Mr. Meyer's very knowledgable. He reviewed my tax debt situation and knew exactly where I stood and at the end of the consultations I had concrete numbers that corresponded with tax years and he had made sense of all the things I needed. He's very professional and knows his stuff.

I only met with Mr. Meyer once for a consultation whether I needed to file bankruptcy or not due to two foreclosures ocurred the end of 2012. After reviewing my W2 and the form the two mortgage companies sent IRS reporting abandonment of the property, market value and county assessment, he recommended no need of filing chapter 7, and offered to do my taxes at $500.00. I thought it was a bit pricey.

During my consultations, David has always provided the level of confidence I was expecting. Not only did he help me through my child custody case, but he fought my case as if I were a part of his family. My ex-wife is extremely spiteful, vindictive, lied up till the end and did everything to try to make my life miserable. She even had opposing counsels (yes, with an s) employ unethical tactics to try to make me give up including dragging the case on and on. Yet I always felt that my needs were met, and that David was invested in me and my case. He is easily accessible, and is very responsive via e mail and phone whenever I had questions, and was compassionate when I was stressed. There were several instances where I walked into his office with a major concern and no appointment, which he helped resolve right away, leaving me feeling confident and secure when I left. In court, David is aggressive, concise and very powerful with his words leaving no stone unturned, which got me the results that were in my son’s best interest. This has not been easy for me emotionally nor financially but David made sure to be there for me and made things smoother. I highly recommend David Margolesky for Divorce Cases/Custody Battles.

I hired Mr. Hairston to represent me in a Federal Court case involving a predatory plaintiff and attorney. After many sleepless nights Mr. Hairston took full control of the case and resolved expeditiously without me ever having to spend any of my time dealing with it. He took his time to explain all my options and I never felt rushed when consulting with him. I highly recommend Mr. Hairstton and would not hesitate retaining his services again in the future.

Mr. Shawn Hairston helped me to resolve a monetary issue regarding a property I moved away from. The issue was fraught not only with emotional turmoil, because I had to leave my home unexpectedly, but also involved a decent some of money, and my having to deal with a person I did not have any sort of positive relationship with (the property manager). Mr. Hairston knew about and was respectful of the tragic circumstances I was in, and I very much appreciated that. Further, he listened to my needs and helped me to recover the money I was rightly owed. As soon as Shawn came on board, the issue, which had been dragging on before, was resolved promptly. Mr. Hairston is easy to talk to, and he explained the details of the situation very clearly; I really appreciated this because I am clearly NOT a lawyer and was still able to understand what was going on.

I have used Shawn Hairston for a variety of legal matters and every time walked away very satisfied and more importantly on the winning side. Shawn is concise, always available and does not speak to you in legalese. Shawn is currently working with my wife and I with estate planning and our family trust and we feel very confident that our wishes will be accomplished in a simple yet thorough manner and we will not have to worry that things are in order. One key word in my dealings with Mr. Hairston is "trust" I feel he is someone I can confide in with any situation. While Shawn is down to earth and easy to talk to , his professionalism and ability are second to none. I highly recommend Shawn L.M. Hairston Sr. for all your legal needs.

Hired Rick and nothing was done. FIRST round custody case he advised he has a partner lawyer that if hired judges could not take the case due to them handling the judges divorce and forsure would get another judge as supposedly the judge was byast against fathers. That is a lie judge denied removal and then Rick advised case was over nothing they can due not even a court date just a file submission knowing it gets denied and chatged 10k because him and his friend would be a team. come to find out. It had happened to them before and they know it doesn't work. They advise it to take your money. Second time with Rick. Hired to file share custody. Took payment blamed covid for the reason we couldn't get a court date. Court offices advise that was a lie as they where having virtual court. That is in 2020 and 2021 and 2022 used excuse of being sick and never available. Had two meetings in 3 years and both times same line of Need the same documents nothing done. Trying to contact no answer. Come to find out by the court he removed himself from my case with out any notice or contact advising me. Lied and charged over $15,000 between both rounds. This has been a horrible experience I regards to having a lawyer. Trying to conntact him now and still now answer..

This attorney is the epitome of incompetence. Lacking essential skills, her strategy relies on your inaction, allowing her to file baseless claims and secure default judgments. Her representation of debt collectors reflects a complete disregard for legal standing. During a court session, I requested a brief extension from the judge to hire a lawyer for my defense. Subsequently, she removed herself from the case.

I have been working with Noel Burns for about 4 years now and that is about 2 years too long for me. Adter a while, he stopped returning my phone calls and email messages. I do not know if it is him, per se, or his new assistant, Judy. Since he had to downsize his firm, his personal contact has been atrocious. I had to contact the Florida Bar Association to get him to give me a lousy phone call. I would not recommend his services.

