knows, just for her kindness and taking the time to talk to me. And she had answers too! I definitely want this lady on my side!!!

I signed an engagement letter on 8/21/2023 entering into an agreement to be represented by William F. Godbold IV. After Paying the firm, I have not received any further assistance. I’ve sent multiple emails, and made multiple calls for updates on this matter with no response. The last information I received was on 2/7/2024. It has been radio silence since then.

It didn't matter that we lived in one stae with plans on moving when retired. He know what to do.

My husband and I recently decided to get our affairs in order. We chose Nicholas Corry to assist us in the major endeavor of establishing a revocable trust. We were so pleased with our choice. Nick guided us through every step and explained the different documents we would need to make certain our family would have the needed answers at the appropriate time. He then had all the documents recorded for us. Also, we were slow to make some decisions and Nick was very patient with us and remained in contact with us to answer our questions. Both my husband and I highly recommend Nicholas Corry and if we need legal assistance in the future, we will most certainly call Nick.

I was looking for estate planning during the pandemic since I had recently lost my husband. I ran across videos done by Nic and Daniel Stidham at Stidham Financial. I had probably 5 consults with other law/estate practices prior to this. I ended up engaging with Nic to prepare multiple trusts, will, and healthcare directive. Nic also is my liaison with Cumberland Trust who will manage the trust when I pass. He is very detailed and organized but also very approachable. He is willing to think outside the normal box to find the solution I was envisioning. My properties are in GA and FL and he handled the trusts and deed changes for those seamlessly. I also like the fact they do annual reviews to ensure your documents stay current with what is going on in your life currently. I highly recommend Nic.

I paid Greg $1,000 to start a case for me over an asbestos related problem that I encountered after purchasing an old school building at an online auction. He was the first lawyer I talked to that actually took an interest in the case and acted like he was going to help, so I excitedly hired him and gave him $1,000 up front. This has been almost 2 years ago. He has sent out one letter requesting that I would like the money I spent on the project back and that's it. I cannot get a hold of him now it's been going on a year since I last spoke to him probably. I've tried to contact him several times and left messages and he he won't return my phone calls and he has done nothing further. The last time I spoke with him he was going to send out another letter informing the person who owned the building before that we were going to sue but he has not done that. I don't know why he would take the case if he couldn't do something more than what he's done and why I had to pay him $1,000 to send one letter. It is not very good for business when you give somebody your word you're going to do something and then don't hold up to your end. If you have a case and you're looking to get something done and would like to have a lawyer that's on top of his business and keeps his word I would not hire him. Also I see that he has reviews on here from just a few months ago as well as a few weeks ago so that says to me that he is still operating and doing business and has just been ignoring me intentionally. I think I may go to the better Business bureau and see what I can do or my good friend Herby Branscum who who is an outstanding lawyer that I highly would recommend. Before I hired Greg I talked to Herby about the case and he said this wasn't his area of expertise that I should probably look into hiring a real estate lawyer so I did, but I'm pretty sure that what Mr. Almand has done is in his area of expertise. I was hoping that I would hear back from him that's why I have let this go for some time now hoping he would do the right thing but since that's not happening as of now I guess we will have to take the next step and get this matter resolved one way or another. I'm also going to share this post on social media and put it out there for the public so that they will be aware and won't make the same mistake I made and waste their money and time hopefully. If a person can't be true to their word then what do they have to stand on.

I am confident my trust is thorough and will be an effective means of handling my estate upon my death, while allowing continued access to everything in my estate while alive. Shane handles all of our collection cases that require legal remedy. He knows bankruptcy law well and isn't afraid to fight when there's something fishy going on. We've had very undesirable experiences with local attorneys in the past billing extensively yet not making any favorable progress on our cases. The very first case I gave him, he saved us from taking a loss of over $8,000 on an unsecured debt in a chapter 7. My previous attorney didn't want to touch it even though I had done all the legwork for him skip-tracing (debtor didn't list spouse's income and they had been married and living at the same place for 3 years). Shane took it head on and negotiated our debt as non-dischargeable through an agreed order. Debtor paid us in full within a week of the discharge. I highly recommend him to anyone looking for a "hungry" lawyer.

My family and I were in desperate need of a lawyer to take my brother’s federal case. We got a recommendation for Mr. Morledge and reached out, he was hands down very considerate, listened to every detail and gave his honest opinion and what was gonna be best for my brothers case and took his case immediately. We couldn’t be more happier and content with the end results on how Mr. Morledge went above and beyond to get a hold of things other lawyers were having issues with, his team, as well as himself were always reaching out, giving us updates on the process and any question or concern were always answered, even if it was the weekend Mr.Morledge would answer my call. We highly recommend Morledge Law Firm for federal cases, he will not disappoint and truly makes you feel welcomed and I’m very thankful to Kim who would answer all my calls and would call me immediately right after receiving new updates! This is a law firm you can honestly trust and will not have to question if they’ll get the job done! Mr. Morledge did that and more for my family! Thank you Mr. Birc!