My wife and I were referred to and hired Mr Shoot earlier this year. Our experience with Mr Shoot was not good from the begining. He was not knowledgeable of the statutes we were relying on to win the case. Unfortunately, he did not treat us in a professional manner nor he relayed concern for our case. His billing manners were questionable, as he would demand payments in cash, without providing itemized receipts. We are unhappy with his service and his treatment towards with us. I do not recommend his service.

Richard Milstein is only about enriching himself at his client's expense. I received a bill the first month that was double the outrageous retainer that I paid him. During that month, nothing happened except he billed me for our several conversation asking him why nothing was being done. Richard Milstein knew he was not going to work on my behalf when he took my money. He gave me a dozen excuses. Each day of delay left me further in a legal hole that he exploited. After several months, I was going backwards and faced with exorbitant bills for services that were not provided. He filed a lien on my case after I fired him and charged me interest. It was unbelievable the manner in which he could destroy his own client.

I would NOT recommend this attorney to anyone. She is incompetent, not to mention very cruel and mean , , , which would be fine except that when children are involved you would think it would be her to make decisions based on what is in the best interest of the child instead of punishing the children because she "doesn't like" the parents (she needs to GROW UP). Please, avoid this attorney if you have children!!!! I have also read other bad reviews of her, she is a very poor attorney, not a nice person and makes basic spelling mistakes (just to name a few of her short-comings). She should be ashamed of herself.

I hired her to respond to a paternity case that my daughter's father filed against me asking for 50 % time sharing. She had my case since February 20 and in August 20 we had the mediation. I found out during this mediation that if I didn't accept the conditions of the time sharing that my ex was asking in his petition I had to pay him for the night's difference that I'd have my daughter with me base on the fact that I make 3 times the money he makes. This should be basics for any family lawyer. If she'd have told me that from the beginning I wouldn't have paid a 3 hour mediation ( $300 an hour) and I'd have accepted my ex time sharing request from the beginning without the need of spending over $4000.

Parker was retained for a routinue condo closing. The paralegal copied the wiring instructions incorrectly onto the final documents. I caught the error when the documents were notarized. It took five days for the money to transfer, and during that time, although I tried to contact Parker he did not return my calls or email me. He may be knowledgable. I really can't comment. But he runs a sloppy, careless office, and the paralegal I dealt with seemed more like a clerk. The contract involved was for more than a half million dollars, and I think most people would have sweated that five day delay as much as I did. Parker never even apologized. He's apparently involved in bigger projects, which is great for him, but it is really highly unprofessional to ignore small clients under such circumstances(half a million is small?), and I don't think he really earned his fee. What a Probate Lawyer Can Do for You

A probate lawyer assists with the legal process of administering a deceased person’s estate. This often involves guiding executors (if a will exists) or beneficiaries (if no will exists) through the probate process to settle the estate according to the deceased’s wishes or applicable laws. Probate lawyers can help validate the will, distribute assets, resolve disputes among heirs, handle outstanding debts or taxes, and ensure the estate is legally and efficiently administered.

Whether you’re an executor of an estate or an heir facing probate proceedings, a probate lawyer can help you navigate the often-complex legal process to ensure the estate is settled correctly.

When Should I Hire a Probate Lawyer?

You should consider hiring a probate lawyer when you are responsible for managing the estate of a deceased individual, especially in the following situations:

  • The estate has substantial assets: If the estate includes significant assets like real estate, investments, or business interests, legal assistance is often necessary to handle the distribution properly.
  • The will is being contested: If there are disputes among heirs regarding the validity of the will or the division of assets, a probate lawyer can help resolve the conflict.
  • The estate includes complex or unclear provisions: If the will contains complicated instructions or there are no clear beneficiaries, a lawyer can ensure that the estate is administered according to legal requirements.
  • There is no will (intestate estate): When a person dies without a will, the estate is subject to intestacy laws, which determine how assets are distributed. A probate lawyer can help navigate this process.
  • Debt or tax issues exist: If the estate owes significant debts or is subject to estate taxes, a probate lawyer can help ensure debts are paid appropriately and taxes are minimized.
  • Probate disputes: If family members or other parties are disputing the distribution of assets or challenging the executor's actions, legal representation is crucial to defending your rights and ensuring the estate is handled properly.

Hiring a probate lawyer early in the process can help avoid costly mistakes and ensure the estate is settled efficiently.

What Does a Probate Lawyer Do?

A probate lawyer provides a wide range of legal services to help manage and settle an estate. Their tasks can include:

  • Validating the will: Filing the will with the probate court and ensuring its legal validity.
  • Guiding executors or administrators: Advising the person responsible for managing the estate on their duties, including inventorying assets, notifying creditors, and paying debts.
  • Filing necessary paperwork: Preparing and submitting the legal documents required to initiate and complete the probate process.
  • Resolving disputes: Mediating or litigating disputes among heirs or between beneficiaries and executors, including challenges to the will or disagreements over asset distribution.
  • Handling debt and tax matters: Ensuring that outstanding debts, taxes, and estate taxes are properly calculated and paid from the estate’s assets.
  • Distributing assets: Ensuring that assets are distributed to the beneficiaries according to the will or intestacy laws, and that all legal requirements are fulfilled.
  • Closing the estate: Completing the final steps of the probate process, including filing a final accounting with the court and formally closing the estate.

How Are Probate Lawyers Paid?

Probate lawyers typically charge for their services based on the complexity of the estate and the nature of the legal work involved. Common payment structures include:

  • Hourly rate: Most probate lawyers charge by the hour, with rates depending on the lawyer’s experience and the complexity of the estate. Hourly rates can range from $150 to $500 or more.
  • Flat fee: For simple estates or straightforward probate tasks, some lawyers may charge a flat fee that covers all of the necessary legal work.
  • Percentage of the estate: In some states, probate lawyers are allowed to charge a percentage of the estate's value as their fee. This percentage typically ranges from 2% to 5%, depending on the size of the estate and state regulations.
  • Retainer fee: Some lawyers may require an upfront retainer fee, which is billed against as the probate process progresses.

It’s important to clarify the fee structure during your initial consultation to understand how you will be charged and avoid unexpected costs.

How Much Does a Probate Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a probate lawyer depends on several factors, including the complexity of the estate, the type of legal issues involved, and the lawyer’s fee structure. General cost estimates include:

  • Simple estates: For estates with straightforward assets and no disputes, probate legal fees can range from $2,500 to $10,000, depending on the lawyer's fees and the state's probate laws.
  • Complex estates: For larger or more complicated estates with multiple properties, business interests, or disputes, probate costs can exceed $10,000 and may reach $20,000 or more.
  • Hourly rates: If charged by the hour, expect rates between $150 and $500, depending on the lawyer’s expertise and geographic location.
  • Percentage fees: In some cases, a probate lawyer may charge 2% to 5% of the estate’s value, particularly for larger estates or those involving complex legal matters.

Always ask for a clear estimate of fees during your initial consultation to understand the total cost of probate representation.

Top Questions to Ask a Probate Lawyer

Before hiring a probate lawyer, it’s essential to ask the right questions to ensure you’re hiring someone qualified to handle your estate needs. Key questions include:

  1. What experience do you have with probate cases like mine?
Ensure the lawyer has experience with estates of similar complexity, especially if disputes or high-value assets are involved.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Ask whether the lawyer charges an hourly rate, a flat fee, or a percentage of the estate, and request a cost estimate.
  3. What is the likely timeline for my probate case?
While it’s hard to predict exactly, an experienced lawyer can give you a general idea of how long the probate process may take based on the specifics of your estate.
  4. What steps will you take to manage and distribute the estate?
Ask about the lawyer’s approach to handling debts, taxes, and asset distribution.
  5. Will you be handling my case personally?
In larger firms, junior attorneys or paralegals may handle some aspects of your case, so it’s important to know who will be working on your probate case.
  6. What are potential challenges we may face?
A good lawyer will be able to anticipate possible issues, such as will contests or creditor claims, and explain how they would handle them.

How to Check the Credibility of a Probate Lawyer

To ensure you’re hiring a reputable probate lawyer, follow these steps to check their credentials and experience:

  • Verify their state bar status: Check with your state’s bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed to practice and has no history of disciplinary action.
  • Look for probate experience: Review the lawyer’s website or professional profile to ensure they specialize in probate law and have experience handling estates of similar complexity.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for online reviews on platforms like Avvo or Martindale-Hubbell to see what past clients have said about the lawyer’s probate experience.
  • Ask for references: A credible lawyer should be able to provide references from past clients who can vouch for their professionalism and expertise in handling probate matters.
  • Look for membership in professional organizations: Membership in organizations like the American Academy of Estate Planning Attorneys (AAEPA) or the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA) can indicate a lawyer's commitment to estate and probate law.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most out of your first consultation with a probate lawyer, it’s important to come prepared with relevant documents and information. Here’s what you should bring:

  • A copy of the will or trust (if applicable): Bring any estate planning documents left by the deceased, including wills, trusts, or powers of attorney.
  • List of assets and debts: Prepare a detailed list of the deceased’s assets (e.g., real estate, bank accounts, investments) and outstanding debts (e.g., loans, mortgages, credit cards).
  • Death certificate: Bring a certified copy of the deceased person’s death certificate.
  • Contact information for heirs and beneficiaries: Have a list of all individuals or entities named in the will or who are entitled to inherit under intestacy laws.
  • Questions about the probate process: Write down any questions you have about the process, costs, and potential issues you might face.
  • Relevant financial records: If available, bring any relevant financial documents, such as bank statements, property deeds, and tax returns.

By coming prepared, you can ensure a productive consultation and allow the lawyer to provide the best advice for your situation.