I was initially attracted by Jennifer's seeming professionalism, personality, and positive energy...as a result, I hired her as my bankruptcy attorney. The process started out well. I drove 4 hours there and 4 hours back for my first appointment. She was paid in full and the process began. I completed all of my necessary requirements for the case in a timely manner. As time went on, the case seemed to drag out. I was concerned about this as I had recently moved from Arkansas to Oklahoma and my time to file in Arkansas was coming to a close. One day I sent Jennifer an email with a question about how things were coming along on my case, I get a response in all caps that her office was CLOSING. WHAT?!? I got a hold of her and she said that she accepted another position and was closing her office, but she assured me that she would complete my case within the given time frame. Time went on, time went on. She had contacted me telling me there was a form I needed to sign, but this form never came in the mail. When I tried contacting her about it...NOTHING. Weeks went by and I heard NOTHING. Finally she sent me an EMAIL stating that for personal reasons and the fact that my time to file in Arkansas was almost up...(well, yeah...hello!)...I needed to find another attorney and she would send my paperwork and a "partial refund" and she wished me well in my future. WHAT KIND OF ATTORNEY DOES THIS?? I replied with a question about what she meant by a partial refund since my case was never filed or completed. I never heard a word back from her. A month later she sent me my paperwork in the mail with a check for $335 which is only the cost to file. Now, I have had to find another attorney in Oklahoma. The cheapest, most effective one I can find is charging me a reduced rate due to the circumstances which is still $1,085. Most people who file bankruptcy don't have the resources to pay this kind of money once, much less twice. Very disappointing.

Mrs. Wells handled my criminal case very well. She answered all my question I had about what was going to happen in court which I was very concerned about. If i very have any problems again with any cases I will most definitely be calling Mrs. Wells back. Also will refer her to anyone I know that needs help. This is how all lawyers should be.

Mrs. Wells recently handled my bankruptcy. She made me feel comfortable and patiently answered my many questions. She made a difficult time in my life easier and much less stressful. I will definitely contact her for any other legal concerns I may have in the future. Also, her office is beautiful and her window displays are amazing.

We had a great experience working with Chris on our case. He was clear in communication, keeping me in the loop and always responsive. He helped us work through all the steps efficiently and I didn't feel like we ever had to jump through any unnecessary hoops. I felt seen and supported in the process and would work with him and the firm again!

Chris did an outstanding job. If he said it, he always followed through. He was always on time for calls/meetings. Sadly, I have used many lawyers and response time has always been an issue. Communication was never an issue with Chris. He did an outstanding job with my custody case. I greatly appreciate it all!

The decision to have Trey on our side while treading through the stress of a custody dispute was one of the best decisions I have ever made. He is highly knowledgeable and informative. At times I would feel stress and worry become overwhelming, but eventually I learned that in a sense “no news is good news”, and should there be an issue arise that requires either your attention or his, he was prompt with his responses and advice. I knew that his advice was solid. I was discussing this with a friend of mine who worked for another firm in the past, and her response was “Trey is very good, and very reputable.” I highly recommend the Wright Law Firm!!

What a Probate Lawyer Can Do for You

A probate lawyer assists with the legal process of administering a deceased person’s estate. This often involves guiding executors (if a will exists) or beneficiaries (if no will exists) through the probate process to settle the estate according to the deceased’s wishes or applicable laws. Probate lawyers can help validate the will, distribute assets, resolve disputes among heirs, handle outstanding debts or taxes, and ensure the estate is legally and efficiently administered.

Whether you’re an executor of an estate or an heir facing probate proceedings, a probate lawyer can help you navigate the often-complex legal process to ensure the estate is settled correctly.

When Should I Hire a Probate Lawyer?

You should consider hiring a probate lawyer when you are responsible for managing the estate of a deceased individual, especially in the following situations:

  • The estate has substantial assets: If the estate includes significant assets like real estate, investments, or business interests, legal assistance is often necessary to handle the distribution properly.
  • The will is being contested: If there are disputes among heirs regarding the validity of the will or the division of assets, a probate lawyer can help resolve the conflict.
  • The estate includes complex or unclear provisions: If the will contains complicated instructions or there are no clear beneficiaries, a lawyer can ensure that the estate is administered according to legal requirements.
  • There is no will (intestate estate): When a person dies without a will, the estate is subject to intestacy laws, which determine how assets are distributed. A probate lawyer can help navigate this process.
  • Debt or tax issues exist: If the estate owes significant debts or is subject to estate taxes, a probate lawyer can help ensure debts are paid appropriately and taxes are minimized.
  • Probate disputes: If family members or other parties are disputing the distribution of assets or challenging the executor's actions, legal representation is crucial to defending your rights and ensuring the estate is handled properly.

Hiring a probate lawyer early in the process can help avoid costly mistakes and ensure the estate is settled efficiently.

What Does a Probate Lawyer Do?

A probate lawyer provides a wide range of legal services to help manage and settle an estate. Their tasks can include:

  • Validating the will: Filing the will with the probate court and ensuring its legal validity.
  • Guiding executors or administrators: Advising the person responsible for managing the estate on their duties, including inventorying assets, notifying creditors, and paying debts.
  • Filing necessary paperwork: Preparing and submitting the legal documents required to initiate and complete the probate process.
  • Resolving disputes: Mediating or litigating disputes among heirs or between beneficiaries and executors, including challenges to the will or disagreements over asset distribution.
  • Handling debt and tax matters: Ensuring that outstanding debts, taxes, and estate taxes are properly calculated and paid from the estate’s assets.
  • Distributing assets: Ensuring that assets are distributed to the beneficiaries according to the will or intestacy laws, and that all legal requirements are fulfilled.
  • Closing the estate: Completing the final steps of the probate process, including filing a final accounting with the court and formally closing the estate.

How Are Probate Lawyers Paid?

Probate lawyers typically charge for their services based on the complexity of the estate and the nature of the legal work involved. Common payment structures include:

  • Hourly rate: Most probate lawyers charge by the hour, with rates depending on the lawyer’s experience and the complexity of the estate. Hourly rates can range from $150 to $500 or more.
  • Flat fee: For simple estates or straightforward probate tasks, some lawyers may charge a flat fee that covers all of the necessary legal work.
  • Percentage of the estate: In some states, probate lawyers are allowed to charge a percentage of the estate's value as their fee. This percentage typically ranges from 2% to 5%, depending on the size of the estate and state regulations.
  • Retainer fee: Some lawyers may require an upfront retainer fee, which is billed against as the probate process progresses.

It’s important to clarify the fee structure during your initial consultation to understand how you will be charged and avoid unexpected costs.

How Much Does a Probate Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a probate lawyer depends on several factors, including the complexity of the estate, the type of legal issues involved, and the lawyer’s fee structure. General cost estimates include:

  • Simple estates: For estates with straightforward assets and no disputes, probate legal fees can range from $2,500 to $10,000, depending on the lawyer's fees and the state's probate laws.
  • Complex estates: For larger or more complicated estates with multiple properties, business interests, or disputes, probate costs can exceed $10,000 and may reach $20,000 or more.
  • Hourly rates: If charged by the hour, expect rates between $150 and $500, depending on the lawyer’s expertise and geographic location.
  • Percentage fees: In some cases, a probate lawyer may charge 2% to 5% of the estate’s value, particularly for larger estates or those involving complex legal matters.

Always ask for a clear estimate of fees during your initial consultation to understand the total cost of probate representation.

Top Questions to Ask a Probate Lawyer

Before hiring a probate lawyer, it’s essential to ask the right questions to ensure you’re hiring someone qualified to handle your estate needs. Key questions include:

  1. What experience do you have with probate cases like mine?
Ensure the lawyer has experience with estates of similar complexity, especially if disputes or high-value assets are involved.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Ask whether the lawyer charges an hourly rate, a flat fee, or a percentage of the estate, and request a cost estimate.
  3. What is the likely timeline for my probate case?
While it’s hard to predict exactly, an experienced lawyer can give you a general idea of how long the probate process may take based on the specifics of your estate.
  4. What steps will you take to manage and distribute the estate?
Ask about the lawyer’s approach to handling debts, taxes, and asset distribution.
  5. Will you be handling my case personally?
In larger firms, junior attorneys or paralegals may handle some aspects of your case, so it’s important to know who will be working on your probate case.
  6. What are potential challenges we may face?
A good lawyer will be able to anticipate possible issues, such as will contests or creditor claims, and explain how they would handle them.

How to Check the Credibility of a Probate Lawyer

To ensure you’re hiring a reputable probate lawyer, follow these steps to check their credentials and experience:

  • Verify their state bar status: Check with your state’s bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed to practice and has no history of disciplinary action.
  • Look for probate experience: Review the lawyer’s website or professional profile to ensure they specialize in probate law and have experience handling estates of similar complexity.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for online reviews on platforms like Avvo or Martindale-Hubbell to see what past clients have said about the lawyer’s probate experience.
  • Ask for references: A credible lawyer should be able to provide references from past clients who can vouch for their professionalism and expertise in handling probate matters.
  • Look for membership in professional organizations: Membership in organizations like the American Academy of Estate Planning Attorneys (AAEPA) or the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA) can indicate a lawyer's commitment to estate and probate law.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most out of your first consultation with a probate lawyer, it’s important to come prepared with relevant documents and information. Here’s what you should bring:

  • A copy of the will or trust (if applicable): Bring any estate planning documents left by the deceased, including wills, trusts, or powers of attorney.
  • List of assets and debts: Prepare a detailed list of the deceased’s assets (e.g., real estate, bank accounts, investments) and outstanding debts (e.g., loans, mortgages, credit cards).
  • Death certificate: Bring a certified copy of the deceased person’s death certificate.
  • Contact information for heirs and beneficiaries: Have a list of all individuals or entities named in the will or who are entitled to inherit under intestacy laws.
  • Questions about the probate process: Write down any questions you have about the process, costs, and potential issues you might face.
  • Relevant financial records: If available, bring any relevant financial documents, such as bank statements, property deeds, and tax returns.

By coming prepared, you can ensure a productive consultation and allow the lawyer to provide the best advice for your situation.
